Cons: Arrived at hotel about 9.30 pm after dinner in town and were unable to have a drink before retiring. It seems that the hotel only opens all it’s facilities at certain times.

Pros: When a problem arose re the room the staff dealt with it quickly and without complaint. The evening meal in the restaurant was good. Choice of foods at breakfast.
Cons: Had to change rooms because of smelly toilet. First alternative room had rubbish on it but the third room that was offered was spotlessly clean and comfortable and would recommend it.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room and sheets were spotlessly clean and warm, smoke free and the self check in using your credit card was a breeze to use. Park on the road outside, walk through the gate, check in at the machine and that will give you a code to open the car gate.
Cons: Breakfast wasn't available for some reason. I never actually found a member of staff to ask why but I did use the free microwave tho.
7.1 Good
Pros: Does what it says on the tin. Its cheap and gives you a bed for the night. My room was clean and comfortable enough and importantly it was quiet. Note, bring your own towel as its shared bathrooms (also pretty clean). Maybe bring your own pillow as well as they are thin. Basically, its not anywhere near as bad as some of the reviews on google would suggest.
Cons: Somewhat not obvious how to get in when it late and the gates are closed, but I worked it out.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Dirty bathrooms/rooms, broken fittings in the rooms
6.7 Good
Cons: we requested an invoice at the name of the company and never received it
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Could only get in using credit card (which I didn’t have as I’d lost my wallet). Got kicked out in the rain and told to wait until 5. When I finally got in the room was really dirty and there were insects and even blood on the bedsheets! I ended my trip shortly after this and this hotel was a big part of the reason why.
1.0 Poor
Cons: The rooms were not clean at all my daughter has found used condom ..No soap at all anywhere .It was nightmare we couldn’t rest at all as we afraid that we might catch some disease .
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Location, price and staff
Cons: Really dirty toilets and rooms not that clean. Bedding was uncomfortable. Shame but easy things to rectify:)
Hôtel La Citadelle Metz - MGallery - Metz - Building
5
8.4 Excellent (2,478 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Opened in 2005, Hotel de la Citadelle, near the historic and cultural heart of Metz, is worthy of top recognition for high-end hotels. A large military building, built in 1559 to preserve Metz square, conquered by King Henry II. This simple and pure building has 68 rooms: 2 suites, 4 meeting rooms, 1 lounge bar, 1 gourmet Michelin starred restaurant "le Magasin aux vivres", directed by Christophe Fosse.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, onsite parking, beds were comfortable, room was spacious, quiet, restaurant
Cons: The shower was weird with no curtain or glass so water was getting everywhere.

Cons: Lack of shower screen.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff, great location
Cons: Shower
7.0 Good
Pros: The location of this hotel is very good and parking despite being charged 15 Euros is practical. Room are comfortable.
Cons: This hotel needs updating and efficient cleaning staff can not hide 10-years old fittings. Everything is functional and clean but deserve updating.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a bit difficult to find but thanks to Navi all went well. Metz is difficult with traffic. Hotel has Parking right with Hotel. Bed and room was luxury and very nice ambiance. Bed was super dormy, I slept like a princess, thanks! Breakfast was included and very well presented. I had my 3 petit café and was happy
Cons: Bathroom is very nice but bath in edge with showerbrause but no curtains, so you either sit on edge or in bath tub to get a shower - or you wet the whole floor. Sitting on edge was no problem to me but seems not practical for the 70+ generation - if renovations are in future, please keep this in mind & perhaps a walk-in shower is nowadays more practical? Just a side note, not critique
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building is 500 yrs old and was built as part of a military fort. The rehab is very new and has five star furnishings, finishes, accommodations and services. The staff was ultra friendly and could not have been more helpful. Short stroll to town (5 min) and Metz is very cool.
Cons: Nothing to complain about. And I'm normally a grumpy old man about things
5.0 Okay
Cons: the brasserie restaurant
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Room where excellent and toiletries are of a good standard
Cons: the over the bath shower was loose

Pros: We stayed on two separate recent occasions. This is a good central location and the hotel is basic (no evening meal) BUT excellent simple value for money. First room had especially tiny shower and wc - second room was a little more generous which was better. If visiting Metz and watching cost I can recommend this.
Cons: As noted above tiny first bathroom was a little challenging but overall experience perfectly good on two occasions. Car parking might be an issue for a long stay but late afternoon arrival worked out OK.

8.6 Excellent (1,314 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the charm of the bedroom and its size, the mixture of antics for the furniture and modern equipement for the bathrom, the exceptiooal view on the cathedral.
Cons: nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was right in the center of Metz. Everything from the garage, to the cathedral, to many restaurants and shops were all within walking distance.
Cons: No shower head in my room (third floor cathedral view) only a bath tub. If you’re someone who prefers showers over baths like my husband it might be a problem for you.
7.0 Good
Pros: Central, nice place
Cons: Night receptionist, I had to get a taxi at 6am the night desk guy was clueless, did not know where to ring or where to look.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very helpful. Carried luggage to our room on 3rd floor and sourced information on buses. Location is opposite the cathedral and near to the river. Nice evening meal. No fridge in room.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is superbly located opposite the cathedral and within the nicest part of the old town, full of nice cafes, independent shops and the covered food market. The rooms are individually decorated with character and in keeping with the historic nature of the building; the bathroom and toilet appear recently renovated - request a room with cathedral view (although courtyard rooms are quieter). Comfortable bed, good wifi, a kettle + tea/coffee. I did not take breakfast but colleagues gave good reports! There is an electric bus from outside the hotel to the train station (otherwise a 20 min walk).
Cons: There are a lot of steep steps, and a step from the pavement, so not at all suitable for old or infirm or guests with heavy suitcases. In the annex the only fire escape is a narrow wooden staircase. The shower, although strong, is handheld (not my preference). If your room is in the annex you must walk a short distance along to the street to the main hotel for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is charming and characterful with antique furnishings, rugs and paintings throughout. Our room was of a good size, comfortable and beautifully furnished in a 'shabby chic' style. The bathroom, however, was thoroughly modern with a large and efficient shower. It's also great to find a French hotel which provides a kettle in your room. The breakfast was a superb array of fresh fruit and a selection of fruit tarts alongside the usual cereal, croissants, bread, cheeses, meats etc. - a great start to the day. The location couldn't be better, right next to the cathedral with discounted parking at the Theatre carpark is a few minutes' walk across the river.
Cons: Nothing.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Location
Cons: The room was completely small and breakfast was without any choice for vegetarian. They didn't have even cheese for breakfast.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was great, dinner ok. Room very small, but ok for overnight stay
Cons: Bed, it’s ok if there is only one person. However, if there are two sharing you need to remove all arms and legs as there is seriously not enough room to sleep with these limbs still attached.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and welcoming staff, good location, tasty breakfast
Cons: Quite small room, probably the smallest room I've stayed in:) But all needed was there.
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful, comfortable beds, decent breakfast, great location for exploring the city on foot, good value for money.
Cons: Shower cubicle very awkward shape, tap was so small you could hardly wash your hands, bathroom very small in general. No space in the car park. Had to reprogram TV before we could use it.
