Felt I'd been conned...Pros:Car was great but...Cons:I signed paperwork when I collected the car (late at night) thinking it was the usual rental agreement but discovered on my return that I'd taken out additional insurance I didn't want, need or asked for and was handed a bill for $179. At no time did the Avis Agent tell me or my wife who was with me that I was taking out additional insurance or that I would have to pay for it on the car's return. It added $179 to the cost of the car rental that I wasn't expecting to pay. They wouldn't refund me the money when I complained and I've since discovered their agents get commission on any additional insurance they sell. I FELT CONNED. So if you do hire a car from AVIS, be VERY careful what you sign and make sure you tell the Agent you don't want any additional insurance. (I suggest you video the encounter on your phone as they wouldn't take my word for it when I complained). Avis suck and I'm never going to hire a car from them again.Reviewed 11 Apr 2016

Avis regularly disappointsPros:The offices are close to me and that's why I always book with them.Cons:3x screwed by Avis. One of the times I paid $125 extra because their computer messed up and said I got a car with a full tank of gas when in fact it only had 1/8 of a tank when I picked it up. At drop-off, the guy told me I had three options: 1) Fill the gas tank up to avoid being charged $125 2) Wait until it's figured out but then pay extra for the TIME (at $125/hour or $169/day) 3) Pay now try to get my money back. So a normal person would think 3 would be fine. Avis is reputable, right? Well I have called probably 10 times and even went to the 1901 L Street NW Washington DC location to speak with the manager who told me that $35 credit was "ALL HE COULD DO". So they stole $95 from me. After this review, I'm going to email the president of the company -- maybe that will get this sorted!Reviewed 3 May 2017

Customer Service & Car IssuePros:The pick-up process was frustrating and the customer service I received initially was not good. However, the manager who stepped up to help me resolve the issue was very helpful!Cons:The initial customer service rep who helped me was rude and not helpful. She barely said anything to me, and didn't ask me about whether I wanted the additional services/insurance. She simply marked decline and told me to sign. She also didn't give me the total amount that I would be charged and I had to ask her 3 times before she responded. Finally, when it was time to go to the car, I asked her a specific question about the car I was getting and she answered affirmative. But when I went outside, she had given a much larger vehicle that was not anything like what she said, forcing me to go back in and grab a manager to resolve the issue. Once I got the car and drove off, I realized the car was not clean and the tire pressure light was on, forcing me to find a gas station and put air in the tire. Upon returning the car, the staff member in the garage couldn't find the reservation, so I had to go back into the car rental terminal to return the car. ATL pick-up counter was quirky, SGF drop-off a breeze.Pros:Only ATL car rental with decent one-way rates. Overall, the vehicle was great and our drop off in SGF a breeze.Cons:ATL pick-up counter experience seemed odd. However I went to pick up the car about 10 minutes before my scheduled time. I was told there might be a small charge for early pick-up. I noted we were only a few minutes early, but told the charge might still be applied. I said we could wait 10 minutes, if necessary, to avoid the extra charge, and was told "Ok". 10 minutes later, rental process went fine. When we went to pick up our 7 passenger Pacifica, or equivalent as I was warned, there were 4 or 5 Pacificas in a row all appeaed ready to roll. Perhaps Preferred customers receive a better experience, but that run-around seemed unnecessary.Reviewed 19 Oct 2018

Overbooked, didn’t have cars available, had to take UberCons:Waited in line for 30 minutes at Avis before they told us that there probably weren’t any cars available for us, even though we had a reservation. They were not very communicative with us about what was going on and whether we should wait or find alternative plans. Ultimately, we ended up getting an Uber to get us to our destination for the price of what our one-way rental car would have been. Extremely frustrating experience.Reviewed 2 Jul 2018

Cons:Car was filthy - so many bug guts on the windshield I couldn't see. Gas was at 3/4 tank - I asked for it to be documented - they didn't do so.I chose Avis thinking I would get a decent car - not the case - next time I'll choose the lower priced companies.Reviewed 24 Sep 2019
