Hassle at pick up and lots of extra feesCons:The rentals wasn't at the airport, I had to Uber to the location since Hertz wouldn't provide a transfer ($25). Then the rental checkout took 30 min ( there wasn't anyone else there). Then they let me know that if I wanted to drop off the rental at the airport it would be another $15. And finally even though I prepaid I still owed another $20 in taxes and fees. I ended up paying more in fees and taxes than I did the prepay amount, and then the Uber on top of that. I won't use Hertz or Kayak again. It's worth the extra money up front to get the whole story before I make the trip.Reviewed 30 May 2017

Hertz sucksPros:Nothing :(Cons:I called to move my reservation to the next day because we did not make it on the flight, the lady told me I had to cancel my reservation and she would rebook it for and additional 320.00, plus the 252.00 that my original reservation was for. I went on line to book another vehicle after she canceled my initial reservation (she told me that was the policy) So when I arrived the next day to pick up a car from hertz (not my choice, but they were the cheapest for a car) they gentleman told me at the counter that what she did was wrong, but he could not refund my money or give me what I initially booked, he said I should have called the local number (which I did) and I explained that I did and the customer service person said that was my only option.Reviewed 18 Feb 2018

Pros:Absolutely NOTHING. In my Lyft, 2 minutes away from picking up the rental, someone from Hertz calls and tells me they cannot accommodate me because they have no vehicles to rent. What was I to do? I'm in another city and have already paid for a 20 min Lyft to this location and have not made any other accomodations because why would I? I had a reservation!!!! I was absolutely furious and was left scrambling and the Hertz guy could care less and was less than helpful. He had a "that's your problem, not mine" type of attitude as if I had done something wrong. I had the Lyft driver drive me to the airport and the whole ride back I was searching the internet high and low. Not only did the Hertz respresentative tell me he had no vehicles, but all the booking websites we're STILL allowing me to book through them. It wasn't until I was back at the airport where I found the most understanding and nicest representative through Enterprise. He not only put me in a rental but felt so bad that he dropped the daily rate to what I would've paid with the other guys. Not dependablePros:Ready? First, the original hertz I placed my reservation through refused to pick up/drop me off because there was another location 1 mile closer. Second, the customer service rep deleted my original reservation for one at the 1mile closer location but failed to tell me I'd be forced to pay for another day because THIS location does not accept returns on holidays. It was too late to get my previous rate at the other location so I was screwed. Third, the 1mile closer location doesn't answer their phone despite me calling multiple times on multiple days so I had to call their customer service line AGAIN! Fourth, customer service weren't able to do anything except tell me they couldn't reach the location and supposedly send an email to the manager requesting my pick up with all of my personal info. Fifth, they didn't pick me up! Sixth, the rep on the phone, once I finally got someone, from 1mile closer location wouldn't listen to what I had to say, argued with me, spoke over me, kept giving excuses to the point where I had to repeat "stop talking give, me your manager" non-stop for a good 20seconds for the kid to get the hint. Luckily I recorded the convo! Seventh, they did not assist me with transferring the carseat from the pickup car to my rental when they should be used the same car and if they had picked me up an hour and a half earlier if Would be just myself in the car, no kids. Oh did I mention I was picked up, FINALLY, 1.5 hours after the scheduled time? I'll count that as the 8th failure/problem. What a nightmare!Cons:Ready? DeceivingPros:When I finally had to pay a cab to take us to the other Hertz location, They were very nice and helpful.Cons:When I landed in San Antonio and went to pick my car up at the Airport, the Hertz counter informed me that the airport was the wrong location. I booked the car and chose the airport location, not realizing that Kayak had redirected my pick up spot to 5-6 miles away from the airport. When I went into Hertz they informed me that it was the wrong location and offered ABSOLUTELY NO HELP to get us to the correct Hertz location. They were extremely rude and completely gave us the brush off. I will never rent another Hertz vehicle again.Reviewed 30 Jun 2017

Pros:There was nothing to like about renting from Hertz.Cons:I arrived at Hertz rental an hour before opening this past Monday on March 8 to be first to pick up the vehicle I prepaid for. Google listed them to open at 7:30am every day, however, a sign on the door showed they opened at 8am. We waited. The door was opened shortly after 8:00-8:01am. There were at least 4-5 people in line behind me. I was first through the door and immediately approached the counter. The salesperson greeted everyone and then asked if anyone was dropping off a vehicle. The lady that arrived about 30 minutes after me was dropping off. So the salesperson took her keys and went outside to check the returned vehicle which took around 7-8 minutes. She then returned to the office. A guy was typing something on the the same computer she previously sat at. He finished within a minute or two upon her return to the office. She told him to get the return keys from the drop box outside. Then she said to everyone that she was sorry, they were overbooked and had no vehicles to rent at the time. She said she would have to call around and that the Hertz office may not have vehicles until 1pm or later. My name was first on the printed paper she brought to the desk she sat at. She apologized a second time and offered to call everyone when she had a vehicle available. Not being able to drive off with the vehicle placed a huge damper on our schedule as we were hoping to be on the road at 9am. This failure sent us in a frenzy searching for an alternate place to rent from. I called and spoke to Hertz's customer service as well. The representative attempted to call the office that I had rented from, but they did not answer the phone. She also said she called other offices near my location with no luck of finding anything comparable to what I reserved. I asked for a refund and was told it would take 7-10 business days for processing. WHAT!!!??? So not only did Hertz ruin our plans and crunch our schedule by not honoring our rental, they kept our money too! Money that could have been used towards another rental company. Today is March 12 and I have yet to receive a refund. Not confident to do business with Hertz again because of this.Reviewed 12 Mar 2021

Pros:Gas mileage on the Pacifica is great. It was comfortable.Cons:Hertz does not keep the tires rotated or in good condition. We had to switch the car because of how bald the front tires were. Back tires were a little better. I believe the better tires should be on the front. We were slipping on the road during our rainy drive. The second time we switched cars was Because a gas pumping malfunction. The car would not allow us put more then a few cents of gas at a time before clicking off. 45 mins for a half tank og gas is no good. 1st car was a dodge van, 2nd car was a Chrysler Pacifica (looked it up and it sounds like this a problem with these), 3rd car was pacific. We did most of our miles on this car. Great gas mileage but given to us with trash and Cheeto powder in it.Reviewed 16 Sep 2020

San Antonio Hertz Needs to work on AttitudePros:Rented a brand new Buick, which should have made this experience a good one.Cons:At check-in the representative was unfriendly. He seemed to take offense that I had paid through KAYAK and didn't want to take the information about the 3rd party insurance I had purchased online for this rental. He insisted that I tell him who insured my personal vehicles and then entered that into his computer. I'm glad I didn't need to use the insurance because I'm sure there would have been a problem. Checking out was just as unfriendly as the representative that guided me to parking said nothing to me but the one at the desk expected me to know the exact mileage of the vehicle when I got there. San Antonio rentalPros:Car was clean and comfortableCons:Pick up and drop off was terrible! Nobody at rental counter and still took forever after I called them. They were closed when I tried to return car at 12:15p on a Saturday. They would not answer the number left at the counter. When they finally answered they said I have to come back on Monday when I had a flight that afternoon! I had to demand another option. I ended up dropping at another location for a drop charge. Closed missed a day of rentalPros:The car worked and didn't break down. Once I was able to pick up the car, the service was good, and the clerk was helpful.Cons:I asked to be scheduled at the San Antonio International airport. I was scheduled to a different Hertz, which was closed when I arrived. I had to pay for an Uber to drop me off and then bother my friend to drop me off at the car rental place in the morning. The cars interior had a ton of stains, and spelled like mildew. I attempted to get a Hertz that was nearby to help me or move the reservation to there system and they said they didn't have time to do that. I feel like Kayak is at fault. As I asked to pick up at the San Antonio Airport and you scheduled me at a place that closed as my flight arrived and other then a Cab, Urber etc, I had no way to get there. Happy EndingPros:Chev Malibu was a very gas efficient and comfortable car that handled well and had lots of cargo space.Cons:Located in a Lincoln Car dealership. No outdoor Hertz signage of any kind. Fortunate that cab driver knew where it was. Upon arrival we were advised that a new environmental tax that had been recently imposed on car rentals within a certain radius of the San Antonio airport. This was not in our on-line quotation. They eventually relented but it was a bit testy for a while. In their defense, our on-line booking and quote was through a 3rd party (Expedia) that was probably not advised of the new tax and therefore could not notify us of same.
