Pros: Car was very clean, well kept, and had a very easy return process.Cons: Staff was helpful, but the employee at counter told me the insurance I purchased through Allianz, which was the option at check out, would not necessarily cover anything that went wrong since it was 3rd party. She highly suggested my to get the insurance their, which was 23.99/day. I did not do this, since I had already spent $44 on Allianz insurance that was offered to purchase and hoped for the best. If this is the case, Allianz insurance does not be promoted during reservations for cars on your website. Also, out of Alamo, Enterprise, and National desks, there was ONE section open at Charlotte, at 2 PM. This resulted in pretty long wait times for customers.

Cons: Cigarette smoke. The car including the trunk smelled like smoked cigarettes. At first when we put the luggage in the car, it seemed like the smell was only coming from the trunk, driving the car further I realized that my hands smelled heavily like cigarettes (which I’ve never smoked in my life) and I realized it was coming from the steering wheel. Not pleased with that at all.

Pros: Decent vehicleCons: I reserved a full-size SUV. When I got there, there were no full-size SUV is available. I had a choice between a midsize SUV, or a minivan. I wasn’t very happy, but I chose the minivan. I was then told I had to wait because it was being cleaned and sterilized. I was told it would take 15 minutes. I waited for it just a little over an hour, before I could actually get the minivan. Today I returned it, before the 2 o’clock deadline on the contract. And then I received my receipt. The receipt I had a charge for fuel and service. I had filled up the minivan less than 2 miles away from the airport. The receipt also had a charge for keeping the car an extra hour. I return the car at 1:53 PM and again, my receipt said it needed to be returned by 2 PM. I’ve been frustrated from beginning to end with the entire rental process with dollar. I have rented 29 times through work with a competitor, and have never had an issue.

Pros: The personnel were kind and helpful.Cons: I reserved a BMW SUV at initial booking. When I arrived to the counter they handed me keys to a Toyota Rav 4. When I reached the parking garage I saw the BMW was parked. I then presented my printed invoice illustrating my reserved BMW, and they allowed me to transfer. As I reached the gate to exit the parking garage, another attended came to stop my progress. I was directed to return the BMW and to use another vehicle. Why did I not get the car I reserved?

Cons: So they gave my rental away, and I had no SUV they told me to go to another location. Once they realized I wasn't leaving without the vehicle I already prepaid for...they said they had a car at pep boys. We had to wait like 30 minutes for them to pick it up. The car was dirty and I had to ask them to wipe it down. Then as we progressed on our Journey we realized that our breaks or tires weren't good. The car would not stop when you pressed the breaks. Basically this was the worst rental I have ever had and I would never use Hertz again

Pros: Iris was extremely helpful, pleasant, and friendly. She made all efforts to ensure I was given the correct rate.Cons: The signage at Charlotte, NC airport only says "rental return". We drove around and ended up in the cleaning lot because we couldn't figure out where to enter to pick-up the car. There was a computer glitch with the car return time. it took a lot of time to fix this. I wasn't notified upon booking that the car was a 24 hr rental anyways. There was also a glitch with the closing time of my drop-off Hertz rental office at the Philadelphia Amtrack station. Online it says they close at 6 pm when in reality they're open all night for late drop-off. Hertz needs to make clear signage, make sure all office info is up to date online and communicate clearly the rules/times of the rental upon booking confirmation.

Pros: Hertz cancelled my booking because they overbooked their cars and refused to help me find another car. Cars were at a premium that weekend in Charlotte, and for a while it looked like I was going to have to fly back home straightaway as my vacation rental was 3 hour drive away in the mountains.Cons: Hertz Charlotte should not consider themselves as being in the customer service business

Pros: NothingCons: Needed a 7 passenger vehicle. When I got there they didn’t have the vehicle said it was in for maintenance. Needed if for 7 people because I was taking my daughter and her friends to Clemson to see her brother and celebrate her 16th birthday. The man told me I could take the car to the Charlotte airport to switch it out for a large SUV like I needed. When I got to the airport they were out of large vehicles! The car, a Buick Encore was filthy. It was on 1/8th tank of gas and the check oil light was on. It smelled like marijuana and air freshener. It was a bad experience all around and I’m going to ask for a full refund.

Cons: First I thought this was at the airport and it was 20 miles away. It took me $20 each way and an hour Each way to get on the road. Then I didn’t have the card I used so the reservation had to start over and went up 25%. Then the car was dirty, Smokey and had several basketball sized dents in the roof that no one wanted to note my paperwork. It didn’t turn out to be anything, but it made me uneasy.

Pros: Pickup lady (Donna) was kind and helpful. Also overwhelmed.Cons: Pickup took over an hour due to understaffing. Car was cheap and loud. Worst of all it smelled awful like smoke. My eyes were watery and my had a headache the whole time I was in it. Fortunately I only needed it for 24 hours. If I would’ve had time at drop off I would’ve asked for my money back.

Pros: Nothing. I booked a car with them 2-3 weeks prior to my arrival in Charlotte and when I showed up they didn’t have any cars left. They didn’t offer to help find me a new one or give me credit for the inconvenience. None of the other rental companies on site had rental cars available either so we were stuck without a car and had to take a 2 hour Uber ride.Cons: They didn’t not call me to let me know they didn’t have any cars until 1 hour before my pick up time, which I was on a flight at that time. There was no assistance offered to help me find an alternative mode of transportation. They literally left me stranded. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

Cons: The van did not pick us up. We waited 40 plus minutes and had to take a cab to their location. The local phone number given to us went to a national location. We could not get info as to when we might have been picked up. The local Payless employee could have not been less helpful and offered no apology. We will never use Payless again.

No pickup. No phone answering. Terrible customer svcPros: NothingCons: Sat on curb for 25 minutes with no shuttle circulating. Called local office number 4-5 times with no one answering the phone. Then called national 800 number, actually spoke to a human who assured me a shuttle was on the way. After waiting another 10 minutes I walked inside and rented from another company. Not worth the hassle and wasting an hour of your life waiting for their shuttle bus. Will not rent from Payless ever

Cons: I picked up the car with quarter tank of gas with 5536 meter mileage and returned the car with half tank full of gas with 5574 meter mileage. I only drove 38 miles for whole rental. I added 5.162 gallon of gas which is about half full of tank. Payless Car Rental girl wanted me to pay up to full of tank gas and charged me additional $18.07 for fuel charge. I felt I got robbed

Car not ready, smelled like cigarettesPros: The car got good gas mileageCons: First the shuttle took 45 minutes to arrive, even after two phone calls. The car wasn’t ready so we had to wait 15 more minutes after getting there, even though we were almost two hours later than we had reserved the car for. The car was smelled like an ash tray and was filthy with crumbs in the cup holders and stains on the seats.

Thrifty and Kayak -- Bad combinationCons: I made two Thrifty Car reservations using Kayak. When I tried to pick up the first car Thrifty said the reservation was cancelled. Sure enough, I checked the Kayak paperwork and the reservation cancelled automatically two hours before the scheduled pick up time. I checked the next reservation 3 days in the future and found that it too automatically cancelled 2 hours before the scheduled pick up. I called both Kayak and Thrifty and neither could change it. Absolutely useless.

The highlight of this experience was surrendering the vehicle.Pros: It was exhilarating being reprimanded by the check in desk for declining their own insurance, even though I had already purchased insurance via Kayak.Cons: The rented Ford Fiesta may have once been a viable vehicle, but the transmission barely cycled--leaving me stranded more than once in the middle of intersections. What a piece of junk.

The car treated me like a teenager with having speed limited to 80, volume limited to 9, seat belts that would shut off the radio if they weren't plugged in. There wasn't a drive to pick us up from the location to go back to the airport. Overall, the situation was a disaster.

The Handling of the CarCons: The handling of the car that I was given was terrible. It was very sensitive, which made it tough to drive especially when on the highway. In addition, the lady at the counter said the upgrade was $12 and when I got the receipt, it as $20.

If you pay by credit card, don't get the insurance! Your credit card company most likely has car rental insurance built in (obviously, you should double check first). Don't let them try to push insurance on you.Cons: The location is pretty awful and not on the Airport grounds. The folks working there are not helpful, slow, and don't understand customer service.

Pros: The gentleman at the counter was nice.Cons: I had to take my car back to the rental car place and get a replacement. The car's seat were filthy with burns in them. The car also had a sputter that made it seem as if it was going to cut off. It was replaced with a better care, but still there were scratches and dings on it as well. I would not recommend or use Ace rental car again.

Pros: Drop off was very easy. Dropped keys in Dropbox at door.Cons: The process of getting car was very slow. Booked online, and had to wait an additional 45 minutes once I arrived for my car to be ready. Worker seemed stressed out. Car wasn’t cleaned out from previous driver. Car also had expired tags that had to be changed out before I could go but after reservation was booked.
