Deceptive, Fraudulent Business PracticesCons:Three significant problems with our car rental experience: 1) After paying in full online with Kayak, we were billed again at pickup at the Hertz counter in the amount of $64. The counter clerk explained that every day she receives complaints about the extra billing and that there is nothing she can do about. We paid the $64 since we needed a a car right then; in effect, a hostage payment. 2) Our Hertz counter clerk urged we self-inspect the car for any significant problems. We did so and found only an aged, minor paint chip and some minor scratches on the bumper. We accepted the car as is with these minor damages. After returning the car in clean condition and with a full tank of gas, we received by email a damage investigation notice that there was the chipped paint and bumper scrapes. There should, of course, be no investigation of these issues since they existed prior to our rental. 3) After receiving the damage inspection email, I called Hertz's damage inspection manager Kelly Ann Boutilier. On the phone, Kelly Ann promised to look into the matter immediately get back to me the same day for resolution, since she was leaving for a 3 day trip. Kelly Ann did not follow through and get back to me as promised. Conclusion: Our rental experience was highly negative. Truly, this has been a flim-flam, con. At the moment, we are being billed $131.74 for the original charge, plus a second billing of $205.07. The original contract price was just $42.51/day x 3 days = $127.53. We are placing both charges with our credit card in dispute.Reviewed 11 Jul 2017

Hertz is unaccomodating, at best.Pros:The car was mostly clean.Cons:Hertz was not accommodating for pick up - we hoped to change the location of our pick up as our travel plans were altered due to airline flight changes. We were informed we couldn’t change the pick up location - which caused us to incur $70 expenses for a taxi. We were able to change our drop off location- but only for a fee. How convenient... The clerk we picked up the vehicle from was rude/ aloof and attempted to downgrade our vehicle for no rate change. The employee we returned the car to attempted to charge us a refueling cost of $90 when the car was actually full... all in all the service we received was terrible.Reviewed 19 Aug 2018

DisappointedCons:So many things were disappointing! Firstly, I prebooked & paid for a small economy car on line only to be told upon arrival there was no car for us. I had to wait an hour for a car, then was given a much larger car than wanted.(a Dodge Charger, after me booking a Kia Rio) Then the agent stated” oh this is a perfect car, not a scratch on it!” Upon our own inspection prior to moving the car, it had multiple areas of damage including an obvious point of impact on the rear which had to be noted by the manager before we could leave... this lead to another lengthy delay in us driving away to begin our vacation. When returning the car, with a FULL tank of gas the agent charged me an extra 80$ for a fuel surcharge!!! When this error was pointed out to her, I had to wait an additional time period for a supervisor to correct the issue. Overall, Hertz has not been satisfactory and I will certainly be looking toward a competitor company for my next rental!Reviewed 28 Aug 2018

worst customer service ever!Cons:Don't expect customer service to solve any problem if you use third party website. They will deflect all responsibilities to the third party while the third party does the same thing. It is the worst run around circle I've ever been. They are cheap for a reasonReviewed 3 Sep 2018

Cons:They wouldn't allow a spouse to drive with out an extra $13.00 a day charge, nor would they allow us to substitute my husband's name for mine to avoid the charge. It took over an hour for them to produce the car. On return they "accused" us of scratches on the fender which we did not make! They were already present on this rental with over 50k kilometers. Lousy experience coming and going. I do not recommend Hertz at Halifax Stanfield airport.Reviewed 3 Sep 2018

Cons:The car had an Ontario license plate, which concerned me since I was driving in Nova Scotia. Also, the car was extremely dirty on the outside...the inside was okay.Reviewed 11 Mar 2019

Base model cars and quick to charge for add onsPros:Nissan Altima was very good on fuel economy, they also had me on my way very quickly.Cons:Base model cars are uncommon at other providers but not at Hertz. I also was not able to use my rental due to weather challenges as the tires while legal were not sufficient for snow covered roads. The last thing was upon return of the car they were originally going to charge over the daily rate for an extra 30 minutes.Reviewed 19 Feb 2018

Halifax Car RentalPros:On August 8, 2018 the Ford Escape rear seat belt stopped working. We needed to me a trip out of our way to the Halifax Airport location to have the seat belt checked. Again Ray was there. Ray had Wil checked the seat belt and was able to repair. Thank you both Ray and Will for you help and understanding. This Hertz Rental experience did not meet our expectations. When we went to pick up our rental at the Hertz Halifax downtown location they did not have the vehicle we booked. The unknown of not getting a vehicle that would accommodate us and making unnecessary trips to get customer service was disappointing. We should have been able to phone someone and get assistance. There is a disconnect between customer service and the rental locations. There is a disconnect between rental locations. There is a disconnect between customers and rental locations. Why did we have to make a trip to the Halifax Airport location to get customer service? We should have be able to phone and talk to a associate. I left a phone message and they did not return my phone call. Why? For your review and reply.Cons:On Sunday July 29, 2018 0900 hrs we arrived at the Hertz Halifax downtown location to pick up our vehicle. The rental agent told us they do not have a car as booked. The option was a 4 door jeep. I explained to the rental agents at that time I didn't think jeep would work as we were traveling with my parents 87 years old and both use canes. I didn't think that they would be able to get in and out of the jeep safely because it was too high. On Monday July 30, 2018 0830 we phoned the Hertz Halifax downtown location - left a message that we would need a car, as we were traveling with my parents 87 years old and both use canes. We tried the jeep and they were unable to get in and out of the jeep safely because it was too high. We phone again at 0900 hrs and Brittany answered. She put me on hold and checked for us. She said that there was nothing she could do and that we would have to contact the booking agency Kayak. I asked Brittany for the Hertz customer service number as this should easy for Hertz to accommodate. I phoned 1-800-263-0900 and again explained our situation. We were traveling with my parents 87 years old and both use canes. We tried getting in and out of the jeep safely but it was too high. Holly said she would checked and put us on hold. Holly explained that it was a busy time of year. She asked me what province is Halifax in and I said Nova Scotia. She then put me over to Barbara. She asked me what province is Halifax in. I told her Nova Scotia. She said she would try and get a hold of the Halifax Airport distribution center to see if they have a car for us. She put us on hold to check. She said she was unable to get a hold of an agent at the Halifax Airport location. Maybe go to that location and see what they have. I explained that I did not want to make a trip to the airport if they do no have a car. They do not answer the phone. At 1015 hrs I explained again to Kirsten and she had no luck getting a hold of anyone the Halifax airport location. They are not answering the phone. At 1049 hrs I was transferred to Samantha. Explained the situation again. There was nothing she could do and the phone call was cut off. 1100 hrs I phone the Halifax Airport location - left a message explaining our situation to see if they could help us. On August 1, 2018 still no reply from the Halifax Airport distribution location. With our vacation plans changing we made a trip to the Halifax Airport location. I spoke to Ray, discussed the situation and he was able to accommodate the vehicle change front the 4 door Jeep to a Ford Escape. Note: the Jeep that was returned to the Halifax Airport location had a door sticker 'next service due' July 22 at 11,839 km; it was past due. I told Ray about this. I explained to Ray that I phoned this location and left a message and that I did not receive a call back. Again the reply was they are busy.Reviewed 12 Aug 2018
