La Serena hotels near Santo Domingo Church

Pros: The lady who cleaned and prepared the breakfast was always cheerful and so hard working we really appreciated all she did.

Cons: The impact of the political situation.

Pros: Very comfortable bed. The staffs are friendly and very helpful. Good location.

Pros: Really homely, clean and comfortable little place. Breakfast was great, the staff were so friendly, great location near the terminal, supermarket and the plaza. Kitchen was really well equipped, a little small but other travellers were very considerate. Great dining area, hot showers and even a heater in the room until 11pm which was a lovely touch. Have booked to stay again after our trip to the Elqui Valley.

Pros: So far one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in! Such comfy beds, and really clean. The staff are all really lovely and helpful, and it’s in a great location in the middle of town. A little walk to the beach but it’s worth it, they also have another hostel by the beach which looks amazing. Very sociable but not a party hostel, perfect for relaxing and meeting people! :)

Pros: The staff at front desk were very helpful. ALso, in the restaurant they try really hard and a very polite and friendly.

Cons: 1) The hotel lacks any soul. No character, no piped music, no ambience, no feeling of tranquility. Outdoor areas closed and nobody around. Quiet. Nowhere to sit and enjoy a drink, except in the restaurant at street level. More like an aparthotel. 2) It consists of a modern entrance, but then very old parts of the hotel. The rooms are not connected to the Lobby - they are all in an apartment block and you have to walk through very old parts of the hotel including NO LIFTS to get there. 3) No porter to offer help with your suitcases. We are mobile and able. but i did wander how an odler person would manage. 4) Each foor is fully external, like an old style motel with external walkways, and doors to each room. Our floor was 5, was very high and the verandah heights are very low! felt unsafe. 5) Standard rooms are old and small. Need more renovating. old bathroom. 5) Breakfast is poor quality. (staff though are very helpful!). 6) No tables to sit with laptops etc., only place is in the restaurant! (which they accomodated when we asked, but still very strange they have large areas with Old couches and they are not used, in dark areas of the hotel). Management you need to do more with this hotel!!! Staff try very hard and the management and owners are not providing a very good experience to their guests. Small changes would make a big difference to the experience!!

Pros: An older property situated about ten minutes walk from the beach and restaurants. Bedrooms comfortable and washing facilities were good. No cooking facilities in our particular room although I think that other rooms have them. The staff were very welcoming and were very helpful when it came to booking taxis, advising us of places to go, etc. Relaxed family atmosphere. It seemed to be in a safe area despite being accessed along a dirt road. Other families had children who seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Cons: The room had a toaster and a kettle as well as a large fridge. A hob would have been useful but in our particular room there wasn't much space for one. The other apartments seem to be larger. Very good value for money though, and we were visiting out of season.

Pros: Breakfast was very good and rich! Overall the place looked nice, with a beautiful pool just like the pictures. The apartments are spatious and clean

Pros: During the time of the solar eclipse, Serena Dream gave us not only a beautiful environment, perfect facilities, delicious food, but also the feeling of an old friend, the feeling of our own family. They drived us to rent a car and brought it back. Conny even called her husband to drive us to the airport. They did everything that a family member could do for you. Thanks Daniel! Thanks Maria! Thanks Serena Dream. Without you, there wouldn't be such a wonder trip of solar eclipse.

Cons: breakfast was poor, only instant coffee and everything was counted, the room was not really dirty but was missing a proper cleaning (rooms have corners)

Pros: The hotel was very clean. Linens were new and kept up well. Our bathroom was really clean. The ladies serving breakfast were very quick and did a good set breakfast of toast, ham, cheese and nescafe. The location was fantastic being so close to the bus terminal and walking distance to everything we needed. The staff were very friendly even though communication was difficult because my Spanish is basic. They let us use the fridge to put some of our cold groceries even though the fridge is for staff only.

Cons: The name should be Hotel Solaris, not Hostal. This is definitely a small hotel. There is only wifi in the lobby, which we knew about from previous reviews and the kitchen is for breakfast only, not for cooking your own means. There is no common areas besides the lobby with it's 3 "wifi chairs". Toilet in our room was broken. Someone did a hack job to try and fix the float mechanism so it didn't stick. Had a couple times where the tank didn't refill and I had to mess around with it. Things are always better when fixed properly, not with a piece of wooden trim siliconed inside the toilet tank.

Cons: It doesn’t have any common areas to hang out or to cook something. Breakfast is a joke.

Cons: Extremely cold we were shivering all night... and in one morning someone walked in on us even though it was early morning before the check out time.

Pros: I liked that there was a shared kitchen and a nice outoor seating area to have breakfast. Our room was small but comfortable for the just the two of us. It was less than a 5 minute walk to plaza d'armas, and there was hot water in the shower at the end of the courtyard. The staff were also very helpful in providing us with information about La Serena on arrival and helped us book a taxi when we left.

Cons: Because the kitchen didn't have windows it was quite cold in winter. The free breakfast was really nice (e.g cheese toastie) but could've offered a bit more like some other hostels who also offer fruit/cereal etc. In the winter would've appreciated a small heater in the room, though there were plenty of blankets on offer.

Pros: The staff, particularly Jenni, are so friendly and informative and helpful

Pros: Friendly staff. Spacious room. Nice outside area and a semi-open kitchen to cook. Quiet location. Everything was clean and kept that way. (Hot) shower available.

Cons: The bed was not really comfortable because the mattress didn’t support our body’s enough. No towels or drinking water available. We had to pass the outside area when going to the bathroom, so when it rains it’s not that convenient. The bathroom was a bit small. Staff did not speak English, but communication was still possible.

Pros: Very sweet and friendly staff. Simple hostel with clean shared facilities in nice old building. Hot shower. Good location, walking distance to city centre.

Cons: Rooms open directly onto open courtyard, so quite cold in winter as no heating. One of the shared bathrooms facilities not working.

Pros: Really nice host who did his best to accommodate us despite our very minimal amount of shared language! Lovely garden, nice breakfast.

Cons: No WiFi! It does say this in the listing but we missed it.

Pros: Good location, is near the center of the town. The host and the staff are very nice, they will try to answer your question as possible as they can. The room is very comfortable. And there is a supermarket nearby. Highly recommend!
