Cons: Was turned away from restaurant for breakfast, very brusquely and without any assistance as to where I should go. When I asked another member of staff for directions, he pointed me back to the restaurant I had just been ejected from. There then followed an altercation in Portugese with me finally, and with a lack of good grace, being seated in what I late learned was the "VIP" restaurant. I was assured by the second member of staff that the package I had paid for entitled me to eat in that restaurant. I was somewhat surprised to find later that my partner, who breakfasted before me, had also been turned away from this restaurant and had eaten elsewhere. If you are going to be a 4\5 star hotel, then you should provide 4\5 star service.

Cons: A small suggestion is that the buffet evening meal was expensive if you had children with the charge at 25 Euros and half price for kids. There are too many excellent restaurants locally to make this viable. They should consider kids up to say 10 years eat free.

Cons: Free wifi worked well within the limited area of the lobby and pool deck. However, the constant need (every 30 minutes or so) to log-in with both username and password of "guest" on my portable device was frustrating at times, and, in my opinion, served very little purpose. But, it was free... so can't really complain too much, right?

Pros: Great location, very efficient and professional reception and restaurant staff - our room was huge and had a sea view which we were not expecting! The hotel, room and pool areas were spotlessly clean and the evening buffets were good value. The pool area in particular was lovely - there were always sunloungers available and the view was great.
Cons: Very, very minor points but it would have been good to have better lighting in the bedrooms for reading and a freshwater pool with lanes for more serious swimmers/for fitness. Also it would be good to make it easier to order food/snacks by the poolside (you had to go into the Ocean restaurant to order sandwiches which can be a little awkward when they are trying to serve lunch at the same time) The slightly lower mark for "value for money" was for the spa treatments which seemed to be a bit more expensive than other hotels.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and quick with checking in and out. The rooms were clean but not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. It is not in the centre of Funchal but in Lido which is about a 20-30min walk away but it is in the nicest area of Madeira with shops, restaraunts and buses close by into the centre of town. It is overall a fabulous hotel that if you get a chance to stay at when they offer these great rates you should absolutely take the opportunity to do so!

Cons: Every night at about 2am or so, they would turn off the central A/C, so it would only blow regular, not cool air into your room. By 4 am the room was hot and every night we would wake up and have to open the balcony door for cooler air. A little dissapointing for a 5 star hotel.

Cons: Compared to the volume of the hotel, the number of parking lots was too little. Very often we were forced to look for parking lots outside in Funchal - which is not really funny or easy. All of those had to be paid and the parking time very often was limited. So if you'd like to rent a car, it is advisable to rent cars via the hotel or rent them only daywise.

Cons: Three minor points: 1. the cost of consumptions at the pool area is high (6 euro for a long drink). 2. the fact that you hear the noise of the upstair neighbours peeing in their toilet 3. The average age of the guests is high ! It looks like a retirement house (of course they can pay the price)

Cons: A little disappointed that we weren't warned of building works at the nearby casino which was directly opposite our room. These were rather noisey and disrupted the peace and quiet we had headed to Madeira for.

Cons: Internet Access prices - it's a 5 star hotel, sure they don't need to make a business also from something that in these days is so easy and cheap to get and free in most other hotels in Madeira. Not enough plugs in the room are in very difficult places.

Pros: When we arrived we were taken into the sister hotel Miramar as the Village was undergoing eco friendly alterations. These two hotels were situated on the same site but with separate entrances. We found the Miramar slightly old worldie with antiques scattered over the building and the decore was also of times gone by. The atmosphere was serene and peaceful. The food was good with extensive selection self-service breakfast with a delightful arrangement of small rooms, nooks and cranies within a larger room. This became an intimate candlelit dining area with waiter service in the evening. It had a staircase leading to a bar serving an interesting selection of cocktails. The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive.

Cons: I was sad we were not able to see the rooms but we were able to walk around the grounds of the Village which were the most attractive and peaceful gardens I have even seen in any hotel. There were many flowers and and shrubs in bloom even in November - better than the Botanical Gardens - so ideal for nature lovers. but the area is very hilly and not within walking distance of Funchal centre -especially for oldies! And there is no courtesy bus offered.

Cons: Problems with A/C. If we turned it on, it started cooling but after about half hour it stopped cooling. When we restarted A/C, it was the same problem. So we had 27 degrees during the night in our room, for us too hot. We complained to the reception about this problem, but they did nothing with this. It was really big disappointment for me.
