Granus - Aachen - Building
1
8.9 Excellent (842 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Granus in Aachen, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of RWTH Aachen University and Aachen Cathedral. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and an elevator. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice service with cosy atmosphere
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good room. Coffee/tea facilities. Very nice breakfast. Close to Carolus thermen.
Cons: Nothing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice lady in the reception, helped us with the parking in a backyard across the street. Clean room. Comfortable beds. Nice walk to the town center through a park.
Cons: When we arrived to breakfast just before 8 o'clock, there was just one tiny slice of cheese, two liver-sausages and some brawn left to the bread. However an immense choise of preserved vegetables and some yoghurt. The bread was on the reception desk in the adjacent room, no rolls or sponge-cake left only bread to cut. When asking for more the staff had no time, they were busy asking all the newly arrived guests about coffee, tea and eggs (glad that we got our coffee and tea in time and soon could leave the mess in "Fawlty Towers").
7.1 Good
Pros: This is a very small hotel that delivers above what the small building offers. For example, the tiny room (single) was well laid out and spotlessly clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast is good, with far more choices than a small hotel usually offers. (For example, when the white bread rolls ran out at breakfast, the hostess went to the bakery for more.) WiFi was easy to use and fast. There were enough power points in the room to recharge all my devices.
Cons: The single room was really tiny. Hardly any floor space after the bed and a desk. The blanket was a rough material, not soft or comfy. The bathroom was also tiny, with my legs hitting the shower enclosure when sitting on the toilet. And I did not like the squeeze soap and shampoo. The elevator was also tiny, but functioned faultlessly. The hotel is on a busy side street, near the Red Cross, so all night there were shrieking ambulances going on the street. You'll hear them even with closed windows. (Staff said that right now, October 2019, ambulances are more frequent due to road works on other streets in the area.)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very cozy, nicely located ( 3 min walk to the thermal water complex and 12 mins to the historical center), on the calm street near to the park. Rooms are comfortable. The owner family is extremely kind and make you feel like home, parking is on the site (needs to be reserved in advance). Breakfast is amazing. Atmosphere in the hotel is very comfy and feels like you are in the nice German 19th century house.
Cons: The noise from the stairs such as people walking, opening and closing of the other room doors and the reception door opening and closing are annoying and woke us up every morning ( our room was on the first floor), from 7am it is constant noise, which is of course normal as people start to wake up, breakfast start to be prepared and etc, but the good new room doors would solve the problem, I suppose. The pluses of the hotel are bigger than this negative point, but in any case during your vacation you want to sleep comfortably in the morning.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent although it would have been nice to have something else cooked with the eggs. By the way we all loved the Austrian bread. If you have the recipe in English we would love it!
Cons: The staircase was hard work with my weak leg but we realise there is nothing you are able to do to change this. The lift served its function well and location was ideal for our room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect. Just by the main plaza. I loved the old town architecture, yet modern and comfortable room.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and staff.
Cons: Elevator and furniture
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I was staying in a 2-room apartment, with two large twin beds. The lady was very kind and prepared fried eggs at the moment of our breakfast.
Cons: The choice for breakfast was fair.
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice host. Nice room. Great elevator. X-D
Cons: Some more Information in the room would have been nice: WiFi credentials, short manual for computer and shower.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice service, nice small rooms
Cons: The elevator. It is too old and small. If you have difficulties climbing up stairs, prepare for a slow ride in a microscopic and very old elevator.

Cons: nothing
4.0 Okay
Pros: Staff was very very nice. Checked us in as soon as a room was ready. Food at bar was good. Good location if you enjoy a healthy walk to centre of town. Bed was comfortable.
Cons: Breakfast was barely warm each morning. Clock in room was 1 hour advanced which caused some panic first morning. Even after we reported it to the front desk it still wasn't fixed. Is it not possible to find clocks that adjust for DST? Bathroom sliding door could be a danger as it was stiff then closes with slam. Bathroom light was very bright and shined into the mirror across the hall then to the bed. Should have just a night light for the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice clean rooms, great breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We went for a weekend getaway to Carolus Thermen, and the hotel proved to be a great choice. It's very clean, well maintained, and the staff were very friendly :-)

Pros: Convenient for the motorway and very comfortable hotel

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast had a multitude of choice, too good ! As the hotel restaurant was closed we went to an Italian restaurant nearby (5 minutes walking), was very good as well. Hotel location is superb, just out of the highway, with own parking lot.
Cons: Too bad the hotel restaurant was closed that evening as we don't like to go outside anymore once we are settled in. However the staff well informed us of the options nearby (walking distance) which ended up in a very nice dinner & evening.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable rooms, spacey & clean. Breakfast was excellent, good variety, nice staff
Cons: We found it hard to control the temperature in the room. 405 was a bit too cold at night and 404 a bit too warm. Maybe I should've requested assistance.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean Hotel nice breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect
Cons: It could have a little bit warmer in the room
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The fitness room exceeded all my expectations for such a relatively small hotel and was much better than what is sometimes found in the big chains. Here's some information I was looking for but couldn't find on the website: first, the fitness room is relatively small and the ceiling is low, but who ever equipped it knew exactly what they were doing: adjustable dumbells/barbells with dumbbell weights available also for experienced lifters (2x25kg, 4x15kg, 4x10kg, ...), 4 dumbbell handles, 2 barbell handles, bench for benchpress with rack, adjustable bench (which is already a little creaky), little cable machine, etc. Everything needs a little creativity (particularly if you see the equipment for the first time), but quite complete.
Cons: The walls are very thin, so be prepared to share some intimate moments with your neighbours
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and nice staff and good breakfast.
Cons: Small double is really small.

Pros: The location was a plus, just next to city centre. the price was ok, a bit expensive i would say facilities were clean so it was ok
Cons: There was a bit of noise from the street the neighborhood was ok, a bit weird if you walked up the wrong direction
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was really nice there. The breakfast was OUTSTANDING. They had so many options. The location was fab and the bed was very comfy.
Cons: I think the bathroom was a bit dated. I know the site said the bathrooms were renovated, but maybe only some rooms. Regardless, it didn't affect me at all. I'd stay there again.
