10.0 Excellent
Pros: An incredible and romantic experience that is unique and not reproducible elsewhere. Francesco and the staff were very helpful and made our stay memorable. This is a green hotel...they are preserving a bit of world culture and heritage. Don't pass this up for a stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are amazing and the breakfast spread had lots of choice. The rooms are all individual and staying in one of the caves you felt the history! There are lovely touches in the room and staff are obviously very proud of the hotel and it’s history. It was a short up hill walk to the piazza with the cathedral and lots of sites and restaurants.
Cons: I personally found the cave room a dampish cold and eerie experience. There was nothing missing in the provision and the pillar candles and complimentary wine and fruit were well thought touches but I like nice smells and the atmosphere just wasn’t for me. We only stayed one night which was quite expensive. Fellow guests though found their stays amazing and experienced the in room massages and tried the cookery class and raves about them. Definitely an experience!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantactstic staff. Simply amazing location. Exceptional. We travelled with teenage kids and the staff could not have been more helpful or welcoming.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Sleeping in a restored cave, the amazing breakfast and staff.
Cons: Maybe tea or coffee making facilities
7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful rooms, friendly & helpful service. Excellent view & location.
Cons: If you have allergies and asthma (like me) come prepared. The rooms are musty due to high humidity. This is the one thing I would change. Also there was no TV in our room, but that was not an issue for me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is fantastic Staff is perfect
Cons: None
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We were in a cave. So unusual but so worth the experience. The staff of Marco and Emilia were very helpful.

Pros: The location is just a few minutes from the pedestrian area as well as the “Sassi” . It is a small quiet hotel with sn abundant breakfast shich you can enjoy on the terrace overlooking Matera center and the gravina. I stayed in the very small (monk’s) room which still held everything you might need. Loved it, very particular.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Nice location. Free parking. Much better view for Matera rather than a view which may have inside of the town
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a single room called "Monk's Room" where monk used to live. The room was small but that's what I wanted, I deliberately chose it to experience a stay as if i were in a small cave room. It was an extraordinary experience. Room was very clean, comfortable, warm, not dampness, quiet, shower plenty of hot water. The terrace looking over the town was simply amazing, I had my breakfast in the terrace. Breakfast was a good mixture of sweet and savory, I appreciated they had savory option! such as fresh savory focaccias, eggs, cheese & ham and cherry tomatoes and of course the typical bread from Matera.., all very fresh. I was given two keys, one for main entrance and the other for the back gate. From the back gate you can access to touristic walking route and it was handy to be able to use it in and out. A few minutes walk to Via Bruno Buozzi where there are many eateries. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice place to stay in Matera, you can see nice view from hotel. Short walk to center.

Pros: Location was perfect - within walking distance to everything. Staff was super helpful with everything from parking, to where to eat dinner etc. Room was spacious and comfortable with a nice couch to sit and relax on. The community terrace area overlooking the old town is spectacular - we had wine there in the afternoon and breakfast there in the morning. Would definitely stay here again!
Cons: Nothing!

With a stay at Basiliani Hotel in Matera, you'll be steps from The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches and Casa Grotto di Vico Solitario. Featured amenities include a computer station, multilingual staff, and luggage storage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was terrific. The view when you open the door in the morning is superb. Parking is great. Park the car in free parking outside the city and the hotel pick you up af take you back. No driving in very narrow complicated streets in Matera. Also Breakfast was great and served by a very friendly and helpful lady.
Cons: The couches in the room were very interesting, they also act as a light. However they are a little uncomfortable. A very small thing the place is great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani is in the heart of all you came to see... behind San Pietro for ~200m, just beyond both the Casa Grotto and St Lucia, in Caveoso. Its rock-carved rooms are spotless, and hold every convenience you hope for... including a bathtub in #129, and coffee/tea making for that wake-up cuppa! It also overlooks the famous gorge of the ‘sassi’, and chauffeurs you to/from your car, safely parked on the outskirts of this pedestrian gem. Oh, and the breakfast is varied, fresh and superb!
Cons: Absolutely zilch!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Room is right in front of a breathtaking valley. All comforts. Good breakfast. Right in the heart of Matera. Efficient taxi service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani Hotel is not just an Hotel or even a special one. It’s a wonder of the hospitality world, a magic place in the center of our generation’s history, a place to visit and where you can rest and contemplate about our ancestors and our future. It’s is placed in the best and most convenient location in the sassi. The breakfast is simply the best as well as the welcoming, immediate pickup service and the rooms are designed with great skills and attention to details.... a work of art indeed. I raise my hat to the staff and Giuseppe to have created such an incredible and inspiring staying for us. Thank you so much
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel location and view is superb! We'll come back to Matera and book this hotel again for sure!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very interesting hotel in the middle of the Sassi, room big and clean, staff very nice and location perfect to walk all the city
Cons: Quite difficult to find and the breakfast too simple
9.4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located in a quiet area with an unobstructed view across the valley. Interesting walks through the streets and paths. We had good fun losing our way in the misty fog trying to find our way but all the time feeling safe and sound. Hotel staff very friendly and a special thanks to Pasquale (hope that's spelt correctly) for the top class service of collecting us from our parked hire car which was outside the old cave town.
Cons: We had a brilliant time. Local Information Centre was asking for €40 each for a 2 hour tour. We managed Ok with online research and a lot of walking. Room 128 could have done with a cleaner toilet seat but the rest of the room was stunning and memorable.

La Casa Di Lucio Hotel Relais - Matera - Bedroom
8
9.2 Excellent (429 reviews)
$1,196+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at La Casa Di Lucio Hotel Relais in Matera, you'll be steps from The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches and Domenico Ridola National Archaeological Museum. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The best thing about Hotel La Casa di Lucio was the breakfast prepared and hosted by the delightful Michele. The hotel was well located just off Piazza San Pietro Caveoso.
Cons: I have to say that I was quite disappointed in Casa di Lucio. For a Hotel de Relais, it was uninspiring. Here are the reasons: the hotel is divided into multiple properties -- we checked in at one location, walked to our room in a second, and had breakfast in a third. Apparently there is a restaurant, but we never saw it, nor did the room contain any info on it or other hotel features. The lighting in the room was beyond horrible; the light in the bathroom was insufficient to the task of putting on makeup, and you could not turn off the bedroom overhead light from within the bedroom, which was five steps down from the bathroom. There aren't enough plugs for electronics. The little sitting room contained a small table and one chair - our request for a second chair was not fulfilled. The bed, though comfortable with fine linens, consisted of two singles pushed together, an arrangement I wouldn't expect in a luxury hotel room for two. The bathtub was elevated (as was the bed), with no grab bar -- dangerous, for sure -- and the set-up of the telephone-style shower handle made it impossible not to flood the floor. For nearly €200/night, I expected much, much more.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location. Lorenzo was very welcoming & informative.
Cons: The room was a little dark - needed some more floor or side lights. A kettle in the room would be useful.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room in a lovely hotel, friendly staff and great location for Gallipoli.
Cons: The rooftop pool and large room!
5.0 Okay
Pros: location, courtesy of staff, matera itself
Cons: the hotel is poorly maintained. Cold room, heating didn't work and it could not really be fixed, room electricity key switch didn't work, internet worked very badly, inconvenient shower. Not compatible with a five stars hotel.
7.1 Good
Cons: Upon departure, we had a car booked to take us to the airport at 4 am. That car never showed up. The night person (he didn’t give us his name) was absolutely terrible. He didn’t know how to make the payment, didn’t know how to calculate it or how to use a credit card. When we realised the car wasn’t coming, he was arguing with us and blaming the day staff that the didn’t leave a note telling him and he doesn’t have their numbers, they aren’t picking up, he doesn’t know who the driver is. When we asked him to call another taxi for us he did absolutely nothing and said no one is picking up. We had to call ourselves and find a taxi to pick us up and rush to the airport because we were 45 minutes late. This night person also refused to give us a contact of a manager because we were furious with him at that point, he even tried arguing with the taxi driver when he came (the one that we called) about how he tried to call him but his phone was off (which wasn’t true because we clearly managed to call). This person ruined our stay at the very last moment. He had no knowledge of his job or duties, blamed everyone else and took no responsibility. This was unacceptable.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Incredible location and facility; like sleeping in a church!
Cons: Be prepared for darkness; very hard to light the rooms because of high ceilings.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Old world elegance with modern luxuries. Bed exceedingly comfortable, soft bed linens. Parking in a partner garage efficiently organised so you don’t have to drive through the old town. Staff professional and friendly, great breakfast buffet.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient, the room we stayed architecturelly was extremely well designed and decorated reflecting ancient times.
Cons: Nothing that I can comment. The only difficulty is the parking availability being handled by a vale parking facility

2.9 Mediocre
Cons: Very disappointing, unfriendly to the point of rude, welcome from Federica on our arrival..little to no assistance with information. Room very small & basic for the very big price. Basic breakfast & quite a hike to the main town area. Will not recommend to friends.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Large and clean rooms, air conditioning in the flooring so no noise, variety of breakfast, pool area was lovely and quiet, short walk into town (uphill on the way back), staff were accommodating, parking on site.
Cons: No coffee/tea facilities in the room, no English channels on the tv (one BBC news channel would suffice)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly staff who were very helpful. Close enough to the old town and free parking. Very nice breakfast. Lovely room with a fantastic domed ceiling
Cons: Although close to town the walk up is steep but not for long. The pool looked as if it needed a clean as there were leaves in it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was ok! Our TV solution was very clever I didn’t see same solution earlier.
Cons: Elevator worked only til first floor! Unfortunatelly we had room on the second with more heavy suutcases. Their staff were nice and freindly young girls! They wanted to help me BUt it was “manwork”.

Pros: The best The service 150%
Cons: No complaints
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the property modern and clean.
Cons: The only issue was that is the description it stated that the suite 210 was 100 meters away from reception. It DID NOT mention that those 100 meters were down a very steep walkway of some 80 odd steps or more. my wife has a back issue and found this very difficult to traverse on a daily basis. If we had known this we would not have booked this suite. would not recommend suites 201-210 to anyone with walking difficulties.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Tricky to access, very dry in rooms at night, staff speak no English...as in zero

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable accomodation, easy check in , helpful staff, great location close to cafes and restaurants , amazing views of the sassi. We would definitely stay there again
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location of the B&B, the rooms are big and clean, the owner helped us to pick a restaurant for our dinner that was excellent.
Cons: Breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s in the best location, the room (we booked the larger one) was beautiful and every detail was perfect. We loved staying at this cozy place and would definitely come back again!!
Cons: We were told that we can have breakfast at any time we want as we can just order at the restaurant opposite of the apartment, but the kitchen was closed so most things were not available at around 10am. However, they were so kind to prepare coffee and sandwiches for us which again shows this lovely culture and hospitality of the people here. Thanks for the great stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. The property had character but with all mod cons, even a little outside sitting area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right in the historic city centre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The BB is situated near the main streets of the ancient city centre, but it is easy to reach the place with all the luggage you have, because there are lots of stairs in Matera, and there are some hotels at the heart of the city hard to get to. The parking is quite close if you travel by car (and not expensive). Our room was two storeyed, spacious and quite comfortable. The city is quite a touristic place. So the prices here are high. The BB provides you a good place to spend your time in Matera for a reasonable price.

Pros: Everything. Best staff I have ever met in my entire life! Shame I forgot to ask her name. She was really kind, welcoming and friendly. And i saw many people saying it was a lovely stay when they checkout. You should spend some money and stay at the suite room. the view from the terrace is great. And I loved the breakfast, especially bruschetta. Staffs at the breakfast area was also very nice and friendly.
Cons: You should understand that regardless of the state of your residence, it is not awkward to find little bugs at matera.

7.9 Good
Pros: The property is in a fantastic location, one minute's walk from the Church of St Peter Caveoso and overlooking the Belvedere di Murgia national park (rooms don't necessarily have views). The welcome at check-in was very good and Lorenzo was very friendly and helpful, providing good restaurant recommendations.
Cons: Euro 50 for two days of 'valet' parking (considering for the weekend the car does not move) seems a little steep and there do not seem to be other, self-parking options available (or at least the hotel is not able to propose them).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, views, breakfast, restaurant, staff
Cons: Lacking a bit of hanging and draw space
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Staff were professional and attentive. Breakfast was fabulous.
Cons: We liked everything.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was an interesting hotel- How often are your lodging accommodations in a cave? It was a fun experience! Th room itself was very large with a balcony. It was very modern, new and clean. The modern bathtub was actually in the room! The view was unbelievable-felt like we were in the clouds! Really enjoyed the morning mist.
Cons: I felt the front desk personnel could have been warmer and more informative and welcoming- The bell hops, on the other hand, were wonderful and work hard! There was a lot of walking up to our specific room and it was not easy. One has to be young to accomplish this without worry. Be forewarned, It is definitely worth the experience. Matera is a magical place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, immaculate room. Location couldn’t be better. And the staff was wonderful. A bit expensive but worth it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the time we arrived until we departed everyone from the desk clerk, doormen to the staff in the restaurant made our stay extra special. In particular, Andrea was super helpful and extremely friendly. We have traveled to 80+ countries in the past 45+ years and the hotel ranks in our top 10! Keep up the great work.
Cons: N/A
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The position was amazing and the suite quite unique as we were in a cave suite. Breakfast really good in a wonderful cave restaurant.
Cons: I think that the lighting in our room could be improved
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant view.
Cons: Staff - unprofessional. No parking infront of location, only valet parking for € 25 per day plus each time you want to use your car, it’s another € 5 on the top.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7.3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.

7.0 Good
Pros: breakfast was great, service, food quality and variety.. ,except caffe our room view was nice
Cons: we booked suites, our room was in independent building in different area which is 10 min far from by car and 10 min by foot to the main building and breakfast room. there is not enough information about this subject in hotel information on booking.com web. because of long distance we couldn't use any hotel facilities such as hydro massage pool and spa etc.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The only nice thing is the location
Cons: I didn’t like the bed it was very uncomfortable I didn’t sleep all night. You have to pay to use the pool which is ridiculous.
