They are terribly understaffed and everyone is in one small area for all of the rental agencies so there’s no clear distinction if it is crowded and you may end up getting in the wrong line. Opt to pay extra money to belong to a club that lets you walk up and have a quick check in.

I live in the Myrtle Beach area, but my car would not hold as many people as we needed it it to hold so that’s why we rented the van.

Do not rent with Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar. Your only other option on site is Budget/Avis. It always takes forever to get you bags at Myrtle Beach International Airport. Go to the rental car counter first to get your car then go collect your bags.

Looking to pick up a hire car after landing in Myrtle Beach? For travelers with flights to Myrtle Beach International Airport, you will find the hire car desks in the lobby of the main terminal, while the hire car lots are just adjacent to the airport.
Rainy season lasts from June to November, so drivers unused to strong rainstorms may want to be cautious if they are on the road during a storm. In general, the weather is not too much of a problem, but there is the occasional tropical storm that does come through. During such storms, it is best to wait out the weather because hydroplaning can be a worry.
Want to make the most out of your time in Myrtle Beach? Then make sure to rent a car. Myrtle Beach, like many cities in the U.S., was designed with cars in mind. While there is a trolley in the city, if you plan on visiting anything outside of the downtown core, you will need a vehicle. For instance, if you plan on taking a trip to some of the neighboring beaches like North Myrtle Beach, it is just a simple drive away -- assuming you’ve rented a car.
Myrtle Beach, though not the largest of cities, certainly has its fair share of traffic woes. Luckily for drivers, these traffic problems are largely confined to two primary rush hours in the morning and afternoon: from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. During those hours, the 501 in particular can become backed up and congested, as it runs through the center of Myrtle Beach and is one of the major outlets of the city.

Pick up and drop off were great. Employees were friendly and helpful. However, the vehicle had a tremendous number of scratches (even a big one on the roof)! The car should have been repaired and not continued in service. Even the employee who looked at it was amazed and actually had me take a photo of his written remarks on his evaluation sheet to be sure I won't have any problems when I returned the car.

I am glad to have received no extra charge for upgrade and added driver. Vehicle was adequate and ran great. Only concern was that when I checked in to receive the car, the agent wanted to sell me their insurance but I had third-party insurance. She said that if something happened they'd charge my personal vehicle insurance and I'd have to get reimbursement from the third party insurance on my own. I felt that was an unnecessary threat and a way to push me to purchase the Avis insurance. Otherwise, everything went smoothly.

There was no line at the pickup counter, I was helped immediately and the woman was so kind. We walked to our van which was clean and ready to go. No issues throughout the week, and returning the rental was a breeze. I just pulled in, parked, and since there was a line of returning vehicles the man told me to leave the keys on the dash and I would get a text later. That was it! Smooth, quick, easy. Staff was very nice. Car was very new & rode nice & smooth. The only things that were not up to par was that there were no notes in Thrifty’s system about existing dents & scratches so we had to meticulously go over the car for any damage before leaving the lot. And the exterior of the car was not fully cleaned. Bugs on windshield & nose of car. Interior was very clean.

2.0 Poor

Anonymous, Oct 2022

I was charged an extra $59 because I used a debit card. I was told that because I had a debit card and not cc they had to physically speak to my insurance agent...at 6pm on a Saturday. They would not accept my insurance information or declaration page either. Very disappointed, will never use again.
