Convenient location to town and private secluded beach. We loved the rustic beachy vibe.
No air conditioning. Although the fans provided and night breeze was helpful during the evening; during the day was a different story. Which was ok, because we usually were out and about- at the beach, by the pool, in town or on a tour.
breakfast okay, dinner and lunch very expensive,
the room was without a window and for the expensive hotel Price too much, never come back
Hotel is really really lovely - a bubble of comfort in amongst the jungle! Staff are all amazing - very friendly, chatty and helpful. Food is delicious - lots of seafood and daily specials. Breakfast was also delicious. A perfect place for relaxation after a hectic tour. Puerto Veijo is a lovely very laid back little town - great for people watching where many people look like they arrived there and simply never left!!
All the food was excellent and good choices. They even did a Thanksgiving dinner for the first time and it was really good and we’ll prepared. All the staff was super friendly and helpful, in particular Ronald, Claudia and Rashida.
The room was ok. It was very comfortable but in a little need of maintenance. Also, the location right next to the kitchen and lobby is not ideal, it was a little noisy, but not much because this is a quiet hotel.
This Hotel is amazing and is exactly what we were looking for. Located about 1.3 miles from the little town of Puerto Viejo right on the beach. One of the few, if only hotels located on the beach side of the road in this area. You can walk about 20 minutes to town on the beach or about 30 minutes on the road or you can take a $6 taxi that the front desk will call for you. If you walk the beach you walk through Playa negra on the way and watch the sand turn jet black and then back to brown. Really cool. Caribe fun tours also has a desk there so you can book excursions if interested. We chose to walk to town and take the local bus to nearby attractions for $1.50. The hotel vibe is relaxing and the landscaping is out of this world. It’s as if the hotel and pool were placed directly into a jungle paradise (because it was!). The details that went into creating the property are really amazing. Beautiful wood caring and mosaic tile work everywhere. We saw some birds and a sloth in the tree right on the property. It’s just a few steps to the beach where they have lounge chairs and wooden chairs and you can sit in the sun or shade. They serve drinks from the bar on the beach as well. We found that the prices at the bar were actually better then the ones in town. Also the drinks are made with fresh fruit always. The staff is amazingly friendly and unassuming. Every morning they serve you a hot breakfast included in your room rate. You get to choose between 4 dishes and there is a buffet of fresh fruit, cereal, fresh juices and coffee. This saved us so much money! Our rooms were clean and nice. We choose AC and it kept the room ice cold at night. We stayed in the bath suites 3 nights which were spacious and really cool (especially the shower!) and the sloth cabina for 2 nights which was smaller but we wanted to switch to a room with a balcony so we could get that vibe and we actually liked it better. Took a nap on the balcony and it was wonderful.
Loved the property! If you are sensitive to smells I would recommend bringing your own towel as they use a very heavily perfume scented detergent on theirs. The beds are firm but I think that this is typical for all the beds in Costa Rica as we are currently in a very expensive hotel in San Jose and it seems to be the same mattress. Also the little pool on the property attached to the big pool is not a hot tub - for some reason we thought it was. Not a negative bc it’s so warm there but just an FYI
Each of our 23 beautiful guest rooms of the main hotel, built from local hardwoods, are unique. Across the street are the new Villas Banana Verde, four two-story luxury accommodations with a full kitchen and private plunge pool. Next door is Casa Las Brisas, our sister property, four rooms boasting ocean views and rustic hardwood design. Throughout the properties, there are a variety of outdoor living spaces, open-air kitchens and tropical outdoor baths. All are equipped with wireless internet and are in close proximity to the pool, beach and restaurant.
