Pros: Service was excellent! The best I have ever experienced. Real 5 star service from the doorman, front desk, restaurant staff, bar tender, housekeeping, etc., all the employees were extremely courteous, helpful, attentive, and professional.
Hotel is very nicely and tastefully decorated, lots of artwork and fancy walls, ceilings, etc, and our room was very comfortable. They gave us a free upgrade upon check-in (from a deluxe room to a grand deluxe).
Location is perfect - it is right in the middle of town, close to all the attractions, restuarants, and shopping. Yet the inside of the hotel is very quiet and relaxing.
Breakfast buffet (included in our room rate) was AMAZING!! Excellent food, lots of choices, and of course excellent service from the staff.
I think it would be OK for kids, but it is probably better suited for adults.
My wife and I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this hotel!

Pros: I liked the breakfast buffet, and all the staff were very, very helpful and welcoming during all our stay. The location is convenient, and you can even walk to the city centre, especially after such a consistent breakfast. It's clean, it smells nice, and you will have a good night sleep for sure, as there are no noise sources around. All in all, I'd stay again. It was a leisure trip, I'm sure for business travelers it's even better.

Only, about 9 o'clock on Saturday, there was so many people, so we must to wait some minutes at the breakfast hall, but it was ok, the breakfast was great. The hotel is located in a calm zone of the city, but there are some bus stops close to the hotel and one interesting Ethiopian restaurant. I appreciate the bidet in the bathroom. The personal was nice - they give us our room 2 hours before the official check in, all prepared. We liked it because outside it was raining. The stay was great for us, we recommend this hotel in Bologna city. I'm sorry that I couldn't buy any postcard of such a beautiful city :(. We must come back any time to buy some poscards!

Pros: The staff was very helpful on arrival to describe the parking situation and restricted areas in town. The lift was broken and they carried our luggage up to the fifth floor for us! We were also happy to rent a room with a private bathroom. We tried to book a second night but they were full- so the staff helped us search for another hotel to fit our needs and direct us there.

When checking in there was an issue with the ensuite I had booked, so I had to take room with bathroom across the hall for one night. The manager immediately reimbursed me for the difference though.

Pros: The staff was very helpful on arrival to describe the parking situation and restricted areas in town. The lift was broken and they carried our luggage up to the fifth floor for us! We were also happy to rent a room with a private bathroom. We tried to book a second night but they were full- so the staff helped us search for another hotel to fit our needs and direct us there.
Cons: Not much of a breakfast selection. Also expect that the hotel is in the middle of town and therefore noisy throughout the night.

Pros: The location is hard to beat, in easy walking distance from the Piazza Maggiore and historic Bologna. The rooms are functional and clean. When checking in there was an issue with the ensuite I had booked, so I had to take room with bathroom across the hall for one night. The manager immediately reimbursed me for the difference though.
Cons: The location is great but the hotel also lies on a large shopping street (Via Ugo Bassi). If you are noise-sensitive, I would recommend bringing ear plugs. Breakfast isn’t much to write home about; some of the pastries were stale and there’s nowhere to eat, except your room. I would skip breakfast at the hotel and go for one of the nearby pasticcerias. On the last day, the elevator in the building broke - the reception is located on the fourth floor.

Cons: We had cold room. I asked at the reception to increase the heating. I Hoped, after my request will be pleasantly warm in our room but not. I haven't experienced that in a 4-star hotel I'll be sleeping with a scarf on my neck and still covered with another blanket. I woke up with cold nose and ears. We had the last room on the corner, where there were windows on all the walls and that was why it was so cold there. But if they can't turn on heating there so don't offer that room guests.

Cons: The hotel is on a small plaza that contains an open air bar that caters to many of the students that live in Bologna. This bar is one of the epicenters of student nightlife and you literally could not sleep because of the noise. Our travelling companions whose room faced the bar, asked to change rooms and were accommodated but anywhere in the hotel was too loud! At 4:00am, it was still too loud. Part of the problem is that it was unseasonably warm for October but the air conditioning was not available to guests so we had to keep the windows open as much as possible. As a result we were zombies most of the time in Bologna. Also, priced too high for the accommodations! We stayed in four other properties in northern Italy and this is the only one that I thought was not a good value.

Pros: Location is good. From outside the building looks good, authentic. But as soon as you arrive to the room the deception kicks in.
Cons: Room is good but very warm. Airco is not working. Staff tells me that it's out of the summer season and they cannot switch the airco on. I can open a window. Room is on street side so opening the window lets in all the street noise. After all, this is Italy. Wifi is barely working so you will have to use your mobile data contract. Even the TV antenna signal is not strong enough to show a decent image on the TV. Bathroom smells like the sewer. Breakfast room is a mess, too busy and the breakfast offered is just average. Bar is just average.

Only 2minutes from the train station and about 15-20mins walk from the heart of the historic centre. The walk itself is fine however as the route takes you past plenty of shops and places to eat.
The breakfast was sufficient and varied- plenty to set you up for the day. The room was big and spacious.

Pros: Mercure Hotel has an excellent location. As soon as you get out of the airport by a bus ticket in one of the markets inside the airports or you can buy the ticket outside at the machine. One ticket is 6 EUR, make sure you have the exact amount of money cause the machine won't give you change. You can also buy the ticket at the bus driver. It's 3 or 4 stops from the airport to Central Station and the hotel is right in front to where the bus leaves you, basically a 30 sec walk. If you are planning for day trips like going to Florence or Venice this hotel is the perfect location. Staff speaks very good english and is able to provide with all sorts of info. Bologna is a very interesting city, with lots of history and good food. You won't feel overwhelmed by tourist like in other italian cities. And the other thing is that most of the hotels in Bologna are old style, so don't expect to find something with a modern architecture, but that's what makes Bologna special.

Cons: the room Hotel seems a bit old facilities.. the elevator is not able to use once. (keep re-opening the door, couldn't close) that I have to change to another elevator. I don't have a time chance to taste their breakfest yet.

Pros: I wish I could give this place a better review. The room was very comfortable and they had great freebies, more than just the usual shampoo. And the breakfast is excellent (although we were there early, around 7:30), even though some others have complained about it when arriving late. However, it was over 30 in Bologna and muggy when we were there (even at night!) and the thermometer in our room was showing 29 when we arrived. There was no point trying to turn it up as the A/C is controlled by the front desk. Yikes! Never heard of such a thing before, but it's true. The temperature only decreased by a degree that first day. The second day was even worse--the A/C was "broken" and only repaired late in the day. Of course none of this matters if you happen to be visiting outside the summer months...oh yes, almost forgot. The electricity went out in our room altogether on the third day, but was taken care of promptly when we notified the front desk.

Cons: The hotel is on a main street, my room was on the first floor facing the street hence there was very loud traffic noise. The room was extremely hot. I was told by the staff that the ventilation system cannot be used until mid-April and my window was broken. When I asked to be moved to another room, I was told they were too busy. Not a nice stay at all.

Cons: Very dated but have to allow for the age of the building. Electrical points were old-fashioned 3 point sockets so needed to borrow an adaptor from reception. Should have been offered to us. Very poor lighting, and poor cosmetics.

Cons: I couldn’t sleep due to the high noise from the Cinema which is attached to the hotel. When I talked to the staff, I was told I should have requested a room on the other side of the hotel, as I was supposed to know. Furthermore, the wifi was not working. Same, when I talked to the staff, it received the same placid answer: there are two many people connected. Last time I visit there.

Cons: Beds were also very old and uncomfortable. Carpet hasn’t been changed since 1950. We originally walked into the hotel to book a room for the following night and the man at the desk just said “no, completely full” without even checking. Five minutes later we were able to book the room on booking.com, as there were plenty available.
