The Sago is small and simply, minimally, but elegantly designed. It probably has the smallest front desk and lobby you can imagine, but it works perfectly. The location couldn’t be better on the lower east side. Around every corner are wonderful restaurants and breakfast spots and buses and the subway. The staff went out of their way to help with everything we needed, including calling their car company when we were about to leave for the airport. The car arrived in minutes and cost about $25 less than the Uber I was about to use. The room was cleverly designed, and quiet, with a wonderful king size bed and a tiny kitchenette which came in very handy a couple of times.
The lighting in the room is, for my taste, too low. The closet was small, but ok.
Love the neighborhood Love the deck
Lighting was poor Obnoxious fluorescent lights Difficult to control
Our suite was beautifully appointed with a balcony, separate living area and kitchenette. The bedroom was simple in its design.. but had a clean, modern aesthetic that we love. Oh and it had the most comfortable king-sized bed! My daughter, who enjoys baths, loved the deep soaking tub. We were also blessed to have the entire floor which had a large, private terrace. Convenient location close to Caffe Vita, amazing Ramen Ishida and so many other cool spots. All the staff we encountered were friendly, gracious and a pleasure to interact with. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
The living area could use 1 more lamp. I had to work late into the night and would have preferred it to have been a bit brighter. The wi-fi was dodgy, had to re-enter password several times. However, neither of these things would deter me from staying here again.
Great location on the Lower East side, just a short walk to the subway. Away from the manic part of New York, but close enough to everything. The staff were amazing.
The in-room safe was an epic fail. Repeated efforts to fix it by the hotel did not succeed. In the end, we just wrote it off as "all too hard". This is not rocket science. It was very annoying lugging around stuff we would have preferred to have stored safely while sight seeing; especially as we stayed for a week. This is the ONLY downer on an otherwise terrific place to stay.
The linens, waterfowl pillows and duvet were some of the finest linens I have experienced the world over. Fantastic bed and mattress and i would highly recommend for a fabulous sleep.
I was so looking forward to the experience of a small boutique hotel on the L.E.S and it living up to it's amazing reviews. However, as a hotelier myself saddened on several notes. - Communication was poor and had no response to previous attempts via two different email options well in advance. - Customer service was automated, lacked any emotion or form or personality. - Access to the supposed rooftop was only via the concierge pressing the lift button which is not viable if they are mid check in. - Rooftop is actually only a small weatherbeaten deck at the rear edge of the hotel - Room was small which i am fine with but this should be best advertised as single person on business suite. - Badly lit room and bathroom and had a TV hanging 20cm+ of the wall in a jumble of cables which meant every time you walked around the bed you had to lean to avoid it banging into it. - The bathroom door did not close properly and would only slide halfway across. Shower door was wedged closed and tough to open. - Tiles and grout were dirty with mildew - Shower floor was wooden japanese style slats which are nice to stand on but unhygienic for a commercial space. - Minimal luggage storage for twin suite and had to pop my suitcase in the dark corridor behind the door. - Water was not included and charged at a stupendous rate. Rarely do I ever make such a strong review but compared to the previous reviews Sago had received it was such an underwhelming experience overall and spending over $500nzd for a special occasion it did not live up to expectation. I hope others do enjoy their stay and this feedback can be taken constructively to fix the broken items and create and experience to be proud of offering.
