Pros: Very clean, lovely decor and facilities. Moderately equipped kitchen (no pans or stove top which would be good), large comfortable bed, spacious, with a patio area. We arrived early and could check in well before the usual 2pm which was appreciated.
Cons: No air conditioning. My partner and I couldn’t sleep very well as it was so hot. A fan was provided but it only pushed hot air around the room. The motel is really really good and this is the only thing letting it down.

Cons: The staff!! I supposedly booked for only 2 adults on booking.com and I booked a room with a double bed and a single bed. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. On checkout, the staff member asked me if I had any extras and I said no, and he says well you had 2 extra kids in your room and you only declared 2 adults on your booking so I'll charge you extra for them!!! 2 weeks prior, I emailed him and ask if he could provide a cot!! Common sense would have said oh a baby is going to be in the room. My baby ended up sleeping on the floor in a make shift bed and I was charged for this!!! The staff member then said they do not cater for children!! SO IF YOU HAVE KIDS, DO NOT STAY HERE!! It is stressful enough as it is travelling with young children, then I have to hear this BS from this guy on checkout. BTW, he saw me with my kids numerous times during the stay and never said a word. Do not stay here is my recommendation. He completely ruined my day and my stay in Dunedin!!!

Pros: I am so pleased that we stayed three nights! Why? From the minute we arrived, every single staff member did his or her very best to help ensure that our stay was a happy one. We have been travelling around in a rental car - it was valet parked for us, and parked right outside when we next needed it. The room was beautifully appointed, and the washing machine and dryer were a welcome inclusion in the bathroom. And what a wonderful view from the lift!

Pros: We have stayed here several times over the last 20 years and always found it a pleasant stay with good facilities. We couldn't have stayed for a while so were surprised? a bit taken back? to be charged $18 to park the car for the night. Staff were all okay although we felt that maybe the hotel was `quiet' and they didn't seem as enthusiastic and happy as previous visits. We know it was a Monday night but we were the only ones in the bar and the menu didn't `grab' us plus it was cold, so instead of dining on our own we went upstairs to the Casino where it was warmer and busier and had an interesting and varied menu. Might check out other options in the future as it is getting up in price now.

The sofa in TV lounge area old and not comfortable. Furniture and drapes old for a Suite. The parking extremely frustrating, carpark awkwardly tight between reserved parks. Difficult to get gear out of car when no space on either side of parked vehicles, I had to reverse out to let driver get out of vehicle parked beside my car - no room for her to open her door. Entry to Hotel reception is on the single lane drive through, with check in vehicles sharing lane with guests wheeling their bags into the Hotel, have to walk on drive, no pedestrian path.

Pros: The location of Wain's Hotel is excellent. On one of the main streets in the centre of the city, it is only a few minutes' walk away from the Octagon, which seems to be the social centre of Dunedin, and from many of the tourist attractions of the city. Staff were courteous and helpful.

Cons: it is a lovely old Victorian era hotel but unfortunately its beautiful facade was obscured by scaffolding due to ongoing renovations.

Cons: Toilet was gurgling and leaking a lot of water around the floor (yuck), bath inner surround was dirty, no shelf to put soap shampoo etc in shower, hairdryer cord a wee bit short, one light fixture in room was broken and falling off wall, blanket on end of bed had a big stain on it (yuck), no historical reference inside room (eg historical photos of interest on Wains Hotel history rather than lame art that has no connection to Hotel), carpet was very stained (yuck), NO decent TV eg freeview etc only basic channels. This room would be better suited to one bed placed where the TV etc is now and needs to be changed around, update colour scheme to more neutral modern, new art work etc - make this into one adult room with bedside tables each side and place coat hanging facilities and small cabinet at door entry behind door. TV cabinet, fridge etc should be place all along the wall (where beds are now) as one complete tidy unit so it all feels like a real hotel for one or two adults.

Cons: The website claimed the hotel was almost entirely fully furnished. So when I booked online it showed we were staying in a new refurbished room - WRONG. The entire hotel was covered in scaffolding. The life was a manual lift that took us to our room which was incredibly old and outdated. The ads online are a total lie. None of the hotel has been done up. Don’t get sucked in like we did.

Pros: The room had everything in it that was needed, and it was great to have parking opposite the hotel.
Cons: The blankets in the room had a hole in them. The wallpaper was lifting. the inside of the shower was worn and the show floor warped so when you moved it made a noise. The bunk was flimsy and moved when we did The carpet had been torn and there was a hole in it.

Cons: Shoe box size rooms. Worst breakfast. Had a very limited choice and that too were over by 8 am. The hotel has some paranormal activity as advertised by the hotel on their website. No fridge in the room. The tv was at an angle that was hard to watch on the bed.
