Pros: Myself, husband and 2 adult sons stayed at Hotel Suisse for 5 nights. On arrival, the staff were extremely welcoming, polite and helpful. Also, as unfortunately our French is not that great, all the staff spoke excellent English. We made our way up to the second floor where we had 2 double rooms next to each other, each with a small balcony. The rooms were very similar in size and layout and were extremely clean , stylishly decorated and well equipped. We had tea/coffee making facilities which were replenished daily. There was plenty of information leaflets in the room about the area. The bed was large and comfortable and all the bedding and towels were changed on a daily basis. The en-suite was a very good size with a bath and shower over. There was a hairdryer and shampoo/conditioner and shower gel also in the bathroom. Again, the bathroom was spotlessly clean and well lit with plenty of space for your own toiletries etc. in the bedroom there were doors which opened onto the balcony. The view was incredible, overlooking the whole of the Nice beach and promenade. The road below was fairly busy but the doors to the balcony cut out all the traffic noise to allow for a peaceful and climate controlled night with the efficient air conditioning. There was a small table and two chairs on the balcony so, if you desired, you could eat breakfast outside. The self-service breakfast is served between 7am and 11am and was of a very high standard. There was almost anything you could want to choose from, which was continually being refreshed, from cereal, croissants and pastries, fresh fruit, all juices, bacon, eggs, pancakes yoghurt with a choice of a pot of tea, coffee or hot chocolate brought to your table. The dining room was extremely clean and with a lovely decor and overlooked the front of the hotel. The hotel had a choice of stairs or a lift, although the lift was pretty small. The hotel’s location was perfect!

Cons: Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the room. We booked a Superior Double with Sea View for quite some money. Our room was on the first floor, very small and just with basic interior. The door to the bathroom could not even be closed. To us it seemed more like the cheapest category and had nothing to do with Superior and the images on the website - despite the price. Disappointed because it was planned as surprise for my partner.

Cons: In general my stay was disappointing. Firstly, it is a terrible value for money place. The only great thing is the location. I paid 550 Euros for a small okay room (with a great balcony however). The breakfast was okay at best. I am a big eggs in the morning guy and they just looked watery and ill. I did not even try them. The other hot option was sausages, and what am I going to eat sausages without eggs?! I was there for a night so I also had dinner. I had work to do so ordered room service. Next morning I woke up with an upset stomach and still have one. I ordered a caesar salad and smoked salmon. Clearly something was not clean.. (I did not eat something else). I had to drive all the way to Cinque Terre the next morning and that was not pleasant at all. The fitness center is outdated with one treadmill, one bicycle and one elliptical. I felt like I was going to fall off the elliptical. In my eyes, management feels complacent due to the location, the views (yeah it looks great in photos) and history of the building. My advice is sell it to someone that can do a better job of taking care of their guests. I actually noticed in Nice that a lot of hotels are not part of a chain and have a great location but just look sad. It defaced the city. Seems like a problem to me. I am not particularly a fan of large chains, I have been to many great independent hotels and boutiques (one the previous night in Aix, called Maison d'Aix gave it 10/10). But when the original owners and management grow complacent, it is not a great look for the city. A 7.1/10 is a gift when taking into account the value of money.

Cons: When we arrived at the hotel in the evening we were confronted with an incompetent employee at the front desk who could rarely speak English. He told us that there was no free room reserved on our name for this night. So we had to spend the first night in an apartment which not belongs to the hotel and we had to pay it on our own without receiving a receipt. The next day another receptionist told us that our room was free in the previous night. Moreover the breakfast was not very delicious - packed cheese, cream-cheese and marmelade. If you have the possibility to eat in town - do it.

Value for money. Old stairways leading to the third foor and a lift give more charm to old Nice building . Comparing to the prices of high season its a very good option.

Pros: Location was PERFECT! Right across from the beach and located in the old town section of Nice. Lots of shops and restaurants. If sleeping with the windows open, has the potential to be a little loud. The room was great, beds were a little uncomfortable. Staff was helpful and friendly. Hotel was located on the 3rd floor, but does have a small elevator. Would definitely recommend!

We liked the split of the 5 floor building into a shop, baker/cafe and bar/restaurant together with 2 small hotels and several apartments. Some may find the entrance hall and corridors off putting but we liked it. So much better than the glitzy hotels. Most rooms very,very small but our Room 1 was perfect.

Cons: We pre-booked car parking and had been advised to pull up outside the hotel to unload our bags and collect the parking ticket. However, when we arrived we were hurried away as a seemingly ‘more important’ visitor was being attended to. Upon our return, an apology was not forthcoming and the description of of where to find the pre-booked underground parking was misleading. We ended up parking in another car park and pulling our cases to the hotel. This was a disappointing start but otherwise our overnight stay was very pleasant.

Cons: The room was not in good shape. The ceiling had a cover but revealed the air ducts. The shower glass leaked while I was taking a shower and the water was all over the bathroom floor. The carpet seemed very worn. The light in the wall was barely hanging on the wall. The furniture was very worn also with water marks on the night stand. Overall the facility needed a facelift. I was also disappointed that the lounge area at the beach was closed and I had to lay on the stones. One of the reasons I chose the hotel was for the beach lounge area.

Cons: Our first room! We booked a standard double, but were shown a room which was cramped, right round the back overlooking rubbish bins, air conditioning units etc. so disappointing. We asked if there was anything else and the lovely receptionist found another one down the side of the building which was a million times better, although an upgrade to the room we had booked. We snapped it up and it made such a difference to our stay there.
