Pros: Beautiful place close to the main street (walking distance to the beach), but with the feeling you're in the middle of nowhere! Breakfast was perfect and with a different touch each morning! Marc really outdid himself as a host, taking care of everything you need. He even sent the shirts and cap we forgot to our next destination! What a service! Moltes gràcies Marc!

Pros: We had a great time at Caribe Town! Everything was perfect, although it rained a lot! Hosts, room, breakfast, pool, location- we can highly recommend! Thank you so much and best regards, Doro, Andi and the girls
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality, attention to detail and feel of seclusion in a jungle setting! Comfortable beds, great location away from the city. Marc and Luis were both kind and the breakfast was amazing ;)
Cons: The driveway letting to caribe town was filled with garbage and dog feces. Not caribe towns fault but still took away from the experience. Overall the city is garbage ritten so just accept it and it won’t bother you! Pura Vita
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It a nice place, with little cottages, cute. Breakfast is nice and plenty. The owner is very friendly. The beach is close by. For the restaurants you have to walk a little more! Is a parking place inside.
Cons: We had bad luck, when we arrived a tree was down and was no electricity, but was restored in couple hours.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Private open air bungalows (but screened off so inside is bug free) set back from the main road and across from the beach. Mark is helpful and cooks great breakfast! Saltwater pool is also lovely!
Cons: Shared kitchenette works okay, but gets packed and items are moved around. It would be nice to have a mini fridge in the unit.
9.2 Excellent

Pros: The best place you can imagine for a family vacation in Costa Rica! Super friendly and helpful managers and staff, great breakfast, very well designed and clean rooms, close to a great beach and many things to explore and do in the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place in incredible. The cabins are beautiful and clean; the bed is comfortable and they bathroom is huge. I loved all of it. Also, the location is very good. Being apart from town, isolated, is great. Nonetheless, you can walk to several places –including the sea.
Cons: I like everything.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location off the main road 256 (so easily accessible) within jungle area but close to beach (5 mins from Playa Chiquita, 20mins Playa Punta Uva - both walking) Falling to sleep and waking up to the sound of the jungle is a must is CR and this place offers one of the most comfortable experiences for this! Beautiful large, airy room (large ceiling to keep cool) Good ceiling fan to keep cool Large bathroom with warm shower (novelty with CR), and outside view into the jungle - like own private jungle shower, very cool! Nice decking area outside of room, with hammock, two chair and table, which is covered and protected from rain. Excellent breakfast of fruits, scrambled eggs with toast and marmalade (pineapple), and fresh juice and coffee Nice pool area, surrounded by the jungle Very welcoming service!
Cons: Nothing - our best hotel during a three week trip across Costa Rica!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Spanish owners are extremely nice and welcoming you like in their home. The eco lodge is confortable. The breakfast is fresh and different every day. The jungle garden is beautiful with animals including sloths.
Cons: Please be aware jungle sounds (howler monkey) will wake you up since the lodge is open to the garden with only insect protection at the windows.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We felt very welcomed from the beginning on. Everyone was so nice to us, the breakfast was the best one we had in whole Costa Rica, every day a little different. The rooms are simple but really nice, jungle sound included. We just loved it there!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the eco-friendly environment, 10 min walk to the beach, our lodge surrounded by forest. We hear sounds of howler monkeys, exotic birds, frogs. We had fun watching hummingbirds, the rodent agouti scampering around the property.
Cons: They had little water because of El Niño so there was interruption in water service.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: beautiful and well maintained lodge, very nice owner
Cons: pool is very small but this is definitively the only negative point
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This undeniably the most beautiful location we stayed at during our time in costa rica. It's located in walking distance two nice beaches and is run by wonderful people. Highly recommend!

Cons: Everything was top notch.

Pros: Nice and clean hotel. Great staff and great restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Serverd the best lomito which i had in Costa Rica.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved how they changed the color setting of the room every day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, nice beach, amazing staff, great breakfast
Cons: Needed to ask for shampoo and bath gel every single day. Water pressure could be better. Noise from construction right by the hotel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff are friendly and accommodating. Great beach across the road from the hotel with s restuarant and bar. It grew on us.
Cons: Both booking.com and TripAdvisor claim it is an adult only hotel. This is not the case. Their beds are very soft. A bit pricey catering for the American market. $40 for a 250ml bottle of champagne from the mini bar is crazy. The rooms are very white and the floors become slippery quickly. No non slip mat in the shower. No evacuation plan in the rooms or contact numbers etc.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really beautiful place, nice location, friendly staff and value for money.

Pros: Honestly the best hotel we did. It is nice clean and really boutique hotel style. The swimming pool is noce for the end of the day and they have a nice beach.
Cons: The restaurant is pricey and not that good. Breakfast a bit slow but nice
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all friendly. As soon as I got there Chandee was reviewing the the schedule for yoga, painting class which were amazing. They arranged other excursions like snorkeling. I had a little hiccup wanting to go to Panama. Jorge the manager was wonderful helping me get there. I have to give a shout out to Lexthers he was very attentive to my needs always there to give a helping hand.
Cons: I think it is a little over priced but it is the best hotel in Puerto Viejo if you like comfort.
Hotel Banana Azul - Adults Only - Puerto Viejo de Talamanca - Building
4
9.0 Excellent (652 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Each of our 23 beautiful guest rooms of the main hotel, built from local hardwoods, are unique. Across the street are the new Villas Banana Verde, four two-story luxury accommodations with a full kitchen and private plunge pool. Next door is Casa Las Brisas, our sister property, four rooms boasting ocean views and rustic hardwood design. Throughout the properties, there are a variety of outdoor living spaces, open-air kitchens and tropical outdoor baths. All are equipped with wireless internet and are in close proximity to the pool, beach and restaurant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Banana Azul for three nights. It was kind of a little break on our trip though Costa Rica. The staff was very friendly and the hotel had literally thought of everything. If you wanted to go to the beach, they would give you extra towels. If you forgot your sunscreen, they provided it. There is also a nice restaurant at the hotel where you can eat, but the town is nice too. Our room was a bit on the small side, but still very nice. We also booked a snorkeling tour with them which we emailed about beforehand. They gave us plenty of information. The tour itself was really fun and a great experience. Nice place to stay if you want to relax for a couple of days on your trip.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The area is covered in gorgeous plants that make the place feel private and jungly. The private beach area is also great.
Cons: The swimming area is a little close to the dining area which feels a bit weird, but it’s not a huge deal.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We love this place! We came back for a second time because we enjoyed it so much when we were there on our honeymoon. It has such a relaxing stress free vibe. The staff is always very friendly and personable. This is a great place to come if you want an escape from life for a while.
Cons: Air conditioning would be nice when the humidity becomes unbearable, but we understand it would take away from the Caribbean vibe that makes this place so special.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the way they welcomed us, the coconuts, welcome drinks. The place is beautiful, so close to the beach. The staff is great ans helpful, the food is tasty. Love the happy hour which is basically the whole day haha. Will be back!
Cons: The room we got was pretty loud, it was right next to the reception so we heard all the conversations. The bed was super squeaky, i woke myself up when turning from one side to the other. Other thing - it says adults only but the first day there was a family with a newborn and next day another family with 2 kids. Choose the hotel for being adults only.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property has a wonderful location at the carribean coast of Costa Rica. Until now I saw quiet a lot places in the carribean and stayed also at many five star hotels, but for me Banana Azul has a special flair and most probably manages to top them all. The attention is wonderful and all staff members are doing their best to make it a perfect week or two of vacation. They have a nice private beach section with service and offer excellent food, for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is absolutely top. We (married couple) staid in the tropical bath suite which was very comfortable. All locations that are a must to visit there are within 15 minutes driving distance, whereas also professional tours are offered at the hotel.
Cons: I have just one thing to mention here, which is the safe that worked just with key instead of electronically. However, this is only a very minor issue and can be neglected.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great food And drinks. Very friendly staff
Cons: No Aircon
5.8 Okay
Pros: Great staff.
Cons: Room was extremely small and did not match up with pictures on booking.com.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Banana Azul is a relative secluded area of Puerto Viejo. The staff has been exceptionally nice and supportive. Breakfast was great and diverse. The beach is only a few steps away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. Perfect to explore.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The food was excellent, location was perfect and beautiful and the staff were super friendly and the best hosts. They organised everything for us and prices were pretty reasonable
Cons: The hot water in the bathroom didnt turn off (delfin room) There was no air conditioning in the delfin room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the isolation just a little way out of the main town but at the same time it was too far to walk at night and the road is mostly unlit. The beach was beautiful though with bar service on the sand. Hotel facilities were also great, good breakfast as well, and free amenities like sunscreen and big repellent was awesome.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the location which is a bit outside of Puerto Viejo which makes it a quiet place. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Do not forget to book a surf lesson with Micky and Auxi who are very good instructors with a lot of patience.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The spa was excellent.
Cons: Everything else. Some of the staff were nice and others were rude. No one helped with bags or offered umbrellas in the pouring rain (every other hotel in Costa Rica has done this.) The hammock was broken, so we couldn’t relax on the front porch. There is zero water pressure so we couldn’t rinse the soap out of our hair. They have beach chairs for use but they are poorly maintained and therefore broken. The whole place need to be upgraded as it is tired and dated. The bed smelled like urine. The food was very expensive for Costa Rica and of poor quality.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was great. The whole bungalow experience was awesome. I would definitely go there again.
Cons: Food served at dinner was not the best.
7.9 Good
Pros: I booked lower standard by mistake but the upgrade was done with minimum fee, so very much appreciate the flexibillity. Customer oriented staff and very helpful
Cons: Towels could have a bit better quality
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, with a great location in Puerto Viejo and very friendly staff.
Cons: We got the bungalow next to the reception and sometimes it was a little noisy.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, Location, Location. A few hundred feet from Cocles Beach, and a short 20-25 minute walk to Puerto Viejo in one direction and the Jaguar Sanctuary in the other direction
Cons: Typical for this area, the bungalows are somewhat dated with no A/C and there was no refrigerator.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good service and breakfast. Nice and Spacious wooden bungalow with fans over each bed. Original cave style bathroom. Cocles beach is just the other side of the road.
Cons: Though light, the road could be heard from our bungalow.

Cons: The staff is extremely dishonest
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little hotel! The rooms are really luxurious & spacious. Great showers. Rooms everyday.... Friendly staff, the manager even brought me a cup of coffee in the morning as I wake up super early. The little things count! Highly recommend
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were wonderful. Really helped me with some tricky bookings that I would have struggled with in Spanish. This included tours, transfers, bikes and even flights. Nothing was too much effort. Spacious room with great aircon. There was a fridge so could keep drinks and fruits cold. Free coffee and filtered water in the reception area. Fresh flowers around the room / bathroom and cleaned daily. We enjoyed going to different cafes each day for breakfast. The location was perfect for us. We walked most places, hired bikes to ride to Manzanillo and took taxis / transfers and even public bus.
Cons: Minor thing - no hairdryer or tv/radio. The decor could be tweaked slightly to modernise (less mission brown, more bright coloured cushions) and with white walls need to keep white. While we loved the layout had to remember to close the curtains :)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: - The host, Andrea, is the nicest person you could ever meet. He was an extraordinarily good host, taking very good care about us and all his guests - The hotel is located in the forest, great views all around, from the room, pool, restaurant l, etc. I felt like we were in a fairy tale. And it’s actually 300 m from the road, so very easy to access and you can go to the beach in less than 5 min walking. Very clean, with all needed facilities (including air con). Swimming pool area is very nice also, we enjoy some nice evenings there. - Great location and easily accessible
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect. The staff, especially Hannibal, was outstanding and extremely helpful.
6.7 Good
Pros: Lots of nature around it, beautiful trees, saw some miniature venemous frogs in the garden. Room had a nice balcony. Location is good, you can walk to cocles beach, about 700meters from the hotel.
Cons: There is no sound proof in between walls, I could literally hear the next door guy snoring all night and conversations of other guests. The pool is super, super cold.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The initial check-in with Mitelios was amazing and he really is a good host. Very honest and helpful. The pool area is really nice as well.
Cons: The towels were dirty. The bedsheets had red spots on them. The bathroom was not clean at all and the shower had the electric wires out so when we had a shower we got electroschocks. When we talked to the man at reception (Hannibal) he was very rude and violent and didn't want to help at all when we pointed out all of the above. For 120$/night the room was a total mess.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You get to drink your coffee at the edge of the jungle, with the call of howler monkeys and chirping of tropical birds on the background. Great location, the room looked lovely and the pool was good as well
7.5 Good
Pros: Forest next to the hotel Friendliness of staff
Cons: Practically no mobile networl signal in the hotel
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff was polite and helpful. They had breakfast ready at 7:00 a.m. and eggs and Gallo Pinto to order shortly thereafter. The grounds, including the pool, were clean and neat and inviting.
Cons: The luxury suites are advertised as air conditioned. There was a small window unit (installed in a wall), but the windows have screen and curtains yet no glass to close them. We were constantly reminded to “Be Green” and turn the AC off when we left the room. I would think the first responsibility of the owners would be to make the hotel energy efficient so that the room maintained a comfortable temperature without having to cool the room several times a day. The only other complaint with the luxury suite was the rickety hand rail on the stairs/ladder to the upstairs loft.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location close to jaguar rescue center and punta uva.
Cons: Our room smelled like some sort of chemical, it reminded me of moth balls.
4.2 Okay
Pros: It has a nice garden looking out into the jungle. You will hear the parrots and howler monkeys in the morning. The pool is refreshing and the staff is super friendly. Beach is close but a car is recommended if you want to go to other beaches or do other activities.
Cons: The photo’s are outdated, the place is not maintained. The bungalows are dark, damp and not clean. The shower is not properly working: wires hanging out with no pressure. Originally we booked the standard bungalow but we were not happy at all. We wanted to check out and book another hotel but found out they already charged the full amount of the credit card. After a chat with the receptionist he offered us another room for 10 dollar extra a night (which was 80 dollar more according to the receptionist) and a small fee for breakfast. The booking.com description says breakfast is free but apparently it depends on the booking/room type. Because we already got charged for the full amount we accepted the room. Unfortunately it is way overpriced and not worth the money. I would not recommend staying here for this rate.
7.1 Good
Pros: Hotel owner and his staff were very friendly. Location is great. Very nice swimming pool and where the hotel is located. Suggestion on renting a bike was very useful. Overall experience was very positive and I would recommend the hotel to others.
Cons: I think that the facilities are good (and do not have other examples in the area to compare with), but might need some investment to keep it up. I think that rating was not better due to the price being paid, if rate would have been closer to U$100 per nigh it would have been better, but my last - minute booking probably didn't help.

Pros: Nicely located, clean place. Stayed in one of the bigger bungalows just for one night. Enjoyed it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The lodge is beautiful and tucked away from it all. It's a little bit of a walk to the ocean, but not too bad. The rooms were nice and gave a feeling of a tree house. Lush gardens to walk through and a small, but nice, pool. Breakfast was included and very nice. We only stayed one very quick night on our way to Panama.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: All stuff members were excellent. More wild life seen than at any other hotel ever. Anteater, agoutis, poisson dart frog, macaws, lizards, etc. We loved the common area near the reception area
Cons: The fan was broken and they knew on the check in. The parking is very limited on the property.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfortable and overall room was very spacious.
Cons: Room was located close to pool area and it was very noisy with children running around and music playing all day long.

Pros: The Caribbean style of the rooms
Cons: No TV in any area.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location near a local market with everything. Close to places to eat - love Punta Pasta!!! We stayed In the large multi bedroom and had 3 baths, a plus. No real Living room, but great porch !!
Cons: Sofa or living room furniture
5.4 Okay

Cons: Slow staff, and NO internet! And it does not include breakfast even though we paid almost $200 a night.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Every bungalow is located in the middle of the jungle! The rooms are decorated very tastefully plus you have hammocks outdoor. Everything is very clean, the breakfast consists of delicious fruit or omelette and the staff was really helpful and dried our wet clothes and shoes. The beach and local attractions like the Jaguar Rescort Center are only a few minutes away. Highly recommended!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location middle of jungle is nice. House was spacious.
Cons: Breakfast was to simple for me.
7.5 Good
Pros: Was concerned that I had chosen a hotel that was to far south of town , but turned out this was the perfect location. We rented bikes from the corner store and rode EVERYWHERE.. about a 10-15 min ride to punta uva ( gorgeous beach ) We rode into town several times and stopped along the way to eat and have cocktails at the great little restaurants .
Cons: I have too say that I enjoyed everything about this hotel I just wished our bungalow A/C Ceiling fan wasn’t enough for us Hotel staff provided a fan for our room It was very Comfortable for us at night

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, nice ocean view, friendly staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The Location.. looking out onto the beach, hearing the waves first thing in the morning. You cant get a better location. Theres a jungle path that brings you to a gorgeous beach. The room itself was nice and comfortable, we stayed in a double deluxe, the other rooms looked very basic. The owner was very helpful and friendly. Its s short walk to restaurants and bars.
Cons: Small shampoo and soap were not replaced during our weeks stay
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and helpful
Cons: The bed was very hard, but it did not ruin our stay at all, just a comment.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean rooms! Perfect location and caring owner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was just right, on the beach but also just on the south edge of town so it was quiet at night. It's a great starting point for a bike ride down to Punta Uva and the other great beaches. Mariam was very friendly and actually runs down the stairs to meet you when you ring the bell. I stayed there twice during my time in Puerto Viejo. The lady who cleaned my room and the common kitchen area was very nice and used her "magic" to help me light the stove ;-)
Cons: A little construction noise but that is temporary and can't be helped.
7.9 Good
Pros: A sloth came through the garden of the hotel and didn't mind us taking a photo.
Cons: The noise from the road was quite loud in our first room but the owner was happy to move us to another room as soon as one became available.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really close to the beach with private parking, walking distance to town center
7.5 Good
Pros: The view from the room was beautiful, it is a step away from the beach. The location is perfectly near everything yet you won't hear any noise. They have AC and Wifi.
Cons: The bed sheets and the pillows were not as clean as they're supposed to be. The bathroom was not well equipped, there weren't enough towels, shampoo or shower gel.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accomodation is very beautiful and near the City of Puerto Viejo. The owner is a very good host. She helps us getting a dolphintour for the next day and makes everything that we felt comfortable. The bedsize of the extra large bed was incredible.

Pros: It's close to the center and far enough from noisy parties. Pool table and a nice open restaurant where you can sometimes see sloths and birds while having breakfast. Good laundry service. In case you need something important in the morning, make sure to discuss it the evening before. Very nice stuff.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: There was nothing I didn’t like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very comfortable and clean, the pool area is perfect and there is a large space where yo can sit if you don’t want to be in your room. The staff is very helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location right across the street from the beach, very friendly staff, and clean/comfortable rooms. Highly recommend if you'll be in the Puerto Viejo area and especially if you're a beach bum! Playa Cocles is beautiful.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: nothing
Cons: the accomodation was definitely not in line with the pictures. Everything is very old and not kept up to date. Breakfast was not good, rooms weren’t clean, not enough towels even when asked for more, doors couldn’t close etc etc
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My husband and I rented a bungalow for five nights. It was decorated nicely and very clean. Hammock on the front porch was perfect for an afternoon nap. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and well maintained with many different flora and fauna. We woke early one morning and explored the grounds. We saw 5 poison dart frogs, several types of birds, brown squirrels, two agoutis and could hear the howler monkeys! Two lovely cats live on property and would greet us each day as well. The breakfast buffet was incredible and was different everyday. Lovely pool to relax in with a swim up bar. Nice location. The beach is just across the street and a few minutes drive to the city center. Will definitely be back!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to an apartment and this made our stay - not only were the staff very helpful but we had several rooms and the option of making our own meals sometimes, which was useful as it's expensive to eat out. - we'd come again and stay there - I loved the balcony and we could just about see the sea. We could walk into Puerto Viejo from here, which has a great caribbean vibe. The hotel had a feeling of lost grandeur - when it was built originally it was with good quality materials and verdant landscaping. But there were parts that were left unusuable by damp / rot. These were easy to avoid. The main pool is nice to be in - again particularly at night when it's open late. There is a games room with pool and table tennis that is also pleasant. It neighbours one of the more popular beaches and we loved jumping in the waves, especially at sunset. The beach has some level of lifeguards on it - a flag system that tells you how safe or unsafe it is because of the rip. Our youngest child is 10 years old and we only let her in the sea if we were with her - for a milder beach Punta Uva may be much better - up the road a bit. The only 'tour' we did was surf lessons from Hershel Lewis which was fab as we are all first timers and we all managed to do it - from a local Caribbean Surf School. We could snorkel from the beach at Manzanillo.
Cons: The breakfasts could have been better - pancakes tasteless for instance. We'd opt out of those if we came again.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, you will be able to see lots of animals walking around the facilities. Staff was very kind. Ocean View rooms have a pool right behind. Breakfast is good!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A unique property: the layout is really different and there are many amenities you can enjoy. The way the rooms are divided helps to make this a very quiet location. You can use either parking lot for convenient access to specific areas. All in all, a very relaxing stay. Excellent!

6.0 Good
Pros: The hostel looked nice, well decorated, room was reasonably comfortable and the breakfast at the restaurant was expensive but good. Easy to walk into town and across the road was Playa Negra, a black sand beach.
Cons: They have frequent power outages which means there's no lights, running water, or food available in the restaurant. The outage lasted for hours on our second night. During the rainy season it also smells terrible around the hostel and we found cockroaches in our room. Only cold water in the shower. The receptionists were all friendly, however they knew almost nothing about the area! When we asked about renting bikes, surf lessons, restaurants etc they only knew what was next door and didn't have any idea of what was in the town (which was a 5 minute walk away). The restaurant was very expensive, and we had a mediocre at best dinner there. We were two college students staying there and everyone else seemed to be part of large tour groups, so we felt out of place and in the way. Would not recommend a stay here, as there are many places on the other side of town which are closer to stuff you want to see, and are geared towards smaller groups.
6.3 Good
Pros: It was across the road from a nice long beach. The restaurant looked inviting although we did not use it. The wood used on floors and beds and other areas was beautiful.
Cons: They had lost the key to the safe, the hot plate did not work, we had no hot water, our room was right over the pool table area and we could see down to the players via cracks between the boards, There were no curtains over most "windows" (which were just screening between the walls) which let in lots of light. Lots of stairs to walk up. The very noisy pool game did end any 9:30 and it as quiet after that. I don't know if quiet hours are enforced or we got lucky. It had more of the feel of a hostel for college kids which made the price pretty steep.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A hostel combined with a brewery? Hell yeah. The staff was amazingly friendly and super helpful throughout my stay. To get to the entrance of my room you had to go through a cute little garden. Rooms are tidy, quiet, comfortable and there's a variety of rooms for different budgets. Also, the beer was delicious: drinking right by the black beach front was an experience I'll cherish for a long time.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful and friendly little B&B in a great location (easy walk to Jaguar Rescue Centre, Playa Chiquita & Playa Cocles). Andy was a wonderful host! Breakfast was $5 and excellent. We also saw sloths in the garden, including one that came to the ground / base of a tree.
Cons: Not a problem for me, but around 4km / $7 taxi ride to Puerto Viejo where cash machines are located. Some local businesses only take cash, so just plan accordingly. Bring a torch for walking at night!
7.9 Good
Pros: Small but clean room. Friendly staff and some good beers in the bar.
Cons: No breakfast available.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were great and the beer was terrific
Cons: No safe in the room

7.1 Good
Pros: Big garden, entrance to the beach, view from the private room for two.
Cons: Not every bathroom was clean, but mostly Yes. Generally the buildings are not visually great.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Good location
Cons: They have far too many beds for the facilities. The area we were in had one toilet/ shower for 100 people. This meant there was always a queue and they couldn’t keep on top of cleaning. They don’t really clean the tent area, just brush the dust away, so you can see old food and ear buds within the grates the floor is made up of. We spent 3 nights here and got no sleep the whole time. They have terrible music pounding through the hostel even until 4am. The whole place was full of people taking drugs. Even at 2pm we wanted to sit by the beach but felt so uncomfortable with people snorting drugs from the table next to us that we couldn’t. The staff are also really unhelpful and even though they supposedly have a tour desk when we asked the hostel said they didn’t have any tours. We’ve been backpacking for 9 months and this is by far the worst place we’ve stayed.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Cool layout and art. Service was good
Cons: This place is cool but definitely a down and dirty party spot. Got a private room to try to get a decent sleep at night, but slept VERY little the two nights we were there. Very noisy room. Lots of loud music very late at night/morning. Was woken up at 5am by a group of people who decided to BLAST their Trance music and have a dance party for the next few hours. They kept partying into the late morning yelling at each other and smoking cigarettes all over. I saw the same group throw their trash on the beach and roads around. Found reminiscing of blood on our bed sheets. Got a shuttle through the hostel to a neighboring town in Panama that should of took maybe 2 hours but ended up being 7 hours of waiting around outside in the heat at various points because of drivers not showing up between drop off points. Burned a whole day “traveling” when I had plans to do a boat trip that day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Liberty, vibe and confidence
Cons: Needs drinkable water and a bit of commodities
4.6 Okay
Pros: The tents were surprisingly comfortable and cool on an evening. The hostel itself was pretty cool.
Cons: There was really loud music playing until at least 2am every night and then I'd usually be woken up around 5.30 - 6 am by people talking loudly or alarms going off. There were about 6 showers to accommodate the 200-300 people stopping there and not many more toilets than that. The kitchen was also very small considering the amount of guests. I also think the tent and dorm room prices were bumped up for Easter weekend, and given the increase in people staying there and the lack of facilities, I think this was totally unfair and just indicates that the hostel was more concerned with making as much money as possible over Easter weekend, rather than the comfort of the guests. More facilities definitely needed!!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice access to the beach
Cons: Staff didn't really help, the structure didn't respect the quiet time at night although there were not a lot of people as guest . Bikes available were old and not well functioning.
7.5 Good
Pros: I stayed 4 nights in a hammock was a great experience. If you dont mind slumming it paradise then you cant go wrong with this place.
5.4 Okay
Pros: conveniently located across from the store and not too far from the town center and from Playa Cocles beach, which is rather nice to go for a swim, even though this hostel also has its own little beachfront. speaking of which, it was nice hanging out on the beachfront where everyone meets at night and the firepit is nice to hang around by. this place has surprisingly good internet, which was good for working online. it's very affordable, i recommend staying on the tents. they are not that much more expensive than the hammocks but are much more comfortable.
Cons: first, the small things. as you can see from the pictures on this website, the decor is a little tacky but then again it's a matter of preference. second, they start playing loud music from the morning until late at night. again, a matter of preference, if you're looking for a more "party" environment, which is not what i was looking for. but what i really cannot tolerate, is how dirty the place is, especially the kitchen. my god that is one dirty kitchen.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This place is beautiful, great location near town and a stones throw from the beach. Pretty cheap of such an expensive town too. Helpful staff, huge lockers, decent kitchen.
Cons: They blast reggae pretty much dawn til dusk which is sometimes cool but sometimes annoying. The hammocks are nice but are quite close together. I couldn’t access my locker as my hammock neighbour was asleep blocking the door!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Pretty cheap, let me check in at 11 pm, with their 24 front desk.

7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast system was good. You can just pay for the extras which is awesome.
Cons: There was a freezer but the cable would not fit the outlet. So we had to ask for an extension. Also the AC controller was under the bed. Also the bathtub was not working. My point is, when you arrive, they should tell you all that rather than waiting for the people to ask.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location is close to town and the good bakery. Most of the staff was very friendly.
Cons: The room I had (Mikado Room) was very noisy because it was next to the street. There was a balcony, but it was enclosed with netting which didn't allow much air through, so it was hot. I think the netting was there to keep out the bats which roost in the roof. If you are there for any length of time there is no place to hang clothes. There is a chest of drawers, but that is not useful if you want to dry things. If you are looking at the photos online and think you can have a nice swim from one end of the pool to the other under the little bridge, think again. The pool is three little basins. However, the garden is nice.
6.3 Good
Pros: The air conditioning and the location
Cons: I paid 61,000 colones to listen to the boom boom club music until 3 am. My shuttle came at 6 am so I did not have an opportunity to sleep nor complain- staff leaves at 10. I paid extra for a bathtub on our last night in the jungle and it did not work either. I spent a week listening to the beautiful sounds of the jungle only to end my trip with the most expensive bad night of sleep I’ve ever had. So disappointing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was clean and quaint. The restaurant below the hotel, has amazing dinner.
Cons: Breakfast was unseasoned.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Among nature hab. Good costumer service. Really nice arquitecture (oriental-like), good breakfast, delicious omelets.
Cons: Water was cold, not hot as the description says.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really great location. David was very accomodating and friendly. There are 2 sloths living in the trees so that was spectacular to see.
Cons: We were upgraded to the bungalow by the pool which was stunning but the bed was soooo squeaky. We were waking eachother up every time we moved in the night.
5.5 Okay
Pros: I liked the ambience of my room a lot and the bed was comfortable. I only wish there was a fridge and a safe. Also my room was off away from main hotel down an ally. Although I locked my door, my room was ransacked somehow. I thought that whole area seemed shady. Luckily I had nothing stolen bc I had all my valuables with me. But as a woman traveling alone I did not feel safe and couldn’t get out of that area fast enough. The hosts were very nice. My suggestion would be to make sure the room you reserve is in main building and not the one off/apart from property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Best breakfast ever. Relaxing garden. Great location. Clean and comfortable accommodation.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious clean and quirky accommodation, comfortable bed, good air conditioning. I like the Zen theme around the garden and reception area.
Cons: The mirror in the bathroom is a little set back, could've done with another mirror.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely staff, great location, fantastic breakfast. Beautiful garden.
Cons: Spa baths don't work in any rooms, yellowish tinge to water. Some of the rooms don't have much privacy, just a cloth curtain no blinds.

Cons: The water at the beachfront here is poluted so you're better off using the beach just past the town. It's only a 10 min walk away.
7.1 Good
Pros: The room we had booked through Booking was no longer available when we arrived. We ended up staying in another one. There should be quicker coordination between hotel and Booking page.
