6.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful hotel with a lot of period character that puts it above the new modern hotels.
Cons: Staff didn't inform us on booking the room or checking in that there would be a disco on until 1am and it was below our bridal suite. Perhaps they weren't expecting us to want to go to sleep!
6.4 Good
Pros: Not far from the Centre of Sheffield. A good example of Victorian architecture
Cons: It was hard to locate. We rang reception & receptionist was very helpfull in giving us directions to the Hotel
2.8 Mediocre
Cons: yes , its was overpriced , considering breakfast was not included, the room was not very nice, and the hotel was empty, so i dont see why they didnt upgrade us, we were the only guests...

Pros: We came in the morning in a hurry to check bags and get out to the football game. Train had been a mishap in the morning, amongst other things on our time in Yorkshire (don't judge this hotel on the area, it's a really nice place.)
The check-in process was great, they took our bags no problem and gave us keys for after 2 p.m. Then they called a cab for us. After two or three calls, and about 30 minutes, a cab still hadn't shown up.
I was upset, but Sandeep, one of the employees of the Mercure, went out of his way to advocate for me. He personally walked me to the nearest taxi stand. When none showed up there, he called again and insisted they get someone out there in the next five minutes in no uncertain terms, taking down the registration number of the car that was supposed to show.
This time the cab did arrive. If it were for his willingness to go above and beyond and make my problem, his problem, I wouldn't have made it to the game on time. It was fantastic customer service and it turned my mood around.
The point is... this is one story of how professionally run this place is, in an area where not everything is very professional. Well worth your stay.

1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The hotel is dirty and the staff not interested. The breakfast is described as AWARD WININNG was very bad.
6.0 Good
Pros: Didn't have breakfasr.
Cons: The decor - gloomy and dated.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The vegan breakfast was very very good, and the room was ideal for me as a single occupant. Good value for money all round
Cons: Guests returning late and being loud in the early hours (eg, shouting to one another down the corridor whilst looking for their room at 4.20am) meant a lot of disturbed sleep. Ignorance is bliss I suppose, and this is not the hotel's fault I know.
7.1 Good
Pros:
Cons: Unable to get an evening meal in restaurant. Breakfast service chaotic as under staffed and food arrived cold. Not enough tea bags in rooms.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Shower and towels superb. Very comfy bed.
Cons: Parking was a nightmare. The hotel is dated and needs a huge re-furb. Steep, old fashioned staircases( I don’t believe there is a lift). Long walk from the lower car park.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Not a lot. The placed is tired and no lift to the top floor in 118 where we were placed. I asked if there were any on the ground floor and was told no.
Cons: In theory the breakfast offered was good, but it failed in that there was just one aged chef on evidently and we had to wait a long time for the meal. On the second morning we were told that they had replaced the chef and yet the food arrived lukewarm. The family on an adjacent table sent theirs back as it was cold. Also a family on another adjacent table found that their table collapsed as a metal leg fell off! The toaster took an absolute age to toast and I sat down and had cereal and waited for it to turn pale brown after a prolonged time.
