10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best was the welcoming committee! Winston (chocolate lab), Mabel (mixed breed rescue puppy with a bit of terrier) and Spot (senior friendly cat). I lost my dog in February and miss her terribly. It was wonderful to be greeted by happy faces and wagging tails. I felt immediately at home. Grateful for a lovely ground floor single en suite with no stairs. First rate service at breakfast cooked to order, plus fruit, juice, cereal, yogurt, coffee and tea. Every bit of my stay was wonderful.
Cons: When I first arrived in Sandown, it seemed a greater distance from beach and bus stop than I anticipated. But I had been traveling all day and was tired. It actually was a very good location.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great for local amenities, good breakfasts & friendly host .
Cons: Property very dated and needs a total makeover. Double bedroom should be a single and ensuite very small. No wardrobe just a rail with coat hangers.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, cleanliness, price
Cons: No
6.7 Good
Pros: All spoiled by rude behaviour.
Cons: I don't like having to pre-order breakfast and having to order for a set time. I didn't appreciate the rude manner in which my door was knocked at dead on 9 am to call us to breakfast because we had booked it for 9 and were running a minute or 2 late. Nor did I appreciate the rude manner in which my door was knocked at 10am precisely and my keys taken off us on the day we were leaving. Incredibly rude and unprofessional. We felt unwelcome and awkward. These comments are not just me being pedantic, I notice that other reviews mention the same. I was so annoyed by this that I would never stay here again. The breakfast was basic, only orange juice which I can not drink and the sausage cheap. The cooked breakfast portions were very small.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Sarah and Carlo are great hosts! Very friendly and make you feel as if you are staying at a friends house rather than just a B&B.
Cons: Relaxed, cosy and very close to Sandown
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff were brilliant, and the very helpful. Warm Welcome for all.
Cons: Not that I don’t like as that would be unfair. With the owners only having purchased the property end of last year there is a need for works and tlc to be carried out to bring this place back to life. Has massive potential and sure soon it’ll be fresh, relaxing and a beautiful place to stay. At present though it does need some work.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and the owners was very nice and friendly. Lovely outside pool and fantastic views. Made you feel really welcome and if you needed anything they was happy to help. Breakfast was excellent you can basically choose what you wanted and it was always hot.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Had a lovely stay here - Carlo and Sarah couldn’t do enough for us, very friendly and helpful. Excellent position, great pool and right next to a beautiful dog-friendly beach. Good breakfast too!
7.1 Good
Pros: the staff were lovely, good facilities for family/kids etc. The common rooms had a lovely ambience.
Cons: The rooms -size and comfort. secondly, check in was 3:30 pm and check out was 10:30 am - not even a full day. We stayed for one night so because of the check in/check out we were unable to use the pool etc. especially as you have to travel out for food etc. I felt I didnt get value for money because we couldn't use the facilities (pool, beach etc)

Overview Reviews

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel exceeded expectations. We had the family room for the 5 of us. The pictures on their site is out of date as the room has been newly refurbished, plenty of room for 2 adults and 3 kids. The ensuite is modern and clean. The hotel is owned by a family who made us feel very welcome. Nothing was to much trouble. There is a nice little bar and lounge area where we ended the day with a wee dram. Breakfast was great, kippers and poached egg are delicious as was the full IOW breakfast The hotel has plenty of parking. It is an 10 minute walk down to the seafront, where there is plenty of things to do and eat. Highly Recommend.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Staff accommodated our suitcases before and after check in times and were happy to meet individual requests at breakfast time
Cons: The furnishings are very dated throughout all area. I had not realised that they allow dogs in rooms, which I think should come up before booking as I would not have chosen it. No shower gel provided and you have to ask if you want a hairdryer or iron. Our shower had black mound and dirty grouting all over, and the extractor fan did not work. It’s close to the train station but quite a walk to the beach. All information which would be helpful to know before booking
7.9 Good
Pros: Spacious room. Clean toilets.
Cons: Shower

Pros: The hotel is surrounded by a wonderful and relaxing garden. Its location is great: just a few minutes away from the railway station, the town centre and the sea.
Cons: Breakfast time was a bit too early (from 8 to 9, even on Sundays). Our bedroom was nice, comfortable and full of light but it had very thin walls.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The e cellent staff an and good food more than compensated for the tiredness of the hote hotel. Good entertainment and an excellent pub down the road called the Castle.
Cons: Needs a face lift
9.2 Excellent

Pros: Good value for money. The staff are lovely very friendly and happy to help with anything. Our room was very clean the bathroom looked like it had just been fitted.

6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy bed good location
Cons: Bar closes early no entertainment despite it being advertised. Breakfast only served till 9am far too early when on holiday
7.1 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Very small room and flat Screen TV was 14"... bathroom very small( narrow).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: As a 2 star hotel, it wasn't too bad for somewhere to spend a few nights. The staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast was delicious. The shower was of a good pressure in the morning, even when there were others in the hotel showering at the same time and it was of a constant temperature. The bed I slept in was firm and comfortable.
Cons: Decor is quite outdated, could do with a revamp. No phone in the room to contact reception, no information in regards to breakfast times (apart from being told at reception). Not many staff around other than cleaners and a few in the breakfast area. Found the breakfast area hard to find as there is no clear signage. The breakfast selection was minimal and coffee came from a machine rather than fresh.

7.9 Good
Pros: Great location. Right next to the beach which is what we were after. A little expensive but I guess it's peak season. Other than that had a fab time and would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend
Cons: Price was abit on the high side
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was poor. Full English was very small, served on a small plate. Portion control applied, not what we expected. Had to eat away from hotel to avoid being hungry before lunch.
Cons: Staff were rude and ignorant, Not interested in their customers. Had to argue to the point on arrival that we had paid for breakfast, and also the next day that again we had paid for breakfast. The room was hot, granted it was was south facing. The quality and condition of the room was poor. Not what was advertised. It needs updating from the 70's. Pros: Service excellent. Breakfast very good. Bed comfortable. Made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. When I asked for fried slice with breakfast it was done straight away and then Brian remembered and it was provided automatically for the rest of the week. Plenty of car parking.
Cons: The TV in the room could have been larger and more modern. In general the hotel could do with some updating, in particular getting rid of the burgundy net curtains in the lounge and dining room, this would open up the rooms and make them look brighter, other than that nothing that a coat of paint would not sort.

Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Near town and the beach

Pros: Fabulous location, great breakfast!! Nearly every member of staff were friendly and efficient.
Cons: We stayed in newly refurbished room at the front of the hotel. The room was neutral decor and bright although a little on the small size. There were not any drawers to put clothes in apart from the bedside cabinets. There was a luggage rack but the only place to put it would block access to the wardrobe. The main areas were so so dated and Victorian lift was seriously smelling musty.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a sea view. It’s dead opposite the pier and location was great.
Cons: I can’t think of anything to be honest, only stayed one night and it was fine.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff
Cons: No fridge in room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean hotel fantastic view from the hotel and clean comfortable rooms. Very good staff in the hotel and close to the town centre and beach.
Cons: The hotel is geared for coach parties not individual travellers and the resturant sittings are too. As the hotel caters for older travellers there is no wifi in the rooms only the lobby the hotel looks very dated. Not really a suitable hotel for booking.com.
5.8 Okay
Cons: My room was comfortable and the breakfast adequate BUT... I arrived at 10.15 p.m., when Reception was, as I had been informed, closed. I tried the front door which was, as I had been informed, closed. There was a member of staff inside who saw me but took no notice of me. I then tried the Night Bell; there was no response, not surprisingly, since, as I learner later, it was not working; the staff knew this. To open the door I had to know the code for the entryphone; the receptionist, though friendly and ioformative about her home town, had omitted to give this to me, as she should have done whether I requested it or not. My mobile phone, without roaming, was unable to connect me with the two emergency numbers posted on the front door. I now faced the possibility of having to sleep the night on the beach. Fortunately a couple of other visitors arrived after a while, and found themselves in just the same position as myself. They did however succeed in ringing the emergency numbers, and were given the code. The entryphone was so old and worn that it was hard to make out the numbers by the buttons, but after several tries the door opened. The barmaid, to whom we complained, could not have been more helpful and apologetic, but the faults in thr system were made quite clear, Intending visitors should be on their guard,

Cons: no wifi TV not working properly shower faulty
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I am 83, and not as mobile as I once was. My eyesight does not permit me to drive any more. The hotel is located at virtual sea level, with no public transport at that level. The nearest bus stop is at the top of a very steep hill. If I had been aware of this before booking, I could well have had second thoughts. On the first evening, we went to the restaurant for a meal, and were informed that we should have booked. On reading my leaflet, I could see that this was required, but think that Reception should be advised to remind visitors when booking in. There was a good range of choice for breakfast, and the 'full English breakfast' was a good start for the day. My wife and I enjoyed our stay, and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - TO PEOPLE I CONSIDERED FIT ENOUGH TO CLIMB THE HILL!
Cons: If I were on the hotel's management, I would lobby the local bus company to provide a convenient service.
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, clean hotel if a little dated.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, rooms and the loveliest breakfast you could ask for
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Cleanliness, food was good, breakfasts were filling and would suffice until dinner. Like the location as can find my bearings and the bus routes
Cons: No internet in the room, only in restaurant/bar/entrance, had a ground floor room this time as last year it seemed fine when upstairs. Booked an evening meal as was doing the theatre trip that night, paid for 3 course meal, but only ended up only having 2 courses, this being down to maybe not enough staff with the volume of guests and ran out of time.dud to the coach leaving, also it might be a suggestion, that the people going on the trip from the hotel, have priority so they get their full meal and don't feel rushed or forgotten.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good. The hotel facilties - pool and steam room were very good.
Cons: The food was expensive so went elsewhere.
