Avis didn’t have the car I reserved. Rented for Alamo at the least minute. No issues. Flight was cancelled and we flew out of a different airport than planned. Again, no issues with Alamo. They were a life saver. Avis, not so much

Extremely smooth process. No wait to see the desk person, then no wait for that person to direct me to the cars in the BWI garage. Easily found the Alamo booth in the garage where a busy person just finished with the previous person and came to me to walk me to our vehicle, which he apologized for not having that class of vehicle and asked if I wanted something bigger, which I did. He said I can have a full sized SUV but I saw some minivans next to that, and asked if I can take one of those. He said, of course, and suggested the silver one as that is the newest. It was brand new with all the safety gear, which was fun, with a big screen. My phone immiately connected with it and was able to use the phone GPS on the big screen. I'm spoiled! Return was pretty much the same. I'm very happy with no wait, and new vehicle (and the upgrades). I realize the upgrades are hit/miss depending on availability so am just lucky on that one.

I told the staff I had not rented a car in a while and needed to be show how to do the dash map app. With my permission, they used my phone to plug in the address but I realized quickly (less than 1/4 mile away) that something was not right. They plugged in the wrong address which would have taken me to western MD, instead of north to PA. Also, I realized in the stress of getting up to PA to see my dying brother, that I did not do the typical check on the car so I pulled over to check and it was fine. Again, something that rentals always made sure a customer did. Maybe things have changed I continued to have trouble with the dash app. In Baltimore, only one did the voice speak at the beginning, so I had to look at the dash and then in front of me to navigate rush hour leaving Baltimore to head north into PA.

We arrived around 1:30 AM and all the rental agencies were closed except Enterprise who helped Alamo customers during that time. I was unable to use Alamos kiosk after my dog bit holes in my card used for the reservation. The staff provided calm and welcoming customer service in a potentially disastrous beginning to our trip to Maryland. Everything went smoothly and and we were off to enjoy the sights!

I liked the Toyota Camry. It was very comfortable an all of our luggage fit in the trunk.The charges at the end of my week were over $1000 higher than those given to me initially. The weekly rate was far higher than I was quoted. This makes me not want to use Alamo again when renting a car.

Vehicle windows and mirrors were dirty. No one to bring the car to you or show you to the vehicle at pick up. They said it was due to covid but that excuse is getting old and it's just a way for them to cut staffing and save money. Same thing at drop off. No one around, not even any sort of security to help ensure customer safety. From a customer service perspective it was a pretty poor experience. Otherwise, the vehicle was adequate.

Next car may be your next car also. All car companies @BWI are all off site together and require a shuttle, so go with the cheapest for the size you like essentially. ( Except SiXT which had poor service in past).

I originally booked this thinking my total charge would be $150. There was no pay ahead option because when you get to next car, they add a lot of hidden charges before letting you take the car. They also told us that our car insurance doesn’t cover rentals (even though I have a specific plan that does) and we had to purchase insurance through them. They then sent me a receipt for $220. Upon checking credit card statement the day after drop off, I had a charge for almost $400. When I called to inquire, they were rude and put me on hold for 15 minutes before hanging up on me. Do not use these dishonest, ridiculous company.

The car was not clean. The parking brake was gunked up with some sort of sticky substance. We found trash wedged between the seat and the center console. Also, the USB port was broken, so I couldn't use many of the infotainment system's capabilities.

Hertz could have honored the paid in full reservation I made. Instead, my husband and I were stranded in the middle of the night with no car at BWI. Fortunately, after a two and a half hour wait in line, at 3:30 a.m., Avis was able to a find car for us. I cost us $114 more than we had paid to Hertz. What is the purpose of a paid in full reservation, if Hertz is not going to honor the reservation??? Nora and Neil Isaacs

We arrived at the Hertz counter in Baltimore to a very long line. They had one maybe two people working the counter and they seem to just really be taking their time. After standing in line for almost an hour they told us they had no cars available and it might be an hour and it might be longer. They absolutely should have let everyone in line know the situation and that they did not have any cars. We had made a reservation quite a while ago for a luxury vehicle and then they treat us like that. We went down to Avis and they totally price gouged us to the tune of almost $2500 for one week. We are done renting from any of them. It is a scam!!!

Hertz didn’t even have the car I reserved when I went for pickup. It felt like that Seinfeld skit. Waited almost three hours and got a completely different car than I booked. Rent elsewhere.

The wait to pcum up the car was over an hour. The when I dropped it off I was charged for an additional day of coverage because I dropped it off 20 mins late, despite the fact that I got the car over an hour late the day prior. Never paying for coverage again.

Pickup took a most 45 minutes and when we got the car they didn’t run run it through a car wash so it was covered in salt/dirt making it hard to see out of the windows. Had to stop and get a car wash at a nearby gas station before starting my trip which was frustrating.

I went to the counter but didn't finish the booking since the agent required that I produce all of my insurance papers not just my insurance card...which I had. This is the typical proof of insurance. They had some questionable reason for this requirement but it was obvious that it was just a ploy to force me to purchase their expensive insurance. I walked away and didn't finish the booking.

We showed up for our reservation only to be greeted by a sign at the counter saying “ no cars available “. We had to scramble and rent from another company at twice the price. There was no one at the counter. Why is kayak booking reservations for Payless at BWI if they clearly aren’t running?

Nothing. They were not present - only a sign saying they were out of cars.No one was present even though we had a car reserved. There was only a hand-written sign saying they were out of cars. We were stuck without a car and no transportation. It was a nightmare. We could not get in touch with Payless by phone and we were put on a callback list with Kayak because their hold times were over an hour. We were totally stuck with no recourse.

The Payless car rental has closed at BWI. I received a confirmation email from kayak just a few hours before I arrived at BWI to find it closed. Then when I called Kayak customer service I couldn’t get through. They finally called me back after I’d spent twice as much at another rental car agency snd they said there was nothing kayak could do. I won’t use kayak again. Unreliable.

Regardless of having a reservation there were no cars available. They gave an estimated 3 hours before a car might be available. The staff were not apologetic or frankly kind at all. I missed the purpose of my early arrival to Baltimore due to this.

We had to wait an hour over our reservation time to pick up the vehicle. When we did, the vehicle’s brakes were grinding, making loud noises, and vibrating JUST going out of the lot at 5mph. It was not safe to drive on a highway at all, which we were going out of state. We pulled back into the customer parking and had to go back and forth between Dollar and Hertz rental company at BWI to have the vehicle exchanged. Not sure if they allowed the other vehicle to be rented back out. I had originally paid for the vehicle and was charged the “total price” at the time of online reservation two weeks before. When we got to the counter for pick up, my credit card was not working at the counter. They swiped my husband’s as well. We were both charged for the rental car, however he was charged additional fees that were not originally disclosed at the time of online reservation. When I called Dollar customer service they would not take off the additional fees and said that I would need to contact the third party vendor (Kayak/rental cars.com).

They were closed down when we got there as scheduled with a sign there were no cars available! Referred us to Thrifty that had no cars either! Said they’d have some in 2 hours, but man in waiting crowd said that’s what he’d been told 2 hours earlier! So we got a taxi to take us to stay at a friend’s house (not part of our scheduled trip), had to pay for the missed hotel reservation that we had no way to get to! Awful experience!

The Dollar rental counter has been consolidated with Hertz, but the rental experience was smooth. I didn't have to spend long with the representative and picked out a car quickly. Drop-off was straightforward and hassle-free.

We rented our vehicle through Priceline under my name. When my spouse showed up to collect the vehicle, they wouldn't release because the name was different, understandable. Even though all credit card and last name information was the same, they refused to change the name of the renter, saying it was on the side of Priceline that this needed to get done. 5 calls later to both parties, i still had to go get the car myself, Uber trip $120 additional expense. Seems it shouldn't be that hard to add a spouse for car pick up.

When we showed up, the first car they gave us did not have seven seats. It took me showing the car to three employees before they believed the car only had five seats. Fortunately, there was another car available, but not as comfortable.

I never picked up the car. In the email is stated I paid around $800 US dollars and when I would pick it up it would only be another $400. I got to the airport to pick up the car and they told me it would be $2,000 additional but I managed to get it down to $1,200 but then my bank decided it because it was over the 1k cap when being in another country. Therefore I told them I would be back the next day because my brother would help me pay for it. I called Thrifty the next day and they stated they canceled it because I didn't pick it up on the 30th. So my brother had to pay for a rental for me at another rental company. Thrifty stated they would not give me a refund. I am extremely pissed off because first of all they were going to charge me more than 4x the amount originally stated then they canceled it and I never received a refund. Never will use this service again. I am very unhappy because that was over 1k CAD that I wasted. I am so 😡 upset. It really ruined me and my daughters vacation.

Spent almost 2 hours waiting for vehicle. When we got the van (which was not in the correct parking spot), 6 person family including 6 month old baby and grandmother was told we had to unpack out of the van and into a new one. The new van was not washed and 3/4 tank full. After a long day of traveling, this was a nightmare.

When I arrived at the location to pick up my rental car I was told that they don't have a car. I said that was not acceptable and asked why my rental was confirmed. I only got a shrug and puzzled faces and heard there was nothing they could do. After pressing very hard one person went on the computer and told me that I could go to Reagan National Airport and get a car there, which I did. At the airport I got a car but when I asked for a discount or upgrade for the massive frustration and delay I was told there was nothing they could do because the airport location had a different owner. Not only did I not get a discount or upgrade, I ended up having to pay more than I had agreed to when I made the reservation. All in all the experience was a 2 out of 10. The only thing worse would have been not to get a car at all.

The Chevy Malibu was dirty, smelled of covered up smoke, and the battery had issues requiring us to be late for 2 different events and had to exchange out the car. One whole day was lost on our vacation. We will not use Budget again.

We arrived to a huge line at the airport for budget. I actually went to Avis line to see if I could cancel budget and rent a van with them. Turns out Avis and budget are the same rental parent company so she just checked me in. Why do the counter people let people stand in one huge line and not help more people check in faster?

Worst rental experience in my lifetime 59. Arrived at BWI rental center at 10 pm, got in line, at 12 pm, counter asked us to move to AVIA line since cars ran out. In line at AVIS until 3 am, counter informed there were no more cars. Had a reservation. Waited in center until 6:30 am when counter reopened to receive car. Contract not adjusted for picking up car next day, car due in at noon not giving us enough time to get home from airport and pickup up our dog. Make arrangements to adjust dates w/customer service, give us until 6am next day Sunday. Drop car off at center in Dover at 6 am, no drop box, center closed? Now what? Take car home to not take risk, call customer service, they cannot find rental in system, finally working thru rep language barrier, rental is located. Informs me returning on Monday requires a $475 payment. Does not understand anything I am saying concerning what happened starting Friday night when the rental nightmare began! Wife takes over since my patience has run out and resolves on drop off Monday morning. Horrible experience!!

Fast pick up and return. Reserved a mini van for 6 adults. They didn't have a minivan available when we arrived. They tried to put us in a smaller vehicle. Eventually they borrowed a minivan from another rental company.

The van was dirty when picked up. I had to leave the windows open overnight and use fabreeze to get the odor out of the seats. There was a dust buildup all over the steering column and dashboard. Very unusual for a rental.

The car interior was clean. That's about the only good thing it had going. The check-in process was hasty and not much care taken. Gave me 3/4 tank of gas but marked full on contract. Car had a bunch of scratches that weren't marked down on the contract. I asked for an SUV, they gave me not quite an SUV but a crossover with less cargo space than a standard car but a gas gozzler nontheless. I've been renting with Enterprise for over 10 years now and they were my preferred rental company. But my last couple of rental experiences with them have left much to be desired.

We got to Avis and there was a long line. We had to wait for about an hour to get our car even thought I had already digitally checked in beforehand. The staff made no effort to make any sort of apology. Horrible experience. I wanted to cancel and try to get a car from a different company but everyone was sold out.

An hour+ to check in with 4 people behind the counter, only two were working. Represtative tried to get me to pay more for an upgrade I already paid for and then by the time i finally got outside to leave the reservation was under the wrong name which held me at the exit. Really only use Avis as it's the only option for some trips. No matter where your pick up is, it will be a circus.

If you are approaching from the Paul T Pitcher Memorial Highway via New Ridge Road you will pass two stations just after you exit the highway. If you are coming off Metropolitan Boulevard you’ll find a petrol station east of the main entrance to the airport on Aviation Blvd. Refuel in one of these before you return your car.
  • Returning your car is very straightforward. On approach to the airport you will see signs for the car rental facility. Follow these and park in the car park there. Remove all your belongings and return to the car hire desks in the main building. Here you can exchange your keys and documents and, once the car is checked, you’ll be free to go. If you arrive out of normal hours there will be a drop-box for you to leave your keys.
  • Baltimore/Washington Airport car hire operates 24h a day, seven days a week. A small number have reduced hours and when staff aren’t available a drop-box or self-service facility is in operation. Staff are available to answer queries and help with any onward travel enquiries.
