9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing Onsen experience. Lovely and very helpful staff. Spotless traditional rooms and perfect Onsen. Would recommend to everyone. The Kiseki 8 course dinner was an experience in itself. It might be a little pricey but so glad we did it.
Cons: Nothing. It’s great. Quiet location with regular buses to all the main towns.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing food, really relaxing atmosphere. Staff were very friendly
Cons: All good
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This has been one of the nicest place I’ve stayed at! Food was incredible, staff super lovely, baths are amazing (the outdoor ones are great), decor was lovely, room massive and comfy. Location is off the beaten path which makes it a calm and relaxing experience
Cons: For that price, a shuttle to the main train station would be nice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was amazing, they were friendly and went above and beyond. The natural hot spring was amazing. The room was lovely, great facilities, free drinks and snack area, and game area. The dinner and breakfast was an interesting experience.
Cons: Our room was located near the stairs, but the walls in general are quite thin, so we could hear people walking upstairs, down the stairs and outside in the morning which woke us up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Top class accomodation and fantastic service, an authentic Japanese experience. Our room was spacious, clean and much bigger than I thought it would be, the on site onsen was an added bonus you could even book private bathing.
Cons: I was a bit concerned that I had made the wrong choice when walking from the bus to the accommodation as the surrounding houses looked very run down. I couldn’t have been more wrong, the accomodation was lovely and very private.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great ryokan. Bedrooms are traditionally well decorated. Nice infrastructure with private honsen available. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Very friendly staff.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Felt like a very authentic Onsen experience with the setting, food, accommodation, traditional clothing. Location was secluded, which for us was great as it was a nice break from the cities but could feel isolated for others. Hanoke doesn’t have one centre so this accommodation while secluded does a good job of being near all the main attractions. There is a convenient bus stop a short walk from the hotel on main road which serves the surrounding area, and all the main sights were only a short journey away. The buses sometimes ran on their own time though which was very unlike the rest of Japan! Staff were very friendly Food was very good value and very nicely prepared. Some of the flavours wouldn’t be for everyone, particularly for breakfast but we felt it was more authentic as a result. Some free soft and alcoholic (eg beer, wine and sake) drinks were also available in the lounge which was a nice touch, although these can’t be brought into the dining area. We really enjoyed the private Onsen which again was beautifully done, with a very nice adjoining bathroom and was easy to book.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food was the best part of the experience here, followed swiftly by the authentic Ryokan style accommodations. Every meal was exceptional and met the highest standards of Japanese deliciousness. The location was very accessible to the bus lines that traverse the Hakone area. This place is a special gem in Hakone.
6.3 Good
Pros: The private baths --- Oh they are so beautiful and tranquil. Don't miss it if you stay there. There is also a very generous open bar in the lobby where you could share in traditional japanese drinks such as sake/beer/tea at any time. The surrounding area is very quiet and peaceful. Good for recharging yourself.
Cons: We booked the Standard room with private bath. This was situated in the old wing of the Ryokan. The entire wing, including the room, had a musky smell (it was not the onsen smell). The room we had looked like it last had a face-lift in 1985 or something. Wallpaper was peeling, water stains on the walls, cracks and holes in the wall that is not properly patched... I have attached photos. Completely not what you'd expect considering the cost of the room is about USD550 per night! The 'private hot spring bath' is also in a tiny 2mx2m (max) bathroom. We didn't even use it. The pictures are a bit deceiving... Food quality was good, but nothing to call home about. TLDR; Place is a bit pricey, but if you decide to stay, make sure you get the newly renovated rooms. I think most of the sparkling reviews are from people who stayed in the newer rooms.
Hakone Yuyado Zen - Hakone - Building
4
9.1 Excellent (264 reviews)
Overview Reviews
You can enjoy hot springs to your heart's content as all rooms are equipped with a semi outdoor hinoki (cypress) bath. Our head chef's pride is original kaiseki cuisine, prepared with carefully selected ingredients such as fresh seafood from Sagami Bay and Suruga Bay, and legendary brand wagyu beef.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, private, clean
Cons: Tricky to get to, but worth it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best part of a 10-day trip to Japan! Hotel is clean and modern. It is expensive, but for the quality, cost was comparable to similar places in Hakone. The food, service, and in-rooom Onsen make it worth the price. Food was incredible and pretty much an adventure for every meal. Fresh ingredients and imaginative, like a top-notch omakase / tasting menu in the West. Very Japanese though (think smoked herring for breakfast), so be prepared for the adventure. The breakfast and dinner are more than enough so you don't need lunch. We ordered Japanese whiskey and sake with dinner both nights and it was reasonably priced and delicious. The onsen on our balcony made taking a dip in the hot spring / mineral bath super easy b/c it was right in the room and you could hop in for 5 minutes a few times a day with no big production. We stayed in what I think was the least expensive room, the Forest View Western Double, and it was spacious and comfy. The onsen is on a sort-of half-open balcony, you can see by the photos it's not fully open to provide privacy, but was good enough to provide natural light and fresh air. We had a view of the trees right outside the hotel and it was nice and green. It's a little "planes, trains, and automobiles" to get there, so if you can stay two nights it will really make it more relaxing to get to enjoy one full day. We never left the hotel except for a short hike on the one full day we had there (trail just outside the hotel) and enjoyed the trees, lake view, and fresh air. If you have books and a tablet / laptop (internet was great, we streamed some shows on netflix) you can relax at the hotel all day (either in your room or on the balcony on the second floor).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is beautiful! The staff was very helpful and attentive. The breakfast room was included a beautiful view, and was very extensive. Dinner was also wonderful with many courses. Each day was a different menu. The hot springs private bath was beyond wonderful, and the rooms were spacious and clean.
Cons: The directions to get to the hotel were slightly confusing. We took the bus from Odawara Station to Palace Hotel Hakone-mae. As instructed by the property, we were to call once we arrived at that stop/hotel. We thought we would ask the hotel to contact the property, as we do not have an international plan on our phones. However, the bus dropped us off at the Palace Hotel stop, and there was no hotel. Apparently it had been torn down. We were left on the side of the road with nothing around us, and were quite confused. Thankfully, another property shuttle drove by and gave us a ride (so kind), but an update to the website (or an email) would have been appreciated. Furthermore, we didn't know if dinner was a specific time or during a window of time. It turns out that it was at a specific time. Unbeknownst to me, we missed our dinner time when we were at the side of the road (as once connected to wifi, I had an email wondering where I was). Thankfully, we were able to eat at a later time. At times, there was somewhat of a language barrier with the specific staff member assigned to us; however, we were in Japan, and we don't expect that hotels should have to have to speak English to cater to us. The hotel provides garments to wear to breakfast and dinner. These are very comfortable; however, they only had one size available in the women's clothing. A variety of sizes might be nice. In men's, they offered two sizes.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen and meals were great.
Cons: It is a bit remote and long ride by bus or taxi from the train in Odawara.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place - we had a lovely stay. Food was excellent and staff very helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy bed. Typical Japanese. Very tasty food. Staff were extremely courteous
Cons: Rather dark room but nothing else wrong
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was beautiful and peaceful!! And all the staff was nice and thoughtful! Definitely try their breakfast and dinner, which will surprise you. And the best thing is the indoor nature hot spring!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast were great
Cons: Larger/wider slippers for outside the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire experience was relaxing and memorable. Our room was perfect, with a view of Mt. Fuji from our private Onsen. The staff was always friendly, helpful and anticipated our needs. A great place to stay and unwind.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very cozy room. Very calm. Placed in forest.
Cons: A little bit far from Togendai station. There is no convenient facility near this place.
Overview Reviews
Located in Hakone (Gora), Onsen Guesthouse HAKONE TENT - Hostel is within a 15-minute walk of Hakone Open Air Museum and Hakone Gora Park. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly stuff. The private Onsens were amazing. Super nice and quite location.
Cons: Only that you could hear every footstep and sounds from the other guest. But kind of logical bcs of the architecture. Not really a minus bcs you should know when you book this guesthouse.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Traditional house with two private onsens. Fully equipped kitchen with free tea/coffee. Really close to Gora station so perfect to go around Hakone region.
Cons: The futon bed is not really comfortable but for a few nights it’s okay. Some doors are really noisy in the rooms. The staff could speak a better English.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cool mix of traditional and modern design, very atmospheric, social space to meet people with a lot of care for the details. The futons were very comfortable and on top there is two private Onsen - perfect.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen was great. I wish I'd tried both. Pizza delicious and staff friendly. Close to train station (take the underpass instead of walking around though!)
Cons: There was a giant wasp in my room but one of the staff members removed it for me quickly. I also would have liked separate showers to the onsen as if you wanted a quick wash but they were occupied then you were stuck. It was a bit creaky and noise does travel a bit but they offer ear plugs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, super comfy futon, spacious room, and best of all room included use of the onsens which were indoor and private. Perfect if you want the experience but arent ready for public nudity or have tattoos. We regretted not getting the breakfast, make sure you get it cause if you're staying in the area you'll find nothing open till after 10am. The onsens were perfect too. It was so easy to get to too! Close to the Gora station.
Cons: I had no issue with anything, but things people who are extra picky might consider: squeaky floors (its a traditional building, probably been there a hot minute) and there are some spiders (large ones) in a few dark corners (you're surrounded by nature sooooo yeah unavoidable)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was fantastic, the staff were friendly a breakfast was home made and really nice :)
Cons: That I didnt book to stay there longer
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The bar and common area downstairs is a great place to relax and chill with friends. I also appreciated that there was a kitchen area that we could use to prepare food and to eat. Although I didn't use it, there are two onsens on site! There's one for smaller groups and one for larger groups. Also, the staff speaks English well and are very easy to communicate with.
Cons: It's up in the mountains so you'll have to take a 30 minute train ride up from the main town area and there is quite a steep uphill walk to get there. It's about 5 minutes from the train station though so not too bad.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I really appreciate the two bath with hot spring water. I also appreciate the cleaning toilets.
Cons: No air conditioners in toilets. In general is not necessary in Hakone but summer 2019 was super warm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The onsens were adorable, the staff were wonderful and it was easy to find and spotlessly clean
Cons: That you couldn't pay by card. A little difficult when there is no nearby ATM in the evening. Mostly poor planning on my fault though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The tatami rooms are lovely, and the onsen was incredible. Also note that this is one of the very few places where you get to enjoy an onsen as a different-sex couple without having to reserve a private bath.
Cons: There's nothing to complain about. It's a small hostel, but everything worked great and considering the excellent price, we could not have expected a better experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, warm hospitality. The staff is very nice. The onsen is great. We got a spacious room with a nice view.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The views from the outside common room as well as the rooms were amazing. The Onsen was great as were the staff
Cons: A wonderful place to stay. Would recommend taking the bus or taxi to the hotel from the station if you have luggage as its all very uphill
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything
Cons: Our room was on a noisy road
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff are helpful and great fun, the hostel has a large public area, great for meeting people. Onsen both outdoor and indoor, also great place to meet people
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved this place. The staff were so helpful with great English. The communal space has a really great set up. Only managed to use the outdoor Onsen once, sadly. But it was wonderful :) free coffee in the morning is always a plus
Cons: The wi fi connection was very poor.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, facilities were good. Would definitely stay here again
6.0 Good
Pros: Great onsen! Beautiful view from the hostel's balcony
Cons: You get only one towel... for all the time you stay Extra towel is extra charge The room had bed smell
5.4 Okay
Pros: There were plenty of showers and the WiFi was good.
Cons: The staff were quite rude and unhelpful when we were there. The curtains to the Pods provided no protection from the light and when the light was on in your pod everyone could see inside so you had no privacy. Also (nothing the hostel could do about this except soundproof the pods more) but the noise of other guests was very high - both mornings we were staying there we got woken up by people’s alarms going off and then being snoozed multiple times.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, tranquil setting and arrangement. Beautiful common area and well equipped kitchen. Staff are very friendly.
Cons: The women's dorm room is in the basement so is mouldy and smelly. The mixed one on the other hand was amazing, on the top floor. Great views from the top floor including a floor to ceiling window in the shower looking out into the mountains.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Facilities
Cons: Location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen! There is a little trail you can find that leads up to the hostel behind buildings and through the trees.
Fukuzumiro - Hakone - Building

9.0 Excellent (1,023 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at FUKUZUMIRO in Hakone (Tonosawa), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hakone Hot Springs and Hakone Kowakien Yunessun. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Pros: the hot springs themselves are wonderful. Rooms are spacious but very basic. Meals are all in your room. Limited flexibility on food. Staff very pleasant
Cons: Overall a tired location showing its age at over 100 yrs
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous rustic place with really spacious rooms and friendly staff. It’s beside a river and is really atmospheric and the food is absolutely delicious. The onsen is also fabulous with lots of space for changing, etc
Cons: The fact that there is no private bathroom is a pain. Also, having stayed for 2 nights, we didn’t meet any other guests because the dining is private but that’s also part of the charm.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The place was very nice and the staff very good. The place is looking a bit tired, especially the baths (onsen)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff
Cons: The breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely stunning location and building. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, and we had a fabulous dinner and breakfast in our room! Loved falling asleep to the sound of the river - what a dream.
Cons: Our room was a bit far from the bathroom, but it wasn’t a big deal!
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff was really nice, great food, spacious bedroom, nice public and private onsen (although the water was really too hot) and 3 minutes from bus station.
Cons: It was extremely humid in the room, and everywhere was quite dusty including the public restroom which wasn’t very clean. Also the onsen really too hot.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A traditional japanese hotel with friendly staff. Very good location and nice japanese architecture. Very delicious foods. It’s said one of my favorite Japanese writer Kawabata Yasunari also stayed in this hotel and wrote his famous novel ‘Idol dancer’
Cons: Could provide natto in breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a fantastic place! I almost ended up not booking Fukuzumiro because of some bad reveiws I read here, but I am so so glad I did. This Ryokan is exactly as described. It is a traditional Japanese inn which was built over 100 years ago by a river and the rooms are simple with tatami mats and chabudai dining tables. If you are expecting a modern hotel with soft comfortable beds and a rain shower in a big marble bathroom - this is not the option for you. If you want to get a traditional Japanese experience, waking up & falling asleep to the sound of the river, taking a hot thermal bath morning and evening at the onsen, eat amazing Japanese food and feel 100% relaxed and at peace, this is where you should go! the service was excellent, the food to die for and the location great - close to the train station and with a bus stop taking you to most sights in Hakone just outside the door. I have a fobia for bugs which was my biggest concern prior to arriving given that the hotel is literally in the forest, but didn't hear or see any inside the room during our two-day stay.
Cons: The bathroom on our floor was really small, I'm 1,70cm and couldn't sit on the toilet without my knees pushing on to the wall in front of me. Not exactly a problem, but something to be aware of.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. The dinner that comes with the half board room was delicious. We got to try many different dishes over five courses. The hot spring is very relaxing, they have one for families/couples which is first come, first serve, and the others are divided among men and women access depending on the time of day so you can try different styles. I loved the traditional feel of this ryokan.
Cons: The rooms and facilities were a bit run down. The furniture was not in good shape and the windows didn't seal properly .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifull place , typical Japanese Onsen and lots of nice surprises !! Dinner and breackfast was just great !! Staff is very nice too.
Cons: Nothing was bad realy. Anjoyed every thing. We will be back for sure.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is very comfortable and clean. The location is great for transport links to different attractions in the area. Most of all the host Kana is very kind and helpful, and her advice was invaluable for getting the most out of my time there.
Cons: In the shared dormitory there were no lockers for luggage (that said, I left my luggage there and there were no problems).
5.0 Okay
Pros: A 100 plus year old building - used to be the post office, turned into s hostel. We do not usually stay in hostels, so Perhaps our expectations were a bit too high. Conveniently located close to Hakone Tozan bus stops.
Cons: Sheets and pillowcases were too small for the beds and nowhere to tuck in even if they were big enough. Had to hire s towel. Owner was very friendly and helpful.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness of staff and relaxing atmosphere.
Cons: On a busy main road
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I recommend to stay here, it was my first time in a hostel and was a very good experiencr. The place is clean and cozy and the host is just anazing and is so helpful. Was a pleasure:)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Kana is grrat, she gave us perfect advices!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a very good hotel. And Kara is so nice, helped us a lot to find local attractions. She also made some dessert for us after she knew that day is Chinese mid autumn festival. highly recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kane was amazing she had everything organised for us when we arrived, answered all our questions helped arrange and plan our visit and went completely above and beyond. Lovely place and had everything we could want, can't rate highly enough!
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely host who was very helpful and friendly. Very clean, nice facilities.
Cons: Little bit pricey for a bunk in a shared dorm. But maybe that's just Hakone prices.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hostess was awesome
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The host was very nice: she shared some food with us and many useful tips for tourism. The location is close to two convenience stores and not too far from the train station.
Cons: As usual in Japan, the walls are thin enough that you can hear a lot from outside the room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful and clean location in the middle of a lush forest in Hakone. Facility is easy to reach by the bus or their shuttle. We were greeted at the parking lot and led to the front desk. We arrived a bit early but were provided tea and snacks, and had our bags held at the hotel so we can explore. The hotel is extremely clean and has a very minimal aesthetic that works well with the greenery. The public bath has all of your amenities and has clear directions for foreigners or anyone new to the experience. We got a room with a private bath with overlooks the pond and forest. I’m not sure how they are towards tattoos, but I covered my small one just in case with a foundation patch. They provide yukatas to wear around the property and rooms have instructions on how to wear it properly. The food was amazing, definitely a memorable experience. It was a multiple course meal including dessert and definitely got us full. Overall, hotel is clean, staff is VERY friendly and accommodating, and non-Japanese guests/English guests have nothing to worry about.. Although it was a bit out of our price range, I believe the whole experience was worth the price and I will visit again. Thank you again for a wonderful experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the restaurant, room, and public osen were nice and relaxing to see
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service, beautiful rooms, private onsen and delicious food
Cons: Wished the noise from the road wasn’t so loud
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best place I've stayed in for many years. I felt at home. The dinners were divine. The staff is lovely and friendly. The rooms are great. I recommend to all! Thank you very much for your hospitality :)
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: food need to improve
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good setting, location and excellent food.
Cons: Service appears to be a bit distant. No attention to detail I experienced in other Ryokans in similar price point. Perhaps you really need Japanese frontline staff to make it feel authentic? Wifi in 1st floor rooms don't work and the staff didn't rectify even when they said they will.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is quite pricy, but for a reason. Super authentic Japanese style and perfect service. The open-air in-room hot spring tub gives you a perfect view and tranquility of bamboos and trees. Bed is HUGE. You can wear the kimono PJ while in the hotel, pretty immersive experience. The public hot spring cannot be reserved for single group use, but it is open for quite long hours, and you can easily find private time to enjoy. Kaiseki breakfast is spectacular and very fulfilling. You won't regret if you need to save money just for that one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the privacy and the relaxation aspects. The staff were so respectful and actually anticipated my needs before I articulated them. The room was enormous, well stocked and so comfortable.
Cons: The only thing I can think of, and it is minor, is that some staff had poor English and could not understand what we were asking. But this didn’t detract from the stay and they went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed in the end.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food, location, service, shuttle directly to the hotel from Hakone-Yumoto station.
Cons: Price might be a little high, but superb food, service and room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Cons: The breakfast was very average
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel staff are nice and helpful. The hotel has a nice ambience
Cons: Hotel restaurant has limited seats for the people checked in at the hotel. It causes inconvenience for late check ins.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and serene. Beautiful garden. Love the hot spring bath in our room. Room was spacious, clean and bed was comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Well managed facility with friendly staff. In room and communal onsen are excellent and meticulous!
Cons: Location is best accessed by self driving, although a shuttle is available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The kindess of the staff was super! Very nice people and very helpfull. We lost an suitcase in a bus and they did everything they could to help us. the hotel was clean, with a nice onsen outside. Everything was clean.
Cons: I cant think of anything what i didn't like.
6.7 Good
Pros: I liked the outdoors area, very pretty. Room with personal hot spring was nice. The toiletries were nice, each person got a little bag of toiletries.
Cons: Definitely not worth the money. The hot springs area was ok. No extra touches. They had 3 beat up massage chairs outside and an area you could get massage but they were tables in open area blocked by a sheet. No gym. No use of hot springs if you have tattoos (Japanese culture, not really hotel’s fault). Food was ok.
5.4 Okay
Pros: SPA and Onsen facilities as well as breakfast
Cons: Not a great option for a family with children. We had the deluxe room with tatami area and the sleeping option for the kids with a rather thin mattress on the floor was not great. The price is really high to sleep on the floor. The room price is above 600 euro and not worth the room. The onsen in the room and SPA was good though. The breakfast was also good. Almost everything was in Japanese and the staff spoke little english but definitely tried.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the spa in the hotel and the prices are reasonable.
Cons: If they can add more options to the western breakfast

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is nice. Amazing facilities and incredible onsens. Lovely staff and really great food. But the best part are the kimonos set they offer to the guest to walk around the hotel.
Cons: Nothing to deslike there
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Food and facilities were terrific. Our room assistant Saki was adorable and went way out of her way to make us happy and comfortable. I emailed the hotel from the train station to give them our ETA and they answered within 5 min that they would pick us up. It was super fancy Mercedes .
Cons: The tatami mats in room smelled a bit strongly. Probably were new. Perhaps some sort of candle or aromatherapy would have helped.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Have lived in different higher class ryokans around Hakone-sumitomo and Gora areas. Gora Kadan is the best experience I have ever had. The ryokan is built largely of wooden. The long corridor at lobby floor with wooden foldable doors on both side look fantastic. All the wooden structure and furnitures are well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. I booked 2 rooms, one with private hot spring. The outdoor hotspring is built like a garden. Looks really nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. This time, I travelled with my kids and also my mother. The hotel arranged a private dining room with higher chairs for us so that my mom could sit comfortably for the meals. Also, as my mom has to walk very slowly, we were late for some scheduled activities like dinner and breakfast. The staff was patient and waited for us politely. On the day we check out, it was a rainy date, they use two Benz luxury saloons to drive us to the train Station. The food is of very good quality. We have both sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu for the dinner. The kids are served with kids menu. While the starter and main course are delicious, the desert is also awesome - a hollow orange filled with orange jelly, an artwork in addition to its good taste. The facilities are good. My kids enjoyed the warm swimming pool very much (they really like to swim). Towels are ready for use at swimming pool side. My wife and I enjoyed the Kadan Spa, a relaxing experience. All in all, a very memorable experience for my family.
Cons: Suggest the swimming pool can open for kids at earlier time.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful experience nice food and people
Cons: Expensive and time of check in and check out is very streight 15 true 11
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Place was beyond amazing from the architecture to the food and just the whole experience actually!!! You really felt like you were transported in time. Love the complimentary kimono outfits too. Staff was incredibly nice and offered impeccalbe service! The traditional food being serviced in the room was such a wonderful, unique dining experience. My kids were so happy here too! Most unique hotel experience ever!
Cons: Toilet room had a slight smell but that could have been the sulfer smell from the hot springs maybe... Bed was also not very comfortable but I know that the low profile "futon" style is to make it look more traditional Japanese style but I would suggest they use a cool/breathable memory foam mattress type instead.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Private dinning in room - Excellent variation of dinner dishes and service. The private bath is also an experience you shouldn't miss.
Cons: maybe the resting rooms after the hot baths could be bit bigger
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely breathtaking property with amazing service. The dinner served in room was out of this world and a real experience. The public baths were a must also. Would be silly to miss out on these
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The attendant, staff, service, room, facilities and environment were fantastic.
Cons: The kaiseki dinner was abit underwhelming.

Pros: Nice variety of both traditional Japanese and European dishes. Perhaps the orange juice could be freshly squeezed.
Cons: Better later and variety of bar facilities in lounge areas to encourage people to inter-mingle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hot springs hotel with amazing facilities. + hot springs bath (also there are private baths) + comfortable rooms, good size of a bed + the stoning views + breakfasts and dinners (honestly we've never had so amazing experience before)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an incredible experience in Hakone. Everything was just perfect: the room, the service, the food, onsen... Definitely would love to come back!
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Think like this: you spend the same amount of money and received same perfect service as you did in some five star hotels in central Tokyo, besides, you can have a great experience for taking a bath in spring water. I will certainly come again if I travel to Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A Beautiful and luxurious hotel near Lake Ashi. The onsen is wonderful along with great hotel facilities which make this a perfect vacation. The room is big and the bed is comfortable. Breakfast is great and dinner was amazing! Also wonderful location close to Ashi lake and most of the attractions there, very easy to get by with the bus anywhere you want.
Cons: Nada!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location with great views. The hotel is very convenient for using the ropeway and cruise. The facilities were very nice, especially the baths. The dinners were exceptional.
Cons: The price was a bit high but the hotel was too notch. There was no information about the area walking trails so it was difficult to leave the hotel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great staff and amazing view. Hotel is clean and very nice. Located 2 min walk from the bus station and hakone's cable car.
Cons: The hotel is pretty isolated but very close to the bus station and worth the amazing view. Food was the same every day (Japanese style)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Having an open-air bath is great!! You wake up in the morning and take a dip and again before bed! You get to wear a yukata and totally indulge in the experience.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Not a great room, small and no lake view. Restaurant was busy and food was average - felt like school dinners. Staff not helpful. 10am check out is ridiculous
Cons: Nice views lakeside from lobby

9.5 Excellent
Pros: To live in Japanese style for a day.
Cons: That we were not able to see Mount Fuji. It was under clouds. Nothing about the hotel, all was perfect.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good food and location
Cons: Was fine
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really nice, the futon beds were comfortable, the onsen in the open air was really nice, and the Japanese dinner and breakfast experience was amazing. We recommend the hotel!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A splurge for us but worth every penny. When we checked in we were provided with yukata (a lightweight, casual kimono worn in summer) and slippers and shown to our simple but beautiful traditional Japanese-style room. In the evening, we had an amazing multi-course dinner (an equally amazing breakfast was included as well), and the staff took into account my dietary restrictions and provided delicious replacements. For a small fee, they offered time in a private onsen. Because of my tattoos, I'm restricted to tourist/tattoo-friendly or private onsen, and public onsen are usually gender segregated, so this was the perfect way for my partner and I to relax together for the evening. The hotel was clean, quiet, and the staff was absolutely wonderful throughout our stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great onsen and beautiful, spacious room. It was a nice stay in Hakone.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The meal was exceptional. They will modify your meal to whatever you like. We loved walking around the neighborhood as well. We found a quaint little karaoke bar that has had plenty of foreigners come through (right out of the hotel, right at the intersection, and down a few blocks, its on the 2nd floor of a restaurant--verify drink prices at the beginning). The private onsen was an amazing experience--the public onsen was good. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. Employees at the tourist information center and the romancecar ticket counter knew the hotel by name and let us know which bus stop to get off at (sengokuhara Bunk Center-mae.
Cons: The private onsen should be available to hotel guest in the morning--we were only there for one night and would have loved to get another visit in before we left.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was good, near to the bus stop. Dinner was scrumptious and breakfast was light. Onsen was good.
Cons: Pillow was too soft.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was nice and it wasn't crowed at all. Even in the public bath I was usually alone. The food was pretty good as well.
Cons: I asked for a room with a futon but got one with a normal bed. The pillow for the bed was basically paper thin as well. It seem normal for Japanese hotels to have thin pillows but this was even thinner than normal.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This ryokan is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a true Japanese experience. The hospitality was outstanding and the food was delicious. We would recommend this ryokan highly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The great Japanese service.. Always there.. And the futons always comfy. Good location with bus right outside to go everywhere. Japanese food good.
Cons: Just a little dated and tired...pricing seems a little high even though the whole Hakone area is expensive

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great!
Cons: Dinner was okay. But the breakfast was great!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: When I entered this property's reception, I was amazed by the greenery outside of the big window. The property is located on the slope of the mountain. Therefore, it is surrounded by trees, which is super relaxing and pleasant. Breakfast and dinner are provided by the property as you would imagine it would be extremely difficult to find food on a mountain early in the morning and late at night. The breakfast was SO GOOD AND BIG. We just had breakfast and won't feel hungry until very late in the afternoon! The dinner was again very well prepared. My dad cannot eat seafood. The chef made special arrangement for him which is super considerable. The onsen experience was good as well in terms of the functionality. There are three private onsen rooms which you can use (first come first serve) whenever they are available. You can also lock the door. I didn't use it because there is only 1 shower head which won't allow two persons to shower at the same time. The public onsen is good enough though. Also, the property hosts only a very limited amount of rooms, so you won't bump into a huge crowd when using the public onsen The free shuttle service to the nearest train station was very helpful as well even though taking the bus is way easier and closer (literally 30 secs walk)!
Cons: There is really nothing I didn't like. However I think the hotel is quite aged so the onsen facilities look quite old. But it doesn't hurt anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The different "onsen" options were fabulous. Private family onsen, public onsen and onsen bath in your room offer great options for whatever you are looking for. Meals were wonderfully arranged and delicious. Location is high up in the Hakone national park and in between two train stations. A bus stop right in front of the building make it most convenient to arrive.
Cons: We are still looking for things we didn't like. So far, everything was exceptional.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bus stop right outside hotel was very convenient and helped navigate region. Staff were very friendly and helpful, free coffee machine was a nice touch..... in room bath was really warm and clean. Breakfast and dinners provided were amazing.
Cons: The room we had was a semi open air bath. It was a little more closed off then we would have liked.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very helpful and friendly and the service is impeccable. The kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast are all very delicious.
Cons: Despite the insect netting over the windows, a few of the local bugs managed to get into our room in the evening. The hotel is not very central to the main tourist areas but is easily accessible by public bus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was awesome
10.0 Excellent

Pros: everything was amazing
Cons: everything was perfect
7.1 Good
Pros: Beautiful room and facility. super service. super meals — dinner very good breakfast huge tasty buffet. Nice baths off lobby facility and in room We loved wearing the traditional Japanese clothes provided by the hotel.
Cons: Expensive. Yunessan baths kitschy - made for kids. Location tricky to get to. Suggest taking buses instead of trains from odewara. Bus to/from yunessan (around the corner) was 35 mins. Train plus other bus to ten-yu was close to 90 minutes.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the outside bath on the balcony of our room which you could fill with hot springs water and relax after a days trekking around the region, and the Onsen themselves were very relaxing too.
Cons: Not much space or facility to put two suitcases and unpack. However the Ryokan feel to the bedroom made up for the lack of space, including the Kymonos which everyone in the hotel seemed to be wearing. The Tepanyaki restaurant was superb.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast spread was excellent. Impressed that we even get snow crabs during breakfast. There is also a shuttle to and from Gora which is super convenient.
Cons: The tub at the balcony could be larger. Maybe a mini onsen would be nice. The check-in was a bit slow. They could have told guests there is a drinks corner where guests could have a drink after a long journey to the hotel.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely stay here! Gorgeous location (we had to take a couple of buses to get there), delicious food, a comfortable room and the outdoor bath was a winning touch for us. I also appreciated the chefs preparing a veggie meal for myself last minute! Very friendly staff too
Cons: I wasn’t too found of paying an entry fee at the hotel bar after dinner, perhaps they have there reasons. A Shute bus from Hakone town would be nice but not overly necessary
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing service, gorgeous onsens, dinner was absolutely fantastic, the room was super comfortable. A real treat for yourself, if you like to feel you got what you paid- dont miss this place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Food and location good. Onsen facilities excellent. Lot of staff on reception and in dining areas, all with good English.
Cons: We disliked being hit with a 500 yen cover charge for going into the bar. Drinks are already expensive so this charge should be absorbed in the hotel/food and beverages prices.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is located in a mountain with very beautiful view. Good service, good location and good breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place to relax. Very clean and confortable with all the necessary amenities. You had the option to sleep in a Futon, but we chose regular beds. The public baths were fantastic! I really enjoyed being there. The dinner that was included in the pack was excellent! We really enjoyed our stay. 100% recommendable! We will definitely go back with our families.
Cons: It was a bit far from the bus stop. So we had to walk all the way up to the hill with our luggage, but apart from that everything was excellent!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a fantastic experience, delicious food, fantastic view, exceptionnally helpful staff ! We thank the Ten Yu staff for their delicate attentions on our honeymoon trip. They contributed to making it even better than we hoped.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place it is amazing, it was a new experience to have the outfit like japanese. The hot spring was a unique experience. very relaxing and new for us. We really recomended
Cons: One night we were not able to enter the women hot spring, we were not sure about why. Buy it was a shame
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was very nice.
Cons: Getting there was more difficult than anticipated. The buses were only once or twice per hour in the peak season so best to take taxi there.
6.3 Good
Pros: Liked “irori” fireplace.
Cons: The ladder to climb up to the attic type room was strait-vertical and hand rails were short to grab.
7.5 Good
Pros: A nice little hotel with good breakfast and a (small) onsen bath. Friendly staff.
Cons: The room was quite small and sloppily furnished considering the price I paid (N.B. stayed on Golden Week though.) If you come by train to Gora station, the hotel is located on the other side of the river, which means you have to undertake a small hike to get there (not optimal with lots of baggage).
7.5 Good
Pros: don't forget to take bus and check the last bus get back hotel
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfortable western style beds, shared bathroom was clean but old. Staff were friendly and kept luggage for free after check out. Beautiful surrounds, very quiet.
Cons: Location was ok - don't try to walk there from Gora station, it's a very steep hill. However, there is a regular bus which is included in your Hakone Free Pass
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is good. Location is good and accessible as well. Staff is helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a beautiful place, quiet and relaxing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Confortable, clean, staff friendly and helpfull
Cons: To access must with bus from gora station
9.6 Excellent
Pros: There is only one man working at the ryokan, but he is quite helpful and enthusiastic. The ryokan was not crowded when I came so we could freely enjoy the onsen on our own.
Cons: The beds dont look good. I would prefer the traditional bed in such a space. There are not many options for eating nearby, so probably the hotel should provide lunch and dinner options.
