Top tips for hiring a car at Portland Airport

  • Portland and the Orlando region boast several attractions and a thriving cultural scene. The best way to make the most of your stay is by acquiring car rentals at Portland International Airport (PDX). A rental gives you the freedom to explore stunning attractions in remote places and appreciate hidden gems that cannot be reached by public transport like the bus. Moreover, no one dictates your pace when you have a rental, as is the case when dealing with fixed bus and train times. Lastly, you move around comfortably with a rental as you can select a rental that meets all your travel needs.
  • You can rent a car at Portland Airport using KAYAK. The process is easy, fast, and convenient since it can be done online from your home. The website is user-friendly, so you can quickly find the rental you’re looking for using the filter option. This option lets you set the budget and car category you require. Moreover, booking your car rental at Portland Airport through KAYAK helps you save money.
  • Make sure you return your rental at the location stated on the rental contract and before the agreed time following the expiry of your rental period. Failure to do so attracts late return fees. You can communicate with your provider about a convenient time to make the drop off if you find that you won't be able to return the vehicle on time. Some agencies allow 24-hour returns at a small extra fee, allowing you to drop off the rental outside their operating hours.
  • Expect some difficulty when picking up and dropping off your rental at Portland Airport. Some days of the week, the high influx of travelers makes it difficult to transit to the airport quickly. These include Thursdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Avoid booking flights into and out of the airport during these days as you would take longer to transit through the airport. Moreover, the best time to land at the airport is past 11 am when the airport is less busy. Avoid flying into PDX during summer, as it experiences the highest influx during this season.
  • Book your car hire at Portland Airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about renting a car at Portland Airport

  • Which car rental companies are most convenient at Portland Airport?

Dollar and Enterprise are some of the most convenient options for a car rental at Portland Airport. The two have extended operating hours, unlike other car hire agencies. This allows renters to pick up and drop off the rental at a convenient time based on their schedule. You don’t have to worry about fixing your schedule based on the agency’s operating hours.

  • Where are the rental counters situated at Portland Airport?

Portland Airport has over 10 car rental providers at the onsite consolidated car rental facility. These include major companies like Budget, Payless, Dollar, Enterprise, and Hertz, which have a rental counter at the consolidated car rental facility. The facility is located opposite the main terminal building. Exit the baggage claim area, and you will see the facility across the street. The counters are on different levels of the parking garage. • What type of documentation is required to rent a car at Portland Airport?

You must have attained the minimum age of 21 to qualify for a Portland Airport car rental. All renters below 25 will pay an extra daily underage fee. They should tell people up front that they don't take debit cards instead of taking the reservations and then not giving them a car when they get to their destination and leaving them to scramble to find something else. Will NEVER use Budget again.

I reserved an SUV in March for this August rental. Due to a change by the airline, I needed to change my rental by one day, from Monday to Monday to Tuesday to Tuesday. I spoke to a Budget agent because modifying the reservation by one day changed the rate by $400! This was now more than I could afford. Budget's agent told me to cancel the existing reservation and make a new one. I did that, but because of the price increase, I had to change my car from a Rav 4 to a Toyota Corolla. I was not happy with the change and will probably not rent another car from Budget in the future.

They tried to scam us out of $2500. They said we were on the do not rent list due to prior car rental damage. The Alamo dept. that handles do not rent issues was closed. When we did get a hold of that department they took us off the do not rent list. No explanation of why or how we even got on the list. Scam. Had to rent with a different company. Never use Alamo, national or enterprise again.

After landing, I went to the Alamo line and waited for an hour and a half in line until it was my turn. It was not reasonable. They had one worker behind the counter and he would go behind the door for about 10 minutes and then return. This happened continuously. I will never book with Alamo again in Portland

A rolling empty beer can in the back, film of tobacco smoke making the rear window impossible to see through, same for the front windshield. Apparently the manager wanted to issue some refund on my credit card upon the return, but that never happened. Plenty of apologies though...

I reserved and paid for an EV ready to 530pm. My flight was delayed so I didn’t make it to the pick up counter until 600pm. My EV was not ready, it was charging, I was told it would be another 10-15 minutes. Again waiting at the counter and continuing to check in, by 7pm I had to leave as I was late for my scheduled plans. So I asked again when the counter attendant talked to his manager and I heard them say they only had a Tesla and someone else reserved a Tesla and no other ev’s were available. I heard that and said I’ll take any car at this point, so they gave me a gas powered Buick and off I went. They couldn’t make any other adjustments or changes since I prepaid for the vehicle. Frustrating pick up operation.

The electric car was nice but could only charge it 30 min at a time. The heater didn’t work when it was below a certain temperature outside. Not a good idea to rent electric cars in cold climates. We returned the car and exchanged it. The second car wasn’t as nice. But it worked. We were happy in the end to have a normal car but missed the heated seats and steering wheel.
