Picking up the vehicle in Gatwick was easy. What wasn't great was being told the vehicle had no insurance just the rental cost was done with Kayak. I had to pay nearly the same price as the rental for the insurance before they would let me leave with the vehicle. The vehicle was an older car 2019 with marks and scratches all over it. Near bald worn-out tires on the front and what sounded like metal to metal (brake pads worn out) on the front brakes. Having to stop right away after pick up and fill it with windshield washer fluid shows that they hadn't even looked at it before sending it straight out on another rental. I won't be using Europcar again.

Our pick up at Gatwick was dreadful. We waited an hour and a half past our scheduled pick up time for the car to be ready then when it arrived the keys were just handed over and the agent walked off. We did our own inspection, only to find serious damage (dents/scrapes) to the right wing and bumper of the vehicle. When we called the agent back he was so disinterested it was a joke! Eventually he agreed to write a note of the damage on the agreement so we felt comfortable that we wouldn’t be charged on returning the car. Drop off at Heathrow was easy and straightforward.

Kayak and carrentals were providing incomplete information about car rental process and cost. Quotation was given without insurance cost which once added inflated the overall cost to become very expensive and noncompetitive. This may be good for US residents with the right credit card.You must provide clear guidance on insurance issue and whether it is included or not. I paid four times the quoted price for half the period and my main concern was to return the vehicle ASAP rather than getting on with my trip. The trick of small print was not expected from big providers like you.

Pick-up was slow; they could have done with more staff. The ones who were there coped very well. The duty manager kept us all informed as to the progress of the queue, which was much appreciated. Dorota (Dorothy) checked me in and provided excellent customer service.See above.

Plan for some major extra costsThe car was clean and ran well, and they were very friendly on pickup and drop off.Your Canadian insurance is not applicable in Europe. Only in North America. Well, remember when you get extra insurance in Canada, and it’s $10 a day? Not in Europe. The first quote from the attendant was 42 pounds a day (that’s $70 CAD!!!). Yes. A day. When we started asking questions, it got better. Roadside assistance removed. 12 pounds. Our $200 quote for a rental turned into $550. However, all said and done, they treated us well, and the car was clean and comfortable (although check for a spare - we had none). When we talked to our friends who rented in Ireland, they made all the arrangements to rent from Canada, and the cost was identical. So the warning is, the cost you see is for the rental. Multiply it by 150 to 200% for the real cost.

Deceptive. Will rip you offThe car was clean. That's about it. Everything else is wrong with this agency.They don't advertise they will force you to buy insurance at 20 pounds a day or you won't be able to take the car! In addition, when you pay with a non-UK credit card (which of course accepts pounds) they will convert themselves to pound sterling and rob another 3.5% of the total. Avoid them if you have the chance.

Theft insurance is mandatory, and different than cThe car was fine. The folks in the car lot were friendly.During check-in, they told me I needed to either pay 10 pounds a day for theft insurance, or allow them to put 1,000 pounds on my car for deductible. They told me it was separate and different than coverage from my insurance provided by my airline credit card. It seemed wrong, but I was in a hurry. I have never paid "theft" insurance on a car rented in the UK, or anywhere else in Europe.
