It was right in the center of Metz. Everything from the garage, to the cathedral, to many restaurants and shops were all within walking distance.
No shower head in my room (third floor cathedral view) only a bath tub. If you’re someone who prefers showers over baths like my husband it might be a problem for you.
Central, nice place
Night receptionist, I had to get a taxi at 6am the night desk guy was clueless, did not know where to ring or where to look.
the charm of the bedroom and its size, the mixture of antics for the furniture and modern equipement for the bathrom, the exceptiooal view on the cathedral.
The hotel is superbly located opposite the cathedral and within the nicest part of the old town, full of nice cafes, independent shops and the covered food market. The rooms are individually decorated with character and in keeping with the historic nature of the building; the bathroom and toilet appear recently renovated - request a room with cathedral view (although courtyard rooms are quieter). Comfortable bed, good wifi, a kettle + tea/coffee. I did not take breakfast but colleagues gave good reports! There is an electric bus from outside the hotel to the train station (otherwise a 20 min walk).
There are a lot of steep steps, and a step from the pavement, so not at all suitable for old or infirm or guests with heavy suitcases. In the annex the only fire escape is a narrow wooden staircase. The shower, although strong, is handheld (not my preference). If your room is in the annex you must walk a short distance along to the street to the main hotel for breakfast.
The hotel is charming and characterful with antique furnishings, rugs and paintings throughout. Our room was of a good size, comfortable and beautifully furnished in a 'shabby chic' style. The bathroom, however, was thoroughly modern with a large and efficient shower. It's also great to find a French hotel which provides a kettle in your room. The breakfast was a superb array of fresh fruit and a selection of fruit tarts alongside the usual cereal, croissants, bread, cheeses, meats etc. - a great start to the day. The location couldn't be better, right next to the cathedral with discounted parking at the Theatre carpark is a few minutes' walk across the river.
