The 10 best hotels in Nantucket

Discover the top hotels in Nantucket handpicked by local expert J.Q. Louise.
J.Q. Louise
6 December 2023

Nantucket is just one of those special places: the kind of place you dream about returning each summer after just one visit. As a Bostonian, Nantucket is the classic summer escape. And after hopping on a quick Cape Air flight to ACK, I always breathe a little easier, feeling the stress melt away with the sound of the propellers on the 45-minute flight down to this amazing island off the shore of Massachusetts. Nantucket has always had cute little BnBs, but over the past few years has really upped its hotel game with chic boutique hotels popping up all over the island. I have selected my top picks here to help make your next trip to Nantucket a breeze. Keep reading for the inside scoop on the 10 best hotels on Nantucket.

1.

White Elephant Hotel

Address:

50 Easton Street.

Price:

$318-4461/night

The White Elephant Hotel is the classic place to stay on Nantucket–an island landmark and one of my personal favorites. Located right on Brant Point, it’s not only close to everything in town, but also to where the ferry drops you off, so if you are arriving by ferry this is a great choice.
The White Elephant just went through a huge renovation, so its already chic rooms are recently refreshed and make for an amazing place to stay all year round. My top tip is to enjoy breakfast outside overlooking the water and return in the evening for a cocktail before dinner at the Brant Point Grill, which everyone calls BPG.
And, if you want to tour around, you will be happy to know that the White Elephant is really close to most things, like the White Heron Theater or the Nantucket Whaling Museum.

2.

The Wauwinet

Address:

120 Wauwinet Road

Price:

$586-586/night

Nestled amidst the dunes of the island’s eastern shore, The Wauwinet is the place to book if you are looking for a romantic Nantucket getaway with your special someone. Surrounded by nature, this hotel offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Nantucket.
Far away from everything else, this is a hotel where you will want to have a rental car, otherwise you will need to rely on the hotel’s shuttle into town. Be sure to make time to enjoy dinner at the award-winning TOPPER’S restaurant, renowned for its locally sourced ingredients and innovative dishes.
With its serene location and unwavering commitment to excellence, The Wauwinet offers a quintessential Nantucket experience. And while a stay here may set you back a pretty penny, it’s one that you will always remember.

3.

The Nantucket Hotel & Resort

Address:

77 Easton Street

Price:

$389-3904/night

Located just a short walk from Main Street, The Nantucket Hotel blends old-world charm with modern comforts. Its iconic red roof and classic New England architecture make it a standout landmark in the heart of the island.
My insider tip: head to the on-site Breeze restaurant for their delectable lobster bisque – a true culinary delight that showcases the island’s bountiful seafood offerings.
After a day of exploring Nantucket’s art galleries and boutique shops, relax in the hotel’s stunning courtyard, adorned with blooming flowers and cozy fire pits. With its welcoming atmosphere and top-notch amenities, it promises an unforgettable island escape.
And the ambiance when you return each night to the other guests mingling on the porch with cocktails in hand makes it such a magical place. This is a family-friendly hotel with a great pool on site, which is rare on Nantucket.

4.

Greydon House

Address:

17 Broad Street

Price:

$209-1039/night

Greydon House is a chic boutique hotel on Nantucket, and with its location in the heart of downtown, this is a hotel for the guest who wants to enjoy everything that Nantucket has to offer. Greydon House stands as a testament to the island’s rich maritime history: its elegant facade and curated interior design reflect a harmonious blend of past and present.
Ask about their curated walking tour of Nantucket’s historic sites, led by knowledgeable local guides who breathe life into the island’s stories. After a day spent exploring, guests can unwind in the intimate library or enjoy artisanal cocktails at the hotel’s renowned speakeasy-style bar.
Greydon House’s attention to detail and commitment to preserving the island’s heritage make it a truly unique destination for history enthusiasts and contemporary travelers alike.

5.

21 Broad Hotel

Address:

21 Broad Street

Price:

$199-926/night

A member of Lark Hotels, 21 Broad is one of several cool boutique hotels in Nantucket. Nestled in the heart of town, the hotel presents a wholesome experience, as the contemporary design combined with nods to the island’s whaling past creates a unique ambiance that celebrates Nantucket’s rich heritage.
My greatest piece of advice: don’t miss their courtyard lounge, an ideal spot to unwind under the stars with a drink in hand, enjoying panoramic views of the quaint town below. And, because it is a Lark Hotel, they have a BYOB mixer bar each evening: just bring your favorite booze, and they will provide all the mixers you need to create the perfect cocktail.
With its prime location and stylish comforts, 21 Broad offers an enticing retreat for those seeking an island escape with a touch of contemporary flair. The rooms are cozy and comfortable while offering marble bathrooms and a fresh design.

6.

Jared Coffin House

Address:

29 Broad Street

Price:

$56-559/night

A historic inn dating back to the early 19th century, Jared Coffin House exudes old-world elegance. The impressive brick facade and classic interiors hearken back to a bygone era of Nantucket’s prosperous whaling days.
For someone who has been to Nantucket many times and has already tried the trendy new hotels, I recommend booking a stay at the Jared Coffin House for the classic Nantucket experience. Whether you are staying at the hotel or not, book a dinner at the Nantucket Tap Room on the basement level of the hotel for an intimate, rainy-day dining experience with excellent food.
A bowl of clam chowder paired with a nice glass of wine is what dreams are made of. From its inviting rooms adorned with antique furnishings to its central location, Jared Coffin House offers a captivating experience that pays homage to Nantucket’s storied past.

7.

76 Main

Address:

76 Main Street

Price:

$580-870/night

Another Lark Hotels location on the island, 76 Main is housed in a stately captain’s home not far from the island’s famous cobblestone main street. As soon as you walk into the hotel, you feel as if you have entered your very own summer house on Nantucket.
Similar to 21 Broad in design, as they are both funky chic Larks, this property is a bit more polished and serious, befitting its stately architecture. Don’t miss the complimentary breakfast each morning. As a Lark hotel, expect small bites that are healthy and tasty, freshly-brewed coffee, and more.
To make sure you see the best of Nantucket, I recommend that you take advantage of the hotel’s proximity to Theatre Workshop of Nantucket and Hadwen House, which are just steps away from 76 Main.

8.

Life House, Nantucket

Address:

10 Cliff Road

Inspired by Captain Robert Calder’s wife’s laid-back innkeeper persona and her passion for cultivating the island’s native flora and promoting holistic wellness, Life House Nantucket is now an eclectic escape.
This boutique hotel feels like a place where only “in the know” people stay, so if you are always on the lookout for the coolest hotels, this is the place for you. When the hotel was being renovated, the team drew upon the historic owner’s love for Nantucket’s natural beauty and Life House now exudes a charming and relaxed ambiance, reflecting her flair for blending the island’s botanical wonders into its decor.
The soulful essence of her holistic practices resonates throughout the House, where guests can immerse themselves in a world of tranquility and rejuvenation. The insider’s tip is to enjoy breakfast on the porch with the sea breeze tickling the tip of your nose.

9.

Seven Sea Street Inn

Address:

7 Sea Street

Price:

$326-798/night

For a stay in one of the top-rated hotels in Nantucket, I recommend the Seven Sea Street Inn. For an authentic bed and breakfast experience and true island hospitality, you are in for a treat. Inside you will find a New England style in all the areas of the hotel, but what I love is the homey feel of the rooms and the care they have been decorated with.
Think unique furnishing, carpets over wooden floors, a fireplace in some rooms, and a calming sea view. If the weather allows it, you simply must take your breakfast outdoors – you are guaranteed to fall in love with the garden.
If you want to rent a car, you will appreciate the free on-site parking and if you need to work while there, a business center will accommodate you. The inn’s central location is another plus.

10.

Brass Lantern Inn

Address:

11 North Water Street

Price:

$173-436/night

The Brass Lantern Inn on Nantucket stands as a charming testament to the island’s rich maritime history and warm hospitality. Housed within a historic building, the inn exemplifies old-world charm while offering modern comforts to its guests.
With its beautifully appointed rooms and suites, each adorned with unique touches and elegant furnishings, the Brass Lantern Inn creates an inviting and cozy atmosphere. From the moment guests step through its doors, they are greeted with genuine warmth and personalized service, making them feel like they have found a true home away from home on this idyllic island retreat.
The best part, though, is the spacious outdoor seating area where you can enjoy breakfast, a drink, or just savor the afternoon with a cup of tea and your favorite book. This is one of those romantic getaways you will never forget.
