As Aachen is a low-emission zone, you must pick up a car hire that adheres to the requirements if you plan on driving around in the city. You'll need to find a hybrid car, preferably one that comes with a green badge or you won't be permitted to enter the city. Smaller, compact models also produce fewer emissions, which are beneficial to driving in a low-emission city. Aachen has the same road rules as the rest of Germany, which are important to know in the country.
