Pros: Pro- Me and my wife recently stayed here for our honeymoon. We love the vibe of the place and the staff was lovely. It is right by the viaduct harbour and the ferry terminal and is pretty close to queen street also. Cons- Roadworks outside can be a bit of nuisance.

Pros: We loved the location, and the friendliness of most of the staff, particularly the excellent greeting and personalised attention on checking in.
Cons: We booked and pre paid for a “boutique suite” described as a spacious suite with a separate living area, 35 to 45 square metres. Breakfast was included in the rate. What we got was probably at the bottom end of the room area scale, very little circulation space around the bed, the separate living area was essentially a corridor with a small desk and couch leading from the front door to the bedroom. The “indicative” floor plan for this type of room, which is what we used to select this hotel was nothing like what we got. Web site photos are deceiving with the wide angle shots. There was no view to speak of. The included breakfast was a very basic continental breakfast, a la carte. Hot dishes were an extra charge. Service in the breakfast area was a bit hit and miss. The shower leaked in the bathroom, the design allowed water to leak under the shower screen and into the adjacent toilet enclosure. Towels fixed the problem, but for a hotel of this price bracket, this is not great. The design could be Art Deco, not sure, but it failed to impress. If anyone is booking this please enquire about the room you are booking to ensure you get what you expect.

There are not really good views despite the location. We paid for a water/harbor view, but it was really a city view with view of a boat. Most of the rooms look either onto the city, other rooms or over the street and businesses across the street. Seems like at least the restaurant should be located where it has great views - but it has no views, unless you sit outside.

The pool area was a total disappointment, very small pool, only 3 recliner seats, no other seating at all. On top of that, it was very loud, as a few kids were playing in the pool, and the whole area was wet.

Cons: Only one person at reception which resulted in a wait to check in until another person came out to assist, Cot was in room and I had to call room service to take away cot and also assist in working out how to operate the TV. I paid $250 a night, it would have been a lot cheaper if I had booked later because hotel was very quiet due to the corona virus. Car parking costs $35 every time you exit the car park.

Cons: On arriving at reception, I felt the receptionist did not over extend themselves with information, as this was a first stay for my family. An example was where and which floor was breakfast as this was inclusive in the stay, what were the times and the last morning we were there it shut 1/2 an hour early and missed breakfast. I got more local information from the man who delivered the bags to our room. The staff were polite and professional but lacked the Christmas Spirit a "Merry Christmas" greeting on the day would have been welcoming. On arriving to our rooms the temp was 28 degrees - quite unbearable! knowing the room was booked it would have been nice to have the air condition on.

Cons: When we first checked in, the front desk Asian girl seemed a bit arrogant and didn't want to hear about our needs. The room was a good size, but was very smelly, dirty, and outdated. The bed mattress was horribly soft, we had to use extra pillows to lay on. The view and location were the only positive things. Fortunately, we didn't have to spend too much time in the room. Visiting this hotel should be your last resort and should not be called the Grand Windsor.

Views of the city slightly occluded by arrival of cruise liner but we enjoyed the activities of ships, tourist boats and many yachts including classic gaff riggers. I was contacted by the Hotel prior to arrived to warn me of the Cruise ship, but views from our room was only marginally affected. The staff were all very friendly, particularly the parking valet and receptionists. We also enjoyed an excellent lunch. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent. There are many excellent bars and restaurants along the west side of the wharf.

Cons: Nothing material. Save for the fact that I was surprised that a property of this size/standard didn't have a sauna and/or steam room facility. I did think the gym was adequate and the pool and area was a nice to have.. I didn't like the fact that families with young children are allowed to roam the bar area unsupervised in the early evening...or at least this was our experience on the one night we chose to have drinks and eat a light supper downstairs.

Cons: We booked this hotel for New Years Eve in Auckland. Besides being overpriced for the night in question, they charge ridiculous valet fees, put us in a handicap room with no bathtub, horrible view, and construction all around, put bacon on my Ceaser salad after I specifically said I was a vegetarian, brought the salad on filthy plates covered in chocolate from what I can only assume was the previous meal. Upon checkout no one even bothered to ask how my stay was. I asked for a manager and voiced my complaints. No attempt was made to remedy the situation.

Cons: -Nothing special about the desk/ reception staff. Not welcoming. Just didn't seem to care. Stereotypical employees who are only there for the paycheque, doing the bare minimum in terms of customer service to keep their jobs. I received better customer service from the cleaning staff.. how that makes sense I don't know. Little bit of a reorganization at that facility is in order. I'd be more inclined to return if I was greeted and managed by a cleaning staff member. What a joke. Also poor English by some of the reception staff. I have no issue with ESL but for a receptionist at a hostel.. c'mon.. lol.
-Small kitchen. I am not joking when I say that there was a line-up for hostel clients standing outside the kitchen to cook and clean. Couldn't believe some clients were cooking up 3 course meals. You're in a hostel.. ramen with veggies then gtfo.
-Strangest client base. I'm not quite into my 30s yet, couple years to go, and I feel old staying in a hostel. There were groups of 5-6, likely the same family, all of which were in their mid to late 40s. In have 0 problem with a diverse crowd at a hostel, and this is just to warn any future goers that if your uncomfortable sharing a dorm or facility with a 40yr man with a beard then I'd avoid.
-Poor lounge layout for meeting others. Environment was very cold. Would not recommend if you're travelling solo and looking to meet other people.
-Clients have to pay for Wi-Fi. And it's not a flat daily rates it's based on the number of MBs or GBs you can afford. It was something around $30 for 10GB.
-First and last hostel I stayed in while in Auckland. My recommendation is to only choose this location as a last resort if your preferred choice is unavailable. At least it was clean and comfortable.

Pros: Initially when we arrived the reception wasn't great. After travelling nearly 4 hours with my mother,sister and children I was exhausted. My interactions with management wasn't pleasant. Disagreement insued and manager was going to refund my room. At this point I needed a rest so I insisted that we stay to which he handed keys over. As my family an I were taking our luggage to our room we got stuck in the elevator and remained there for a hour before we were rescued. This was a scary experience for my whole family. I was livid. I asked if we'd be compensated to which the manager told me to take rest and he will sort this out later. After 2 hours I went down and was greeted by one of his amazing staff who was so great. I was offered 2x free parking and breakfast vouchers for all 5 of us. I thought that this was great, besides what initially happened earlier the hotel did take care of us and the room was amazing. Clean. Spacious. Beautiful. Lovely scenery. Easy access to everywhere in the city. My family and I were very impressed and the breakfast was AMAZING!! Cooked to perfection. I would reccomend this place. My advice though.. dont use the lift lol. Over all. Great place to stay.

He took my bitten arm photos and called the manager and the management assured that I will be not charged, but unbelievably later on the hotel charged for the room. It was the worst experience.

Pros: Initially when we arrived the reception wasn't great. After travelling nearly 4 hours with my mother,sister and children I was exhausted. My interactions with management wasn't pleasant. Disagreement insued and manager was going to refund my room. At this point I needed a rest so I insisted that we stay to which he handed keys over. As my family an I were taking our luggage to our room we got stuck in the elevator and remained there for a hour before we were rescued. This was a scary experience for my whole family. I was livid. I asked if we'd be compensated to which the manager told me to take rest and he will sort this out later. After 2 hours I went down and was greeted by one of his amazing staff who was so great. I was offered 2x free parking and breakfast vouchers for all 5 of us. I thought that this was great, besides what initially happened earlier the hotel did take care of us and the room was amazing. Clean. Spacious. Beautiful. Lovely scenery. Easy access to everywhere in the city. My family and I were very impressed and the breakfast was AMAZING!! Cooked to perfection. I would reccomend this place. My advice though.. dont use the lift lol. Over all. Great place to stay.

Cons: -The reception was slow and made you feel like an inconvenience. They moved my room many times and I had to return for a new pin to my room on 3 different occasions because it kept resetting. The lines were out the door to get help at times. -The bedrooms had very little plugs, were not noise proof, and the storage containers were damaged and difficult to use. -The bathrooms were rubbish, with half of the facilities out of order and out of toilet paper half the time. Inconsistent water pressure and temperature between showers. Only one soap dispenser for 4 sinks, which sprayed on you. There was a ceiling drip over one of the toilets that would splash on you, gross! (see picture) -The laundry facility was a mess, lint everywhere and piles of clothes. -The location was loud within the city, very hard to get any adequate rest. Lots of homeless people that would harass you when you entered and left the building, I didn't feel very safe returning at night. -The WiFi never worked well, it would connect, but was so slow, it would load websites in text format rather than HTML. I ended up tethering my phones data instead.

Cons: The whole hostel was really filthy - we had a cockroach in the room, as well as bllod stain on the quilt. Vacuum cleaner is never used in the rooms. Bathroom, especially toilet seat in the Private double room was like in a public toilet - not cleaned , neither desinfected. In these days when we should really careful about hygiene, this is unacceptable. Also mattresses should be thrown out in the garbage - they are not fit for sleeping! Super noisy - either from other guests, or from bars, or from construction site nearby, or from drunk people on the street.

Cons: If I could give a minus rating I would, I would have rather slept on the street. First of all I have slept in many a hostel and I am well aware you get exactly what you pay for but in the case of nomads Hostel I feel I should have been paid to stay there almost like a reward for some sort of weird social experiment on a reality TV show. Both 8 bedroom dorms I stayed in were barely big enough for 2 people, smelly, unclean sheets, lack of pillows, over crowded, hadnt been hoovered in what looked like months the list goes on. Also while I stayed there the place was over run with a large group of French people who did as the please and had free roam over the hostel. Drinking in the rooms started from roughly mid day and continued to all hours of the evening until they eventually turned to drug use which appeared to be in the form of MDMA caps. Music blaring through the halls and from the rooms but blantantly over looked by management. Small bit of respite between the hours of maybe 12am - 3am where they went to a club but even then the noise pollution from outside was enough to wake the dead. 3am comes around and your thrown back into hell once again. The large group running in and out of rooms at their will, partying and shouting freely. You ask politely to keep the noise down but to know avail, this eventually turns to a somewhat sterner request but only antagonizes them and they become more hostile. You lie there wide awake, praying, hoping they pass out soon. Morning comes around. And you are abused for getting up at responsible hour as the have the audacity to give out for you for mildly disturbing them. 12pm rolls around repeat. Awful, awful experience.

Cons: The room was tiny, bathroom very tiny, with nowhere to put any clothes. Only 1 bedside table an 1 lamp, and the lamp had to go on the floor., There was a small kitchen sink with a kettle. The plug was situated the other side of the sink which meant that the cable needed to cross the sink, VERY dangerous. The tap itself was falling out of the sink, and the air con did work until we reported it. The room was not very clean, previous clients left rubbish in cupboard. Finally, got stuck in the lift, which apparently had been faulty for some time.
