Pros: This is a stunning place to stay. We only spent one night and wished we had stayed longer. Such friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely excellent! The vibe, onsen, bamboo flooring - all great!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for a day here, and it was a very good surprise. Staff was very nice, the place was calm an neat. We could enjoy a nice place to relax after a long day of visiting :D
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hostel was a nonexpensive way stay in a beautiful old house, and the city giving access to the Izu Peninsula. I will come again.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great experience since the hostel is located in a historical building, and it's good for those who want to stay in a Ryokan style traditionnal japanese house on a budget while traveling in Japan. It's very clean, tidy and really confortable. Close to everything in Town and rent of Yukata is possible reasonable price. I should really come back again and stay longer. Highly recommended.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a great place you can feel they paid extra attentions even to small details to ensure visitors’ stay with great experience. eg, there are shoe dryers on rainy days. They proactively showed us locality map and highlighted restaurants with their specialty and price range. Their staff are really helpful and speak very well English. We feel no communication barrier here. The most impressive thing is the staffs are very kind. My original plan was bring my parents for this family trip. So I booked a room for 5 pax. unfortunately my mother had unexpected illness and unfit to travel. Final only left my husband and me for this trip. Upon arrival I mentioned about it. The staff here showed sympathy and proactively offered 2pax room with fee refunded for us. I am really touched.

Pros: The staff and owner were very kind and friendly. It’s also kids friendly place too. The room was so spacious. We also could use a big bathroom privately. We’re repeater and we come back again next year.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: very friendly people,so helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It`s a perfect offer for your holiday at Izukogen, caring owners family, amazing overall experience and a great value for the money they charge. Private hot bath, yukata provided, a true ryokan experience. Free massage armchair. Owner was kind enough to meet us at the station and give us a lift back too. I also rented an electric bicycle from him to go to the coast and explore the area.
Cons: Everything was just perfect, thank you once again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: eveeything is so great!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good ryokan, great value for great price while being authentic. They are very used to foreigners so everything has English translations attached. There is one large and one small public bath: They switch the gender assigned kinda randomly which means that depending on the time you may end up in either the big or the small one. Both are good. Less than 10 mins walk from the train station. Very nice small restaurants in immediate proximity (they close early).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Very nice accommodation, delicious food and friendly helpful hosts.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very helpful
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was kind-enough to pick us up,vdrive us back to the train station as well as to a sight about town. Excellent dinner & value, nice-clean communal bath
Cons: The room was a bit tight, the price at 12-13K yen is a bit high
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bath is public (as common in Japan) but they are happy to arrange a time where you can use it all by yourself, that was very nice and considerate!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked the open-air bath in our room. The staff were so attentive and hospitable. The dinners, both Japanese and French, were simply amazing and exceeded our expectations.
Cons: The wifi in our room did not work well at all. They lent us a mobile phone which we could use as a personal hotspot and it worked reasonably well (but not fully).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Impeccable service. Beautiful surroundings. Dining was superb. Little extras made it special.
Cons: Nothing. Loved it all!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous property. Beautiful room. Lovely outdoor space & onsen. A totally indulgent & decadent stay.
Cons: Better air conditioning in room. Got very hot
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are all extremely friendly, polite and helpful. Dinner and breakfast are excellent!
Cons: Would be better if the room wasn’t on the basement level. The bed linen was a bit on the rough side but the duvet cover was very smooth.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautiful and each of the rooms carefully thought through with beautiful gardens. The food was impeccable, particularly the teppanyaki and the bottle of Chablis we had was divine. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: beautiful hotel..best service
6.3 Good
Pros: We enjoyed good breakfasts and excellent dinners. As we stayed for three nights, we had the chance to try every type of cuisine on offer. The kaiseki was very good, the French cuisine was excellent and the teppanyaki delightful. Portions are just right. The private onzen bath we had was really agreeable and the water temperature is adjustable. We especially like the small sword museum as well as the video with clear explanations of how samurai swords are made. Scent bag making was also fun and a pleasant activity on a rainy day.
Cons: The place really needs a face lift. They put in a new wing but the old wing is the one that requires extensive renovations to remain competitive and attractive. The lobby area is very tired, the carpet was old and worn. They also need to clean the toilet bowl thoroughly as accumulated dirt is visible and rather offensive. Non-Japanese staff not up to standards and totally lacks Japanese manners. Found out that the owners are Taiwanese - well, I hope they remember that this is supposedly a Japanese ryokan and a certain style of etiquette is expected.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: One if the great nights and hope to able to do it again. Amazing food and beach walks.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Our welcome and the staff were excellent, extremely helpful and English was spoken. The setting is lovely, amongst trees and nature and the local walks along the coastline were one of our favourite parts of our holiday. Breakfasts and dinners were an amazing experience and lived up to expectations and in the seated dining room, dressed in our Japanese gowns, were a very authentic experience. The onsen (springs) were a welcome relaxing experience.
Cons: Our room (601) felt a little small and basic and there wasn't room to unpack all our stuff, particularly when the futon was laid out. It was also right above one of the springs, which given they are open 24 hours and there is no sound proofing to speak of, meant we were kept awake by other guests using them when we went to bed, at 2am and then 6.30 the following morning. This didn't feel very restful! The onsen themselves are wonderfully hot with nice views out on to nature in some of them, and though I appreciate it's difficult to keep such a humid environment looking good, they looked a little tired. This place was the most we have ever paid in our lives for a 2 night stay and although the staff, food and environment were wonderful, it didn't sadly feel good value for money. Perhaps in a different room we may have felt a little differently.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quiet excellence in a a rural environment
Cons: Some of the tiling in the onsen is coming off.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality of the staff was second to none. The food was incredible. Everything felt quiet, tranquil and private. The onsen were incredible. Really appreciated that they were completely private.
Cons: I don't sleep particularly well with light so I found the room quite bright at night. However, the hot springs and the futon made me very tired so this wasn't much of a problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect two night stay of R&R
Cons: For light sleepers because outside is so quiet you can hear a bit of noise from other ryokans etc but nothing ear plugs don’t fix
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Natural setting, lovely baths, tranquil atmosphere
Cons: Would be nice to have hot water ready for green tea with a sweet snack when one gets back after a long day
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was our last hotel during the trip to Japan. We really felt relaxed. Extremely good food, nice private onsens. Very clean rooms and friendly staff.
Cons: Pricey

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent experience at the hotel. Staff very friendly, speak very good English and help understand the accommodation. The room I was in was a larger one with a view of the hills and the sea, and the rotenburo on the balcony, clean, very convenient, feels well maintained. Meals were served in the room, very tasty, and a good choice of main course for the dinner, including abalone, wagyu and deer. Hot spring excellent, and rotation between male and female hours allows to experience all of facilities either in the morning or evening. Great views from the rotenburo. You can take a shuttle bus from the station, or it's a 10-15 minute walk from Minami Ito station, which is also convenient enough and gives good views of the area. Will gladly come back and stay again.
Cons: Everything excellent. If I am picky, would be great to have milk available near the hot spring area though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly service. Good food.
Cons: Too far from downtown.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: All the staff are very helpful, rooms are very clean.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing. This convinced us to also try the dinner, which didn't let us down. The host was very nice and both picked us up when we arrived and drove us when we left from/to the train station. There is a superb view from the room and the private onsen available is very cosy. This is definitely the best place we have stayed in Japan.
Cons: I would have liked to have some drawers / closet for unpacking. But the room was very big and there were some hangers provided, so it was not a big issue.
6.3 Good
Pros: The breakfast was very good - if you liked fish. My wife didn’t and had very little to eat. The outdoor Onsen was fine and we really appreciated the owner giving us a lift to the station.
Cons: Previous reports suggests the need for an upgrade. For the price the renovations need to start ASAP. The indoor Onsen didn’t look good so we didn’t use it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel owner and his wife are very helpful and polite. They make delicious food with heart. It seems that we had fine dining every meal. On the day we departed, they even made us snack for our lunch. The room and the dinning room are clean with beautiful view. The outdoor hot spring is good with beautiful scenery.
Cons: Too many steps to go up the hotel from the road. The indoor hot spring is a bit too worn out.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were warm & excellent and traditional first night dinner was incredible. Views are stunning view of this cozy Japanese beach town.
Cons: Some of the furniture is a bit old.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great view across the bay. The property itself is very small with just 3 (large!) rooms, therefore very homely atmosphere. We enjoyed the on-site Onsen very much.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff Delicious Japanese breakfast Huge room Amazing view
Cons: Onsen (Bath houses) could use alittle work, but they were perfectly usable

Cons: Only thing is it is a bit far and not central to the spots in Ito and such, but that’s also a positive thing since you will be away from the crowd. If you are looking for a quiet get away this would be a great choice! Owner is also very nice to have taken us to places we go to and pick us up.

Pros: Great location great course.
Cons: Food was super expensive and average at best.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Golf here is amazing and the spa/onsen were great
Cons: The hotel is in need of a major facelift. It’s a fantastic property but looks like it’s frozen in time (1950’s). It’s charming in some respects but the experience of staying/eating/golfing is expensive and some basic updates are needed.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is really great, as well as the hotel grounds. Staff was very helpful, professional and spoke English. Room was very spacious. We enjoyed our stay at Kawana Hotel.
Cons: We booked a private outside bath, which was said to be discounted in the event of rainy weather. In the hotel it turned out there's a strangely complicated process for it which meant we didn't get the discount, even though it was raining at the time of our bath.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location with sea view, pristine onsen overlooking the sea, classy room service and well trained professional hotel staff
Cons: The Fuji Course is beautiful. Staff exceeded expectation with a last minute opportunity to play the Fuji Course a second time.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was big and cosy. The staff is very friendly. Very good fish. Good location near Jogasaki coast.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Upon our arrival we were greeted by very friendly ISANA Resort staff, a very good initial impression. After check-in we were given a brief but very nice tour of the facility with a simple explanation of the onsen and meal schedule. In addition to the public onsen we had a private onsen in our room with a beautiful view of the ocean. All areas of the facility were spotless. We stayed two nights, half-board included, with freshly prepared French-Japanese cuisine which was beautifully presented and the taste equally exquisite. In addition to the spotless facility and wonderful dining, we did this with our two small children. The ISANA Resort was incredible with our children. They certainly did more than expected to keep our children entertained, which made the overall experience fabulous. We are looking forward to our next visit already!
Cons: There was nothing not to like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing food, both breakfasts and dinners!! Very talented chef! Great Family owned hotel with great service!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love their hospitality. They have trouble with the pipe so they can’t fill my guests’ bath with hotspring water, so I was their only guest since every other guests have cancelled. They give me a free upgrade to their best room. The dinner is really worth to try.
Cons: Wifi is a little too weak, I got disconnected a lot while video calling with my family.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Loved the closeness to the ocean and the semi-outdoor onsen bath! There were no pictures of the bath so I had very low expectations but it was actually really nice. The breakfast was very filling too!
Cons: When the room above us used the bath the water splashed onto our balcony due to the broken piping (rusted pipes, the damage was clearly visible and pipes just didn't connect). The furniture in the room was pretty old and the room looked worse than I expected based on the pictures.

Pros: The view from all onsens are amazing, you will enjoy the sea view with sunshine and hot spring! Room is also very spacious and we have a balcony facing the sea too. DHC snacks are also a plus!
Cons: We had a car to drive around hence it was no problem for the location. Some staff really speaks limited Japanese so try your luck if you don't understand Japanese.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our host was wonderful, so helpful and thoughtful, she used google translate on her ipad to communicate with us. She gave us lifts to restaurants in the evening, so kind. The hotel is beautiful and unique with amazing views of the mountains and the sea. Wish we had stayed longer! Thank you Makiko!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire place was just amazing. It has a super cool castle turret, a lovely cafe, a wonderful onsen surrounded by plants, crafted stone outdoor living walls/floors/buildings, BEAUTIFUL plants and flowers EVERYWHERE (it felt like a beautiful greenhouse garden all the time), and a view of the ocean that's only a ~10 minute walk away. We originally only booked one night, and within 10 minutes of arriving, we immediately asked to book a second night JUST so that we could stay at this amazing place even longer to better enjoy it. Also, the staff were very inviting and friendly! We were given rides to dinner and the train station, given a tour of the full location, and had laughs with our translators when communicating. This will always be a magical place for us!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the view was amazing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This place was very quirky. The owner manager told us his father had built the hotel himself it needed a bit of tidying up but you could see the potential as it was right on the coast cut into the side of a hill with great sea views. We were given what was in fact a small cabin. There was an entrance as you walked in with a sep wc to your right a good size sep lounge a sep bedroom & a sep bathroom. Was very comfortable & cool with everything you would find at home. There was a spa pool up in a turret where u could really take in the views. Great restaurant at top of the hill.. but we had a car... Very nice guy & we were introduced to the father the next day great guy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was beautiful and so unique it could not be experienced anywhere else. The owner was extremely accommodating in all of our needs, even giving us a ride to Mt. Omaru and to dinner every evening. With the host making us feel at home down to the wonderful homemade breakfast to being surrounded by mountains and coast line offering a variety of things to do, it made for a much needed relaxing 3 days during our two week trip in Japan.
Cons: The beds were hard compared to American style, but seem just slightly harder than other places we have stayed in Asia.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: fucking' amazing private hot spring! you just have to let them know when you want it, and they prepare it for you, the room is full of exotic plants and it's all for not too much money. take some salt with you for the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Phenomenal customer service by the hostess. We had a language barrier as we didn't speak Japanese, nor did She speak English, but she surpassed this barrier swiftly with Google translate and we had no problem, she picked us up from the station, gave us a lift to the shops, back to the station, I'm sure if we asked she would have taken us to any local tourist attractions. The location overall was great, it just simply is a town with sparse shops. Jogasaki coast line is close by and a fantastic view and walk! Comfortable sofa! Lovely bed ! Nice and spacious, felt like our own Greek cottage ! Secluded little walk way to our room/cottage. Free use of the onsen, which was hot spring fed, lovely flowers and private use! Free use of the tennis court and rackets! We didn't have food in the cafe, but it is just beautiful and idyllic! We can't speak highly enough of this place !
Cons: Quite far from shops, however, the owner was fantastic and offered to drive us whenever we wanted at a moment's notice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: J-Garden provides adorable little cottages that are impeccably clean. The hosts are very friendly and go beyond to make your stay enjoyable. The accommodation is a perfect starting point if you are planning to see the Kadowakizaki suspension bridge and do the Jogasaki coastal hike.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Every aspect of our stay at J-Garden was outstanding. The owners are very professional, but also very friendly. From waking up on a rainy day and find umbrellas at the door, to standing in the rain to show us where breakfast was served on the first day. All fittings in our villa were of the finest quality, from the big comfy bed, gorgeous big pillows, super flush toilet with bidet, and warm surroundings that made it feel like we were at home. The private onsen is amazing, like being in a tropical jungle! And to top it off, the bath in the villa is onsen water, so you can enjoy a bath anytime you like. We didnt have a car, but no problem, the owners picked us up and dropped us off at the station, and even drove us to the supermarket on the second day to get some things. Free bbq service is available, but it rained for most of our stay. Love J-Garden!
Cons: If you are into diving, this is the place for you! if not, there is a nice hiking track along the coast, but apart from that not much to see. However, just relaxing there was great!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The lodges were nice, and the management were very helpful. They picked us up from the station, drove us back, and even made us some hot chocolate when we looked as if we were suffering a bit from the unseasonably cold weather. The bathrooms have a special tap that allows you to run volcanic spa water directly into your bath. The Jogaski coast is beautiful and we were sorry that we only had 2 days to explore it. Would definitely come back and would definitely stay in J-Garden again.
Cons: Would advise a little caution if staying with small children, because the lodges are on a hillside and there are some unfenced drops, also the spa water is very hot.
