Overview
The kitchen is the central area of the Cottage with a counter looking into the living room. With two skylights, natural light floods the house all day. Wherever possible, I have tried to make it sustainable. We removed all the old carpet, laminate flooring and linoleum (from the 50's) tile. The use of low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints was very important to me, as I did not want there to be any out-gassing. The exterior was light blue with turquoise trim. We repainted it a light gray and turquoise, and added a touch of Coral around the windows. I found a cool door that looks like it is from the 50's. The original concrete floors were repaired and shined. I had the kitchen cabinets refaced instead of replacing them. We also reconditioned the original wood windows. Wherever possible, I have used cotton and natural fibers. The lawn was removed with the "sheet mulching" process, and replaced with mushroom compost. It takes longer to remove, but there were no chemicals used. Sometimes I use vinegar on pesky weeds. Currently, the garden is a work in process, and soon it will flourish as the mushroom compost is super enriched. There are succulents (from my BFF's daughter's wedding), and other drought tolerant plants. There is an herb garden if you want to cook. The toilets and shower heads are low-flow. My cleaning service is allergic to chlorine, so I am thrilled to say that she is familiar with the cleaning and sterilizing qualities of vinegar and baking soda. We also use Mrs. Myers products. One bedroom features a comfy queen bed with all the pillows and blankets you will need, and French doors that lead out to the backyard. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a bathroom with a shower, and a garden window with my shell collection. It also has French doors that lead out to the backyard. The gardens are a work in progress. The desk in the living room is full of local brochures on what to do in Ventura and surrounding areas. I EVEN CREATED A CHARGING STATION FOR DROIDS AND MACS. I now have 2 adult bikes, one has a basket and there is a tool kit. There are a lot of amazing surf spots nearby including Ventura Point, Pitas Point and Rincon. There is a gas grill, a wood fire pit, a big screen SmartTV, blow dryer, portable air conditioner and lovely patio table and chairs in the backyard. There is also an Airbed for extra people, plus 2 twin beds. (There is an extra charge for more than 3 people). The kitchen has a full size gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, French press (you might find some coffee in the frig), a small Crock Pot,and plenty of cooking supplies. There is a full length mirror on the bedroom doors. The Pier is about 1.5 miles north; To the south is Marina Park and Beach which is a great kids beach. There is plenty of parking, picnic areas, a small zipline and a small tot sized ship for exploring. The bike path and state beach are about 4 blocks north. The Seaward business district has plenty of restaurants and only 5 blocks(beach blocks are short) to the south. (See the guide book in the 3 ring binder). Ventura is a not only a city, but a county with numerous cities and communities with their own personalities. There is great hiking in the hills. You can hop on the trolley to get downtown or the Harbor. Coral Cottage is a block to the beach. Ventura County Fairgrounds are about 2.5 miles away, Downtown has lots of restaurants and fun shops. We also have a live music scene and an artist community. Lastly, please enjoy your stay. Thank you for choosing Coral Cottage.

6.0 Good
Pros: LOVED THE FRONT AREA WITH FIREPIT
Cons: VIEW FROM ROOM nOISE FROM NEXT ROOM
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautiful views and great staff.
Cons: Next to both freeway AND Amtrak train
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dont have to break the bank to get a killer ocean view room. Clean, fast and friendly staff.
4.2 Okay
Cons: 2nd floor room had a view of HVAC system. Worst view ever.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Jessie from the bar was great, makes tasty hand crafted margaritas. Bell boys and housekeeping were very friendly.
Cons: When I called reservations, the guy was not helpful or accommodating (when there was a mistake on our reservation). Although, I did book via a third party, he was not willing to resolve or help with it. Personally, hotels should not work via third parties (like Kayak) if they cannot resolve a problem. Makes a hotel and their staff look bad. And could ruin a vacation for a family, couple, group of friends.
7.4 Good
Pros: Loved that they had surf racks in the bell closet! The staff was helpful and responsive to complaints. The location is wonderful and I believe all rooms have a view of the ocean (we didn't pay extra for that).
Cons: For the price, I expected this hotel to be MUCH nicer. It is very average and the bathrooms are sorely outdated. It was also very annoying that they charge $12/night for parking but their parking lot is tiny and you will probably have to park at the structure next door. If you do park in their lot, make sure you use the validation correctly or it won't let you out! We were trying to leave for a wedding and had to go back inside the hotel because the validation wouldn't let us out. Ultimately they comped my parking due to the fiasco which was appreciated, but beware!
6.5 Good
Pros: The view was fantastic.
Cons: They should include the parking fees in the cost to stay at the hotel. $12 a day is ridiculous.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: location, staff
Cons: the noise from different parties was horrible
3.4 Mediocre
Cons: The room smelled terrible and everything seemed really old. The train waking me up 2x's during the night was terrible.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Great ocean view from the 8th floor!! Staff was very friendly. We were very comfortable! The floor was quiet. We booked through KAYAK and we're very pleased.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: view of ocean, nice bar
Cons: Didn't tell me no restaurant (under construction)

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The bathrooms were large and very clean. The breakfast was great. The staff was friendly You could walk to the pier.
Cons: Too close to freeway
6.8 Good

9.7 Excellent
Pros: Great prices. Clean rooms. Way better than I expected. Rooms recently remodeled. Flat screen tv. Very updated bathrooms. Simple but totally worth it for a single night stay. Very friendly staff!!
5.7 Okay
Cons: We picked this hotel because it had strong reviews, but the reality was a room that I wouldn't stay in again for half the price. A huge section of the fake leather on the desk chair had the surface peeled away, there were oil stains all down the door from a leaking door closer, and the ceiling had water damage in several places. They had signs up saying they were remodeling (which is great because they definitely need to, but they're not remodeled yet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect. Will definitely stay there again. Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Curtains are see through. Not that big of a deal just saying.
6.5 Good
Pros: Close to downtown, ocean view, reasonable price
Cons: Mediocre mattress, loud freeway

Pros: Satisfied with the stay, overall.
Cons: Missing bathroom towels and the iron. Front desk was very nice about it, and apologized.
7.7 Good
Pros: Cleanliness
Cons: Thin walls & noisy neighbors
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed, working A/C, clean room, hot water. What else could you want in a budget motel?
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Despite the fact that this hotel is now part of Motel 6, it's a decent place to stay in Ventura - right downtown and near the waterfront.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Cheaper than most surrounding hotels and close to beach
Cons: 1st room was already occupied. Beds were worn out and sagging. Lots of highway noise.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: The man behind the counter was very friendly and accommodating. At one point the cable wasn't working but we called the office and he immediately came to our room to fix it. My girlfriend and I are fairly easy to please so just the fact that we had clean beds with adequate comfort, clean sink and bathroom, and a mini fridge gave us all we could ask for to enjoy ourselves.

Overview Reviews
In 1985, San Francisco Bay area designer Tom Brooks was commissioned to create an Inn from the existing structure of an historic 1940's California-Spanish style firehouse and Clocktower. Focusing on the Spanish influences predominant in the American Southwest, he transformed the main hall of the firehouse into a comfortable lobby with fiber wall hangings, original art, beamed ceilings, handsome wood furnishings and a large fireplace. Thus, The Clocktower Inn Hotel, Ventura, California, with its easy grace and rustic simplicity, has evolved; perfectly suited to Southern California hospitality. We are located in the heart of historic downtown Ventura in a beautiful park setting, the Inn is adjacent to Mission San Buenaventura and the Historical Museum. The State Beach, restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, and Country Fairgrounds are all within easy walking distance. The temperate year-round climate allows plenty of time to take advantage of local attractions. Come share our tradition of warmth and hospitality that is as distinctive as our clocktower. Comfortable Accommodations, our personal touch of home and our always ready to serve staff make sure your visit to the hotel is most memorable. We provide the tired traveler with an incredible stay for a competitive price. Family members can visit our neighbor attractions. 7.7 Good
Pros: Great location to uptown Ventura and the beach. Restaurants are within walking distance.
Cons: Very noisy so don't plan to get a good night sleep
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything was bad here, black mold in the bathroom free breakfast consisted of runny powder eggs stale bread and the creamer was out dated. The gal at the front desk was continually apologizing I felt bad for her. This hotel is next to a park and the parking is shared with a public parking lot that was full of homeless people. At night we could hear people fighting in the park which was right out side our room there was a 6 foot fence that separated the window in our room and the homeless people continued to look over it into our window we complained to the front desk but was told nothing could be done because they didn't own the park and it was a public area. Good thing we were only staying one night
5.4 Okay
Pros: Great location right in heart of downtown old town Clubs Restaurants night life walking distance Cool park adjacent to hotel local transients hanging out but harmless Close to beach and fwy
Cons: Place has been great in the past lots of nice plants around patio and autrium Breakfast used to be good real eggs bacon sausage Now cheap as could be Super continental generic pastries if management could make cheaper I'm sure they would Went in morning to get coffee dispenser was out informed the clerk They copped a little attitude with me pulling them away from playing on fb I'm gruppy in the morning before my coffee just pissed me off I returned to my room to use the coffe machine there Place is a great price for what it is But don't expect anything to be completly right I'm not one to rate things very often take much to please But if u include breakfast and know it's sucks least have some fuking hot coffee for your guest in the morning I love Ventura This place has eroded management orsomething has dramatically changed for the bad here I hope the owner pulls his or her head out of there ass fixes it Place has lots of character history and charm to the city of Ventura to just throw this very neat partially converted old firehouse down the drain I hope I see better reviews in the future Save the clock tower lol Staff extremely poorly trained Bad moral Obvious owner manager has changed from the past I speak from the heart if you don't like my grammar or punctuation Too bad Is what it is Love America buy American
5.7 Okay
Pros: Was close to main street, freeway access.
Cons: 1. Small round toilet seat installed on large elongated oval toilet was strange. 2. Water damage in bathroom between tub & wall with black mold was gross. 3. The only chair in room was a hard wood dining room type chair. 4. With reservations, it took 10 minutes for desk clerk to get checked in. 5. Skipped the breakfast offered, its the worst of any motel I have ever stayed at. 6. Homeless around the hotel parking lot.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Good downtown location
Cons: Advertised wine and cheese served which was not the case, no internet available in rooms, rooms could use updating.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great and helpful staff. Within walking distance to downtown and beach front, literally a block away. Wonderful location. Definately coming back.
Cons: Some homeless around the area but they're really peaceful and keep to themselves. Nothing to worry about :)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I've stayed here several times. It's close (waking distance) to downtown, restaurants, bars and the beach. Room was clean, great balcony. Breakfast is marginal but they do have coffee and juice and sometimes eggs if you want to risk ptomaine poisoning, LOL.
Cons: Staff is always overwhelmed although they try to help. Ice machine never working but you can get all you want at the restaurant next door. Don't go roaming around outside late at night, really sketchy area although the hotel grounds are locked up tight. Parking is really tight on holiday weekends but they always find something for you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The front desk girl Nicole made you feel at home and was very kind and welcoming.
7.7 Good
Pros: They showed us to a adorable king size bedroom with a fireplace running! It was quaint! But we needed two queens. We got a very large room with lots of Windows!
Cons: Breakfast had no juice. Hardly any food left. A little worn out. No mattress on the hideabed. No keys so we had to be taken to our room. Desk clerk was awesome though.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Location, friendly staff, clean room, amenities, very quiet.
Cons: No parking due to an event next door we were unaware of. Given parking pass for adjacent lots but were refused entrance.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The shower in my room was broken, and the staff changed my room easily. The location was perfect! All of the downtown nightlife is walkable from the Clocktower, including a top notch whiskey bar across the courtyard. Value of accommodation for the price is exceptional.
Cons: Free breakfast buffet was a joke. Paid extra for a "nicer" room with a balcony, was originally booked into a room on the first floor. Patio is different from balcony. My first room had plumbing issues with the shower. The type of issue that the last guest probably complained about. Since it was not fixed before this room was sold again, I was given a poor impression of this hotel's standard of service.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: It was close to the start of the race
Cons: It was old and dirty. The bathroom door wouldn't close. The tv had no chanels. The carpet was dirty. The furniture was old and beat up a the drawer on the chest of drawers was stuck. I didn't feel like they every cleaned the rooms just once overestimate the blankets... Maybe
