Cons: Our frig was small and not very cold. We would have liked a microwave. The bathroom didn’t have venting. We asked for a toothbrush and it was never sent. We had to ask again the next morning. We also called asked for cups but had to call a 2nd time before it was brought up.

The extra pillows we had requested were there on the bed waiting for us and they, the bed and bedding were very high quality and comfy. We especially appreciated the good lighting in the room.

Pros: Perfect location for our 2 day visit of Sacramento. We walked everywhere we wanted to go: Capitol, Railroad Museum, Stanford House, city of Sacramento museum in Old Town, 2 dinners at Zocalo and 3 different locations of Temple coffee! The extra pillows we had requested were there on the bed waiting for us and they, the bed and bedding were very high quality and comfy. We especially appreciated the good lighting in the room.
Cons: We needed to run the air conditioning all night in order to feel as if there was any air circulation since our room opened onto an interior, enclosed courtyard.

Cons: The mattress on the sofa bed was shot and needed to be replaced. There wasn't any cushion left in the mattress. Our son ended up closing the bed and sleeping on the couch (he used the bed sheets, lol).

Cons: When I arrived, there was no valet parking, which they use to offer on past stays. Not a huge issue but the price of parking is the same but no valet. Seems like they are trying to maximize profit at the expense of convenience and experience to the guests. I booked my room well in-advanced and requested a city or park view if available. I received a view of the parking garage. No apology or explanation as to why I wasn't accommodated nor was I advised that I wasn't going to be accommodated. I didn't find out until I arrived to my room. Very disappointing and disrespectful. Around 2am my neighbors came crashing through the hallway shouting and clowning around. They kept opening and slamming thier front door which was shaking our bed and wall. They were blasting music in their room and shouting (partying). Clowning around in the hallway while still opening and slamming thier door. I called the front desk twice and the issue was not resolved. Both times I called the young lady at the desk would answer giggling and laughing with her coworkers. Clearly they were too occupied to be bothered by my problem. They continued to blast thier music and party... This was extremely unacceptable. I informed the manager the next morning at check-out all she offered was to cover the parking pass. I spent $220/night and all I was offered/given was $20 off?? This is disrespectful and unacceptable. Clearly they care only about thier money and not guests nor thier stay experience. The party should have immediately been broken up and the guests should have been kicked out if they did not comply. They could have offered to move us rooms for our troubles, but nope. I even checked for vacancies through thier website and there were rooms available. The staff are lazy and only willing to do the bare minimum. Will not recommend this place to anyone and will not be returning.

Check in was quick and easy, the only thing was probably the garage charging me $50 a night because the garage did not belong to the hotel. But it was still convenient to get to and from my car if needed.

The hotel looks like it was recently remodeled. Nicely done. Clean and modern. I don’t normally sleep well in hotel beds, but I slept fabulously well here. The continental breakfast was also surprisingly good. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, waffles, yogurt, coffee, juices etc. Quite good. But there’s also the amazing Jim Denny’s restaurants across the street. (Not the Denny’s you’re thinking of.) It was featured on Food Network. AMAZING. There is a good gym and a nice pool. The front desk attendant was delightfully friendly and personable. She had us cracking up. I stayed in a king room for two nights for $331. Well worth the price. I would definitely stay there again!

Cons: The main reason we booked this property for my parents was because there’s a restaurant advertised on the website. My dad just had a total knee replacement and my mom has a bad back plus they’re technologically challenged and can’t easily get a cab/Uber/Lyft or figure out Uber eats/grub hub for delivery so I was so happy to see there was a restaurant in the hotel and they wouldn’t have to venture out. The restaurant closed in July. UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE PLEASE! My poor parents had to have pizza delivered for their anniversary dinner.

The Sterling gave us outstanding value for a spacious room with enormous Jacuzzi bathtub and beautiful four-poster bed in a gorgeous historic Victorian era home. Check in and check out experience efficient and pleasant, with flexibility on a little extra time for check out. I would definitely stay again and recommend to friends with caveats below.

Pros: This is a beautiful property, historic yet well taken care of. Interiors are quaint and wonderful. Breakfast bar has a nice selection of fresh fruits and beverages. I appreciate the effort of keeping this hotel peaceful and comfortable for all the guests that stay overnight, considering the fact that this is a popular venue for wedding celebrations (music was out by 11 pm). This may be controversial, but I liked that our room didn't have a TV.

Pros: The hotel lobby and grounds entrance are all beautiful and just as expected but my room was not like I expect it was old and run down and in need of repair including the faucet didn’t work, the towels were cheap and rough, the bedding like a hospital, the view was gorgeous and the hotel has so much potential, but the room was definitely not worth $300 for the one night! The website makes it sound like a quaint bed and breakfast and very inviting, family type affair “come join us for breakfast”, but there was no meal service and the breakfast was a help yourself snack bar. I was quite disappointed in the overall experience. The staff however were wonderful and the grounds gorgeous and the location with all there was around the hotel to do, just perfect for the romantic getaway that we had planned.

Pros: It has so much character and charm. I stayed in the Butler's quarters which was incredibly spacious and the breakfast bar downstairs had quality options. The person running the front desk was fantastic as well. She gave me ibuprofen when I had none.
Cons: The bathroom basins need replacing. The spa-tub was cracked and stained so I didn't use it. I also didn't appreciate the $50/p day "incidentals" fee on top of everything else. Cute but needs work.

Cons: There were weddings in the evenings right below our room until 10 pm, it was loud and distracting. The property should of alerted us prior. Paying for on street parking was a bummer (8am-10pm)daily, except Sundays/holidays. On 2 occasions we called down to the from desk during hours they said they would be present and left messages and never rec'd a call back. On Demand movies did not work. Our room needs updating; the Jacuzzi tub was cracked and repaired several times as was the sink. There was 1 very young staff there only besides housekeeping. I would not stay here again, when we checked out they didn't even bother to ask us how our stay was, we stayed 3 nights.

Pros: I have always loved this building, and nice hotel rooms for less than $150/night are in short supply in downtown Sacramento. The Sterling gave us outstanding value for a spacious room with enormous Jacuzzi bathtub and beautiful four-poster bed in a gorgeous historic Victorian era home. Check in and check out experience efficient and pleasant, with flexibility on a little extra time for check out. I would definitely stay again and recommend to friends with caveats below.
Cons: There is on the street parking but it is metered with a two-hour limit after 8am or before 6pm Mon-Sat, so you will get a parking ticket if you sleep in. The street gutter was filled with leaves, making it a little messy for shoes and luggage. There is a $16 city lot just a block away... But it is a block away. A valet service would be ideal. As other guests have commented, some room elements such as sinks are beginning to show signs of age, but they did not detract from the outstanding value of our room.

Cons: As with any older building, there are things that need repaired/replaced. Our bathroom door had to be forced open as the floor was raised a little preventing it to open without pushing hard. The elevator didn't work one night but was then fixed. Parking is off site but only a short walk around the block to the parking garage so not a big deal.

Pros: This is a beautiful property, historic yet well taken care of. Interiors are quaint and wonderful. Breakfast bar has a nice selection of fresh fruits and beverages. I appreciate the effort of keeping this hotel peaceful and comfortable for all the guests that stay overnight, considering the fact that this is a popular venue for wedding celebrations (music was out by 11 pm). This may be controversial, but I liked that our room didn't have a TV.
Cons: Our check-in and check-out experience was not pleasant, we had to wait for a front desk manager both times and she was not quite welcoming when we arrived. Despite our will, we had to learn the price for keeping the front lawn in a perfect condition - their garden worker came at 7 am every morning of our stay with an extremely loud leaf blower. Our bathroom looked nice and tidy, but fixtures definitely need some more cleaning.

Pros: The exterior of the hotel was very attractive. The room and bathroom were spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
Cons: The staff at the front desk was polite and helpful, although it was hard to hear him.
We slept well in the large, comfortable bed, and enjoyed the spacious bathroom. The hotel was very quiet, even though there were two weddings in the ballroom while we were there.
The decor from start to finish was unfortunate. The carpet and walls are midnight blue, and the carpet is spotted with 5" diameter cream-colored dots. In our room, one chair was a deep-acid green, as were the couch pillows, but the couch was brown and tan, while the curtains were a purple-grey. Topping it off were matching camel-colored armchairs. The bathroom is tiled in foot-square mauve marble-look-alike tiles.
The room had a powerful "floral" scent. Although we opened all the windows and ran the fan, it seemed every time we entered the room the smell was as strong as ever. I looked around for a plug-in room freshener but could not find one.
The sink faucet leaked and the sink did not drain properly. (I reported it so likely it will be fixed.)
There was no information about use of the television or where to find stations.

Cons: Where do I start? First receptionist was cold, she could of been more welcoming and smile! The blow dryer did not work in the room. We had a "do not disturb" sign in door, but the maids entered anyways (which should not of been entered!) and took all the towels. We had to go ask for towels. Very noisy parking lot and some one spilled a drink from the balcony all over our car.

We normally travel with our kids so it would have been more than enough room for the family. The balcony was cool,we could see the pool and spa which appeared to be kept clean. The pool furniture looked nice and newer. In the morning the employees were very attentive, sweeping and cleaning the parking lot and pool area. We didn't check out the breakfast although I'm sure it wouldn't have disappointed. We would definitely stay here again! Great room for a good price! And a great location, for our itinerary.

Cons: We didn't sleep all night. The front door didn't even fully close despite locking, so there was no seal. Loud neighbors all night on every side. Horrible highway noise. Every sound from the parking lot with guests coming, going, and shouting at all hours. AC was cold but loud and unregulated given the door would not close and thermostat was immediately adjacent to door so it ran continuously. We had to choose between our being too cold or to loud. Housekeeping cleans the place for sure but the shoddy material of whenever the latest remodel was is not holding up, cracking, rotting grout around tub. Dirty. Smelled. Likely rot and mold (or the nearby river) caused us have allergies while on property, that abated immediately upon departure.

Cons: In the middle of my sleep, another guest was given a key card that opened my door. The guest quickly realized that he had mistaken room numbers. Luckily, I had the door stopper on, this could have been a full-on terrifying experience. I was able to lock the door from the inside in addition to the self-locking handle and door stopper. I learned the following day that the issue was fixed and that the mistake was reported to management. They offered me a new key card with the reassurance that the issue has been fixed. This worked for me. This can happen anywhere electronic keycard systems are utilized. The moral of my story is to make sure you lock the door from the inside if the hotel door offers that option in addition to the door stopper.

Cons: What I didn't like was the manager because he was a foreign person and I thought he tried to Jack me as far as trying to get the same room on the 28th after it had supposedly took me out of the system because I did not call the hotel on the night of the 27th to let them know that I was not going to make it to my room. I came in the next day and explained the situation, he put 77.00 back on my card and tried to run my card for a room for the night of the 28th. Had no success with that but even with everything I still feel that I got cheated, for lack of a better word. Can anything be done further with this situation. Either way thanks for the booking and I won't be staying at this hotel in the future even if I would get a room to stay in.

Cons: Poor lighting in the room, outdated amenities, broken furniture, missing hangers. It wasn't the cleanest room or nicest area.

Cons: Really dirty, wall outlets wouldn't hold anything you plug in. None of the lamps worked, toilet felt like it was going to break off the wall, had to buy my own toilet paper because the hotel ran out it was pretty bad in all aspects. I'm not even

Cons: Didn't like the bathroom didn't have curtains. People talking by the hallway loud in the middle of the night and early morning. Didn't let me sleep. The phone in the room missed the power cord wasn't connected. The pics online didn't much with the reality of the poor hotel

Cons: The staff and management charged me for a night and I didn’t even stay the night. I refused to stay when they wanted to charge me $75 deposit and PLUS the night, ludicrous. I disputed it with my bank and I’ll NEVER do business with this hote

Cons: The room smelled of urine. Disgusting, not worth the money.Still haven't received the holding deposit. This hotel is awful and disgusting. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Cons: The noise and it looked like it was in the hood.Room looked dated and the Tv didn't work. A empty roll of toilet paper. Luckily we brought our own.

Cons: Sketchy wheelchair accessibility - the elevator kept breaking and security has to manually reset it for each use. Disrespectful security guard and lack of communication between staff. Broken and rigged fixtures, appliances, and water damage in the floo

Pros: Credit to the housekeeping staff - it was clean. I liked the mini fridge.
Cons: Could use a trip from the maintenance department. Some minor things didn't reduce functionality but were visible. For example a bit of peeling the bathroom backsplash from the wall. And the door needs weatherstripping which reduces noise from the ext.
