The proximity to Paddington station was great! Also there are so many shops and restaurants nearby. There’s a lovely little park right across the street with a grassy area and several benches. They bring you breakfast in the morning—a little basket with breads, juice or milk, yogurt, cheese, jam, butter, and something chocolate. They provide an iron and ironing board. There was a very small TV and hotpot but I didn’t use them. There was a mug with a spoon and knife. Guests should be aware that Tony’s House is a walk-up, so if you have large or heavy bags, be prepared to carry them up one or more flights of stairs. I had a private room and it was the size of a medium/large bathroom, just enough to fit a twin bed, a lamp table, a sink, a wastebasket, and a wooden box for a closet. The only light came from the window and a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. The shared toilet was clean, although that will depend upon who you’re sharing it with. The shower was super small and less clean than the toilet. Depending upon the location of your room, you may have to walk up or down a half flight of stairs to get to the shower or toilet. All in all, I’d say Tony’s House is not disgusting and offers minimal comfort. Next hostel I book, I’ll probably pay the extra money for a private bathroom to ensure that I have a little more space and so I don’t have to climb stairs just to use the toilet.
Pros:When I checked in, which had to be after 3pm, my room key was handed to me immediately. No ID check, no extra credit card deposit etc.
Cons:4/5th floor walk up crazy stairs. Tiny room, to be expected from a small London hotel. Bed was bad, like bad. I literally had spring marks in my skin when I woke up.
