Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very pleasant guest house. Very friendly, helpful owner and staff. Breakfast very good. Would certainly go again.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Charming historic house with beautiful public rooms and a lovely garden overlooking Funchal. Bedroom comfortable but retaining historic character. Breakfast on the terrace was a delight. Your interactions are with genuine people, not always with a lot of English but with the Portuguese warmth and humor that makes this island special. Pleasant residential neighborhood.
Cons: Access by car is challenging on very steep and narrow streets, so if driving yourself, this may not be for first-timers in old European cities. The price of having a view to die for is that you are far above the city and will probably want to taxi or drive to the center (although it could be walked in about half an hour). Like many historic properties in Madeira, your windows are your ventilation, and they work great--but if you prefer canned air, go elsewhere.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Wonderful, varied and extensive breakfasts on the terrace with a view over Funchal. Beautiful building with lovely furnishings and Rita was enormously welcoming and helpful with advice about driving into Funchal and places to eat. Very nice to have secure car parking and a lovely garden to sit in on returning from Funchal. We enjoyed our three night stay and would love to return (but to a different room nect time).
Cons: Our check in was a little confused (not with Rita) and consequently we ended up with the garden double rather than the garden twin bed room. The mattress in the double was very firm - but might suit others.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The very clean comfortable room, having breakfast on the terrace, the friendly staff.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very pleasant guest house. Family run, so friendly, helpful & welcoming
Cons: All good
Excellent 9.6
Pros: It was basic but sufficient.
Cons: There was no tea/coffee machine in room.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: It was in a beautiful situation with stunning views. Simple homely accomodation in a lovely old house surrounded by gardens.
Cons: Nothing, we loved it!
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Very nice house with beautiful garden. Staff was great, very helpful and kind. While we eat breakfast , cleaning lady tidied up our room:) she is great. Rita thanks for everything , you saved us with finding us a car for rent. And you sugestion for visiting Palheiro gardens was great, the most beautiful gardens we have ever seen. Very good breakfast. 50m from bus station to town centre. Very calm for sleping, comfortsble bed. Thanks for everything
Cons: No tv in the room but we were only guests siting in a quinta living room so we watched tv programs we chouse. No paper tissues in a bathroom but this are just suggestions, not something we will complain about:)
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The Quinta was very relaxing, in a beautifully quiet location. It was very clean and tidy. We really liked the laid back atmosphere. Great views from our room and during the excellent breakfast on the terrace. The taxi driver (Aires) was friendly and so helpful. He took us to Pico Ariero and back and it was a highlight of our stay! We also really enjoyed swimming at the Lido (~20min walk).
Cons: The Quinta is located at the bottom of an extremely steep road and there is only one restaurant nearby and it's at the top of the hill. This wasn't a problem for us because we only stayed for a few days, but it could get tiresome if you plan to stay for longer without hiring a car and you don't want to take the bus back into town.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly. Always willing to help. They really made us feel welcome and comfortable.
Cons: A fan in the room would have been nice.
Good 7.7
Pros: A fabulous and very impressing house with a beautiful and well kept garden. The Quinta and its rooms are in an excellent condition with a luxurious atmosphere. Sitting on the loggia of the "superior room" or on the terrasse opens a splendid view over Funchal and its harbour and when having breakfast, one could stay there for hours. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The owner of the Quinta came by every morning in order to see whether everything was fine. There is one good and one excellent restaurant in walking distance with mostly native guests so there is no need to go to Funchal for taking meals and this avoids having to visit the touristic oriented restaurants in Funchal.
Cons: The walk to Funchal is only 25 minutes but uncomfortable because one must walk on streets with no side-walk. However, this is the price you must pay in consideration for staying in a location outside Funchal that offers more personal atmosphere than a hotel. In any case, bus connections are good and if you have a car, it is only 10 minutes to Funchal that offers good parking possibilities.
Good 7.3
Pros: Very nice, comfortable and clean with a beautiful breakfast served on a patio overlooking the port at Funcal. The owner was friendly, helpful and resourceful.
Cons: It's close to a noisy street.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: It provided excellent service with a friendly owner. Most suited to a quiet break for couples.
Cons: Nothing at all!
Okay 5.0
Pros: Spacious room with wonderful views over Funchal and the harbour.
Cons: Exceptionally narrow bed (in the the very big room). Barking dogs and loud neighbours disrupted much of the expected tranquility. There is only one restaurant in the neighbourhood. The walk into Funchal is only some 25 minutes, but unpleasant un the narrow road on which peaple drive way too fast. Owner only accepted cash payment (credit card machine had not arrived...) and returned no receipt. Didn't promote a very serious impression.
Good 7.7
Pros: Excellent place for people who want to stay outside the touristic district and who don't like huge crowded hotels. Fantastic atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Beautiful view over Funchal. Walking distance to the restaurants area in Funchal about 20 min and 30 back.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Beautiful gardens and a stunning view over the harbour. Very friendly, helpful owners and staff. Quiet and calm.
Cons: $review.cons
Good 6.7
Pros: lovely location, friendly staff
Cons: Although bus stopped virtually outside, buses were irregular with big gaps in evening. It is possible to walk into Funchal but not a pleasant walk (30mins)

Pros: Great hotel, overlooking the city. Room was very clean, well equipped and quiet. Many thanks to Mr. Nuno, who was friendly and helpful and gave us good tips how to get to the sites.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Great Breakfast Service by Sylvia and her team!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We loved just about everything in this hotel! From the parking garage that they kindly opened for us when we arrived (just give them a call a few minutes before arriving), so we didn't need to leave our car on a steep street, to the personal greeting. Room was spaceous, whole hotel is bright and welcoming. The garden is beautiful and the view to the old town is just perfect! We really enjoyed the breakfast, that they served us outside with the view of Funchal. Old town is just about 10 min walk away. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Thank you for everything, we would strongly reccomend staying with them.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The brekfast was wonderful with a lovely view. Room was nice and clean. I would definately visit again!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Silvia"s breakfast was a very nice feast that included made to order eggs and her special fresh juices. Served with a smile and great views of Funchal. The staff was welcoming and helpful with anything we needed at any time of day. Marianna exceeded our expectations to help us out. Many thanks to the staff! We very much enjoyed our stay and the comforts for our room.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Quiet, restorative environment
Cons: The bed was not comfortable enough.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location and friendly staff
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The view from both the room and the garden/terrace, the amazing breakfast, the location close to the old town restaurants, marina, cable car and farmers market, the staff who were all much more than nice and helpful, the indoor parking of the hotel (otherwise very difficult to park in the area). We felt like visiting family/ friends...
Cons: -
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This is an absolutely beautiful, tasteful hotel and definitely in the 'boutique' department. You can't really see it from outside but once through the gate you get to see that its an old house with a large modern extension set within a lovely well maintained garden/courtyard area. Our room (212) was a suite within the old house with a huge balcony that overlooked Funchal and the sea. The space we had was enormous with a large bedroom that opened on to the balcony. It has a separate fully equipped kitchen with hob, microwave, coffee machine, fridge, toaster, etc, a large bathroom with 2 sinks and a dining room that never got used. Breakfast is served either downstairs or outside under a cover overlooking Funchal and the harbour. Breakfast is huge and consists of cereals, bread, pasties, meats, cheese and various cooked options. We absolutely loved this hotel and could not fault it - everything has been carefully thought about and it is of a very high standard. When arriving you are personally greeted by the manager who tells you about stuff - like breakfast starts at 8am and does not finish - turn up whenever it suits you! There is no hotel reception as such so its all very quiet and almost feels like it's your personal place - although you can call someone anytime of the night or day if need be.
Cons: Nothing could be better about the hotel as such - maybe a sun-lounger on the balcony as well as the table and chairs? The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the 'old town' and 'Rua de Santa Maria' - but its up hill on the way back - you don't get the glorious views for nothing!
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The view was amazing from our bedroom overlooking Funchal city and seafront. The beds were really comfortable and the accommodation was very modern and clean with lots of light. The garden was also very well maintained and lovely to look at. The staff members were very welcoming and went above and beyond with requests and help.

Pros: The style of the hotel, which I met 25 years ago!
Cons: Not to be better, but the drive to/ from Funchal is difficult after some wine!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Lovely room, friendly staff, beautiful gardens. Loved walking down to the golf clubhouse in the evenings to enjoy food and drink and watch the sun go down. Lovely chocolate cake for me on my birthday.
Cons: No transport to meet us at the airport as we had previously arranged. We paid the hotel for transport for departure and then had to pay the taxi driver AGAIN !!! when we arrived at the airport. Raw boiled egg for breakfast on the last day.
Excellent 9.2

Excellent 8.8
Pros: Great location, brilliant room (apart from its location within the complex), comfy sun beds, delicious choices at breakfast and all staff were helpful and friendly.
Cons: Poor swimming pool - it's only 1.5m deep and freezing - so not good for swimming, the gym is hidden in a corner in the basement. Our room overlooked the garden/park next door so we had lots of disturbance from noisy drug users and dealers.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Location was perfect, staff friendly and efficient, food was amazing.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Ovation is great, lots of restaurants. Hotel facility great. Breakfast is fantastic.
Cons: Female reception very gruff, felt like I was bothering her. Not friendly and very curt. The young girls at the desk were very friendly as were the men but the 2 female older staff members were not.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Location is excellent
Cons: Ants in the room!
Mediocre 3.8
Pros: Location in the city of Funchal
Cons: Located close to sewage station. It has a terrible smell. 10-15 homeless man living around the hotel yard and on the hotels beach. Nice look and smell. My room was full of ants. My bed, my bags and etc. I ask manager for help, but it was ignored.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Location and rooftop pool
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The staff did respond to my requests for an alternative room as well as getting us checked in earlier. Also, we tried the evening dinner buffet and it was exceptional.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The room had a lovely view plus a balcony, the bed was extremely comfortable plus a bath in the bathroom, not just a showerpp
Cons: Having to go home so soon!! There was nothing that was so important that I’d want it changed.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: All-in-all a good place, quality hotel with decent style. Breakfast is very decent. Location is good - in the middle of old city, good if you are up for touristy things. Fair value for money. A perfectly decent hotel - an upper-medium 4* experience
Cons: Staff is ok but could be a bit more forthcoming. Overall, a bit of a mass-tourist experience - you can see that the place is mostly booked by tourist agencies/en mass...

Good 7.9
Pros: Everything
Cons: Very used carpet in a main bedroom. It looks dirty.
Good 6.7
Pros: Home was nice, kitchen, salon, televisión channels etc.. We were near to the road to catch the bus into Funchal.
Cons: There was no cushions on the sun beds on the terrace. The area was very hilly, you need a car.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Huge villa, well equipped with everything you need except there was no good coffee machine like nespresso. The garden is nice and the terrace is lovely for breakfast and diner. Beautiful view on the sea and Funchal. The maintenance is excellent, it looked like new. The cleaning is OK, some the bed-sheets had black stains from some machine oil I guess. If you are not on the main road but inside the compound, it's very quiet and relaxing. The pool in the village forum is heated and not crowed in early July, we were almost alone most of the time, excellent to relax after a good walk. We were sad to leave!
Cons: May be better cleaning, but it's not a big deal, it was clean. Bad smell in the closets because of humidity, but I'm not sure they can do much about it. Again not a big deal.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location. Kitchen was well stocked. Very clean.
Cons: Didn't really like the pillows on the bed.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We enjoyed the location closer to nature and the facilities in the flat and the surroundings. Although it is locate outside Funchal it is easy to get to places.
Cons: not having a safe and not having details for the bus but once we figured out it was easy to get into Funchal.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Beautiful ocean views from all rooms.
Cons: The host accidentally showed us a two bedroom apartment in mistake. That location (Apartment model is same as ours but someone luckily booked it) offers the best views of all. I wish that the pictures of each apartment should be specific to that apartment only, not to confuse with other apartment's ones.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The accommodations were wonderful! A beautiful 2bdr/2 bath apartment with an ocean view from both bedrooms, the living room and large balcony. Very nice pool, too. We didn’t want to leave!
Cons: Please include instructions for the washing machine! We had to google the brand name to figure out how to start it!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Spacious villa and clean interior.
Cons: There were ants inside the villa. Although there weren’t many there were some in the bed etc which was annoying.
Good 7.9
Pros: The location was excellent for the view. It was good for transport the bus was always on time. It is better to have a car if you don't like climbing. We were happy that the villa that we had was very near to the swimming pool so we could use it very often and that the water was so warm. It is a lovely quiet setting better than in the tourist part.
Cons: We didn't like the climb to the villa when using the bus as we didn't hire a car because the roads are quite steep..

Excellent 9.6
Pros: A delightful little property which must be seen to be fully appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble for Steffania, who runs the place. Superb views of Funchal. We will hopefully return again next year.
Cons: The location makes it very difficult to walk to and from the centre of Funchal. However, there is a good bus service.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff, super clean, nice complementary breakfast and the view and terrasse are fantastic!! Great place to stay, quiet location up Funchal hills, great value for money. I will definitely come back there if I travel back to Madeira.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Awesome cozy place with great views. The host, Stefania, is very welcoming and helpful. Absolutely recommended!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: We have had a fabulous holiday here, Stefania makes sure her guests are happy and comfortable at all times. Nothing is too much trouble, day or night. The accommodation is small and cosy making it easy to relax. The walk down to Funchal centre is ok, gets easier as the week goes on, but there are also regular buses about 200 metres uphill from the accommodation. Highly recommended.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: It's a lovely place, with a lovely garden and very hospitable ladies that run the place. Our room was nicely decorated, very clean, with a good firm bed. Breakfast is real good, 2 kinds of bread, sereals, good coffee(or tea), some fruits. It;s just a 5 minute walk to the bus that goes straight into town. Also taxi's available at this point. Stayed for the second time and hope to come back here.
Cons: The pool could use a bit of renovating. It's still OK, but could be better. Can't think of anything else.
Good 7.5
Pros: Very good value. Friendly and helpful host. Self-service bar was very reasonably priced. Kitchen facilities very useful.
Cons: Water had to be run for a long time to get a hot shower. Location was a long way up a very steep hill from the main part of Funchal.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: It is a beautiful and well kept place.
Cons: The shower could have been warmer.
Good 7.5
Pros: The weather was good for our stay so we had breakfast outside with lovely views over Funchal. Freshly baked crispy buns good.
Cons: The property is on a very steep hill which would not suit everyone.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Stephania was a wonderful host. Very helpful and great to talk to and learn more about Funchal. Thank you !!

Excellent 9.6
Pros: I would recommend this hotel especially if you are looking for a place where you can spend some time just chilling in the swimming pool and enjoying the weather. Location is perfect, beautiful view from the roof terrace, rooms clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and professional. Plenty of space to relax by the pool and the garden next to it. There is a drinks/lunch bar next to the pool as well as pool table, sauna and spa room (spa sessions have to be pre ordered at reception). Restaurant offers delicious dinners.
Cons: My only suggestion would be to place the pool table in a room where is more place around. It is impossible to play as the pool stick does not fit around!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: View from the hotel, close to the airport, very good breakfast.
Cons: No any negative points
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Staff were friendly, nice big room which was cleaned daily. Lovely pool area.
Cons: Breakfast was very limited. Also no option to keep room on when a late flight and no courtesy room available. Had to use pool shower after being in the sun all day and covered in suntan oil and there was no hot water in the shower - very poor for a four star hotel!
Good 6.0
Pros: Nice pool at the top of the hotel with views over Funchal.
Cons: Hotel is a little tired and a good bus ride from Funchal
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Wonderful, lovely staff, hotel immaculately clean, gorgeous breakfast wonderful views across funchal.fanastic restuarent ,pool area overlooking the ocean.
Cons: N/a
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The staff at this hotel are exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. The food at their restaurant was absolutely delicious and worth the extra few Euros. We were in the newly added sections / superior rooms... The views will leave you breathless.
Cons: I can't fault this hotel in any way
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The location of the hotel is good to explore the island, nearby you can find Continente supermarket. The cleanliness of the room is also good (Im writing about modern building above the restaurant). The personal is very good. Recommend 100%.
Cons: We booked the family quadruple room with the bay view and Funchal city view, but we got the room where the view was to the wall... Room number was 308... You need a car to go around, because the hotel is about 7 km from the city center, if you dont have a car, the hotel haves their own bus that runs several times through out the day to Funchal center. And It is impossible to walk around the hotel, because it is situated on the road and there is no sidewalk on this road and usually local drivers drive too fast... very dangerous...
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Rooms are very clean and offer quite a lot of space. My room was located in new part of the hotel - Panoramic Tower - I had a beautiful view of the ocean and Funchal - magnificent during day and night. The hotel also offers a free bus to/from Funchal city center three times a day. There is also a regular bus stop in front of the hotel and during the week you can catch a bus every hour or more frequently (hotel staff provides you with the timetable for one of the companies - yellow, but you can also us the other one - red buses). Breakfasts are good. There is a restaurant which also provides good dinners. A swimming pool at the top of the hotel, and a small garden, with a scenic view and some tables to seat and relax.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Breakfasts were great, with a lot of fresh fruit. The acommodation was clean and spacious, the maid came over every day. The staff, was very helpful and there was no problem in english communication. Hotel is situated 8 minutes from the centre of Funchal, so if you're looking for quiet acommodation, I can only recommend.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: We had a beautiful room with balcony, overlooking the ocean and the Funchal bay. I recommend it, the view is stunning. Facilities are great: swimming pool, patio, private parking, etc. Finally, the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Personal suggestion: enjoy a nice traditional poncha on the pool terrace ;)
Cons: The location is not the greatest: it's not close to any "town" or small village, so you'll very often have to rely on your car. However, this is a really minor thing: this hotel is great.

Excellent 9.2
Pros: Location, clean modern room
Cons: No elevator, staff did not tell how to turn on Ahvaz so needed as white noise for windows HAD TO BE KEPT CLOSED since street noise unbearable.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff was absolutely amazing! The location was perfect
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Best location in Funchal, the hotel was very comfortable and clean. We highly recommand it.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: If you wish to exit the hotel and be right in the old quarter of Funchal ...then this may be a hotel option for you. Restaurants galore ....... Atmospheric...... Friendly people..... The esplanade is a short walk away ...as is the cable car to the Tropical and Botanical gardens (which are worth a visit). The Toboggan ride is up there too.....it's OK if just to say you've done it. We hired a car and parked it a short walk away for 6 Euros per day. With luggage that was a bit of a chore but there is another car park closer to the hotel which changes a wee bit more. On departure, we moved the car to the local car park and paid for an hour or so whilst we loaded up. Could be an issue for some travellers. The mail hotel area is adjacent to a bakery which makes some very tasty offerings some of which we had for breakfast.
Cons: Not so much "didn't like" but we were accommodated down the road from the main hotel which meant we had to walk up the road for breakfast. On the plus side ...we could then see all of the wonderfully decorated doors without all the restaurant paraphernalia restricting the views. (The restaurants clear the road every night so beware, there can be a bit of noise for a while)
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Very good location in the city center with all the shops/restaurant nearby. Easy to walk around since it's in the flat part of the city, minutes from the seaside. Bus stop to the airport less than 10 minutes by foot. Very spacious room and bathroom, typical breakfast
Cons: Noise that comes from the street, especially on a Friday/Saturday night that can last until first am. Hard to park nearby but there are a few secured parking places with reasonable prices in close walking distance.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: There is no parking and it is the direct city center so you need to pay everyday 1,6 euro per hour
Excellent 8.8
Cons: Disco nearby... So not much sleep!!!

Pros: The room is spacious and clean. It was my first time in Madeira. Veronica at the reception was very friendly and helped me in knowing the must see places in the island. She also booked the tours for me.
Cons: The breakfast had limited varieties of food, but you do not need to worry. You will always find good food wherever you go in Madeira!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: great homely feel to this hotel, good continental style breakfast. Veronica on reception was knowledgeable and friendly. Good Wifi and great restaurants in the street outside
Cons: The street outside the hotel could be a bit noisy on weekend nights

Pros: Good location, nice historical building near the public beach.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff were super friendly and helpful. Excellent location and full of character. Delicious breakfasts.
Cons: Street can be a bit noisy late at night.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Fantastic location in the old Santa Maria area just next to the church and with view to the ocean! Tasty breakfast with home made cakes and breads or from an authentic bakery! Excellent coffee and that friendly classy atmosphere matching the original style of the property! Host were friendly and very helpful as Jose gave us lift to the bus for our next destination! Close to an amazing square with good restaurants and live music. It provided us with very real feeling of the Madeira atmosphere and experience! Wish we stayed longer than 3 nights!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The most homely and welcoming guest house I have ever stayed in. Location was excellent, situated on the oldest street in Funchal, being only metres from the sea swimming pool, and many local restaurants. The house was beautiful and Grace, Cinzia and Joe treat everyone like family. One of our party was upgraded to a suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It made her holiday! Wished we could have stayed for longer.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very beautifull townhouse in the historical part of Funchal. In walking distance of the main toutistic attractions (teleferico to Monte, Mercado dos Lavradores, Museum of Natural History...). Very nice owner Grace and hosts Cynthia and Joe that make you really feel at home and give advice for good restaurants. Joe van prepare all kinds of eggs for breakfasts! Baaie dankie!
Cons: Niets
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The guesthouse is very cute, clean and comfortable. The breakfast is delicious and the employees are the best! Thank you very much. I will very likely come again.
Cons: Everything was fine. Thank you!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Views excellent with extra large very comfortable bed all within 3 minutes of old town's restaurants and a further 5 minutes to centre of Funchal. Owner and management so accommodating. Another unique property. Breakfast very good. In addition chairs table and sofa in room.
Cons: Shower a little tight for larger person and total privacy compromised by opaque screen to bathroom partition in sleeping area.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This is a superior guesthouse, make no mistake. In fact its probably one of the best ones I stayed in in all my travels at this time. The service was great, the hosts super friendly, the location perfect and the facilities were faultless and absolutely spotless. I only have good things to report about my 4 night stay here and if I ever were to stay in Funchal again I wouldn't hesitate to book again. Special mention goes to the hosts themselves who were helpful at ever turn, very friendly and had a great sense of humour. No doubt I'll see them again in the future!
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect
Excellent 10.0
Pros: It’s is a beautiful house with spacious rooms in the best location. The breakfast is fantastic and everybody makes you feel welcome and at home. A perfect base to explore Madeira, I would go back again and recommend it to anybody.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Hostess was very friendly and accommodating - we were able to check in early, she provided us great recommendations for food and beaches; breakfast was good and the house was so beautiful!

Pros: good location , near to all sights in Funchal. Helpful and friendly staff. Parking space available.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Over all my experience with the hotel is very good and it is in the central, moreover the owner of the property is very friendly and he is very flexible too.the time I confirmed my booking I received an email like what is the economic way to reach my destination and after my arrival in the hotel he guided me about the places which I can visit in short time.He is really a nice person.I would like to visit here again and again. The property was very neat and clean I must say well maintained as this place is tourist place and according to that this hotel is very economic,
Excellent 8.8
Pros: This is a family hostel with almost colonial atmosphere and the staff is really interested in you and your well-being. They are always happy to give an advice or to help. During my stay (August 2019) the residence was very quiet. After 10 p.m. the main door was locked and you have to ring a bell to have the door open. There was an iron available in an ironing room. Breakfasts were served with love. Overall you feel as if you were visiting your family in Funchal.
Cons: The cold water pressure on the upper floor was low.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Very friendly place, the staff is really helpful. I'm glad that we were there. Highly recommended!
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Well, you get what you pay. Not much, yet all you need. So no reason to complain, was all ok. The location was perfect!
Cons: The mattresses could do with a replacement.
Good 7.9
Pros: The wonderfully welcoming staff
Cons: Know Vanda
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Location - a couple of minutes' walk to some of Funchal's best restaurants. Tall airy rooms that stay naturally cool. Very friendly and honest staff. Quirky interior layout with English style furniture.
Cons: A fridge in the room would have been useful, though by no means essential.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Breakfast was enough, location was perfect, staff and Horta family was kind and helpfull. Price and performance was perfect. Next time we will definitely stay here again. Teşekkürler..
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Very kind personel. Simple but fresh and good breakfast. He had also room with balcony, where we could sit in the evenings. Available parking next to b&b. All good restaurants are couple hundred meters from accomodation.
Cons: Very small bathroom especially bath under sloping roof. Low pressure of water in the bathroom. Little bit smaller double bed than we expected approx. 140cm width

Pros: Everything was great, planning to return! Viktor at the front desk was so accommodating and helpful
Cons: Nothing. Everything was wonderful.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Great time! thanks to the professionalism and friendliness of the Sisters at reception Nice room ! Great view
Good 6.3
Pros: the bed was good. the Wifi too.
Cons: the rooms were small and old. the TV was very old. no remote in the room. the sauna and the Turkish bath was open one time during our 5 days stay. the reste of the time it was not warmed up, in the normal hours of use (5pm-8pm). the restaurant is great during the weekdays but in the weekend they did not tell us that the cook was off and we have been served a very poor menu from a novice cook. So I would not recommend to eat at the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays. The hotel claims to be a 5-star but it's more like a 3-star for the room and a 4-star for the breakfast and the restaurant.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Well managed spotless hotel with great views.
Cons: Difficult to find. Roads very narrow an mountainous. Driving stressful. Nothing within walking distance.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: If you prefer to be away from city rush and planing to explore more mountains and other attractions this place is perfect for you. However, having a car it is advisable to move around but if you do not, there is a curtesy bus which will take you down and up from the city centre.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The size of the rooms and the views from the balconies attached to the rooms
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Views were great, it was a close walk to downtown but far enough away for peace and quiet. Lots of food options within a 5 minute walk. There was a lovely church and bell tower in front of the hotel that complimented the view. Breakfast was top notch. Hotel was very nice! Would highly recommend.
Cons: Room was slightly warm even with air conditioning running
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Fell in love with this hotel & location, the quaint church we could see from our room with balcony sea view which chimed every hour, being a former manor house with original period features...loved the chandeliers in the dining area. Staff were friendly & helpful, great breakfast & evening meal. Beautiful well kept gardens & pool area..I can't praise this hotel enough. Tip ...our mattress was hard so asked for a mattress topper which made it nice and comfy.
Cons: Love this hotel & location, unfortunately when we arrived we were told our room was double booked, we were offered their sister hotel Quinta das Vistas a 5 star which we would have definitely not chosen because of location & not the sort of hotel we would chosen, the hotel was also dead at night. We were given a suite which was great but didn't compensate us at all even with a free evening meal with one glass of house wine which wasn't good, the only choice we had with the 3 course meal was mains meat or fish. We had to put in a voucher for our meal so immediately felt like paupers! The location of the hotel was not suitable for walking to or from the town due to very steep roads with no footpaths so had to use taxi's, we are both in our 60s. We were very upset & this had ruined our holiday. After 3/4 emails complaining we eventually were offered the room of our choice at Quinta Bela Sao Tiago, after they had offered us free taxi's & a massage at the 5 * but we just wanted to stay in the hotel we had booked which is such a lovely period hotel. I initially agreed to this then burst into tears as this still didn't compensate us for the hotel we had chosen,, this was our first visit to Madeira we were so looking forward to visiting the beautiful island & especially being in a hotel within walking distance to the old town. They shouldn't treat people like this, the whole experience was very upsetting.
Good 7.5
Pros: Lovely staff at check in. Very helpful. Nice pool. Cheap cocktails.
Cons: We had cockroaches in our room and it was treated as if this was normal in Madeira.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Nice big rooms and balcony.
Cons: Smoking is allowed on balcony, both sides to us smoked and we had their horrid smoke!
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Excellent breakfast, very good location near to town and very close to restaurants but quiet. Fantastic view from sea-facing rooms higher up. Large terraces facing the sea. Going back to this hotel again. I think it's much more convenient to stay here than in the "hotel district" on the other side of town which feels rather overcrowded with huge hotels.
Cons: Bit odd to charge for coffee in the room and to have a charge to use the safe in the room - you expect that to be there for free.
Good 7.5
Pros: Reception’s staff very kind and helpful
Cons: Breakfast not as good as expected in a 4* hotel
Good 6.7
Pros: Very comfort and large rooms. Nice restaurant and bar.
Cons: The room Was too close to reception and a bit noisier during all day. The balcony was in front of a deck so there was no privacy. Very weird energy remote control.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Good location, large very clean room and very friendly staff
Cons: Nothing really
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Breakfast was good, hotel was classic and restful
Cons: No information on arrival on how to get into the hotel in the evening after all gates were closed - which was fairly early in the evening.

Pros: good location
Cons: room was dirty, dripping water from ceiling in bathroom, cheap breakfast, sheets smelled like smoke
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Perfect location. Nice, old-fashioned feel. Excellent balconies. Great value for the money.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Its a Good hotel, good service and comfortable
Cons: No thing
Excellent 9.2
Pros: It is really awesome if you are travelling in the night as the check-in is aviable 24/7 and it is so close to the bus stop number 3 from the airport. The staff was nice and the room was clean.
Cons: The furniture is a bit too old, but otherwise everything is fine.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: It is situated in an ideal location close to shopping centre, market and loads of restaurants and cafes. Madeira is a very steep but this hotel is only on a slight incline so suitable for everyone. For the money you can’t go wrong, it is what it is, but run down but clean. The staff are very helpful and make you feel welcome each time you leave and pick up your key. The breakfast is only either a roll with jam or cheese triangle or cornflakes, but your a short walk to local outlets if you want more. It’s not 5star it’s £22 a night so for that money you can’t go wrong.
Cons: A little tired, could do with a bit of a revamp, painting etc
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The location is great as there are buses to everywhere in madiera within walking distance
Excellent 9.2
Pros: This is a very humble hostel, with a very kind staff. Our room had a very nice area and was quite clean. The location is great, being very close to the Funchal center, and the surrounding areas are quite safe.
Cons: Despite the very clean appearance, the residential is already in need of some maintenance. Breakfast could be more interesting, adding some fruit or yogurts, for example. Or even some traditional/homemade cakes
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Perfect location, great service
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Frienly people at the reception desk.

Cons: A little far away if you don't have a self transportation
Good 6.7
Cons: It was my third time in this hostel. The hostel has a new owner now. And I have to say I'm really dissapointed. The first problem was with type of the room. I've booked twin room then I came and they told me that this room is occupied by someone else. As a solution we had to stay 1 night in double and second day move to twin. One girl on the reception doesnt speak english at all and second one told me is her day off and it seemed to me like she doesnt care to much about it. Another problem with payment. They charged me twice from my credit card. Ok it happens sometimes. But I think manager should fix it as soon as possible. The way of communication with manager is very unformal and unprofessional. Some promises that he will send my money back until the end of the week, then when he will come back from holiday or whatever. In the end I had to contact booking support and I still dont have my money back and it's already one month from my stay there.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: The staff ( Tatjana) is very friendly and helpfully. The breakfast is very good with good coffee. The distance to the old town is good, 30 minutes to walk or by bus. Some people should think about, that they are in a Hostel and not in a Hotel. To stay 9 days including breakfast for 63€ is the best price since long time.
Cons: The manager should have an eye on those things which should be repared: some chairs outside should be changed. The manager should see himself that a shower-holder must be changed not the guest. The garden outside could be a small paradise.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: 20 minutes to the center
Excellent 8.3
Pros: The view and the breakfast are amazing on that place. You can enjoy blue Atlantic in front of you. Cleaning ladies are also awesome, they can provide you any info you need.
Cons: Manager is bad with English, it looks like he learned few sentences and he just repeat them.
Mediocre 3.8
Pros: Definitely a cheap place in a non-tourist area of the town, if you don't like overcrowded places. Free parking and a nice walking distance to the city centre.
Cons: Nobody was there to help us check-in, we had to find out a way to get in there by ourselves because none would answer any of the phones. We booked with months of advance and the best room they offered us was a room in the basement with a broken closet. You really pay for what you get. Also, watch out for the cockroaches!
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable room, good price
Cons: lack of hot water
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Located in the walking distance from the center of Funchal. Quiet and roomy house.
Cons: I do not speak Portuguese, so it was not easy to arrange the check-in on site. But after a phone call with the owner, everything was clear:-)
Good 7.5
Pros: Price was ok for quality :)
Cons: We got not the room we booked. We paid for two different rooms but got both the same. We paid for one 9€ extra per night to get one big bed, but got two separate... Couldn"t explain it for lady because she doesn't speak english and after that we didn't see her for whole day.
Good 7.9
Pros: good place, just some annoying people who stayed over, but thats not a fault of the hostel
Cons: bit too far form the city center
