You guys at Kayak, Expedia and Hertz screwed up big time. While you showed us a confirmed reservation, upon arriving at the rental facility, Hertz staff informed us that they didn’t have any vehicles available for our rental and that Expedia and Kayak causes this issue frequently for them. We had a day planned in Portland but due to lack of rental car, we couldn’t do anything around town.Reviewed 7 Jul 2024

The care was banged up with dents and damage on all sides. The tire pressure warning was persistent no matter how much air I put in.. only to the recommended PSI. The car smelled like cigarettes and had burn holes in the driver seat. The rims were scrapped up very badly as well and tires had big chunks of rubber missing and or flapping around. I searched for Portland airport and I was given a rental car 20 min off site from the airport, this caused massive problems. With getting it and dropping off. The customer service from hertz was THE WORST. I was struggling 3 or more times to call for various issues, it took more than 30 min plus to get a person on the phone each time and each time they were not helpful. My plane was delayed through no fault of my own obviously and they almost didn’t hold my rental agreement. When I asked to move the place of return (again another 30 min on hold ) I was going to be charged another $160. So even tho I got a deal through a third party, getting to and from cost me another $100 in Uber fees. Ridiculous and I have never used hertz and I won’t againReviewed 20 Jun 2024

We had a reservation for a company car which showed a price under $250. Once we arrived, Hertz attempted to raise the price of that rental to 600+. In addition, the companies choice was only an electric vehicle (which is cool but that should be made known). After going back and forth, and disputing a in city fee which was just an. upcharge we were able to get the rental for around 350ish. After making the reservation I immediately realized the dates were wrong and that I did not specify returning the car to a different city. I took immediate action to try to modify the reservation. I found It was impossible to use kayak to modify the rental. So I’m dissatisfied with the basic service of Kayan. Next, I tried contacting Hertz directly, only to be told to use their web site over and over again. The web site was zero help, and getting a real live person to assist me was next to impossible. I decided to cancel the original booking and to try to make a new one with corrected dates and drop off point. Hertz then tripled the daily rental rate. So I went with directly booking with Avis and got a better rate, and upgrade than what Hertz was offering. Neither Kayak or Hertz have been helpful, or cost effective in this matter, and I will advise as many people as I can to not use either of your services. Since I attempted to modify my initial rental within one hour of making the reservation, but was driven to total frustration by the lack of customer service, I feel that I should not be charged for the rental cancellation. This was the worst rental car experience of my life. I would like a refund. I had an 11 AM pick up scheduled. It was 2 PM and my car was still not ready with no timeframe of how much longer I would have to wait finally I had to call an Uber to go back to the airport to go get a car with thrifty, the workers were as nice as can be expected but they said they had no cars. I offered to take any car that they had even though I had rented an SUV. I said it did not have to have gas Norby washed, but they said they still cannot accommodate I have probably rented 50 to 100 cars in my life including quite a few post Covid. and this was by far the experienceReviewed 24 May 2024

Terrible I spoke to them several times throughout the day before I showed up to get my rental car and I was told that first they didn't have the car that I was had originally rented and then they didn't have the second car that they said that they would have for me in place of the first one and then when I got down there they refused to accept my card that I had that I had told them several times during the day that I was going to be using and that I had held the reservation with so I ended up not getting in the car at the last minute and had to go find somewhere else to get a car and I'm very upset about it it all stemmed from the fact that they were closing at the time of my pickup and they didn't want to deal with me pretty much it was quite obvious how they feltReviewed 23 Oct 2023

I rented from the downtown Portland Hertz office instead of at the airport due to large price difference. When I called the Hertz agent to find out which Max tram stop was closest to the office, the agent did not know where the Hertz office was located relative to the tram line. Pick up was a nightmare, got sent back and forth up and down to 2 different floors, eventually got sent to a pick up area and was told 'go to area 3'. We go and there's nobody there...we come back...'which car is ours'...and are told 'just take any car'. So we take a car that is the size we wanted, are told it's fine then as we leave the parking lot, a woman scans the car and tells us it's not driveable, so we have to go back in and find another car and rinse and repeat.
