Pros: The room was reasonably priced after the off-season discount of 30%. The property is well-designed, and the thermal pools are nice. Tour desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The restaurants are over-priced. WiFi only in the common areas. Can be noisy if somebody is staying in the adjoining room.

Pros: The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and extremely polite and helpful in all the areas in which we interacted. The grounds were various pools and the restaurants were all just wonderful. Thank you very much for a delightful stay. I would definitely come back and recommend this lovely resort to friends and family!
Cons: I loved all of it!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is so beautiful, surrounded by nature and the Arenal volcano is right in front of you. The service was great, everyone was so nice and warm. The place is super clean. The hot pools are so great that we couldn't get out of them. The bars in the water are awesome! The only thing that was missing for me was more vegan options in breakfast and some nondairy milk for all of us, but as soon as I asked, they went out and bought me some at the shop. They also added to our breakfast every morning veggies and avocado per our request. Also, my daughter had her 12th birthday while we were there so I asked for a small cake to surprise her in the room. When we came back to the room after traveling all day, we saw that they have decorated the room so nice for her birthday! she was so happy and surprised. After a few minutes. Someone came with a small Bday cake and a candle- this was so nice! I defiantly recommend this hotel! We have such amazing memories from our stay. Thank you, guys!

Pros: Resort overall was nicely, staff helpful and courteous at front and helping to rooms. Room service was fast
Cons: Pools a little too hot, kids didn't like bartenders serves. I also thought it was a little slow.

Pros: Little gardens in the bathrooms and hot springs around the pool.
Cons: Some cow poops in front of our rooms when we just came there.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hot springs facilities are excellent, lovely rooms and hotel layout
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They made every effort to make us feel comfortable and even upgraded our room/bungalow. The thermal waters felt great and our bartender made every effort to please us. Breakfast was simple, but appetizing. I wished we had stayed here more time. Thank you!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was peaceful and beautifully kept. Room was nice and comfortable.the staff was professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was good. We loved the fresh fruit and the huevos rancheros- other items also good but would have liked just a bit more variety - some sort of meat side option would be good.
Cons: Having to give coupons to retrieve pool towels wasn’t always convenient- we went to the pool one night after the bar was closed and therefore didn’t have towels. I appreciate the desire to limit excessive towel use but would have been better to just provide pool towels in the room. More shelf or drawer space would be good in the room to unpack.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basically Everything
Cons: There was no gym facility!!! Hopefully on my return there will be one
5.4 Okay
Pros: Hot springs.
Cons: The hot water faucet did not work well, there was a string to hang clothing in the shower which was moldy, the jacuzzi tub room smelled of mildew and glue (due to being repaired that morning).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was amazing. The free breakfast was very nice with both typical American and Tico fare. They gave us a free facial for staying 2 nights. I also got a great massage. The Spa is beautiful and tranquil. The hot springs were fantastic and unbelievably uncrowded. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent, the facilities are perfect, and the staff was exceptional. The view of Arenal was inspiring, and the hot springs were wonderful. If I can afford it, I will definitely be back.
Cons: It was expensive. Only because of it being our anniversary did we spend so much. Also the hot springs were good enough that we could have saved our money and not done Eco Termales. There's really nothing not to like.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service, the vegetation, the animals, breakfast, thermal waters...everything actually
Cons: Maybe a bit pricey but I guess that is the average at this time a season
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Whole family loved staying here. Nice houses, lovely staff. Relaxing at the warm thermal pools was wonderful. Kids really enjoied the farm and the animals and the really nice staff there who let them try to milk cows, feed the hens etc
10.0 Excellent
Pros: his property consists of 24 individual cabanas located in beautiful gardens. Our cabana was very spacious with high sloped ceiling adding to the sense of space. It had the most superbly comfortable bed and small fridge, coffee maker, two sitting chairs and lots of hanging and shelf space for your clothes. The shower was large (but not very strong...not sure if the problem was the water pressure or shower head). There were lots of lights and electric plugs and the unit was completed by a terrace with table and chairs. There was a swimming pool and a separate area containing the hot pools (including a jacuzzi and cold pool). The pools are of varying sizes and temperature and set in more beautiful gardens. There are various outdoor areas to sit in and also a bar serving drinks and food. There is a further separate Spa area for a variety of spa treatments....again set in beautiful gardens. Finally there is a small farmyard with miniature horses, donkeys, cows, chickens etc and an wonderful organic vegetable garden...both supplying produce to the restaurant kitchen. Breakfast consisted of fruit, juices, coffee, yoghurt, cereal in addition to a small menu of cooked options. The big bonus was watching a huge variety of birds at breakfast....with fruit placed on a couple of trees by the restaurant. Also lots of other birds etc throughout the garden....very special. We took an Uber to several nearby restaurants (Red Frog was great...thanks Roy) and La Fortuna as it was quite a dark road to walk at night. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful....thanks Steven in the restaurant for bird info and Maria (Reception). We stayed six nights here in a romantic villa...a special place. We thought it was quite expensive for us (though anything good in Arenal is expensive....but it was worth it. Highly recommended!!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was Great!
7.9 Good
Pros: Lots of fauna and flora to look at and beautiful everywhere you looked. Nice room and comfy bed. Patio was nice to sit outside. Pool was enjoyable to relax at and have a cocktail. Staff was excellent! Good breakfasts. Close to Volcano so location was good.
Cons: This property was definitely overpriced by $200 usd/day for the room. Room was nice but also felt dark and closed in. Restaurant dinner menus and wine bar seemed not very exciting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were all amazing...friendly and helpful. The warmth seemed genuine. The restaurants were all first class. Wine bar served great tapas as well as wines. The Asian restaurant served the best sushi we have eaten anywhere, including Japan! The Terrazza was great for breakfasts and lunches, Costa Rican dishes awesome. The flora and layout of the resort is spectacular. Our room was immaculate. Comfortable and clean. Cafecito coffee lounge served the best coffees we have encountered.
Cons: It took a day or so to understand the layout of the hotel grounds fully, perhaps the map could be a little clearer. We stayed 3 nights and never saw the volcano as under clouds continuously......but that is not the hotel’s fault, obviously.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Lovely room, friendly and super accommodating staff, great food, beautiful grounds.
Cons: Having to leave
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff. Great breakfast buffet. Very romantic atmosphere and private rooms with outdoor showers and private outdoor jacuzzis. Unique and special place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the minute we arrived to a super warm welcome until we left this was a spectacular experience. Everything is done to make the guest feel completely at ease and well taken care of. We had a beautiful casita with an amazing jungle view. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and would always go the extra mile to help out in anyway they could. The food at La Terrazza restaurant where we ate most days was excellent, especially the breakfast buffet. We would love to return there.
Cons: No negatives at all.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms, facilities
Cons: Price of breakfast
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Had a wonderful stay. Great location to explore the rain forest of Costa Rica. Had a wonderful room with beautiful views. Fabulous bathroom with huge Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Great to come back to the resort after hiking, zip-lining and ATV-ing and relax at the hot springs. Will definitely return.
Cons: Breakfast was very expensive. Buffet was $25++. The bill was $125.00 for our family of 4. We shopped in town and had breakfast in the room. Was still enjoyable. There was a fridge, coffee. Would be nice to have options for breakfast.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous hot Springs excellent service and great tours
Cons: Dining options limited no lunch at main restaurant
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The hot springs make it worth the price. We stayed for one night, but enjoyed two days on the hot springs and pools. We absolutely loved it and recommend it.
Cons: Do not expect great food. Both breakfast and dinner were highly overpriced for the quality. Dinner was so disappointing, we spent about $100 for two entrees, one appetizer and two beers, but the ribeye was could barely edible, and the special nothing to brag about. They also offer a buffet by the pool for $39/person, which we didn't try. Breakfast for $25/person was also a rip off considering I only enjoyed the fruits and yogurt. The rest of the buffet was not great, so I barely touched it. They need to invest in better food in my opinion...
9.6 Excellent
Pros: What is not to like about Tabacon resort. It is nice, people are so friendly that it hurts, it is a true 5 star hotel and you can not say anything. We were there 2 nightys, upgraded to suite for 40 USD per day extra (I wouldnt do that again). You dont really need bathtub in bathroom and terace was... well.... you cant smoke there so, again, not much use. Breakfast was as it should be, rich and tasty, tho sparkling water is extra and you should pay for it, which is, when u have only 3 tipes of drinks... just sad. In this rate the sparkling water or some other drinks would be great. In lot of 5 star hotels you even get unlimited sparkling wine... And, its not really cheap, I might add. And the pools are... oh my god, heaven on earth just got new name! It is a must do when in costa rica.
Cons: We had a set down in restaurant, more of a “all you can eat type”. Not worth 40 USD per person. It was good. Thats it. It should have been superb. The hotel and all resort set standards so high... so this restaurant is not reaching tabacon standards! (Thats why is 9,6 and not 10). But, it you dont have your own car and you dont wanna spend fortune in other restaurant, I guess this is only option... Sadly
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Thermal facilities
Cons: Staff not extremely courteous at bars and restaurants
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Best service and facilities! Amazing!
Cons: The breakfast is expensive
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, excellent food, facilities were clean and comfortable, nature was beautiful
Cons: Properly was close to public street which is busy too. Could hear traffic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an amazing hotel, an incredible experience, a superb resort. No superlative is exaggeration. Every aspect of the resort is a state of the art - the personnel, the service, the maintenance, the cleanliness, the quality of each and every detail, the rooms, the surrounding, the amenities, the pools, the springs, etc. etc. etc... Heaven on earth
Cons: This resort stands to the highest level of perfection. Complete satisfaction!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Price is great because if you consider entry fees to Tabacon thermal spa (50$). Moreover, breakfast is amazing. You get many local stuff. WiFi is amazing, I was able to work on this WiFi easily. Location is great, all attractions are close by.
Cons: Even better if Room service would be enhanced a bit. It’s good but not great. But this is super minor point.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The surroundings were beautiful with the volcano as the backdrop. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service to spa and springs was very timely.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ultra luxury accommodations if u choose the Rainforest room. What makes this place extra special is the Shangri-La, the exclusive hotel guests only portion of the thermal spa. Can't wait to go there again!

9.7 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and luxury rooms, great volcano views.
Cons: Food at rhe bar a little pricey
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very customer-centric, convenient to fun activities, interesting tours, and good restaurants
Cons: Breakfast and coffee not available until 6:30. Activities have early start times so breakfast at least by 6 would be better
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we walked in, we were impressed with the professionalism of the staff and the pride they took in their work. Every person we interacted with seemed personally invested in making our stay great - and it was! All of the spa facilities and hot springs were immaculately clean and well-maintained (and I tried alllll of them!). The food was excellent too, but it's hard to be unhappy about anything when you can have a nightcap and ceviche at a swim-up bar in December! We also took advantage of their on-site tour coordinator and had some of the best experiences of our whole trip while staying here.
Cons: I always try to give some constructive feedback, but honestly everything about this place was fantastic.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff. Good food. Nice spa and thermal waters. Nothing to complain about. Significantly above the kind of phony nice service in Costa Rica.
Cons: Needs a larger fitness room. No shop for drinks, candy, etc.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good sized room with small balcony Lovely view of volcano Good thermal pools and excellent pool bar service Excellent omelette chef
Cons: Too far from other restaurants but Uber works Food rather bland Irratic breakfast service Disappointing style by one receptionist
7.0 Good
Pros: Great room, wonderful facilities. The spa is a magical, private experience. Had a Swedish massage by an excellent masseuse. Enjoyed the pool, pool bar, breakfast and hot tubs. Management adjusted bill to make up for shortcomings during stay.
Cons: There was a plumbing issue where during a shower, the water would become scalding hot. This happened multiple times, and is unacceptable and DANGEROUS. Another guest told me at breakfast that she had to take a cold shower. Many places we stayed at in CR had plumbing issues, but a 5-star resort should not. The restaurant menu had items labeled vegan/vegetarian that were clearly not (chicken is not vegan, nor is butter). The whole menu presentation should be redone and please consider a separate vegan menu. Please label items at breakfast buffer as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc. Had very strange, poor waiter service at dinner.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and nice thermal pools with good food
Cons: Was a taxi journey into town, food options could have been better
5.4 Okay
Pros: Well located. Nice staff.
Cons: The room is cleaning after 3 pm. TV is very small. Water temperature cannot be regulated.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is heaven on Earth. Impecable.
Cons: I should have stayed for one more week!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful. The spa was also great.
Cons: The food was really expensive and bland. Needs significant improvement
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was amazing - wonderful views, fab room, food was good and facilities were excellent.
Cons: Liked it all
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The views of the volcano are incredible! The property has amazing vistas and beautiful pools everywhere. It was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in terms of location, views, and staff. The rooms were expansive and incredibly clean, the views from the hotel room were unreal, and you could hear howler monkeys every night! The drinks were so yummy and the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed our stay overall!
Cons: For the price, the food was really hit or miss and when it missed it was really bad. Granted, I ordered a pizza, but when you have 6 pizzas on the menu you would think they would be decent. It wasn't even cooked and was frankly inedible. The other food was also mediocre given the price. I wish I had picked up some food in town, but we were a bit stuck at the resort. The excursions were far more expensive if you booked directly with the hotel, and incurred an additional fee not listed in the advertised price, but staff told you about it when you went to book (but at that point you have basically committed). I would recommend booking directly with the tours outside of the resort because it was just too expensive otherwise. The night tour at Club Rio was overcrowded and was not pleasant at all. The guide was lovely and knowledgable, but having around 17 people with many children on a night tour was chaotic and not at all tranquil. Additionally, the tubing excursion at Club Rio was around $50 USD for a 15-minute ride down the river. It was not worth the money. I had a much more pleasant time on excursions outside of the resort. I also wish they would get rid of the straws in every drink and should not let guests leave AC on all day (other hotels had a key card you needed to put in a slot to be able to turn lights and AC on). I thought it was an eco-friendly resort, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay in The Springs Resort. Our room was upgraded on arrival which was a nice surprise, we got an amazing two-levels room overlooking the volcano. The grounds of the hotel are kept very well, the common areas are very clean and well maintained. We did not have any issues with mosquito bites while on the hotel grounds. We loved having breakfast outdoor looking at the Arenal volcano. Staff were consistently welcoming and polite and happy to help with any requests. We enjoyed a few great activities organised by the hotel, we recommend the horse riding tour as well as the guided river tour on a raft. Plenty of outdoor activities meant plenty of dirty clothes so we were very pleased with the guests laundry room. The concierge desk offered great help and advice and on the one occasion we were not pleased with the night jungle tour which had been oversubscribed they refunded the charge of their own initiative.
Cons: Food offering throughout the restaurants was not adequate, but this did not spoil our stay. It would have been easy to get to the nearby town La Fortuna and try some local restaurants but we loved the hotel so much we did not venture out for dinner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was incredible. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff seemed genuinely nice. They were welcoming and friendly, more than any place we've stayed before. That in and of itself was value in our trip. Very relaxing and beautiful. I would say the photos do not do justice to this place, it was much better than I thought it would be.
Cons: The zoo wasn't that incredible.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakbast. Room with great view to the Arenal Vulcan, clean and comfortable. Staff is great. Pools are great.
Cons: The gym is very well equiped, HOWEVER surprisingly the gym's floor is covered by carpet. therefore it has a mold smell. Please remove it! The breakfast buffet is expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay beautiful room and great view. Staff were very friendly. 20 minutes into town.
Cons: Drinks were over priced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Series of thermal pools, lush greeneries, nature trail, local tours offered, food at the restaurant.
Cons: No complimentary shuttle to town.
7.0 Good
Pros: The facilities are great.
Cons: Our experience at the check in was not good. The staff didn't treat us with courtesy and tried to get rid of us as soon as possible. This comment applies just to the staff that checked us in. All the others were really nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hidden gem. Beautiful rooms with amazing views.

Pros: Exceeded all expectations

A shuttle from the airport to the hotel is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
7.9 Good
Pros: It’s family run and it gives it a more personal feel. The accommodation is set in beautiful gardens just outside of the main town of La Fortuna. We walked it and it was a easy walk taking about 20 mins. Our room #1 was a standard room and very basic but clean. The food in the restaurant is of excellent standard and we would recommend trying it. The bar was a fun place to hang out with a giant Jenga and fantastically run by Roy, the happy hour and welcome drink brings everyone together. We would stay here again but in an upgraded room.
Cons: Our room #1 was very basic even for a standard room. The beds were so creaky they woke you up in the night, although the mattresses were comfortable - we didn’t get a whole nights sleep because of them. The room was very dark mainly because of the large foliage outside our veranda, others rooms appeared to not have so much. The bathroom was really dated but the shower was nice and hot. It would have been nice to have coffee making facility in the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location for La Fortuna town, waterfall, chocolate tour, hanging bridges, volcano and lake. Food was very good and the outdoor bar is a nice spot to have a pre dinner drink. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great rooms to sit and watch hummingbirds in action. Also saw lots of other beautiful birds in the hotel grounds.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and wildlife!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The lodges are very spacious and have an amazing view on the rain forest - staff was helpful, laundry is very fast and bar is fantastic for a drink
Cons: Without a car you need to take a taxi as it is more than 35min of walking without a real pedestrian walkway. During high season it was super hard to get a taxi - one time no one appeared even after more than half an hour!!! Keep that in mind
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is a must! There are so many choices of stay in La Fortuna, but this place really takes the time to make your stay worth it! Kind and caring staff that work great with vacationers. Helpful and they really tend to anything you need. Front office people were amazing! 5 stars!
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The cabin was awesome.
Cons: More air conditioning needed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I would definitely stay here again! Minutes from town and minutes from la Fortuna waterfall. The staff was amazing and so helpful! Needless to say we rented the villa and it was amazing!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very private and comfortable. Location is awesome! Close to waterfall, la Fortuna, and rainforest Chocolate Tour is right down the street!
Cons: You can definitely hear all the animals at night and what started off to be really awesome got a little annoying. It’s nature you can’t complain, maybe just a little.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly people, awesome place. especial Thanks to Fabian and Diego

10.0 Excellent
Cons: Very nice clean family run hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A little heaven of peace, wonderful nature, with plenty of birds singing, and where you feel cosy and warmly welcomed. We had a great stay, saw even more birds than in the Arenal park, got fresh eggs daily for breakfast and there is a nice little swimming pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful, we had a problem that led to delayed arrival in Costa Rica and they were very understanding and flexible. They also booked for us for the hot springs that are just nearby and with a discount. The Arenal volcano is quickly accessible. And as we were visiting for our honeymoon, they made a very nice decoration with fresh flowers! We had a great stay and highly recommend it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The garden is huge and lush, which made up for the location close to a busy road. The jacuzzi was a nice plus, as was the guest kitchen. Lovely friendly staff helped smooth out trip wrinkles. We also liked the covered room terrace, which meant we could sit outside and enjoy the scenery despite the non-stop rain.
Cons: Just so others know, this hotel no longer offers breakfast (as stated on various travel websites). You will need to go to a local restaurant or make your own in the guest kitchen. There is a supermarket within walking distance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful gardens. Super clean. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: We were a family requiring 2 rooms. They are large and spacious and the comfortable chairs on the outside terrace were great! We were overjoyed to see a Toucan perch on our car rack! The gardens are teeming with beautiful birds and orchids...we cooked our own breakfast in the well equipped kitchen with eggs from the chickens who live on site. This is a wonderful little Gem
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds and friendly staff
Cons: Kitchen well equipped but would have been helpful to have a few more staples available..milk butter
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was extremely nice and helpful! Gardens were amazing. Free parking. Kitchen, coffee, and fresh eggs available!

Cons: Cleaner thermal baths
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I cannot say enough about our stay at the Volcano Lodge and Springs. We booked it because the rainy season rates were hard to pass up and because 95% of previous guests rated it Excellent. The room rates were so low that I wondered if the ratings could be true...but I have never had more good things to share about a hotel experience! We stayed in a superior room with an amazing view of Arenal from our porch. The property is designed so that the view from your patio makes you feel like you are at a private villa. All we saw before us was Arenal and lush vegetation. There were people next to us but we never saw or heard them. You couldn't even see where the cars were parked. It was almost total solitude. The room was attractive and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was always warm. Our room was only a short walk from the main pool and mineral springs which was a pleasant surprise. Others will have to walk further but the grounds are so nice that the walk is like a stroll in a garden. I read some reviews that the breakfast was adequate but nothing special. I have no idea what they were talking about! To me it was a wonderful daily brunch. We stayed 4 nights and looked forward to each morning. Most food items stayed the same but how can you complain about having fresh bananas, pineapple, papaya, and watermelon, three different breads for toasting, pancakes, scrambled eggs, rice and beans, sweet plantains, lunch meat and cheese, a waffle station and made to order egg station with 6 toppings for omelets, OJ and Mango / Banana juice, and coffee to pick from? There were also two breakfast breads each day that varied and one or two different Costa Rican hot items each day that included small sausages, chicken or sausages in a creamy tomato sauce, and several types of what they called "hash"…potato based one time and green bean based another. To top it off, the restaurant has a great view of Arenal and the pool / mineral springs area and an attentive and cheerful staff. They even attached their old bananas to a nearby tree each morning to attract birds! The pool was clean and the mineral springs area very relaxing. They just added a second hot springs and bar. The grounds are filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees with a running / walking nature trail that they are just getting going. It was a bit confusing but we loved it…especially watching the intricate world of leaf cutting ants! Bottom line...you will love this place!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel overall is really nice The thermal are very nice and convenient Breakfast was good Restaurant food served very good Overall very good experience
Cons: Nothing in particular
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great pool, amazing staff, very clean. Good location.
Cons: Wifi was weak if some places, but not a big deal!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We spent five days here for a relaxing break in our travels around Costa Rica. Every detail was attended to a this hotel... the hot springs are marvelous. The service was fantastic, every inch of the resort is groomed. The pools are also very clean and large enough for swimming short laps. We ate out in La Fortuna a few times but found that the food at the hotel was better and reasonably priced. No real reason to eat out... breakfast buffet is extensive and delicious! For the reasonable price of the hotel, we felt this was a fantastic deal. We were pampered and impressed!
Cons: Well it rained heavily for most of our stay, but that didn't stop us from loving the hot springs. Nothing quite like soaking in steamy waterfalls with rain falling all around.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was outstanding. The place itself is very taken care of and has some really cool details like a trail around the property for jogging through the jungle or the way they place fruit on trees just outside the restaurant so birds come down to eat. The thermals are amazing. The staff is top notch in friendliness, helpfulness and they take special care in training them on the activities you can do in the town outside the hotel; they could all explain perfectly on what the tours consisted on and what you can really expect from them, without overselling them. Also, the photos posted here on the site DO NOT DO JUSTICE TO THE PLACE. The facilities are a million times better than what the photos show.
Cons: A bit annoying that all prices are stated in USD rather than local currency, which makes it difficult to know if you're getting a good exchange rate. Even if you pay in local currency you will be charged in USD (except for cash payments, obviously).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location , excellent facilities, and fantastic views! Breakfast and restaurant was wonderful
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Long waiting times in the restaurant for dinner.
Cons: Staff was very friendly and always anticipated what we needed. Thermal pools are excellent.

Pros: Hotsprings, rooms and food was amazing! Best location to travel around Arsenal.
Cons: Honestly I can’t come up with anything that needed improvement. Fantastic!
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothings
Cons: The restaurant
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a natural park. The room with the private pool is wonderful. The breakfast is complete and of high quality.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is set in stunning scenery and the grounds are fantastic it has been very well thought through. Very friendly helpful staff and easy to find. They served some delicious cocktails and they were always made to perfection! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.
Cons: The only thing that let it down was That the food wasn't really that great. We had different steaks both nights and both times they were over cooked and tough. The breakfast is a buffet and again could just use a bit more attention.
Arenal Observatory Lodge & Spa - La Fortuna - Bedroom

9.2 Excellent (878 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in La Fortuna, Arenal Observatory Lodge & Spa is in a national park, within a 15-minute drive of Lake Arenal and Costa Rica Sky Adventures. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds were amazing and we loved that we had access to the National Park trails. The Jacuzzi was a nice treat after a long day of hiking. The views were breath-taking! Access to other activities was relatively easy but the roads are not great. Town was about a 30 minute drive away. Nice breakfast buffet provided free of charge!
Cons: It would be nice to have screens on the front doors as well so you could have both the patio door (which had a screen) and front door open to allow a cross-breeze. The room became a bit stuffy and buggy during the day without this. Also it would be good if t pool was heated to allow swimming year round. The prices for food at the restaurant were expensive. The Happy Hour (2 for 1) would be better if they allowed for 2 different drinks vs. 2 of the same kind of drink. Finally a shuttle to town that ran even just 3 times a day would be a great perk!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved having so many hikes/walks to do right on the property and a very good restaurant as well. It was so nice having nature and animals outside our door each day. The staff was warm, welcoming, helpful and friendly. There were plenty of activities to do on the grounds for all ages: pool, foosball/game room, checkers, books, TVs in the main buildings and a hot tub.
Cons: Be aware that the Lodge is a 20-25 minute drive from La Fortuna up a somewhat rough dirt road. If you have your own vehicle it's easy to get to and from, but without a bit more challenging. There are taxis that cost $30 each way or a shuttle 3x/day from the lodge.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Food and beverages were wonderful. One of the most amazing places to stay in the area.
Cons: Floors and walkways at hotel building were very slippery, as it rains regularly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Arenal Observatory definitely exceeded our expectations. The meals and the room were great. The closeness to the volcano, the lake and other attractions was very convenient and made planning day trips very easy. The staff was amazing, everyone was so helpful and friendly and made us feel so welcome.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gourmet restaurant, surrounded by incredible rainforest growth. Every room has a view. Full range of hiking opportunities. Outstanding pool and hot tub set into a wilderness forest setting and so much more
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views of Arenal Volcano. We did the morning hike which was included in the booking. The guide, Christian, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We even booked him for a lava hike. It was super!
Cons: Not much.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from our room was amazing. The jacuzzi and pool were great. They surprised us with treats for our honeymoon. We had a great time walking the trails and looking for wildlife. I'm glad we decided to spend a couple nights here!
Cons: The on-site restaurant was expensive.
9.4 Excellent
Cons: Prices or food were a bit expensive...we had a car so we drove to La Fortuna
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, views and surroundings were fabulous. Staff were ultra helpful.
Cons: It would have been helpful to have a small desk and chair in the room for using computer. Morning nature walk was a bit disappointing, as guide only occasionally stopped to point something out. Food was only fair.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I bet this hotel has the best view in costa rica, due to the volcano. Even though it was cloudy it was still very beautiful. Don’t be scared of it erupting because it will in 300 years. Also the hotel was in the rainforest and you could take various trails, go to the waterfall and see how coffee and chocolate is grown.

Pros: food was excellent at the restaurant
Cons: Trouble regulating water temperature in shower.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff. Wonderful views. Hot tub with candles was very romantic. Great bathrooms. Very comfy mattress. Breakfast was nice.
Cons: Room 405 was moldy. The wall behind the bed had significant mold on it. It was so bad that it made breathing difficult. I took a picture and showed the front desk. They readily changed ya to room 514 which was terrific. You should clean 405.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Happy hour. Lots of people to meet and speak with.
Cons: No issues. Had a great stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location with a great restaurant
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is very good with many many options. The hotel installations and gardens are excellent. The room is very comfortable and the bathroom is big. The hotel is outside the city center but very nearby.
Cons: Some rooms are located just in front of the entrance of the hotel. I didn't like it because it was near the entrance of cars and tourist buses. A bit noisy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Romantic location full of green and well-built private places. Outstanding breakfast with a great variety of food to choose from. Perfect room service and a delicious wood fired oven-baked pizza. The prices of the food and drinks you can buy are very fair (considering overall Costa Rica prices). Staff is extremely friendly and spaces are impeccably clean. They even have bidets in the bathrooms, by the way.
Cons: Could have had bigger TVs in the rooms, cable channel quality is not that good (but it isn't anywhere in Costa Rica) and the Wi-Fi connection is somewhat spotty, depending on where you are. No phone signal anywhere on the property except at the reception if you have Claro as a provider.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are fantastic, staff is awesome best value for the money hands down. Great food as well. Stay here you will not regret it. The views are stunning!

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely nice boutique hotel, great pool and hot tub area, solid breakfast. Less than a 5 minute walk to La Fortuna waterfall. Clean and comfortable
Cons: They never booked my shuttle to the airport as they said they would so the morning I was leaving was hectic and frustrating. Felt very sales-y trying to get everyone to do tours all the time.
4.8 Okay
Cons: El bungalow no tiene privacidad, las fotos que se muestran al reservar son muy distintas a la realidad. El servicio de desayuno es muy limitado. No fueron capaces de facilitarnos un destapa corchos. La relación precio/calidad es pobre
5.4 Okay
Pros: Rustic little lodge/cabin. Lots of tropical birds Staff was nice.
Cons: There was a dead rat outside our window
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very helpful with arranging day trips, yoga, spa, etc. We also loved the nature and animals on property (sloth, frogs, etc.)
Cons: Rooms were somewhat small.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: We liked that it is surrounded by foliage and each hacienda is adorable and you are in walking distance from the waterfall. The breakfast is excellent they do accommodate every room with an umbrella.
Cons: It is a boutique hotel so Daniel is do it all accept cook. The kitchen is only open for breakfast. the property next door is is a dog rescue so you will hear dogs barking in the evening.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really beautiful architecture with gorgeous landscape, many birds and other animals. The restaurant is excellent. A far cry above other meals we have had in this country. Everything tastefully done.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There was so much good to say. The checkin and checkout processes were very efficient and smooth. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent. The views were very good and there were all sorts of birds we were able to see in the morning. I only wish we could have stayed here longer.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast is okay and staff friendly.
Cons: The rooms are not very clean and smell musty. We changed rooms after the first night since it rained into our room but it was not any better in the other one. The high price is not reasonable at all for what you get. We were unsatisfied with this hotel and disapppointed.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved its location right in the midst of the rainforest! Our double room was actually a large suite which was a wonderful surprise when we checked in! Staff were very friendly & went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet, tranquil place to relax & enjoy the beauty of the rainforest.
Cons: Only wish there was an English speaking TV channel!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff provided great answers and suggestions
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff are not only helpful, but also go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We arrived late after the gates were locked... and we were scared (the trip was rainy and foggy!). But the front desk staff came in the rain at midnight, unlocked the gate, showed us to our room and we made it safely. The next day we bothered her again because we had problems with the safe, but she was always happy to help, patient, and would always ask if she could help more. This was the most helpful staff we've ever had.
Cons: Being near forests and waterfalls naturally makes the air very humid, even in the "dry" season. As a result, our pillows were musty (moldy?) and the sheets felt damp even though they were dry. It made sleeping a bit uncomfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The room was comfortable and we really enjoyed the terrace to sit in the early morning and watch the birds. It's not too far from Fortuna, but you need a car to get in.
Cons: There's nothing we didn't like!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: David and his family were great hosts. The hotel is well maintained. The rooms are clean and the pool is serviced regularly. It's a good location, about 1 mi out of the city center, but with multiple restaurants and a super market nearby. The Red Frog Coffee shop (little yellow building next door) is a great place; try the empanada. They also offer use of a communal kitchen that has the necessary cooking tools. David can also help you book taxis, tours and transfers.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Our family of five had a really nice time at Bijagua hotel. The apartment with two rooms and a spacious kitchen. A big wardrobe with hangers. A good shower. A pretty pool area with a clean pool. Lovely breakfast area with 3 different breakfast options. Supernice people running the place. And the best was all the beautiful birds in the garden!!!
Cons: Our apartment was the first which everyone passed coming in, and at night I sometime got disturbed by the noice from people talking. And the beds were a bit too hard for my taste. But the rest of the family slept fine. Almost two km to town, but a few restaurants nearby. And the taxi to town cost only 2 dollars. (Nighttime it’s a very dark walk.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: José (I hope I got his name right) was absolutely charming and very helpful. Very knowledgable about the area and was able to arrange any combination of things for us. Breakfast was very nice and beautiful setting.
Cons: The price was a little overinflated for the value that we got.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Gabby, the owner was great, very friendly and always helpful. the 2 cafes in the front were excellent and we ate there everyday. It's an easy walk to the beach and restaurants. Bank with ATM is across the street. So, all in all, very convenient and good value for the money.
Cons: there is a club on the other side of the the street that played very loud music on friday and saturday until at least 3pm. Sounded like it was in the hotel! Not good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very good. Our room was clean and beds were comfortable. Stuff was very helpful. The real jewel of the hotel was its owner. She was very helpful with all accommodations and I just liked talking to her. It felt like you talk to an old friend. Definitely will recommend this hotel.

Overview Reviews
Arenal Manoa Hotel is a beautiful place to rest, relax and enjoy the marvelous view of Arenal Volcano. Surrounded by gardens, pastures and animals, our rooms have been designed so that each one offers you a panoramic view of the volcano. Our visitors can take advantage of ourspacious gardens for walking and meditation as well as the opportunities to see the daily operations of a typical Costa Rican farm.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff, an overall lovely and well maintained property.
Cons: The staff let the kids go crazy in the thermal spa and bar area..... lots of French fries in the water and balls splashing water into the drinks. Ruined the atmosphere of the thermal spa and our drinks. Bathrooms could really use a fan to help get rid of the humidity after showering.
6.0 Good
Cons: The hotel is certainly not living up to expectations for a plus 350 dollar/night stay. The room walls were not isolated and we could hear all the conversations of our neighbours. Wifi did not work for the entire stay. The breakfast, which had to be paid on top, was chaotic, scarce and not tasty. Personnel was not very helpful and did not respond well to our inquiries / challenges.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is located perfectly, in the middle of the main attractions. We loved that basically each room was completely private, surrounded by luxurious vegetation. Everything in the room and on the property is natural, very little plastic and nothing looks cheap. The hot springs are awesome and one could relax there after a day of exploration. The property is maintained extremely well, it is spot clean, staff is extremely friendly. We got complememtary fresh fruits platter 2 days in a row. The coffee in the room is awesome. If you need something and you call front desk they will send what you need in less than 5 minutes. The restaurant is really great, fine dining in the area. Fresh food for all meals with basically everything natural. Another reviewer called this property "a hidden gen" and I completely agree. The pictures on most of the websites don't do real justice to the place.
Cons: They did not have a gym.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Value. Cleanliness.
Cons: Room is small
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful resort. Tranquil setting. spacious room with wonderful view of Arenal volcano. Attentive staff. Very good food.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing volcano view, close to Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal, Arenal 1968 and many other attractions. Excellent staff service, good wifi and good food. Very quiet and relaxing. Parking right in front of the guest house.
Cons: I doubt the so-called hot spring is just a swimming pool with warm water, the water doesn’t seem/smell like hot spring water.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, off main road. Quiet. Great breakfast Buffett and dinner options
Cons: Charge for everything. Free water in room would have been nice. Shuttle into town cost 15 one way!! Complimentary shuttle would have been nice. Mattress very hard
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the hotel! Too bad we only stayed one night because they were booked. The photos in the internet does no justice. The staff was very nice and everything was very clean. The room was large and it felt like a luxury hotel. The garden was very pretty and very well kept. The view of the volcano was beautiful. My daughter and her husband got a massage at the spa and they said the setting was beautiful in the lush gardens next to a river. The hot spring pool are drained and new water is put in in the morning. Loved everything about the hotel. Only regret is that we didn't stay there more days. We went the next day to another hotel that was more expensive and was not as nice.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Bar staff was great, property was beautiful, rooms slightly dated but clean and had everything we needed!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: it was great
Cons: the food could be a little better.

Pros: Pools and slides, plus the amazing volcano view!
Cons: Rooms were simple - could have been slightly updated. But very comfortable.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Pools, breakfast, tours
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice place. Good privacy even in shared houses with private verandas. Lots of pools and other stuff to do. Great breakfast. Restaurant doesn't do takeout and pool bar, which does, was very slow, though otherwise ok. And technically they ban food from the outside. So with a small baby going to sleep early, dinner was a problem. Thankfully there are minifridges (no microwaves or coffee pots, though) and no one enforces the ban. Also water slides, while fun, are a bit dangerous - the pools are too shallow for them to be used by adults without bruising an elbow or back
5.8 Okay
Pros: The pool was nice.
Cons: Very impersonal big place. Boring rooms and no WiFi. Our room was so far from the reception that we had to take a mini bus.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Variety of thermal water pools and excellent breakfast! Beautiful place! The Spa is great!
Cons: Room too far away and in end of a hill.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Front Desk should be more approachable. They are not friendly what so ever. Bartenders were super nice!
Cons: Did not like that the Front Desk was rude.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay here! Upon check in we greeted by very friendly staff. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. The hot springs were top notch. Make sure to explore the entire hot springs area. There are so many water slides to enjoy! Spectacular views of volcano from the hotel and the observation point!(which you can conveniently drive all the way up to!)
Cons: No WiFi in the rooms, Only in common areas

Pros: The included buffet was amazing! Excellent food; probably the best I’ve had in a long time at a hotel in Costa Rica over my travels across the Costa Rica pacific, northern and Caribbean coast! The many spa pools and even the slides were incredible!!!
Cons: Only if the hotel room had a view of the volcano, I would have scored it a 10.5 out of a 10!

7.9 Good
Pros: It’s family run and it gives it a more personal feel.
5 stars!

Cons: Very nice clean family run hotel.
