10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect stay, in an executive suite for the price of a double room. This was a fallback option after Le Meridien wouldn't match best price online but it was so much better than Le Meridien where I'd stayed in the in bound trip.!!
Cons: nothing
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: The room finishing is not up to standard. The finger fish that we order at the roof top restaurant is overpriced and food quality is bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay here and enjoyed staying in as much as we enjoyed seeing the sights of KK. The pool was amazing and not very crowded. There is ample shopping and dining choices within walking distance. The hotel was clean, felt very luxurious for the amount of money we paid, and it was bright and modern with large rooms. Will densely stay here again.

Gaya Island Resort - Kota Kinabalu - Building

9.0 Excellent (1,087 reviews)
Overview Reviews

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved it! I went with an old friend and we had a perfect weekend. The service was fantastic, the resort was beautiful (and so was the beach), and there were just enough activities to keep us busy when we weren't reading by the pool. Looking forward to going back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Had an amazing stay here! We're here for our honeymoon.. And it was a wanderful experience, the staff were super friendly and helpful.. They even give us extra and exceptional services for some of the delays.. It was really pleasant and nice resort.. The room is awesome as well.. We really enjoy ourselves.. We wish to come back again, our stay for 1 nigy is too short!
Cons: Beach is clean, but just water not as clear as other island that were further away..
5.0 Okay
Pros: Staffs - Every staff greet when they walk by. The food - The food in Fisherman’s Cove is great. The tiger prawn (Catch of the day) is the best.
Cons: The Room - When we arrived the reception, the staff informed the Kinabalu Villa (South China sea view) we reserved three months ago was not available due to hot water issue. They should have informed us earlier before we got there because we came here to see that view. Therefore, they said they have to downgrade us to Canopy villa (no sea view) with the agreement on refunding MYR $200 to us when we check out. Facilities - We rent the hydrobike that was additional charge and we paid full price in cash immediately. While we bike it far away from the shore, the chain of the hydrobike broke suddenly because of rusted chain. We had to drag the whole bike back to the beach by swimming that wasted our time. They need to keep up the maintenance! Trust issues - First, they promised to refund MYR$200 when we check out as mentioned above. They didn’t do that! When we looked at the bill summary, they still charge us the same price pretending we still stayed in the Kinabalu Villa which we didn’t. We had to ask them then they changed it. If we didn’t double check the bill, they would have charged us without letting us know. Seriously? In addition, they still charged us for the hydrobike rental even through we have already paid it in cash. We told them about it, they doubt us and they called the beach rental place to confirm. Then, they took the charge off. Again, they would have charged us already if we didn’t ask. If you go there, make sure to ask them to give you receipts of everything you paid. The under water view - Just don’t Snorkel in the there. There is nothing much to see.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing. The staff we’re absolutely fabulous they attended to everything. Such happy memories.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We chose to stay at the resort at the end of our trip around Sabah as a treat - it was by far our most expensive hotel of the whole holiday. Paying those prices you do of course expect very high standards and the room, general facilities and friendliness of staff definitely delivered. It's a beautiful resort and the staff were all incredibly helpful, gorgeous water and setting. Loved the free yoga and meditation too.
Cons: Sadly, we did experience a number of issues during our short stay. Most of these were down to poor communication / booking systems at the hotel - this included our yoga booking not existing when we arrived at class (despite booking 2 days earlier at reception), the hotel mis-communicating diver numbers to Borneo Dream Travel for a diving day resulting in over an hours delay to the trip, our paddleboard booking also not existing when we went to pick up our boards (despite booking over 24 hours earlier), duplicate charges on our final bill at checkout which I luckily spotted and got refunded, and finally our luggage ending up at the police station at the airport (!) as the resort put our bags on the wrong ferry - despite me confirming 3 times which boat we would be on. A very stressful end to our trip. At no point were we offered compensation or any gestures of apology for these various issues - this could have been as simple as a free drink, but nothing was forthcoming sadly. Given the high prices of the rooms, food and drink at the resort, we also felt it a real shame that the ferry journeys and water sports equipment came at an additional cost (particularly when one of the paddle boards is missing its fin making it really hard to use!). It would have been nice for these to be free of charge - as they are at many other resorts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location: Perfect location on a very pretty island located only ten minutes from KK (Jesselton Point), if you are going to a resort like this my guessing is you wish to remain inside it and use all the amenities etc so in regards to location on the Island it doesn't really matter. However, there is access via boat to a private beach (Tavajun bay) which is really pretty and tranquil. First Impression: When the boat approaches the private pier you can't help but be impressed by the crystal water approaching the clean white sands, the architectural decadence of the resort and obvious intent for it to blend in with the natural background. Staff are lined to aid you across to the reception area and then you are greeted with smile, fabulous fruit ices and cold towels, this is a really nice and often highly appreciated touch. Service: The service from the people that work here, is in our opinion, above and beyond expectation. From Layla in the bar to Ramash in Feast Village, Xia in the reception managing her staff and then the highly amusing Head Chef Lao (might have his name wrong here) they couldn't do more to accommodate. We got engaged on the resort and these people could not have made us feel more special, we are eternally grateful for this memory that we will take to the grave. Room: We stayed for three nights in one of the Kinabalu Villas after a hard few days actually climbing Mount Kinabalu. The room was very spacious with very modern and classy touches including double sink areas, a huge two person bath and an extremely large, comfortable bed with very fine cotton sheets. Little quirks like umbrellas, pool side sandals and bags made the experience that little bit more special. The balcony area we had was beautiful, we sat watching the sun rise over Mt Kinabalu, then the monkey's in the neighboring trees climbing over the canopy's and I even popped the question on our balcony before dinner. Food: Excellent everywhere!
Cons: Not sure if this is actually a problem the resort can solve?! But... The resort markets itself in a way which I believe would really attract honeymooners and couples looking for a romantic Spa retreat/getaway/break. However, the resort attracts a lot of families also, unfortunately I don't feel the resort is big enough to accommodate both sets of people who both hold very different holiday ideals. We are a very understanding couple who love kids but the kid pool is tiny, which means they play in the main pool, splashing and knocking drinks etc, which, is all normal kid behavior but when you are lying on a sun lounger trying to just relax in the sun and drink Mojitos it's not ideal. Parents would often tell their kids to be quite and stop messing about but they are only kids doing what kids do. We had to move twice because we were getting splashed and a ball hit one of our drinks, knocking it over. In the restaurant areas the children would often run around the tables and this did make having a romantic meal a bit challenging at times. We spent some time with other couples on the beach and ended up drinking in the bar with them until we were all quite inebriated but with the abundance of minors present we all felt a bit out of place having a dance to the local band or getting a bit silly. I'm sure parents were looking at us, with the odd swear word coming out accidentally, and thinking we were not fitting in with their resort ideal holiday also. I think in a 5 star resort there perhaps does need to be distinguished different areas for families and adults as they are clearly on two very different experiences.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you are on the fence about booking here i would say DO IT! We stayed for only 2 nights at the end of August. It was an amazing end to our travels in Borneo. Although we didnt get fantastic weather, there was still loads to do and the staff were so so friendly, the food was amazing and our room was just outstanding. wish we could go back and do it over!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stay at Gaya Island Resort, loved the rooms and resort facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Food was delicious with a lot of variety but expensive.
Cons: Expensive food and activities, some activities were already fully booked. Could do with AC room as no AC in communal areas
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Total relaxation a short hop from KK. Just what we needed
Cons: A little disorganised in certain areas. Wouldn’t stop me staying again though
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely nice and attentive staff! Beautiful nature and lots of activities to choose from!
Cons: Swimming pool can be a bit better maintained
6.0 Good
Pros: Attentive & friendly staffs, nature, relaxing
Cons: With the price, expected the room to be slightly more premium. But overall still ok.

Pros: The people. Very prompt and friendly service from all staff and professional yoga teacher! Great to have free activities organized by the resort. And I love the burgers too! The sunset is amazing. Can't wait to be back! And it is such a short distance from airport!
Cons: I love everything about the resort!

Pros: Rooms are spacious and have all the facilities you need. Restaurants serve delicious meals and the staff are amazing and attentive to all your needs.
Cons: Leaving
7.1 Good
Pros: The name, garden and sunset.
Cons: Crowd with too many kids
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is superb..! Room was nicely prepared, and the swimming pool is among the largest. There is also a nice mini water park for children. The resort area is very nice and clean. This resort is famous for the sunset view.
Cons: If you are only staying in room and don't use much of the facilities, then the room rate is not worth your money (its expensive). Can be a little too crowded at times, so if you want a private vacation with tranquility, this may not be an ideal place.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Double room much better compared to family room
Cons: Check in - although advised of early arrival
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Option to upgrade to tanjung wing $50 per person per night , sensational value.
Cons: Not much.
5.8 Okay
Cons: club lounge is poor and not valuable. breakfast quality is also not so good. I was not willing to have that.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is in the right amount of luxury Not too much and not too less The staff is very friendly and polite Very clean room Nice and comfortable feeling in the room Perfect location Very secure
Cons: Too busy at the main lobby pick up and drop off area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful and spotless clean the rooms were comfortable and the amazing toiletries made it even better. The staff were so nice and welcoming especially in the club lounge.
Cons: There was nothing I didn’t like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous resort and facilities. Wonderful and kind staff. So many things to do at the resort with daily activities scheduled for both kids and adults. Excellent breakfast buffet with a large variety of food. Large pool as well as kids pool and waterslides. Very good wifi most of the time. Top notch fitness facility with life fitness equipment. Very short ride to the airport. A short taxi into town that was very inexpensive.
Cons: All was perfect except for the dinner buffet. It was quite expensive and the food was a bit cold. My 8 year old picky eater couldn't find anything really to eat.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and location are both excellent
Cons: Keep it up
6.7 Good
Cons: I had been charged double via my credit card..shame, please sort this thing out booking.com
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, spacious rooms, nice view from pool
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Location is great! Connected to a mall with a easy assess in and out. Room is spacious and pillows are comfortable. Good shower pressure.
Cons: Housekeeping did not go clean thoroughly. Found the leftover food most likely from the previous guests at the corner of the room. Private parking is charged at 10ringgit per day. One of the receptionist doesn’t make me feel welcomed, promised to call me when room available as we arrived earlier but did not. Nice rooftop bar with pool, stated there opened at 8am, however there’s no staff around until 845am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and conveniently located next to a shopping centre with all the amenities
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location - very close to Jesselton point. The view on the roof is nice. Also I forgot several things in the room upon check-out. I contacted the hotel via email and on the next day was able to get them back.
Cons: It took us 1 hour to check-in because the first room they gave to us was not cleaned (with someone's hair all over the floor, fingerprints on furniture, dust etc), and the second room had a very strong cigarette smoke smell. They asked us to wait for another room in the first room (with hair on the floor). While we were sitting there a cleaning lady came and started vacuum cleaning just in front of us while we were there! The rooms are shabby and outdated. Not a 4 star hotel as you expect. The rooftop area is not as advertised. The hotel reconstructed the whole area, and now most of the roof is occupied by a restaurant. A new swimming pool is veeery small. And there are no armchairs and only 4 sunbeds. After reconstruction pictures on booking.com where not updated. If we had known all these we would have chosen another hotel for a much more reasonable price.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location, the breakfast area and the rooftop
Cons: The lobby is somehow small and there's a very nice lounge in the rooftop and empty most of the time cause it's designated for the VIPs.
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast & the sunset view from the pool
Cons: A little bit of noise from the other room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was the deciding factor that made me choose this hotel. Situated adjacent to Suria Shopping Mall, it is really convenient to eat, shop and stroll around for trinkets.
Cons: Breakfast was really not up to the standard. Food was basically tasteless, like taken out from cans. Did not refill in time and we had to wait for enough food. Banquet staff should be trained well, some just stood there to greet but didn't direct us to a vacant table. The reception was better, ever helpful and all smiles.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staffs. Spacious, clean and comfortable room. Beautiful sunset view on the rooftop
Cons: Certain guests were smoking on the non-smoking designated floor. It would have been even more pleasant if the Non-Smoking policy was properly enforced by the hotel Manager.

Pros: Everything, tho larger than I was expecting. The staff were outstanding and the service in the restaurants excellent.
Cons: Maybe a little too noisy and crowded at breakfast, having said that, the series’s still fantastic
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A big nice Family Hotel of the 5 star bracket. All amneties as expected. The Pools very best, since our kids could choose between 3 different Hotel Pools from the adjacent Sutra chain Hotels (Harbour).
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pure luxury! A lovely base to explore KK from. I accidentally left my phone in a Grab taxi just before we checked out. The staff at reception together with the Help desk at Grab, and the driver herself combined to get my phone back to me. This was over and above expectations and much appreciated.
Cons: The only minus of our stay was the music blasting of an afternoon from the outdoor bar area by the pool...no-one seemed to be enjoying it except perhaps a few bar staff. It spoiled the lovely setting a little bit.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed 8 nights & overall I could not complain one bit about the Magellan. We did have a problem with the air conditioner in our room so they upgraded us for 5 nights in one of the best rooms. The original room was fantastic but the upgraded room was out of this world. Large bedroom & living area (separate) with an ensuite & a powder room. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Cons: Only the A/C problem in the initial room. Otherwise it was sensational
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything is just wonderful. definitely will go back there in the future. really recommend others to go there. will not disappoint.
Cons: none
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Reasonable price.
Cons: There were some ants.
7.1 Good
Pros: Lovely breakfast spread although the crowds were a bit daunting. We however always got a table quite quickly and ate to our fill. a good selection of facilities and activitieson site. Staff were very friendly and courteous. All the meals we ordered for room service were excellent. Housekeeping were excellent.
Cons: Cocktails and drinks at Nariks bar were terrible. Live band was great although could start earlier. Food at the bar was a bit disappointing. Property could do with a face lift as our room seemed to have seen better days. When we first enquired about tourist attractions and activities in the area, the receptionist told us there was no information about this...we later found a desk where we could book activities..was a bit surprising that the receptionist would not have know this. When we checked in,past midnight the day we arrived,we were just directed to where our room was and not escorted...the hotel is big so we go a bit lost initially.could have been helped. I think given the cost, the hotel can afford to polish up.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: view
Cons: soundproof
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can use pacific facilites. It has many outdoor pool.
Cons: It has too small private beach
10.0 Excellent

Cons: The food at the executive lounge could be better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view, ie sea view was beautiful. The room was spacious.

7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful views sea side, roof bar amazing as is the club options especially if you drink.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Neat clean and centrally located
Cons: Restaurants close too early
6.5 Good
Cons: I wanted to change my itinerary and bring my hotel stay a day forward, from the 21st to the 20th. I offerred to pay the difference in rate if any. Hotel staff told me they cannot do that for me as booking was made via a third party. It was actually made via a fourth party as Kayak outsorced it to getaroom.com. The actual helpline indicated in the booking email (469-675-5368) was possibly run by a fifth party. They were utterly unhelpful with my request to change the booking date by a day, even though I did offer to pay any difference in price. Rigidly cited some sort of policy. I went back to the hotel staff in person and tey also continued to refuse to help. The consequence was that I had to book another hotel for the 20th, did not stay at Le Meridien on the 21st and my money was wasted. I will not be booking via Getaroom ever again and I will be avoiding Le Meridien.

Cons: Breakfast could be better, some peanut butter and some oats would be good!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful in organising tours and 24 reception was ideal.
Cons: Breakfast was basic, only toast with a sweet jam and some fruit.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location, nice room ! Tea coffee and water available for free
Cons: The breakfast is really basic.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hostel was clean and the staff were very friendly. It was close to the city centre and had a comfortable, spacious room to hang out in. It was very accommodating for a hostel for both food, help with the local area and problems that may arise.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Big dormitory rooms and a very nice common area. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very basic ( toast and jam ) but didn't expect more for that value. Very clean and comfortable. Would definitely come back and recommend it. They offer tours like diving, snorkeling...
Cons: Wifi only works in common area.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good location and big common area
Cons: Water pressure was really bad and breakfast is really pour.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This place ruled. The common area was huge and overlooked the main street; I had front row seats to the annual mooncakes festival celebration! There are great restaurants right outside the door. Serina on staff is amazing! I had no plan when I arrived in KK and she basically helped me sort everything regarding dates and activities. She booked Grabs, gave recommendations, and just chatted whenever asked. She made that hostel for me!
Cons: The beds in the dorm are extremely rickety and should be tightened up to not squeak so much. When the outside is loud you hear everything inside the hostel and your room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, toilet and surroundings. Friendly receptionist. Water and breakfast provided.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The address is perfect
Cons: The quilt is too thin to cover. If you open the air conditioner .it will be too cold.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, helpful staff, clean and good breakfast
Cons: Water pressure in showers

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness and nearest with restaurant
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I pay more then the actual price. Im selected paying at counter. The price was around RM150. However, my debit card was charged RM63.00 for booking with booking.com. This thing make me so unhappy with the booking n service. So, the total price i was pay more then RM200 for 1 night.
Cons: Stop the hidden charge.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is great as you're right in the city centre with lots of food options close by; and you're right in the middle of the Sunday market as well. The room was huge but decent enough size, comfortable, and quite clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Cons: Being the middle of the Sunday market is good but expect a bit of noise early morning as they set up. The city hall is next door so if events are being held, the noise can be a bit disturbing.

Pros: The location of the hotel. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping mall, convenience stores
Cons: TV channels to limited. Only 10 channels. Need to add more Sport channels & movie channels
6.3 Good

8.5 Excellent (3,871 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is a 14 story highrise in the heart of Kota Kinabalu city overlooking the island-studded South China Sea. Features a 5 story atrium lobby in the heart of of the business, shopping and entertainment district.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Great front desk and concierge services. They were all very pleasant and helpful. The beds are meticulously made, clean and comfy
Cons: The room is comfortable and clean but needs to be updated. Eg the kettle & coffee making facilities were hidden in a drawer instead of out in the open for guests to see. If the staff didn't tell me about it, I wouldn't have known. The pool is also not great.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The breakfast that had a lot of choice and was really well presented. The location is good.
Cons: The hotel is dated and doesn’t look like what you see in the pictures. Probably were taken years ago. The room was not properly clean we founds hairs in the bathroom, the carpet was full of black spots, the mugs for tea where not clean. In general not a five stars hotel at all. Not good for the price we paid. Would not stay here again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: verry good about sea side
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, fantastic food, friendly staff, nice and comfortable room.
Cons: Some facilities are old and need renovation like room carpet
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Being near Suria Mall and the sea the location of the hotel provides both convenience and a great view. The buffet breakfast is a feast and the gym, though small, was sufficient for some exercise.
Cons: The hotel is clearly around for some years as wear and tear is showing on parts of the furnishings. The pool was beautiful but pool etiquette should be enforced. Fully clothed bathers were observed and one even had her shoes on.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff - very good and very helpful at every turn.
Cons: When you come to a Hyatt you don’t expect 1 pool light out of 8 to work, and the carpets on the room floors to be very dirty - sadly thus is a Hyatt in a very old and tired building and Hyatt have stopped investing. I paid for a 5 star and got a 3 star.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The views, locations, breakfast
Cons: The carpet need to Change dzul
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Too basic

Pros: We stayed in a beachfront villa with a gorgeous sea view. The villa was super clean and spacious, we had everything we need and even more! For example, a telescope! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had no issues during our stay. Electricity and hot water were available all the time. The sea is clean, and after 4 pm. there is no one on the beach. Very romantic! If you are lucky you may see a big lizard walking in sands (like we did). I also recommend a sunset hike through island jungles. We saw wild chicken among trees there :) Also you may see reef sharks during sunset by the pier. Sutera Sanctuary Lodges is definitely the place you want to return to and recommend to all your friends. So much different to dirty Kota Kinabalu while so close to it!
Cons: Nothing, everything exceeded our expectations. Maybe except for the breakfast. Please please buy a nice coffee machine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a hillside chalet, with a living area, huge bathroom, upstairs bedroom, and 3 balconies, overlooking the beach. Although the beach is not technically private, day visitors to the island tend to venture to the other section of the beach, so it feels like a private beach and remains quiet and peaceful, away from the crowds of day trippers who come to visit the island between 08:30 and 17:00 each day. There are wooden loungers on the section of the beach by the chalets for hotel guests only. The hotel restaurant is a short walk away from the chalets and the food is delicious. You can also get meals delivered to your chalet to enjoy on your balcony, which we did one evening and one morning. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in - the mattress and pillows were heavenly! We left the curtains open at night, so we woke up with stunning sea views from all the windows. A very beautiful, relaxing place to stay with pretty interior decor and spotlessly clean! I would definitely recommend choosing a hillside chalet for a more tranquil stay, with superb views overlooking the beach.
Cons: Nothing!
7.5 Good
Pros: Overall it was a good place to relax and chill. Natural settings in the pristine island especially after 4pm where all the day trippers had sail off. The sunset point is fabulous, a must see!
Cons: Is a little pricey.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I always travel for my birthday and I love going to the beach, I've been to Bali and Maldives. This year I booked 3D2N stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges Manukan Island Resort. Starting from the port (speedboat service) the staff are accommodating and very helpful. We left on time. When we arrived to the resort everyone was there to welcome us. I love their lemongrass tea welcome drink and the cold wet towel to freshen up. We were assisted straight to our room. I picked the Hillside Villa because of the wonderful and picturesque view of the beach and sunset. Left side of the beach is busy from 9am-4pm due to day tour trips. But the hotel provides us an exclusive area for hotel guests. The water is sooooooo clear you can see fishes swimming around, the staff tries to maintain the cleanliness of the shore but since some guests leave or throw their trashes at the beach it's very challenging. I commend the Resort Manager Mr. Adamz, he's very friendly and manifests excellent customer service. All the staff are hospitable and welcoming. I appreciate Einstein, for arranging our island hopping activity. I highly recommend that they offer trips and tours care of the resort already. I was really disappointed on one of the coordinators of the boating company we booked. He's very rude, discourteous and ill-mannered. Really thankful to Mr. Adamz and team for hearing my complaint and making sure that the boating company owner is well informed. The food selection is good, Maybe they can add more fruit juices. I've tried the steak, snack platter, marinara, bolognese, nasi goreng kampung, melaca jelly, american breakfast and many more. Cute Kinabalu dance number they prepared for my birthday dinner. :)
Cons: I was really disappointed on one of the coordinators of the boating company we booked. He's very rude, discourteous and ill-mannered. Really thankful to Mr. Adamz and team for hearing my complaint and making sure that the boating company owner is well informed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The size! It felt very luxurious. A great memory. I’m so glad we stayed. I wish we’d stayed another night.
Cons: Well, it wasn’t cheap but it was a special occasion and it was a fantastic room.
7.5 Good
Pros: Beach villa was great. Big bedroom and bathroom. Free drinks topped up in fridge daily. Patio area to sit in. Good air con. Private beach area was good as it had deck loungers.
Cons: The island is very busy with tourists in the day but we were lucky that our beach villa was set further back from the main path. Staff were friendly but a little chaotic. Terrible wifi- it only occasionally worked in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There were a lot of negative reviews about wifi and the restaurant being the only food for dinner. They must have forgotten it is an island, were very impressed considering how small it is. Overall, the facilities were clean and beautiful. The perfect place to relax! Padi diving centre was also a treat for any licensed divers.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff are absoltely lovely and very helpful. The white beaches and warm clear water were exactly what I wished for. The private beach with sun-lounges and shade cloth for guests (away from the hundreds of tourists) is fabulous and you can even get food and drink service to your lounge on the beach. Off the private beach there is a great coral section (with live coral and lots of fish) which is super for snorkelling. The restaurant has lounges and a lovely view, and serves fresh food and cold drinks.
Cons: The rubbish!! I don't understand why the hotel management don't employ groundsmen to clean all the grounds and the beaches. I only saw one man cleaning a little section on the private beach. There is a lot of plastic rubish washed up on the beaches all the way around the island and nothing is cleaned away. The tourists leave rubbish on the ground too and it is still there the next day. Rubbish was even in piles outside my bathroom window. Also, There are little reef sharks in a green dirty tank at the marine centre...this is cruel, if nothing else clean the tank. The pool water was cloudy - need a pool man to get the water balance right so it is crystal clear...so I didn;t swim in it. The accommodation is new and nice, but the rest of the facilities are a little tired and worn and need maintenance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location of the hillside lodges was brilliant, overlooking the beach and the sea. Free sunbeds on the beach for hotel guests. Each lodge had a huge space on two levels, with numerous balconies, massive bed, luxurious fixtures and fittings. Even the fridge was kept stocked with free drinks.
Cons: The island's only restaurant could have had a wider choice. Became a bit samey after three days.
7.9 Good
Pros: Beautiful view from the hillside villa, spacious and comfortable. Good food in the restaurant and a brill band during dinner.
Cons: Very hot in the villa - air con and fan a bit temperamental! Did feel that for such an expensive room it would have been nice for our bags to be taken up and collected rather than us lugging them ourselves, and also for the snorkel and masks or maybe breakfast to be included. As gorgeous a spot as it is, it didn’t feel like value for money for us.

Pros: strategically located - within vicinity of good food outlets and access to other parts of KK.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and clean. The staff are friendly and would always greet you. We liked the hotel’s initiative of reducing plastic bottles by providing drinking water in glass bottles in the room. The location is quite convenient being close to Gaya St, Suria Mall, Jesselton Point and the KK waterfront. Endless food options nearby but Woo! Cafe was our favourite cafe within the vicinity. There are lots of banks nearby too so never have to worry about looking for an ATM.
Cons: The view from our room isn’t the most inspiring. Mattress is quite firm (Asian style) and laundry is expensive (ended up going to a nearby laundromat) but that’s about it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is good for local food hunting.
Cons: All our cards, totally 3 rooms, are deactivated at 11 something before we check out. We stay at room 116 for 5 nights. Room 116 has regular noise at 06:30 every morning. Sounds like engine noise.

Pros: I had a room at the 11th floor overlooking the city, windows from floor to ceiling. Nice! There was a sofa to chill and enjoy the view, a desk to work on and a big bed with such a comfy mattress! The best I had on my trip so far. The hotel has a gym which was the main reason for me to come here. It is small but clean and the machines are in good condition. Even mats are there.
Cons: I was not aware that the pricing on booking.com does not include taxes and service charge so I had to pay extra, plus the tourist tax. All together I would not call a bargain.

Finally after much meeting and discussions with reception (Mr. Daniel was nice about it), was given an acceptable room (deluxe or not, I do not know). The air-conditioning level does not work. Despite highlighted to to DM on the fist day night time, we found it still not fixed upon returned from our day trip on 2day night! Unbelievable ! While doing our booking, they already new is 2 pax, but the toilet amenities set up is lousy, only given 1 toothbrush, and a bottle of body wash, shampoo, condition and lotion. Feel like been cheated for the price i paid and been given and treated such lousy service and treatment! No one seem take ownership, from House keeping, Duty Manager and GM. How can they check in guest to a problem room?? And i do not see any following up action from DM to GM too! That is upon my complaint on 2night, then the DM upgraded to for their club lounge at L11. But why cant they take a more proactive approach? Will not recommend anyone to stay if they have a choice !

2.5 Mediocre
Cons: We check in after 2pm but my room wasn't ready yet because the front office told us the customer just check out and they need about 40 min for housekeeping to clean it. I think this is unacceptable. They should at least compensate us something in return . At the end me and friend has to wait in my other friend room while we waited for our room. Room is very old. We also experience 2 times blackout during our day of check out. Previously the staff of the hotel also percharge my credit card 2 times and if I didn't realize it and raise this issue ,probably they also didn't realize their mistake. Honestly i won't recommend any of my friends and family to stay here again.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I came back from day-long snorkeling and was surprised to see a little note left by the housekeeping maid wishing me a wonderful day. It was a very pleasant note.
Cons: The bathroom towels may need new replacement

Pros: The call from receptionist asking about how the room when I just arrived at the room. Our room is 1015,overlooking the mountain. Got bathtub and Toileteries kit. Even Ming Garden, more expensive hotel also doesn't have this. The breakfast also considered good. The shower pressure is enoughly strong.
Cons: The aircon is centralised and it doesn't have a controller to turn off. the temperature can be adjusted but still the blower still turned on. I am having fever and imagine how to dealt with this. The hotel is old but it is very clean, especially the toilet.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Aside from the long checkin our stay was fantastic, exactly what we needed for our last 2 nights in Sabah. We forgot what a hot shower was until Shangri-La, the beds and pillows were incredible, soooo comfortable, rooms were a good size, bathroom was nice. The buffet breakfast was really good and for the most part staff were friendly. It was in a good location just a short walk to everything would 100% stay again.
Cons: We arrived late at night and when we got there the man at the desk wasn't too friendly. We also were surprised with having to pay extra for tourism taxes and deposits etc. It would be great to know the prices upfront. There also seemed to be a lot to do at check in with signing papers etc. As we were exhausted we were questioning the extra payments we had to make as we didnt understand and the man wasn't much help and was rather grumpy. There are also no power points by the bed and only one point, not ideal for two people.
