Pros: The staff were generally friendly. If your looking for a hotel next to a big shopping mall this is the place for you. The breakfast was good.
Cons: We booked a king size room and they tried to put us in a room with two twin beds. Not great when your celebrating your anniversary. After much negotiation they found us a room (~45 min). Once we were settled in the new room it was much better.
The room was small and dark. There wasn’t a fan in the washroom. It also needed a good deep cleaning but was clean on the surface.

Pros: The staff was fantastic and so friendly. The rooms were beautiful and the beds very comfy. It is also within great distance to everything in the old city including Wats and the Sunday night walking street.
Cons: Walls are thin, so you can hear what's going on outside all night including dogs barking and loud music from next door during Songkran.

The staff brings sunscreen, insect repellent, icy water, a few slices of melon and towels as soon as you get to the pool. The location is also decent and the hotel staff at the 2nd floor main entrance did an excellent job of getting us transportation and directing the drivers to the right places.

Cons: Upon check-in we were pushed to upgrade so we could have breakfast included. I've traveled all over Asia and haven't had to pay extra nonetheless made me feel like I was a peasant. The service was average. Tried to fill up the tub for my other half and there were pubic hairs floating around. The room was also cleaned better based on how much tip I left. I had great experiences at other Shangri-La hotels but this wasn't one of them.

Cons: The condo next door is being constructed, so we had to bear a constant construction noise at the pool side, but it is not the hotel's fault. The room is not as clean as I would like. The carpet is a bit old and is stained. The room air condition fan noise is loud even at the lowest fan speed setting. The most of the hotel staff did an excellent job of providing good service, but noticed the land of thousand smiles is no where to be found with a few staff.

Cons: The shower was a bit funky. It was a huge step up to get into the shower. For some reason the shower is separated by the rest of the room by glass walls, making it viewable from any point in the room. Even more oddly, the privacy for the shower is a set of horizontal blinds located on the outside of the shower. Meaning, someone in the room can walk up and open the blinds and see you using the shower or bathroom. Not that this would happen, but I find that to be very odd, and I've never seen that in my entire life.

Cons: The people working in the reception were not always very attentive. Some were very helpful, but some did not make any sign of seeing the customer. Once I stood in front of the reception desk for several minutes, waiting to ask some questions. Four people were sitting there, but nobody made any sign of wanting to talk to me. The shower also needs attention as it is difficult to actuate. In general we feel we paid for a premium room but didn't receive it.

Our room not only had very comfortable beds but also a big sofa. There was free tea and coffee and the minibar was very reasonably priced - dressing gowns, slippers, plenty of hot water for the good bath and shower. Everything was spotless. The location near the night market is superb and the sound proofing very good. We visited at holiday time so there was no renovation or building work going on. This is now our first choice of hotel in Chiang Mai for sheer value for money.

Cons: McDonalds is on the first floor of the building. Small parking, if you travel by a rented car. Reserve a 15 minutes to get out of the parking.

Cons: a. The house keeper was very slow to deliver new towels when I asked to change them. b. I can't blame the hotel for this. One early morning (before 5 a.m.), the big sounds which made me hop out of bed. I checked the outside, and found someone was knocking the door of the third room next to mine, He did not pay any attention not to annoy his neighbours. He seemd to try to wake up his friend. The sounds finnaly stopped after several repetitions. Was I just unlucky?
