I prepaid for this rental through Kayak and have the paperwork to prove that. After turning in the car, I was charged $861.92 for some unknown reason. I called Avis on 4/14/26 to dispute the charge. The customer service person I spoke with said they couldn't see any reason why I was charged that amount and submitted a request for refund of $861.92. They said the credit would post in 3-5 business days. I called Avis again today to follow up on this and the customer service person informed me that the refund request had been declined. He also stated that he could see no reason why I was charged this amount. He then resubmitted the refund request which he said would take 5-7 business days to process. I am skeptical at this point that the refund will be approved. This is the first time that I've used Kayak to book a car rental and the ONLY time I've had an issue like this come up. I have NEVER had an issue booking through Costco or directly with Avis. Kayak's prices may be attractive but it's not worth the problems booking this rental through you has caused me on the back end. Terrible experience all around. System wide outage caused massive delays. Employees don’t have a clue what they were doing. After 45 minutes of being patient, with my wife and 2 daughters (3 & 6) waiting way past their bedtimes, I asked one of the 3 Avis employees trying to figure out how to process my rental why was going on. The employee I asked acted incensed that I asked him that. I pointed out that I’ve been there for 45 minutes and several other people had gotten cars in front of me and behind me and he again acted like I was in the wrong for questioning him. Tempers flared after that, and I took my ID and card back and left Avis. I was still charged by Avis, and am working on a refund. I ended having to rent a car from Sixt for a much higher price. They however had me in a car in 10 minutes. I’ll never rent from Avis again.Reviewed 14 Mar 2026

The Avis drop off location in Vegas was terrible. The drop off was at Mandalay Bay and there wasn’t any signage to help find where to drop the car off or the keys to the Dropbox. We spent 45 minutes looking where to drop the car and then locating the key drop off box.Reviewed 26 Jun 2025
