San José hotels near Parque Nacional

Cons: There was a huge party near the bar when we returned from the National Theater. It was so LOUD we could not get a nightcap and talk. Went to the Argentina bar across the street.

Pros: Ok so the staff is so nice but room 414 had little to no water pressure and trickle of hot water...... I asked the front to change rooms but because they were full no possible.... So sucked it up and took Luke warm shower for two days.... Manager said he would comp a dinner at hotel eatery .... Didn't happen and no one seemed to know how it would work. Bed was comfortable location is great for San Jose . My best advice to anyone staying in Costa Rica is get out of San Jose and see the countryside unless u want to be in New York meets Tijuana

Pros: Great central location. Very comfortable bed. Wonderful shower/bathroom area. Good WiFi speed. Plenty of wardrobe and shelf space.

Cons: I didnt like the fact that the lobby area was on the fifth floor with a total of 2 chairs available at ground level. This was a real nusiance as we checked out at 2pm and were not getting picked up until 7pm for a late flight.if there was no staff available in the ground level area.......and often, they were doing their bellhop duties, then we had no access to the lobby sitting area as it is key code access to get to the fifth floor.The lay out of the room was also totally bizarre, with no door to the bathroom area, coming out of the shower in a direct line to the room entry door ......weird

Pros: Great beds, best location in San Jose, amazing staff and beautiful building. They still have furniture used by JFK on his visit on the fourth floor!

Cons: Glass doors are a bad idea for toilets, even when they are frosted, you can still see the person inside going about their business.

Pros: Save your money and spend it somewhere else it smelled bad the people were rude we paid extra for upgrade the AC did not work breakfast was late the shuttle to airport was late. It was supposed to be free but cost 30.00 I'm trying to find something good to say about it Sorry I can't .

Pros: Location location location! Couldn't have been in a better location. So close to all the tourist spots and good restaurants. San Jose is surprisingly a great city to explore on foot. It certainly has its gems. The staff at the hotel was AMAZING and super friendly and helpful. The included breakfast on the top floor was certainly a treat each morning.

Pros: Awesome location, right in the heart of San Jose. Walking distance to the major downtown sights, like the theatres, cathedrals, and markets. The restaurant is great, and the lobby is well kept.

Cons: Rooms are run down, and not in the best condition. We had to change rooms because of bugs in the first. AC would have been nice.

Pros: This is our second stay here. When we come again to San Jose, this will be our choice. The rooms are all a little different which adds to the unique flavor of Fleur de lys. There are homey sitting areas interspersed throughout. The room comes with breakfast that is out of this world. Better than most restaurants. You wont find dried out food or just empty carbs to eat. No, eggs, rice & beans with cilantro, plantain, fresh fruit galore on and on. There is a lovely front porch and bar area. Complimentary smoothie and friendly, interesting bar tender. The location is slightly out of the way but only by a few blocks. The staff has always been super helpful. You can exchange money at the front desk for just two pennies over the exchange rate and save the time consuming effort of finding a Banco and going thru their process. Recommend highly! Why go to a cookie cutter hotel like holiday inn which is more expensive and boring.

Cons: I can honestly say, we have no complaints.

Pros: Amazing unique place in the middle of San José , is like a hidden paradise very cheap for the zone and the quality , super nice staff and quiet room

Cons: The front desk staff lacks professionalism. On one occasion, I was hoping to use the phone to book a tour. The front desk attendant said that he knew a better company and dialed a number and my friend didn't really ask for specifics and booked the tour. As a side note, that company that starts with the letter "M" was the worst experience I had in Costa Rica in terms of safety while driving. Not only did the front desk attendant have the audacity to refer us to this "M" company, when I called to ask what the company's name was he told me to act like we asked for the number and not tell anyone that he had referred us to them. This is not even the tip of the iceberg. On one occasion, my friend and I were getting a couple of drinks and since most people go out at night, we were called "squares" in Spanish for staying in and drinking at the hotel instead of outside. We found two cockroaches in the hotel which is normal since the front door is always open, but upon finding a third cockroach a day later, I managed to keep it under a glass and left it for the cleaning staff to discard because I forgot to do it. When we returned later that same night and the room was cleaned, we were not given a new glass. The cleaning staff rinsed the glass and left it on top of the desk. I mean, who does that? As a side note, the cockroach was about two inches big and touched the surface of the cup.

Pros: The hotel decor is lovely. Location convenient. Breakfast was nice and staff were pleasant. The bed was comfortable. Had we got a nicer room I'm sure we would have had a better stay.

Cons: The room was plain, unlike photos and was located next door to the kitchen and lobby and had paper thin walls so was extremely noisy. Also no window to outside. Ensure not to get the Lila room downstairs.

Pros: This was the oasis I needed after 2 weeks of roughing it and a couple long bus rides! Quiet room with cable (English channels!) fluffy duvee, clean bathroom with strong water pressure and hot water, I was made new! Staff is very professional and helpful, they even took my AmEx (nowhere seems to!) Breakfast was simple and filling... just hard boiled eggs would be a nice addition. Strong WiFi and free coffee in my room, I was set. The only thing missing was the fluffy robe and slippers. Otherwise a darling B&B and perfect recharge.

Pros: Clean (like, immaculate!), pretty and comfortable. The perfect place to spend a night or two. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Walking distance to shops, downtown squares and panaderias.

Cons: There is a train that runs behind the property a couple times a day. It's not too loud and we never heard it at night, but important to note for people who are really noise sensitive.

Pros: From check-in to check-out, the people behind the front desk were excellent in all respects - - well informed, friendly, and helpful. Fernando, the tour and travel expert, helped us solve a problem with our rental car. Once he understood the problem, he was persistent in following through until the problem was resolved. Additionally, he was able to plot the best possible route for us to get out of the city And on our way to our next destination. He was bright, personable and enthusiastic. Our breakfast hostess was sweet and helpful, especially when I turned down her offer of coffee and explained that my stomach was upset. She immediately brought me a cup of chamomile tea and explained the medicinal benefits it is known to offer. She also gave me two extra bags for the rest of my journey. The parking lot was secure and well attended. Location of hotel was excellent. Bed was very comfortable and shower was excellent.

Cons: Lobby was uninteresting, but this was not a big deal.

Pros: Close walking distance to restaurants and bakery’s. Casino on the property too which some in our party liked. Also secure parking lot was really nice.

Pros: Since UBER is not legal in CR,our transportation expenses were ridiculous. The free shuttle to airport was really very nice. Also, the proximity to museums and shopping was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Cons: Could use new mattresses, linens and pillows. Our pillows and mattress were old and bumpy. Also, we couldn’t open our window curtain because our room was literally right next to a busy street. Our room was very noisy from the traffic to get some rest.

Pros: My sister and I stayed one night at Hotel Aranjuez. The service was amazing and room was clean and comfortable. We were nervous because we hadn't heard good things about San Jose, but we felt safe and welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The receptionist gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and the hotel was close to most major sights. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Aranjuez!

Pros: its a wonderful old building furnished with love and a great garden

Pros: I´ve never seen a hotel quite like the Hotel Aranjuez and I liked it very much! The staff was very friendly and helpful, the area seems quiet and there are a few good restuarants really close by. I can recommend the Castañuelas some 100 meters up the street.

Cons: The breakfast buffet was OK but I had to ask for more ham as that was not refilled. A bit disappointing was that there was no yoghurt nor cheese, but on the positive side there were plenty of fresh fruit. I love fresh fruit!

Pros: This hotel is OK for a brief visit to San Jose. The location is good with the few sights of the City being within walking distance. It is in the safer part of town. San Jose only needs a day or so, being a large town with a small centre.

Cons: The room was a bit tired but functional. The small swimming pool is really just there to cool off if you are visiting in the hot season. Don't expect any more than a functional place to sleep and have breakfast.

Pros: *** Superb Hotel Short Walk to San Jose Center *** Stayed 2 nights. Great location in colonial section—10 minute walk from downtown and neat restaurants. Super clean. Peaceful. Beautiful floors, high ceilings, comfortable beds, great little gym & comfy jacuzzi above pool. Awesome, healthy breakfast complete with fresh, real tropical fruit juices. Guanabana juice. Yum! Staff all welcoming, helpful and kind. At front desk: David gave excellent guidance—especially with restaurants—and service. Omar was very kind and gave great suggestions on what to see.

Pros: My wife and I were very pleased with our four-night stay at the Hotel Santo Tomas. Although the hotel is more-or-less in the city center, our room was quiet. Just as important the hotel had a relaxed feel to it, and the small patios and pool made it easy to forget the traffic and commercial activity nearby. Also worth underlining is that the location of the Santo Tomas is very convenient, that the breakfast is tasty and quickly prepared to order, that everything worked satisfactorily and that staff were friendly. The WiFi was not sensational but for us it was satisfactory.

Cons: Potential guests should be aware that rooms at the Santo Tomas have been shaped by history and vary in size, comfort and design. It is definitely not an establishment offering slick, "cookie-cutter" rooms.

Pros: Friendly helpful staff in front, especially David. Convenient location in San Jose. Good breakfast from a choice of three. Comfortable room for the price. The owner Tomas was very nice and helpful.

Cons: Our safe in our room was problematic as it didn't always function. However, on a positive note they did fix it. Computer was older and rather slow though the latter may be more of an issue with the server in the area.

Pros: Clean, safe, comfortable, and friendly and professional staff. Has gym for a quick workout. You can tell owner takes pride in his property. Breakfast is what owner likes to eat every morning and his wife makes the green hot sauce from scratch. Ended up staying three days instead of one. Location is really good for walking around downtown.

Cons: Rooms are a little dated but are nice and clean and beds are comfortable. Enjoyed stay very much.
