Baltimore hotels near Center Stage

Pros: This hotel has a great location and friendly staff. It has a nice, old-fashioned feel which gives it a romantic quality for the price. The decor and furniture are attractive and classic, albeit a bit shabby when examined closely. We were particularly impressed with the bathroom in our corner room,which was filled with marble tiles and a towel warmer. Everything was clean and pleasant. The bar/restaurant attached is a nice place for cocktails as well, especially as a warm-up for a night out in the wonderful area of Mt. Vernon. This neighborhood is desirable for those from out of town, and this hotel provided good prices and an overall pleasant stay.

Cons: Parking can be an issue; they have valet service (for between $20-$35) that I recommend to anyone not familiar with the neighborhood (we had lived around the corner years before, so knew how to find good parking sports). Additionally, we were staying during an extremely cold (below average temperatures) weekend, and found everything to be a little chilly. On top, we found that the bed was made with only three small pillows and a thin blanket (fine for one person, but there were two of us). When we asked for an extra blanket and pillows later that night, the front desk sadly informed us that they had run out due to a high demand of requests. While they were very sorry, it does seem strange that they had dressed the bed in so few pillows and blankets to begin with, though I understand the need to go for a more minimalist approach in order to conserve energy, etc (and do respect that).

Pros: Very lovely place, excellent location. Staff was helpful

Cons: Bedding was great whne we arrived, but we did find leftover food in the fridge from the previous guests which made us a little wary of using the tub because we weren't sure how thorough the cleaning was

Cons: The reception was rude, we wanted to get food in the middle of the night but there was no one in the building working to suggest any thing to us.

Pros: Really nice hotel - we were given a larvger room, which was very clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly. The only thing is valet parking was $30 - NYC pricing... Around the corner parking lot was $10- should have parked my car there overnight.

Cons: Hotel is old and well-worn - in desperate need of a rehab. Despite the Joie de Vivre name, the desk clerk on our arrival was decidedly not happy. We booked a two-bed room and got a king with a too-short foldaway cot, and on one of the coldest days of the year they did not have any spare blankets, so we were given three sheets instead. For $80 a night it would have been ok - for twice that, it was a ripoff.

Pros: Due to an error in receiving my reservation information from a third party booking agency, the were no available rooms of the type I had reserved. So, the hotel was forced to give me a nicer room at the same rate. The room was a bit dated, but the jetted tub and sitting area were very nice. While the front desk staff and valet seemed to lack professionalism, the staff at the hotel bar were quite welcoming and friendly.

Cons: When the desk clerk could not locate information on my reservation, she told me to have a seat nearby while she looked for my reservation elsewhere. When she still couldn't find it, she shouted to me across the lobby that her GM said she can't let me into a room until she got the payment details from Kayak and that I had to call Kayak to resolve the issue. I guess asking me to step up to the desk to discuss my situation or calling Kayak herself was too much trouble. While I called Kayak customer service to attempt to resolve the issue, other guests arrived to check in. As a result, the only clerk working the front desk was busy and could not speak with the Kayak representative I had on my cell phone and they had to call the clerk at the hotel a while later to attempt to resolve the issue. While I sat at the lobby waiting for Kayak to call the desk clerk, a hotel valet came to the front desk and used the phone there to loudly order food for himself and the desk clerk from a local restaurant. And then he proceeded to argue with the restaurant about it giving a discount to hotel employees. Not only was this inappropriate business to conduct at the front desk, but I'm left wondering why the front desk clerk has time to tell the valet what she wants to eat, but she can't call Kayak to attempt to resolve the issue with my room. Once the desk clerk spoke with someone from Kayak, she again shouted to me across the lobby about the status of the issue. She said they needed to fax her the information again. After waiting another 5-10 minutes, I approached the desk and asked if she had received the information she needed yet. She said no and walked away from me to FINALLY check the fax machine. Lo and behold, the information she needed was there and she checked me into my room with barely a perfunctory apology for the delay. She also made sure to tell me the issue was that the Kayak third party service provider handling my reservation had the wrong fax number for the hotel so the issue was really someone else's fault. I guess this hotel is nice enough for the price if you don't have any issues with which you need any customer service. But if there is the slightest issue, or you just stick around the lobby for a little while, you'll see that the staff really doesn't seem to have much training on professionalism. I was pretty disappointed by the experience.

Pros: The hotel felt classy and luxurious. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The valet service was prompt and careful. Great stay. Lovely location. Very clean. Great view. Good deal through Kayak.

Cons: The bed was way too hard for my personal preference and comfort. Shower could have used a little updating, but the pressure and temperature were perfect.

Cons: Horrible customer service! Tons of attitude and talking back. I stayed there for 5 nights, and my room wasn't cleaned at all 2 days out of those. The front desk lady told me in the end of the day that it wasn't her job to clean, that all the cleaning stuff was out for the day, and that there was no manager I could talk to on premises. She told me to just suck it up and wait till the next day (I am not exaggerating !). When I asked her if cleaning services were supposed to be included in my daily room charges, she said yes. Then there was the ongoing issue with them not replenishing toiletries at all even so that was also included in the daily room charges. All and all, this could of been a great hotel if all the front desk staff was replaced or retrained

Pros: Bar is great with wonderful happy hour foods Quiet, nice king bed on 12th floor Uber taxi to Johns Hopkins for $5 Excellent location Great rate thru Kayak Park for $12 a day a block or two away.

Pros: The room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was beautiful and had amenities like a towel warmer and an overhead heat lamp. The hotel was in a great location in the heart of Mt Vernon - I could see the Washington Monument from my window. Housekeeping was very accommodating to our schedule and left the room pristine.

Cons: To preface this review, I stayed at the Wyndham for a total of 6 nights. The WIFI worked about half the time, which was detrimental because I was in Baltimore to take intensive courses at JHU and couldn't do my homework in the room. The staff blamed it on the windy weather, but it was such a huge inconvenience. My keycard also failed to work more than half the time, which was another annoyance. The front desk also overcharged me for "incidentals," a total of $115. They charge $50/day up to 2 days, which should only have come up to $100, so where did that extra $15 come from? They were pleasant enough about it, and corrected it accordingly, but I warn future guests to double check their transactions. Also, the fridge in the room wouldn't get cold even though it was plugged in, and the microwave emitted a scary burning smell when used. Finally, I stopped by IN PERSON the day before my check-in to request an extension of my check-out time from 11am to 2pm, and they happily obliged. Then, the night before my check-out date, I called down to the front desk to confirm and they claimed that they were overbooked and can only extend my check-out time to 12pm. When I let them know I made the request prior to check-in, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. They were kind enough to offer to store my luggage, but again, an inconvenience. Overall, my stay was mediocre due to the faulty amenities, but the staff was gracious and polite about everything. Still, I don't think I would stay here again.

Pros: I loved how welcomed I felt by the staff. The building is beautiful in a historic part of town. George's restaurant has a great Maryland crab Benedict.

Cons: No family-oriented amenities.

Pros: The hotel was wonderful I had a great experience it was clean his staff was courteous and I love the Environment it definitely will be a place that I come back to

Cons: The only thing that didn’t like about the hotel was they charge a $90 incidental fee to my credit card now I was staying when a free reward night so I will assume that I didn’t necessarily need any money most hotels that have stayed it have charge no more than $50 but I found it kind of funny that a hotel charge almost $100 for incidental when you have free breakfast and everything else with friends I would definitely say that incidental fees can determine a customers from went to stay at a hotel even if everything else was nice just because you have to spend a lot of money upfront put some type of hold her your credit card the text away for money spent for entertainment

Pros: Loved everything about this hotel. Will come back every time I come to visit my daughter here in college.

Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and helped to make everything about my stay as convenient as possible. The interior, ambiance, decor and architecture were beautiful and opulent. The location to the harbor was awesome and just enough out of the way to not seem like I was on top of everything. I was not disturbed once by housekeeping when I was in my room. For the prices I paid it was definitely worth it. I didn't have a microwave or refrigerator inn my room which I think should be standard in all rooms. Out was hard for nude to keep drinks and left over food or snacks cold and I had to go downstairs to heat up my food. They accommodated more when and I asked for early check in because I arrived earlier then I planned. I also like that check out is at noon and not earlier and they didn't rush me to leave past noon. The bed was super comfortable, one of the best I've ever slept in. I liked that they had a little store also because my allergies were acting up and I was able to get meds. The free breakfast in the morning was very delicious. Also free coffee 24/7 was very nice. I would like them to provide free water bottles also. The complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were all name brand which I think is important and appreciated.the only real gripe I have is the elevator. There was only 1 for my side of the building. It took awhile sometimes but that's hardly a big deal. All in all I would stay there again. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. They also had a really beautiful outdoor patio with a fire pit but I did not partake. I also never knew if there was a pool and I would have used it I've I had a longer and not so busy stay. If they don't have one they should. I can't wait to stay there again.

Cons: TV remote didn't work, wall hanging was missing in the room above the desk, and it was obvious. Food for breakfast wasn't really that good.

Pros: The breakfast buffet was large and clean. Fresh options and heavier breakfast items both offered. The oatmeal and juice bar were a nice surprise. All the employees were very friendly and helpful.

Cons: Unfortunately there was road construction outside the hotel and only being on the fifth floor, it was easy to hear.

Pros: We loved how close it was in walking distance to the inner harbor. The breakfast was fantastic! We loved our stay. The staff was so nice, and the hotel was beautiful.

Cons: Just that we were in a room near the elevator which isn't ideal when you are trying to put little ones to bed early, but that is an easy fix of just requesting a room away from there.

Pros: Room was a suite so it was large and comfortable, Windows on two sides of the room. Bed was comfortable. Two types of pillows to choose from. Hotel breakfast was hot, pre-prepared food; pretty good selection. TV rotated to face bed or couch. Good sized closet with ample hangers. Safety bars in two locations on the tub. Sink with large mirror in the suite (wet bar) which gave another place to put on make-up or place personal items other than the bathroom. Elevators responded quickly. Easy walk to several restaurants.

Cons: I called the hotel to make the reservation because we needed a walk-in shower. My husband had knee surgery and would have difficulty stepping over the edge of a tub. We were told this room would have a walk-in tub. It did not. We managed but I was disappointed because we paid more for this room to get that feature. Water in the tub was very hard to regulate...either blistering hot or ice cold. It was very hard to find the spot that made the water "warm". No safe for valuables.

Pros: I was attending a conference for most of the trip, and my partner also joined to check out local sites. It was a decent location within walking distance to a number of good restaurants and museums.

Cons: The room was somewhat small and the floor appeared to not have been vacuumed in a while (as noted by the dozens of small beads that were from a bracelet of a former inhabitant). I find the sliding bathroom door to be somewhat unusual since it didn't allow for privacy in the slightest. Lastly, we had to go to the front desk once a day to get the room key cards re-magnetized, so that we could enter the elevator to the room and our room.

Cons: Our room keys for some reason kept giving errors, they would alternate so we would have at least one working key at any given time. So the staff was very used to seeing us.

Cons: Not a great experience. Employees was not very welcoming. Checking in the first thing the young man said I don’t see your reservation. I had to pull up my confirmation number. Thank God I had available. Rooms was ok with a low quality thin comforter. There was no extra blanket. All hotels I stayed always had extra blanket in pillow. Lastly parked my car with valet parking for 40 bucks a night. when it was time to retrieve it took over 40 minutes to come. They could not find my car keys. I would not recommend this location or stay here again.

Cons: I had booked a deluxe king room and prepaid. When I arrived I was told that there were no more deluxe king rooms available and the only room available had two beds and bunk beds. Confused I showed the gentleman behind the desk my conformation with room type and he told me that there was no guarantee on room type. He was rude and said thats all they had and if I didn't want it I could stay somewhere else. When I got into the room, there was an entire wall with a dog mural staring at me. The room wasn't clean, carpet dirty, hair in sink, then I walked into the bedroom and it is the strangest decor I have ever seen. Hip doesn't mean nothing matches and the most unattractive color palate ever! The furniture was visibly beat up, scratched and marks all over. The wall had multiple black marks all over and the toilet was running. I put my things down and headed to the front desk before leaving for dinner to advise them of the running toilet. Upon my return 2 hours later, as I opened the door to my room and the toilet was still running and I went to call the desk. My room was facing the the windows of other hotel rooms and I found myself rushing to close the curtains because a man across the way was watching me and being "self serving" - not the hotels fault, I know, but very creepy none the less. I wet down to the desk to ask about my toilet and the new gentleman at the desk said he had no record of my earlier complaint and there was no one from engineering to be able to fix it. I asked for another room and he said there weren't any, so I went upstairs and promptly checked out at 12:30 am, off to find another hotel. I asked not to be charged, but since I had prepaid, he said there was nothing he could do.

Pros: The staff were great - so friendly and helpful. The hotel room was clean and beautiful, and very unique. Awesome shower, and overall we loved it.

Pros: Very helpful staff, great, clean and cozy room. We appreciated the rollaway, which was really far beyond the cot-like thing we had sort of expected (we added another person to the room after making the reservation, so knew it would be tight). We really appreciated the help with that and with extra toothpaste/brush. Thankful that quality is always high across any Kimpton hotels I've stayed at.

Cons: It seemed like it would have been helpful if there were more staff on-hand at peak times for check-in, etc. Staff was great and helpful, but having worked at a front desk, this one seemed like it could have benefited from a few more people.

Pros: Upon check in, Ashlie greeted us and made sure we were well taken care of. Our West Point cadet was to meet us and she saw to it that he would not have to sleep on the ground as wel were previously told by front desk when I previously called. A big hug to Ashlie for being so kind and making our stay very comfortable and easy.

Cons: We asked twice to have our room made up. It was never done. Everyone was nice - just not very organized I guess?

Pros: Conveniently located to the convention center and the inner harbor. Nicely renovated historic hotel with a feel of the past but has updated features. Beds were super comfortable and bathrooms well equipped. We felt everything we wanted was available. Staff was super friendly too.

Cons: While the area is convenient it is located around the corner from a sketchy part of town. Also the decor is dark for our taste... it would benefit from lighter colors or brighter lights. Lovely lobby and lobby bar.

Cons: Phone in room didn't function fully. This was not addressed. Puts $50 per day on CC for incidentals. This is posted, but wasn't brought to my attention when CC was taken.

Pros: Very beautiful hotel and lobby. Very friendly staff and convenience of valet parking. Within walking distance of inner harbor.

Cons: Street noise at night was hard to get used to if you are not used to nighttime noise.

Cons: I was Here on business and went outside for a smoke break and in the middle of the night a few black men tried and rob me and I tried to defend myself and I was latterly jumped by a group and there was no one at the hotel that helped me . I can't believe they would allow such horrible activities and behavior in front of the hotel with no one there willing to help protect their customers. And than I asked for a security tape to see why and how it all happen and their response was they know nothing. How can you let such hateful and violent things happen as letting your customers get hurt and no one there to help protect the people who stay at the hotel. I see the staff and people at the hotel can care less what happens at the hotel or outside their front door. I can't believed they had the nerves to tell me I'm still being charged for the room for 3 days after the same night I showed up I was in the emergency room till the next morning and they had the nerve to still charge me . I see the hotel people can care less what happens there as long as they get their money . How can the hotel let such horrific things happen in their presence and expect for people to feel comfortable renting a room there . That's the worst experience I've ever endured staying at a hotel. I was in the emergency room with a broken nose and broken rib cage and no one wanted to help me . They practically just looked the other way. If that's how hotels operate and let their customers get hurt and possible killed than I will never rent and or be a client for that hotel ever .

Pros: As others have described, surrounding neighborhood not the best. But very clean, comfortable room. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Shuttle service was a nice feature, as well as complimentary breakfast in the morning. Overall, good value for the price point.
