Pros: Great communication, the owners are extremely friendly; they had a lot of amazing tips about where to go and where to get the best views. You can tell they are passionate about and love their city! Arrived early but was able to check in regardless, and they had no issue at all with me leaving my luggage for a few hours. Great service, location and value for money. Would definitely come back!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, clean B&B in a fantastic location, 10minutes walk from the central train / bus area and right down the street from the main sights of Matera. Single room was clean, bright and functional with clean bathroom. Breakfast was average mix of yoghurts, breads, cheeses and fruits. Staff were super friendly, offering tips on what to visit and where to dine as well as helping with organising an onwards bus ticket to Bari for me. They went out of their way. I'd stay there again.
Cons: Nothing. I'd stay again.

Pros: Location. Parking close by and only 50c per hour. Very helpful staff, room clean, very good breakfast.
Cons: I found the mattress and pillow a little too firm for me, but that is very personal thing and should not put anyone off booking.

Pros: This B&B is a wonderful place, very close to Sassi di Matera. It’s so nice and the hosts are so hospitable and friendly. Sylvia has described to me in details everything about the sights and places to visit. The breakfast was also very good. Super place in terms of price/quality ratio. I would definitely stay there if I go back to Matera and recommend it for everyone!

Waited for me to open the gate and then showed me all the must sees and do's of Matera on a very handy map. Then drove me to a car park to show me where I could park my car. B&B is in the middle of Matera and about 5 min. Walking to the Sassi. Great breakfast, wonderfull stay!!

Pros: The owner, Simone, takes great care regarding details. The charming grotto room, with a private courtyard, was beautifully restored with a lovely bathroom and great walk-in shower. Niceties were provided, including slippers. The bed was very comfortable. There was also a terrace, where breakfast was served, that overlooked magnificent Matera.
Cons: Because our room was actually underground...we had to go down three steps to get to it...there was a damp smell that at times was unpleasant. This was the only downside of our room. Simone offered to change it for us, but we chose to remain in it because of its charm and the unique experience of staying there.

Pros: Fantastic staff went above and beyond to welcome us! Our flights were rescheduled when we arrived at the airport and instead of arriving mid afternoon our new eta at the hotel was 11.15. I phoned from airport and exceptionally helpful receptionist said not to worry and that someone would wait for us. Arrived to find young male receptionist it’s (sorry can’t remember his name) waiting for us. Although he was due to be on duty again next morning at 6am he took time to welcome us, carried our luggage, took us to a parking space and brought us back in his car. Nothing was too much trouble! 10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an outstanding property that has been beautifully restored as part of a brilliant project to bring out Matera’s history and make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The superior room cave we stayed in was huge and extremely clean, with everything we could possibly need. The soft lighting and candles were perfect, as was the bathtub with glass bottles for shampoo/body wash and the other bathroom amenities. I loved the furniture table set with a tablecloth, dishes, cups, and the bowl of fresh fruit with a nice bottle of wine. This all really added to the experience. We also enjoyed the sunset aperitivo with the breathtaking view. The breakfast was some of the best we’ve had. Most of all, the staff were the kindest and welcoming, they all felt like family. We will definitely be back and can’t wait to check out their other property!
Cons: Absolutely nothing

Pros: Good location, great attitude of the lady owner to the guests
Cons: Na
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Il Viaggiatori is well positioned within easy walking distance to the town centre and the Sassi. Arriving in Matera by car it was important that we had secure parking. Il Viaggiatori provided off-street parking that was secure. The area is safe and quiet . The room we had was huge as was the bathroom, both of which were impeccably clean. Comfortable beds, great air-conditioning and wi-fi. Breakfast was at a nearby coffee-shop which was ample. We were welcomed by Filomena who had ready for us maps of the area and great recommendations for local restaurants. A small common area provided all guests with coffee, tea, water, fresh fruit, cookies and cakes 24/7. No sooner had we checked in that Filomena had brought us a plate of fresh fruit. Despite only staying one night, Filomena farewelled us like family. This is a great find and the little extras make the stay even more memorable. Complimenti Filomena.
Cons: We could only stay one night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very very helpful and informative and the location to all the important sites was very close and in walking distance
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The cleanliness , confort and proximity to the center.
Cons: i was looking fir the place and called. Difficult communication as the person did not speak english and put an abrupt end to the communication. On the dite, the persons I met were very nice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They have fruit free and it was just in front our room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice room, very helpful staff, excellent breakfast at the pasticceria downstairs. Easy access by car and parking.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location - very close to the centre with all the restaurants and bars and the wonderful walk through the streets and caves of the "sassi". The "suite" was clean, spacious and very comfortable - with a large double bed and a single bed that we didn't need but used as an extra space for putting things. The shower room was also clean and spacious. Staff arrived to check us in a little earlier than the official time which was good as we had arrived early. She was very helpful. We were able to park on site which was hugely appreciated. They had a kettle in the room with a choice of tea and coffee (which many places in Italy did not have) and a fridge with water. Just outside was a small communal area offering a range of fresh fruit, cakes, biscuits and drinks.
Cons: Only breakfast was a little disappointing - a voucher for a cafe a couple of doors away which gave us an orange juice, small croissant and a cuppa. This is also common in Italy but we were leaving and had a long day ahead so it meant we had to go looking for a restaurant - which proved impossible as nobody was serving food at that time. Eventually found a place serving pizza slices and that had to do!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was very tidy and clean and seemed newly decorated. Very handy to the old city so easy to walk around and get back to your room for a rest from the heat. Parking available Great shower.
Cons: We got very hot in the night and thought the heat pump was not working properly but when we spoke to the staff member she said we had put the timer on ( so a trap for new players ) No milk for tea in the fridge. No coffee / tea cup , only plastic cups in the room. Nice complimentary fruit and biscuits outside the room at the coffee station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Close to everything.
Cons: There was mould on the corner of the wall, near ceiling. Did not like the lack of choices for breakfast. The positive of that is that they did have some fresh fruit and goodies near reception

Pros: If any hotel has been a home away from home, this one was it.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located in a quiet area with an unobstructed view across the valley. Interesting walks through the streets and paths. We had good fun losing our way in the misty fog trying to find our way but all the time feeling safe and sound. Hotel staff very friendly and a special thanks to Pasquale (hope that's spelt correctly) for the top class service of collecting us from our parked hire car which was outside the old cave town.
Cons: We had a brilliant time. Local Information Centre was asking for €40 each for a 2 hour tour. We managed Ok with online research and a lot of walking. Room 128 could have done with a cleaner toilet seat but the rest of the room was stunning and memorable.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: The couple who run the B & B clearly love hosting visitors with a great passion. The personal touches made a huge difference to our overall enjoyment and comfort. My travel companion enjoyed many a conversation with Cataldo as regards to historical facts relating to Matera and beyond! The apartment is spacious and well furnished with the right balance of privacy and access to the beautiful garden and breakfast area. Elena who served us breakfast is delightful too! After a long drive to Matera we were very tired and called the B & B to ask for help to find the house Cataldo and Lia came by car to show us the way! Thank you! In the evening we asked for a recommendation for a quick dinner and were advised to visit a local pizzeria Lo Zodiaco within easy walking distance. What a pleasure! The pizzeria was a complete joy, a perfect evening spent drinking local beer and eating fantastic pizza hosted by the young passionate owner Cosimo. Cosimo also recommended his brother's restaurant for the following evening, Dalla Padella alla brace in Matera centre that was also a wonderful experience. Both exceptionally best value for money! Thank you all! We shall be back!

Cons: The A/C really wasn't good enough in the single room. Stuffy as only one small window. The larger double room was "fun" with a steep ladder and trap door. Not good for elderly and might wear thin after 2 nights.

Beds are huge and very comfortable, 2 sinks to share and a lovely large shower. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent room in a lovely hotel, friendly staff and great location for Gallipoli.
Cons: The rooftop pool and large room!
7.1 Good
Cons: Upon departure, we had a car booked to take us to the airport at 4 am. That car never showed up. The night person (he didn’t give us his name) was absolutely terrible. He didn’t know how to make the payment, didn’t know how to calculate it or how to use a credit card. When we realised the car wasn’t coming, he was arguing with us and blaming the day staff that the didn’t leave a note telling him and he doesn’t have their numbers, they aren’t picking up, he doesn’t know who the driver is. When we asked him to call another taxi for us he did absolutely nothing and said no one is picking up. We had to call ourselves and find a taxi to pick us up and rush to the airport because we were 45 minutes late. This night person also refused to give us a contact of a manager because we were furious with him at that point, he even tried arguing with the taxi driver when he came (the one that we called) about how he tried to call him but his phone was off (which wasn’t true because we clearly managed to call). This person ruined our stay at the very last moment. He had no knowledge of his job or duties, blamed everyone else and took no responsibility. This was unacceptable.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Matera exceeded our expectations and the hotel was very good and well located. Lovely old property!
Cons: Had to drive through pedestrian precincts to get to the hotel and, due to one way street systems the GPS could not find a way in - so, we had to stop at a tourist information place and then wait for half an hour for someone to drive to us and guide us in - but, not a big deal
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient, the room we stayed architecturelly was extremely well designed and decorated reflecting ancient times.
Cons: Nothing that I can comment. The only difficulty is the parking availability being handled by a vale parking facility
7.5 Good
Pros: the atmosphere of the hotel and the location
Cons: breakfast and facilities

Pros: A good choice of fresh food and baked goods for breakfast. Spacious and comfortable room. A quiet pleasant location. Lovely building with well kept garden and swimming pool. Easy 15-20 minute walk to the centre
Cons: No complaints.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super. For us going up and down the hill to the Sassi was good exercise, for the less able-bodied though something to be aware of.
Cons: Internet access through the Wifi was a bit sketchy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice Boutique Hotel. We really liked the ambiance of our room which was designed with a high ceiling cave style. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. Location is a bit off the center, but you have free parking at the hotel and you will reach the center by foot in 10 minutes.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We were able to park for free, the swimming pool was available all day to use, which was perfect after a hot day.
Cons: Nothing!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was located just outside the historic centre of Matera (15 minutes walk). The parking and pool are definitely a plus. Breakfast was very good! The staff were really helpful and friendly.
Cons: Not enough sun beds
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Large and clean rooms, air conditioning in the flooring so no noise, variety of breakfast, pool area was lovely and quiet, short walk into town (uphill on the way back), staff were accommodating, parking on site.
Cons: No coffee/tea facilities in the room, no English channels on the tv (one BBC news channel would suffice)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly staff who were very helpful. Close enough to the old town and free parking. Very nice breakfast. Lovely room with a fantastic domed ceiling
Cons: Although close to town the walk up is steep but not for long. The pool looked as if it needed a clean as there were leaves in it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Close to tourist sites and a refreshing pool when you get back.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location goof breakfast, lovely room
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great & modern room. Very clean. Super nice staff. Good and varied breakfast. Nice pool.
Cons: A bit disappointed with the location. It is close to the centre, but the hotel is at the top of a hill. It is fine going to the centre, but the way back up to the hotel is too hard to walk up. Unless you like walking uphill, not the best choice.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous room in amazing location! Our room had a four poster bed and a balcony overlooking the square.
Cons: There could have been more choice for breakfast.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the property modern and clean.
Cons: The only issue was that is the description it stated that the suite 210 was 100 meters away from reception. It DID NOT mention that those 100 meters were down a very steep walkway of some 80 odd steps or more. my wife has a back issue and found this very difficult to traverse on a daily basis. If we had known this we would not have booked this suite. would not recommend suites 201-210 to anyone with walking difficulties.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Tricky to access, very dry in rooms at night, staff speak no English...as in zero
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very Central to everything including reasonably priced parking, spacious and well appointed room 105 facing the Piazza Francesco but yet quiet. Friendly welcoming staff
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very helpful and the location was amazing. Our room was large, airy and bright with a lovely comfy bed. The breakfast was good and the host was very accommodating.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic boutique hotel - try to get room 103 (very large, high ceilings and comfortable). The location, in the middle of the old town, was excellent and thank goodness they helped us park the car and get back to the hotel. The breakfast was delicious and there was tea and a tea pot in the room. We all loved the hotel. It was easy to hire a local guide right as we arrived at the hotel for the next day. Matera is a fascinating town.
Cons: None of the staff spoke English so could not help us with questions or suggestions. The hotel is a attached to the right of the church in the photo below. It doesn’t look like much, but it was charming and very well done
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, pastries fresh out of oven. Staff terrific. Close to everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location
Cons: Waste bins being emptied bout 4am outside

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great . clean . spacious room and helpful staff
Cons: I had a little difficulty in communicating in english but the people were very helpful and kind
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location with parking available. Comfortable surroundings. Exactly as expected. No surprises.
Cons: There were no complaints. Everyone was pleased with their accommodations.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Staff was very friendly. Good location to explore everything on foot.
Cons: The superior double room is on the ground floor, without a window, so no natural light and no air. The furniture is quite depressing. It feels like being in a cellar. TV was very small so you can hardly watch it from the bed (which is the only point of a TV in a hotel room). The room is quite big but the atmosphere is so unpleasant I just wanted to go to sleep immediately and not spend one extra minute in there. So all the extra space does not really help. I think calling this "superior" is very misleading, even if there are a few additional square meters and a massage bathtub.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice apartments, good location, harmonic interior design.
Cons: The reception is not always ready, we had to wait a half an hour to check in. The place has a bit abandoned feeling.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the old Town, and easy walking distance to sights and restaurants

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hard to think of a better located hotel - so close to the main square but nevertheless peaceful - from which to explore the unique and fascinating city of Matera with its caves, churches and art. We were most grateful for excellent advice on where to eat.
Cons: Parking a problem, but at least there is a garage for those lucky to get there in time.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It is quiet, near the center and it has parking.
Cons: No care for cereal eaters: very little variety and nothing is at hand, neither the cold milk nor spoons, and the bowls were minuscule. All of this is very easy to fix.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. Very friendly staff. Super delicious breakfast!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Central location with underground parking plus easy access the Sassi(caves)! Excellent buffet breakfast, amazing choices!

7.1 Good
Pros: Excellent Location
Cons: Bathroom very small
6.7 Good
Pros: Wonderful location, in the old city area, close to main attractions.
Cons: The smell in the room was not nice. It looked like something coming from the bathroom pipes. The reception personel was not able to communicate as nobody can speak English. The price around 100 Euro for night seems to be overstated.
7.9 Good
Pros: We had a top floor apartment which had a washing machine which was great as we were on a road trip with our sons. Also we had a private terrace which had the most incredible view of the Sassi and the ravine - this wasn't something we were expecting and was a fantastic surprise when we arrived. Also the hotel is in a really good location. Right in the centre of the old and new - and an excellent gelateria right opposite :-)
7.5 Good
Pros: The central location.
Cons: I think that the breakfast could be improved. The choice of breads was not presented well (mostly in plastic packaging and not always very fresh). A greater choice of fresh fruit would also improve the breakfast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We were offered a large room with view on the Sassi. The hotel probably had its best times in the past. Location however was central and good.
Cons: Breakfast mostly packed, not fresh. Tables not always cleaned from previous guests.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, helpful staff
Cons: Electric jug in room/coffee
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the centre of Matera. A friendly bar next door was convenient. The historic old town is a few minutes walk away. Lots of restaurants nearby. Less than 10 minutes walk from the central bus station.
6.3 Good
Pros: the position
Cons: horrible mix of styles and forniture, bad lighting
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, spacious room, with a very comfortable bed and nicely decorated. The location is great because it is in the centre and if you have heavy bags you don't have to worry about carrying up stairs. Great restaurants nearby as well. Although it is in the centre, it is still very quiet within the rooms. I had a balcony which had screens, shutters, glass doors and internal wooden doors which really blocked out any noise. I slept really well which was great as I was in Matera for work.
Cons: The breakfast was very poor. Not much choice and what was there was not healthy or fresh. The bread was packaged supermarket bread, the cheese was highly processed - tasted more like rubber than cheese. No selection of good tea, no eggs and the fruit was almost mouldy is was so old - no excuse as the produce in the region is so delicious and cheap. There weren't many guests as it was low season so perhaps they were putting out the bare essentials for the low season? There at least was a good quality yoghurt and muesli which I ate.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is really centrally located on the edge of the old town - the rooms are neat and clean. I had a room with three beds that was simply furnished. My sister had a suite for two people that was much bigger that had antique style furniture. Breakfast was very good. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and very helpful. As stated, the hotel is in a great location with all main sites in Matera in ready walking distance. I thought it was good value for money.
Cons: The hotel is in a pedestrian only area which means if you have a car you'll have to find parking nearby and walk with your bags to the hotel. It's not such a problem but it might inconvenience some people...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly located, spacious, atmospheric reception & breakfast room, excellent transfer arranged. Evening reception staff welcoming. Breakfast lady & room carer so nice. Level of modernisation perfect - I didn't want a place too modernised or in the mode of an international hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Caveoso. The staff were really accommodating and gave a great rundown of the places to see and visit. The bed was the extremely comfortable and the room clean and fascinating. Yes, the room felt a bit damp as mentioned by other reviews, but you're sleeping in a cave so that isn't unreasonable. It didn't bother us at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fantastic. Best bed I’ve slept in throughout Italy
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The bed was soooooo comfy and the staff very polite
7.1 Good
Pros: Fantastic location in the old town and cave style accommodation
Cons: The bed was in comfortable and swelled... breakfast is a typical Italian pastry could do with a bit more cooked food
7.5 Good
Pros: not that high up from the main centre
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good location. The room was very interesting and cave- like as we hoped. It was quiet too.
Cons: The first man who checked us in was lovely and welcoming. We never saw him again and were served at breakfast and checked out by an older man who didn't smile, was not impressed we knew no Italian and was generally not helpful at all. We wouldn't go back there and paid a lot of money for it. On booking.com it was the only hotel who demanded payment in full at the time of booking and when our friends couldn't make it there was no refund possible and yet when i enquired the guy at reception said they were full. Then he changed his mind and said they had one room left. Hhmmm.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing and the room was exactly as pictured. The staff we nice and helpful.
Cons: Getting our suitcase down there was abit challenging but we knew that before we went and after exploring while we were there we worked out a quicker and easier way to get it back up.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location and Matera itself is amazing. The two young receptionists were very helpful.
Cons: The hotel did not look like it was a striking historical building, Our room was a modern extension which was not set in a grotto and there was no balcony, just a walkway for people to gain access to their rooms. For us, it was very disappointing. The room was not elegant and the bathroom lock did not work and there was mould around the bath. The breakfast was alright but nothing special at all, although at least that was served in a grotto. While we were there, they were filming the new James Bond film so there were areas, Cathedrals, Churches, squares etc.. which we were not allowed in, and they only told us the night before we arrived which was very poor.

Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful architectural design of room emulating a cave. Location perfect.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Located in the heart of the sassi district. Would recommend parking your car at Damasco parking garage and getting a ride to the hotel, as it would be difficult to walk down with bags and driving in the sassi district looked terrifying!
Cons: Room was a little small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Reception was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. All her recommendations were spot on. The breakfast was one of the best we had had in Italy. The little touches like writing your name on the hotel door was nice and the staff all treated you like they wanted you to enjoy your time here.

7.9 Good
Pros: Location, property and reception staff were perfect. Smartest cave we’ve ever stayed in. Food area and breakfast was amazing.
Cons: They had a lovely bar area that was hardly ever open. Drinks served until 6.30pm unless you were dinning, strange a five star resort with no usable bar? Bar had great views over Matera valley but we couldn’t use it. Also a very expensive stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Best location. Decorations of the room are very beautiful.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was absolutely beautiful, very comfortable and with a great location.
Cons: The lighting was very dim
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good location in the historic part of Matera, with a spacious & interesting room largely within an old cave. Excellent dinner & friendly service on the terrace of the hotel’s restaurant & pleasant breakfast buffet inside the restaurant the next morning.
Cons: Air conditioning thermostat in our room either ineffective or faulty (insufficient cooling for comfortable sleeping, even at lowest temperature setting & highest fan speed), room wi fi not working (wi fi worked ok in the hotel restaurant) + no bar in the hotel for cold drinks after late afternoon arrival. Reception staff not overly concerned or helpful when these issues reported - e.g. directed us to public bar in nearby square.
7.5 Good
Pros: The view was superb, the food in restaurant was outstanding, the size of room was great, the cleanliness could not be faulted. the staff were extremely helpful. The bed and bedding were very comfortable.
Cons: The air-conditioning system... it cannot be controlled from your room, it is extremely noisy with one unit being positioned right next to bed. In our 4 day stay we had to ask for the unit next to bed to be turned off, and then had to ask reception another couple of times to adjust settings but it still switched on and off continuously and noisily throughout the night making sleeping very difficult. The tap for sink...a design statement that unfortunately did not work, even after calling for room service to look at it we found it very difficult to operate and continuously cleaned our teeth in hot water or got soaked trying to adjust flow of water. Also felt that for size of bathroom a smaller bath would have been better and then a shower could have been put in as well. The most uncomfortable toilet seat ever...again style over comfort.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Only the location
Cons: The air conditioning was ineffective, the terrace area closed at 6.30pm, you could not have breakfast on the terrace, the staff were not helpful. We are reasonable guests, we travel extensively but we cannot understand how this hotel warrants 5 stars. We checked out one day early despite the cost as it was very poor! We do not recommend
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hotel is amazing - right in the heart of Matera, with stunning views of the town and the valley. It is stylish, welcoming, beautifully decorated and completely unique.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The position was amazing and the suite quite unique as we were in a cave suite. Breakfast really good in a wonderful cave restaurant.
Cons: I think that the lighting in our room could be improved
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant view.
Cons: Staff - unprofessional. No parking infront of location, only valet parking for € 25 per day plus each time you want to use your car, it’s another € 5 on the top.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What an extraordinary place - right in the heart of the Sassi. The views from the hotel were amazing - especially when three James Bond cars drove by, part of the new Bond film. The staff were excellent- Peter was great and should be running the place! All in all, a wonderful place to stay in one of them most incredible places in the world!
Cons: Nothing!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7.3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous.
Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is great. The room was big and according to the town. Breakfast was delicious, with a lot of selections for everyone. Internet worked perfectly.
Cons: For the price I was expecting a bathtube, not just a shower.
7.7 Good
Pros: all, excellent design, unique location and environment
Cons: restaurant is not cheap
7.6 Good
Pros: Interesting, excellent standard of accommodation, great setting and area.
Cons: 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.
2.4 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was great
Cons: Poor service, damp hotel rooms, very rocky walkway slipery walkways slipery showers never again
6.4 Good
Pros: helpfull staff
Cons: Not 4 star standart though have to admitt that having hotel rooms in very old dwellings/caves have limits
7.6 Good
Pros: Location, uniqueness of design, high level of service
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation. Thermae Romano...complete with sauna, hydro massage etc.
Cons: Advertised as a junior suite with jacuzzi...didn’t have a jacuzzi.Only one of the junior suites did and this was on a ‘ first guests to arrive get it’ basis!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Difficult to have a bad location in Matera! What a special place. The view from room 84 was spectacular. We did not mind the fact that it was not located in the main building at all. Staff was very helpful with our one large suitcase...lots of stairs! The room and the view exceeded expectations! Breakfast could have been a bit more generous in the food choices available given the pricing.
Cons: After booking the room through booking.com I have never had a more difficult time with a hotel. They kept threatening to cancel the reservation even after booking.com called them twice to point out the issue was with their system! It should be pointed out that booking.com was initially slow to provide the required customer service to solve the issue, but came through in the end. Glad we made it!
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Staff at reception was very friendly, assisted with all my requests, excellent hospitality skills

Cons: Thermal spa are to be paid seperately.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!!!
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Original room, inside a sassi. Very quiet. We had one of the rooms that were separate from the front desk, but they drove us up there easily. The breakfast is complete and the staff is very polite.
Cons: As the room is in a sassi, it’s very humid and warm. There is an AC and a dehumidifier, but very noisy.
5.8 Okay
Pros: - Location is outrageously perfect: in the very heart of Matera. - Our room was nice: nice decor, nice bed, big in size, private entrance, private terrace with a view. The hotel is in fact a combination of real authentic caves - each room being a private cave. Perfect privacy, good renovation (small shower though). - Breakfast was just AMAZING. Italian perfection.
Cons: - The billing. For our check-in, we had one member of the staff that clearly was under-trained. We told him we payed the hotel in advance by wire transfer three times (we were asked by email to do so). Checking out the next day, the staff recharged our credit card. The morning team hasn’t been told about the wire transfer (communication issue). We still didn't receive the money 10 days later. So unprofessional. - The parking. Things were initially quite smooth : we were given an address for a parking near the hotel. We went there and park. The parking overcharged us with 5€ (25€ instead of 20€ for the night) which is obviously not professional. The real problem was the access to the hotel with our 30 kg luggages: 10 minutes walk in slippery stairs, a total nightmare. And the problem here aren’t the stairs, it’s that nobody actually told us about them so we didn’t organize accordingly (backpacks for example). Second parking problem, when we check out staff actually told us our car was moved and not in the parking anymore. Nobody actually asked us about moving the car or anything. It was a total surprise. We had to take a transfer from the hotel to the new parking location. Transfer was a group thing and absolutely uncomfortable so definitely not a nice additional touch to the whole parking experience. - The spa experience. High expectations there since it wasn’t included in the room price (20€ per person). Well the cave pool did deliver: very big, very nicely done. The rest of it wasn’t that nice. The whole experience is about traditional roman therme (different temperatures rooms and pools). It’s actually not really that because in traditional therme you would have several pools at different temperatures. There was only one pool and then rooms where the air was at different temperatures. We didn’t go for the hammam since the smell was awful (hot mold...). Sauna was okay but small and with nothing special.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, beautiful hotel, Matera is a miracle!!
Cons: Air con in the room a bit noisy.
