The car that I rented was not available. The only vehicle available for the price that I was quoted was a 15 passenger van. I had to pay $80 extra to choose between a SUV or a mini-van. This happens a lot with Avis. It's very frustrating as a customer.Reviewed 20 May 2025

I arrived at the counter to pick up the rental. I did not have a credit card on me. The very rude agent told me that in order to release the rental to me without a credit card, they would have to run a credit check. I showed her the rental policy online that stated a rental could be picked up with a debit card and hold fee. Even though the policy is online, and I showed her word for word, she refused to allow me to retrieve the rental. I left and went to another rental counter , Alamo and successfully rented a vehicle with Alamo. I will never use Avis again!Reviewed 16 May 2025

There was a huge line to get the car already reserved that took near 1-hour. After the car return I was charged for some services I didn't agree, even after being explicit with the company not to add services besides the one already included in the original reservation. Got in contact with the company afterwards to complain and was told that they had some small letters on the contract that allow them to proceed this way. Starting from a long wait time at checkin, this has been a bad experience. I will say though, the staff at Avis was really polite and friendly at pick up from ASR and drop off at IST. However, I was not happy with the car given to us. The agent at the pickup window told me he was giving me a new van from 2024, only it wasnt! The seat joints at the bottom showed rust and it was the most basic features van one could imagine. Few days in, we started having engine start issues due to battery dying out. On the day of our long drive of over 8 hours, when I started the car there was no life! We had loaded up and were so ready to leave in time but NO! Then we decided to call Avis customer service and it was the worst transfer game I have ever played.. the agents kept transferring from one to another saying it would be a technical call which needs to have an assurance before they can send out another car. This went for almost 2 hours!! During this time I decided to fidget with the battery connections and was able to start the car. We had anxiety and nervousness throughout the day drive wondering it could stop anytime. I did not even stop the car from running at gas stations and lunch to make sure it doesnt stall on us again and leave our entire family stranded. This has been a poor experience overall and I will not be trusting AVIS anymore.Reviewed 14 May 2025

Terrible. Rude staff. Didn't want to help me or my wife. Left my wife in tears out the front with zero regard. We went to pick up our car, we had already made the booking in advance because we wanted to be organised. We had tours already paid for that we needed to be at. Arrived at downtown calgary avis on 10th ave and thats where the trouble started. Natalia was who we spoke with, Wouldn't use our international debit card even though it says in the terms and conditions that they do accept international debit cards? She offered zero help as to what we could do to get us on our way, zero compassion or concern for us sitting out the front with all of our bags while my wife was crying. The only input she had was "this isnt worth me losing my job" Went to another avis and received the best service and used our international debit card with no problems. The downtown calgary avis needs to have a serious talk with current staff about customer service. Due to natalia's lack of care and willingness to help, we lost money for a tour that we had already paid for. Lost money having to go elsewhere and hire another car. The staff did the best they could given a horrible overbooking situation. 2.5 hour wait in line to pickup my vehicle, which they didn’t have. Luckily they were able to find a full-sized truck instead of the Tacoma I reserved. I wasn’t charged for the upgrade, which was good. Unfortunately, it smelled like Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg had a smoke session in it. I had to take it because I was moving my daughter out of her college apartment, and needed a truck. I was stressed about getting pulled over by the cops until I returned it. Terrible experience caused by greedy (mis)management overbooking.
