Pros:The car was fine. I had no complaintsCons:When I returned the car I told them it needed a good vacuuming since my son's dog was in the car and he sheds. The attendant told me that dogs were not allowed and they would charge me $200+ for cleaning. No one had told me dogs were not allowed and nothing in their contract states that. It does state that a reasonable charge would be applied for clean up if necessary. The only additional cleaning needed would be minor. I'm aware of that since I brought the car to a car wash when I arrived at my destination on Dec 21st. The total cost including a generous tip was under $20. Budget has charged me over $300 which is totally unreasonable. There were no stain or anything extraordinary required.Reviewed 6 Jan 2016

Pros:The staff was rude and unfriendly when arriving for pick up. Car wasn’t ready and I was made to wait and then offered a different type of car to the one I rented.Cons:The car could’ve been ready on time and I could’ve been given clearer and friendlier instructions. Cons:The car needs to be looked at again as it was jerky a bit on the highway. But on to the most pressing issue... The car we rented had plates that expired 2 days before we were to return it, so there was no option to extend the rental even through it was necessary to ensure our safe return with Hertz's property. It would be helpful to NOT allow a car with almost expired plates to be rented, especially because there were several moments during the return trip where we were in standstill traffic because of accidents ahead of us, ultimately affecting and extending our return time to outside of the return window. Trying to be proactive, we attempted to contact customer service to anticipate any concerns with our return. We were told by a Hertz employee in Silver Spring named Chris that our reservation was modified to allow us to return to ANY location in the area, including HIS suggestion that we go to Union Station in Washington, DC. Once we got to Union Station, we learned there was a $200 return fee that was not mentioned to us by Chris over the phone. This fee caught us off guard. To avoid the fee, we had to drive an additional hour to BWI airport to return the car, adding more mileage and more time driving while tired. In light of this experience, I will forego future rentals with Hertz and take my business to other rental companies and make sure that I'm honest to loved ones about this experience.Reviewed 31 Dec 2017

disgraceful experienceCons:Would you please arrange for someone to contact me about the disgraceful experience I had with a Budget car rental this week. When my holiday plans recently changed, I called to adjust the pickup location (within the same city). A customer service person completed the request but did not advise me that the cost of the rental would DOUBLE. I only discovered this when I received an email receipt. I called to cancel that entire booking. I rebooked. I was advised that if I wasn’t sure how long I needed the car, I could make a booking and EASILY call to extend the booking at any time. When collecting the car, the attendant at the desk insisted that we change the name of the reservation to the name of the credit card used. We did so. When I called to extend the rental by a day, I was advised that the car was expected in California. All our documentation showed that we had correctly booked to return the car to Washington DC. The customer service person was unable to provide any documentation to confirm the change to our booking. We could not be connected to customer service. We had to hang up and call back. We were determined to get a receipt for the extended booking, given the difficulty we had already had with Budget. I called to extend the booking again. And was advised that the change in name of the booking (which Budget insisted we do) had complicated the booking which was not easily found. When I returned the car in Washington DC, the attendant was not able to complete the booking or provide a receipt. I do not accept that this is because the car was collected in Atlanta. Cars are collected and returned to different locations everyday! We should have a receipt when we return a BUDGET car to a BUDGET office. Finally, I asked a customer service agent for advice on how to extend an insurance policy when I extend a car booking. She was incredibly rude and provided no advice. The service was so poor and this experience was so bad that I am determined not to rent a car with budget again. It seems that offices and customer care share the Budget brand, but are not at all connected? I would like a refund that reflects this experience.Reviewed 22 Feb 2018

Comedy of errorsPros:Friendly staff at the location; clean vehicles.Cons:Location was understaffed at both pickup and dropoff, causing an extremely long wait for both. I had a flat tire and was initially sent a van instead of a tow truck, when the dispatch should have known the rental vehicle did not come with a spare tire. Then after the tow truck arrived, I called the Budget location about which tire I should purchase for the vehicle, only to hear that a vehicle exchange was actually what should have been ordered. I then had to wait an additional 4 hours (on top of the hour that had already passed) for the exchange vehicle to arrive, much longer than should have occurred.Reviewed 20 Jun 2016

A one and one-half hour wait then nothing...Pros:I have no opinion for cleanliness and value for money.Cons:I waited along with many others on what I considered the longest rental car line in my car rental history of over 30 years. The customer service personnel was all good as we waited and at the counter. I presented my debit card also used for some 30 years to be told that i could use this card and it had to be a credit card. i was told of the need to do a credit check which i presumably failed and told I could not rent the car that I had waited close to 2 hours to rent and was now also late for my appointment. I went to the next line and rented from Hertz in about 10 minutes, Will not use Kayak or Budget again for car rentals.Reviewed 22 Jun 2016

Thin staffing / Billing Error / Poor Poor ServiceCons:Short-staffed, super long line, then there was an error in the bill that I noticed when pulling out. I mentioned it to the security guard who was incredibly rude and said he couldn't help me. Tough to go back inside with 3 young kids who have already had to wait a long time. Spoke with customer service today and they said I authorized the additional coverages, which I never would have done. Raised the price of my rental $200. Money hungry, terrible customer service, extra chargesCons:Budget office in NYC said it was fine to have my dog, no additional cost. I drop the car off in DC and am told that the small amount of dog hair will require a full DETAIL and I would be charged an extra $50. He said vacuuming is included on ALL rentals at no additional cost, so I asked to please vacuum the car first prior to charging me the extra fee. He told me no, it would require a detail (which is ABSURD), charged the fee, and blew me off. I asked to speak to the manager - he said he was the manager. Called the Budget customer service line - same story. Completely money hungry company with terrible customer service. You shouldn't charge a customer something until you have PROVEN to them that it is necessary. Ridiculous.Reviewed 7 Nov 2017

Pros:The pick-up was horrible. I was suppose to pick up the vehicle at 12 noon. I didn't get a vehicle until after 1:00pm.Cons:This was my first time driving a "keyless" vehicle. I wasn't given any instructions how to operate it. I had to call a friend to tell me how to start and turn off the vehicle.
