"Specialty" does not mean what you might think.Cons:I specifically reserved a "specialty" vehicle because the vehicle depicted in the image was one with 4WD. When I arrived at Thrifty they informed me that "specialty" actually means "wild card" which is essentially whatever they have extra of, in this case was a tiny compact car. Had I known I was getting a compact car I would have taken the lower rate and reserved one in advance. This exchange felt extremely deceptive. Additionally, this change in vehicle was not only inconvenient but also dangerous and I was traveling to mountainous areas expecting heavy rain and snow.Reviewed 22 Feb 2017

Pros:We waited for a very long time for the airport shuttle and finally had to Uber to the off-site location. When we got there we complained about the wait and were told it was our fault because the shuttle only comes when you request (we were never told this ) it at the Information desk at the airport. Well, we went to the Information Desk and found it unmanned!!! We tried to call Thrifty but only got a recorded message. The van we rented was clean and ready once we finally got there but our level of frustration was high.Cons:If your pick up van is not going to circle the airport regularly then LET PEOPLE KNOW and provide a phone number that actually goes to the pick up location. Very frustrating!!! Will not rent from them again.Reviewed 22 Jul 2020

Cons:I don't envision car rental companies staying in business much longer given the rates they charge, the cost of insurance that they encourage you to purchase, and the risk and headache a customer takes on driving a car that's not theirs. The person at the car drop off spent a long time examining a minuscule windshield chip that was already there when I picked up the vehicle! I didn't think to mention it to the Seattle Thrifty team because it was so minuscule. I will probably never rent a car ever again from Thrifty given how easily they'll blame the customer for things as minor as minuscule windshield chips. It was easily MUCH cheaper to just take Lyft around Portland, including to the far flung hiking spots, than to rent a car. NEVER AGAIN.Reviewed 6 Jul 2017

Pros:Staff was okay, kind of stand-offish. The offsite is okayCons:The car was not in good shape even with low miles. A draft from the passenger window(kept trying to close but it was). The passenger door had something wrong. Upon closing it made a terrible noise. After a few days noticed that the passenger side window had this plastic piece all bent. I believe the car may have been in an accident but still rented it out. The transmission sounded like the car was going to blow up. The brakes squealed like needing to be replaced. I did not feel safe in the car but work 3-13's and was unable to bring back.Reviewed 22 Dec 2019

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCEPros:NOTHINGCons:The car I was given smelled like a rolling ashtray. I called every day I had it trying to get in touch with someone. After sending in an email complaint and receiving no response, I eventually called the national customer service line, to which they told me I had to contact the specific rental location and speak with the manager. After putting in two calls to the manager and not receiving a call back, I finally got ahold of her on my third call to the location. Not only was I told I should have called earlier (even though I had), I was also told she could not issue a refund for the vehicle and offered me $100 discount and a voucher. I never received the voucher when I dropped off my vehicle as the person working had no idea what I was talking about. Needless to say, I will never rent with Thrifty again.Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

Yaris = 5 ppl and 2 suitcases????Cons:I rented a "wild card" car: cheapest rate with minimum requirements of seating 5 ppl and 2 suitcases. Somehow Thrifty thinks a Yaris meets these requirements...yes, as long as the 3 in the back seat are children and your suitcase is no bigger than a carry-on. $40 more on the spot to upgrade on a rental that cost $130 total. I think it was $10 more to upgrade at the time of booking. Don't choose "Wild Card". Book the class of car you want from the start or Thrifty will throw in a shoe horn for free.Reviewed 31 Oct 2017

Won’r do Business with a Thrifty AgainPros:The car was fine no issues. Nice features.Cons:Because they have not updated their credit card machines, I could not use the chip embedded in my card. And the swiper on the machine was inferior so it would not read my card (admittedly the magnetic strip is worn but there are plenty of machines that still read it, as I did just later that day at a mom and pop type of shop). I was forced to use a card I almost never use. When I asked about inputting the number manually she said she could not do that. Absurd that a big company like this has inferior card readers, cannot input card numbers manually that much smaller shops can, and has people like this woman that you could tell could care less about how inconvenient this was for me. The chip in the card is so much safer for security reasons. Drop-off was smooth, though.Reviewed 30 Oct 2017

Pros:Pick up was quick. Drop off was not. Inexperienced agent for drop off causing delays. Questioning fuel and asking if I have time to go and put a few dollars more in even though I just filled up and the gauge clearly shows full. Upon coworkers inspection he admitted he couldn't tell if the gauge could go any higher. Shuttle arrives and I ask if everything is good to go because I am late and shuttle is leaving. Agent says don't worry another will be by in 15 minutes rather than asking shuttle to wait or hurry his review. I've never had a review take more than 5 minutes and this seemed to take 15.Cons:Having an experienced agent to do drop-off reviews that know what they are doing and not inconvenience the customers necessarily. It would also be great not to call a mini-SUV a mid-size. BS tactic to get people to upgrade.Reviewed 15 Jun 2021

Great Staff at SEATACPros:We realized after we left the Portland airport that the front tires on our Toyota Camry were in very poor condition. We diverted to SEATAC and the staff there could not have been more understanding and accommodating. They put us in a Nissan Altima that we loved. No hassles, no problems. And we were back on the road in 20 minutes with great tires!Cons:We were surprised and disappointed that Trifty would put a customer in a car that had bald tires. We planned on visiting national parks and somewhat remote areas where we knew the driving could get twisting and winding, so tire quality was very important.Reviewed 23 Sep 2018
