Patti and Patrick were the perfect hosts, a delicious breakfast in the morning and they also supplied us with plates, cutlery etc for our picnic in the evening.

Pros: A joy from start to finish, Angelique made us feel at home in her beautiful house. Great design and perfect location.... a real treat! A perfect place... Thank you for having us.
Cons: Tea / coffee making facilities in room would have been nice... other than that faultless

Pros: The location could not have been better with easy access to parking and the harbor. The room was spacious and lovely and our hostess was friendly and knowledgeable. And, a delicious French breakfast.
Cons: Not a thing. We were delighted to have found such a lovely place to stay in La Rochelle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic stay at this quaint and cosy chambre d’hôtes. A baby bed was installed in our room. The room on the ground floor is perfect for couples with baby as we could have a glass of wine in the court yard while our son was sleeping. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. The hosts were very nice and helpful. Central location with lots of restaurants nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was fantastic. Housekeeping was excellent. Angelique couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend staying here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old French traditional house with a perfect welcoming hostess. Excellent position for visiting La Rochelle with many restaurants nearby.... would be happy to stay again.... maybe for longer!
Cons: Entry could be easier and front door bell needs attention
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The place is a lovely old house very well looked after. The host is very nice and polite helped us a lot with her advice. Noting that the guests are limited to their room and the small lounge and patio.
Cons: The breakfast was ok but not worth the 13€ pp. There was bread, croissant, fruit and jam plus coffee. I had read reviews on booking about breakfast being amazing but having tried it it did not prove to be value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole stay was a wonderful experience . The facility was first class and the lady who owns and manages the property was delightful, very considerate and very helpful . The breakfast was great, fresh croissants, fresh fruit and wonderful home made jams . I would definitely recommend .
Cons: There was nothing , I did not like. I suppose we would have liked to stay a bit longer, but perhaps next time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at La Maison du Palmier mid August 2018 on the last leg of a trip around South West France and Northern Spain. Located in the centre of town and less that a two minute walk from all the restaurants and bars its perfect for you if your looking for a more realistic French experience outside of Hotel accommodation. The property itself is beautifully decorated and full of character. We stayed in the garden room on the ground floor that overlooks the courtyard garden. The room is peaceful and charming to stay in with an eclectic mix of antique and traditional French furniture and furnishings that combine to give the room a stylish and restful ambiance. We never met the owner who was away on holiday but instead were taken care of by her mother Claudine who is a thoughtful and attentive host. Breakfast is optional and well worth it. A note to anyone driving. The property is adjacent to a car park so unloading luggage is easy but if you don’t want pay for long term parking you can park your car round the corner for free in one of the car parks. Getting up early improves you chances of securing a space as you will have to persevere for a place later in the day or in the busier months when everybody seemed to be looking for free spaces.
Cons: nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience of staying there was excellent. The breakfast was fantastic and most of all the best part of staying there was the way the lady of the house made us feel so welcome. It very much felt like you were getting a personal first class service.
Cons: Cannot fault anything.
7.7 Good
Pros: The location is fantastic, 300 metres from Old Port and shopping streets. The owners, treat you like their best friends, the bedrooms are sublime, and the area tranquil.
Cons: Parking can be difficult.
7.3 Good
Pros: An excellent location to bars, restaurants, shops and Port. Within walking distance.
Cons: There was a cat in the guest house which was not previously mentioned... not good if you have allergies! I however did not mind this.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast very nice and being able to eat it in the room made the start of the day more leisurely. Lovely view and very easy to walk downstairs to assess all restaurants.
Cons: The two flights of stairs are a problem ( we already knew about them ) so could present concerns to persons with disabilities as no lift . A few items this year were different . The curtesy tray was missing the sachets of coffee and only had two herbal teas provided. Cups were not washed and replaced clean on two days but left dirty . Midweek we returned from being out during the day and the floor had not been hovered and crumbs still everywhere under the table area. Towel taken as dirty but not replaced . Previously the hotel had scored high .

Pros: The hotel was in a great location. Very close to walk to everything. Very clean and newly redecorated. Room was very quiet. We liked they had parking on site(extra charge, we didn't like). It was nice having an elevator so we didn't have to walk up three floors.
Cons: The room was very very small. Not much privacy in the bathroom. Not much room for more than one suitcase. Hard to find the hotel with GPS as street were all closed to traffic that GPS took us to. Had to park and walk into hotel to ask how to get to hotel by car. Only one way in and very complicated by car. They advertised AC but it didn't work as they controlled it centrally and had it turned off. Just a short walk into town and the town beach. Receptionist was exceptional and went above and beyond to satisfy our family.

Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Le Manoir is in a good location a little away from the heart of La Rochelle. It takes 15 minutes to walk through the leafy park to the Vieux Port. The hotel is decorated with what I would describe as 'pared back' elegance, very plain and simple with stand out pieces of artwork here and there. Our room was compact but very comfortable with a large shuttered window overlooking the road. The lady on reception spoke excellent English and was most enthusiastic in recommending places to visit.

Pros: Good location and nice staff
Cons: Huge problem with the air conditioning. It was 33 degrees and our air con kept resetting and switching off and resetting at 25 degrees! So we didn’t have a good sleep. Pros: The hotel is very comfortable and has a unique location overlooking the Atlantic and yet very close to the centre of La Rochelle, which is within walking distance. It occupies a compact site, which means the rooms are small, but has been totally remodelled, with a very modern bathroom, and an outstanding view from the balconies. It provides an excellent breakfast which can be eaten while looking out over the boats sailing into the harbour. It also offers the opportunity to sit or lie on the Sun Deck and just relax. It was also delightful to see so many English programmes on the excellent wide TV.

Pros: Location is excellent and the room was superb with one of the best beds and nights sleep in a while. Also has a properly deep bath.
Cons: The pool is only small so we didn't get to use it as it was already quite busy.

Cons: Difficult to get snacks with our drinks initially. Not enough loungers around pool although most were 'reserved' with towels but were unused.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb facilities for kids, close to the place de Verdun main bus station and very close to the local park. The buffet supper is brilliant; healthy, fresh and very tasty.
Cons: Difficult to get to with children and heavy bags from the train station as La Rochelle does not have a robust taxi service. I called the hotel after waiting 30minutes for a taxi and calling 6 taxi firms and asked if they could call a taxi for me but they said they could not; only were able to give me two taxi numbers.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable room, excellent breakfast, and easy walk into town

Pros: Location staff and cleanliness!! Le jardin was beautiful too
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location was excellent. But so overpriced for the quality of the rooms.
Cons: Rooms small and expensive. Cramped bedroom and shower room. No easy parking. Arriving early evening meant sitting waiting for a space to appear in the vieux port car park..very stressful. Room open out onto internal court yard so no breeze.

Cons: Our room had been done up but they had taken the doors of the cupboards but not the hinges which it made it look unfinished. There was a fan but it was very noisy

5.2 Okay
Pros: Shower & toilet facilities were very good & room was clean & presentable.
Cons: The third bed was only a sofa bed which was't adequate & the bed sheet was of poor quality & had a corner strap that was broken. The room could have been larger for 3 people sharing - I.e a seperate room/area for the double bed. Also the Free car parking was full so we had to park in the Public car park by the beach & pay. The map directions for the free parking wasn't large enough; making them difficult to find.

Pros: Breakfast, great and clean comfortable room, Comfy bed. House keeping very efficient. Accommodating staff. Very helpful , Fantastic Location.
Cons: I think it was overpriced we paid almost €700 for 3 nights.. A little pricy,. Very comfortable and clean. Maybe €500 would have been more appropriate. For what you got.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent, short walk to the port and lots of restaurants and cafes and also near a small beach. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: Didn’t realise there was no restaurant at the hotel, other than for breakfast. But as it was near so many restaurants it was not too much of a problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel right next to the old town. Everything is walking distance. The hotel is beautiful and great to have on-site parking. We will definitely stay here again next time we come to La Rochelle.
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and general comfort for a stopover
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location was brilliant. A charming and quirky period hotel with a variety of art and sculpture. We had a 2 bedroom suite with a roof terrace - a bit precarious to access but the 360 degree view is one of the best in La Rochelle. Secure parking on site for vehicles with bikes on the roof was appreciated. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in La Rochelle.

7.1 Good
Pros: Nice hotel with small but clean and newly renovated rooms close to the port and in a roaming street - but the windows were very good so that you hardly heard anything. The Breakfast was OK.
Cons: This was the only hotel out of 8 that did not offer a safe space for our e-bikes but asked us to leave them in an observed parking house. Worked fine, but you don't feel relaxed during a bicycle tour when you fear for your bikes.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff and receptionists were all extremely helpful and welcoming - they helped with questions and also provided good recommendations. They helped with some requests also which helped a lot. The room was very clean and did the job as expected.
Cons: The air con was a bit noisy and being close to the main stairs was also a bit disruptive but we spent time outdoors a lot of the time so it didn't matter.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Was 2 stars thought it was at least 3. Hallway carpet extremely dirty. Eclectic and noisy.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location near lots of fantastic restaurants and bars. Small room but did the job for our 2 day stay in La Rochelle. Had breakfast one morning and it was sufficient. If I was going back to La Rochelle I would stay here again.
Cons: No parking near hotel, a bit difficult with lots to carry but is also nice as no cars can travel down the road. They also give you a reduced rate for parking which is good.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and the room is clean, comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Will stay here again but now I know why there is free earplugs in the room
Cons: I would only take points off for the noisy stairs. No lifts so from an early hour you have people "hopping" their suitcases down the stairs outside your room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean hotel, funky design, convenient location.
Cons: Arrogant receptionist, very thin walls, very noisy street during the night
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness of the staff, the design, the tranquility and that is located right in the center of the beautiful Rochelle!
6.7 Good
Pros: Perfectly located to explore the old town and old harbour area
Cons: Hotel is located next to a restaurant and several bars thus it was terribly noisy
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very good location, nicely decorated small cosy hotel.
Cons: Because of location you can hear the bar noise from outside the street when window is open till late in the night. But they have an aircon so you can close it and the hotel gives you airplugs, so no big issue.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location,

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel de l'Ocean, you'll be centrally located in La Rochelle, steps from Tour de la Chaine and 4 minutes by foot from Tour St. Nicolas.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very central location, modern bathroom with good shower pressure, pleasant staff.
Cons: No elevator and room on the fourth floor. Room very small.
6.7 Good
Pros: Bed was comfy,
Cons: room though a good size was cramped with extra furniture. There were no electrical sockets by the bedside table. The only one available for use was by the door, phones etc had to be left on the floor. Had to get hairdryer from reception, was not in room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was in a very good location.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, great location, good value for money.
Cons: The family room was cramped for four people, with no place to store bags.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location & harbour view.
Cons: Too many stairs. Also there was no indication we could not drive up to the hotel, so spent a great deal of time navigating the one way streets only to discover we had to park in a public parking lot and carry/drag our suitcase across cobblestone to get to the hotel. Some sort of warning about this at time of booking would have been appreciated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: location brill .... near to everything .... would return
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is listed as a 2 star but is better than.many 3 stars I have stayed at. Great position, walk out the door and go left or right and pick your place for a wine or a meal.
Cons: The only thing I did not like was the stairs but a small price to pay for the great location and friendly service.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property was harbour side and in a good location, close to shops and restaurants. It was clean and the lady on reception was very welcoming and helped us with taxi bookings etc. the air conditioning was very efficient and much needed in the hot weather.
Cons: The photo of the room shown on booking.com wasn't what we got. We counted 88 steps up a winding staircase to an attic room. with heavy cases it was like scaling a mountain. It said lovely harbour view, but really had to stand on a chair to see it. The room was described as soundproofed but it wasn't, there was outside noise and noise from the room next door.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The location (although not easy to reach by car). The lady at the reception was nice.
Cons: The room was very small for 3 people-very little space to move and difficult to find space for suitcases. Only shower towel, no small towel. No elevator. Needs to be refurbished.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and tidy. Close to the beach. Staff were really nice.
Cons: Not much atmosphere, only a very small lounge area.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was nice with a nice view of the marina. It's a nice walk and from what I could tell from all the walking I did it is pretty safe too, as La Rochelle generally appears to be (beautiful and safe - great!). The breakfast is very generous in the choice you get and is fairly tasty. It was surprising to find the orange juice was proper orange juice, at least it tasted like so to me, and not the orange juice you get elsewhere - and I have stayed in plenty of hostels to know - that is definitely not real orange juice and seems to be water added to orange powder! This was a nice change from that. There is an optional meal you can get at the bar in the evening which does not seem too expensive. I did not go for it but I saw what others got on their table - a generous serving for the price and a great view of the marina from the balcony off the bar (see the picture below of the boat masts). People who might not want to venture all the way into town at night might appreciate it but it is worth going into town too for a meal. Their eco-efforts are good but not always practical as in one case I mention in the 'didn't like' section. The 4 bunk all female dorm room was spacious, fairly clean, and fairly comfortable (bar the toilet/sink situation, see below).
Cons: The staff were nice enough generally but I got hung up on when I rang to enquire about something ahead of my arrival. When I mentioned it later I just got a raised eyebrow and an 'oh well' attitude. Security wise, you use the same key card (as they use here) to get into the corridor from the stairwell of the building as you do to get into your room. I found this a bit dodgy. Who knows who else could be able to get into your dorm room from the other dorm rooms along the corridor. I doubt the cards are all as room-specific as the staff say they are. However, it's not necessarily the people from other rooms you have to worry about in a hostel situation, but rather the ones you are sharing with, as I suspected afterwards. Speaking of the shower, the only sink in the four bed dorm I was in was in the shower section of the dorm room, not in with the toilet which is in a separate cubicle to the back of it. I realise it is probably part of their eco efforts to have just one sink and not two - one in each place - but not having it in the same area as the toilet is unhygienic. What if you want to wash your hands after the toilet before going out but have to wait until the shower section, if it's being used by someone at the time, is free? There are some people who will not bother to wait or won't wash their hands at all - even if the shower section is free - because the sink (and preferably a bit of liquid soap as a suggestion) is not in front of them to do so. It appears to be a bad design decision, however eco-conscious, which probably can't be changed now. It's not really a fault of the hostel but the street lighting at the main entrance to the hostel could be better at night, however safe La Rochelle is. Maybe they could discuss it with the relevant people. I didn't get the huge 'sociable' vibe they seem to be proud of. The hostel is still worth staying in, mainly for price reasons as La Rochelle can be quite pricey.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent, staff efficient.
Cons: Top bunk was awkward to get to, especially in the night! Breakfast was simple but adequate.
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly, helpful, nice place, good beer.
Cons: A little too far from town for me, bicycle would be useful. Breakfast was a little limited

Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: every thing was ok
Cons: it very very hot had no fan
7.9 Good
Pros: Good value, clean accommodation, safe
Cons: Breakfast, get down early as items not replenished
6.7 Good
Cons: Got checked in to the wrong room - I had a 4-bed booking and was placed in a 6-bed room. I eventually made the change but staff was hesitant to accept the modification.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pleasantly surprised that a hot cooked meal was prepared at a nominal cost for supper. Breakfast is free and was also plentiful and healthy. I did not have to go out looking for a restaurant in the evening. I am 72 years old and prefer to stay indoors at night. The location was another excellent surprise as it faces the ocean--absolutely beautiful. Staff has been excellent also. Stayed 3 nights and look forward to a return trip.
Cons: there was no towel or soap provided. I had trouble finding the hostel as there was no sign in the front and no parking spots. Needed a local person to point the building out to me. Large trees in front and dark - sign was not visible.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Run efficiently, good location (central and on the cell route), welcoming staff.

Pros: Large airy quiet and peaceful room. Clean with all the amenities. A very keen and pleasant team of staff from reception to housekeeping. Excellent central location close to everything!
Cons: I can’t think of a single thing! I have rarely been so impressed!
7.1 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel in amazing location. Clean comfortable room and right on the harbour side. Recommend.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, location , location. Surrounded by bars and restaurants, excellent double glazing as partying in street went on to small hours.
Cons: Did not affect us as we were on a motorcycle but parking seemed distant and expensive, saw hot and bothered people draggging suitcases into and out of reception.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was in the heart of the town, perfect.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is great, right on the harbour and next to the restaurants. Very important point! Whilst the town is busy it's not loud. The hotel was quiet and you can't hear any street noise. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and all spoke good English which we need as unfortunately we can't speak French. Room big enough for a few nights. Really comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Parking very easy, cheap and safe in the town car park which is in one minute from the hotel. Great value for money. Would recommend staying at this hotel. There are a brilliant choice of restaurants right outside the hotel, and lovely bars to sit and watch the sun go down on the harbour overlooking the medieval towers, and watch the sailing boats. Really charming. And lots of shops to browse around, and wander the cobbled streets. La Rochelle is a very classy place, clean and well looked after. Ile de Re is wonderful, with charming little towns to have lunch, and the beaches are out of this world, paradise. A short drive away across the bridge or you can get a bus. Worth noting that the car 'peage' toll is 16 Euros to get onto the Island (getting off is free!). Want to go back already!!
