Pros: The hotel is very comfortable and has a unique location overlooking the Atlantic and yet very close to the centre of La Rochelle, which is within walking distance. It occupies a compact site, which means the rooms are small, but has been totally remodelled, with a very modern bathroom, and an outstanding view from the balconies. It provides an excellent breakfast which can be eaten while looking out over the boats sailing into the harbour. It also offers the opportunity to sit or lie on the Sun Deck and just relax. It was also delightful to see so many English programmes on the excellent wide TV.

I called the hotel after waiting 30minutes for a taxi and calling 6 taxi firms and asked if they could call a taxi for me but they said they could not; only were able to give me two taxi numbers.

Staff were really friendly and helpful, and all spoke good English which we need as unfortunately we can't speak French. Room big enough for a few nights. Really comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Parking very easy, cheap and safe in the town car park which is in one minute from the hotel. Great value for money. Would recommend staying at this hotel. There are a brilliant choice of restaurants right outside the hotel, and lovely bars to sit and watch the sun go down on the harbour overlooking the medieval towers, and watch the sailing boats. Really charming. And lots of shops to browse around, and wander the cobbled streets. La Rochelle is a very classy place, clean and well looked after. Ile de Re is wonderful, with charming little towns to have lunch, and the beaches are out of this world, paradise. A short drive away across the bridge or you can get a bus. Worth noting that the car 'peage' toll is 16 Euros to get onto the Island (getting off is free!). Want to go back already!!

Pros: I would like to give you some feedback on our recent stay at The Mercure Hotel in La Rochelle and how wonderful your staff are. The staff we would like to thank in particular are Anais and Lucas, although there was also a lovely French gentleman - tall, dark and slim that we did not get the name of that was also particularly kind and helpful. We were in a terrible situation. Our car had broken down over the bank holiday weekend and we were stranded in France with our bikes and so much luggage as we had been staying in an apartment and had a full roof box and car of items from home in the UK. We needed a hotel quickly as we had to be out of our apartment the day the car broke down. I called and spoke to Anais. She was so kind and couldn’t have been more helpful. She told us not to worry about all of our baggage etc, that there would be somewhere to store it until we could take it home. We really needed such a lovely, kind and empathetic approach. She is a credit to you. Lucas was equally as kind and helpful. The hotel was wonderful. We loved our stay. We would return in a heartbeat. Please pass on our thanks to your staff. This is a superb hotel and it made a very upsetting and difficult time so much easier.

Cons: The room wasn't massive, but perfectly adequate. Tip: the drive-in entrance to the hotel appears to be in a no-entry road which was a bit confusing, but hotel guests are allowed to turn in and then turn immediately left into the hotel's property.

Cons: No air conditioning in the rooms during a hot spell, although there are oscillating fans supplied which made it bearable. We parked our motorcycles in the car park which is behind the hotel with a door which leads out to it, but we were not allowed to use it, instead carrying our luggage from the lift (next to the door!) all around the outside of the hotel, very strange.

Pros: The location was convenient. Easy to find and near to the railway station. The stuff were all friendly. We could leave our luggage there. The kitchen was good for cooking some easy foods. Wi-fi worked very well.

Cons: We have previously stayed at such hotels in Bordeaux and Marseilles so were expect I g the same welcome.. we stayed twice during the last week, the first time arriving just after eight as the plane was delayed. Details you had sent said check in was until midnight but in fact was until eight. We were therefore locked out and if it had. To been for the eventual help of other guests we would never have got in or found our room. An e mail had been sent but of course I could not open it until I was in the building where there was WiFi. Then we returned this week ( we had paid in Advance). Before leaving the previous time we were told there would be no problem if we arrived just before three when our train arrived. What a fuss about being allowed to leave bags. We were in La Rochelle for sightseeing and were certainly not waiting around. The place did not seem full so I would have thought a room might have been ready, if not a more welcoming way of letting us leave our luggage would have been nice. Breakfast was good.

Pros: Cheap but certainly cheerful, easy walking distance in the the old port, lads of bars, restaurants and other attractions. Clean, simple accommodation with very friendly staff and secure parking
Cons: The only downside I could see is that if you have mobility issue there are no elevators, not a problem for us.

Cons: The staff at the reception are just disgusting !!! Settled in a room on the ground floor, dirty, stink like a bomber !!! Very disappointed !!! Compared to other apartments of this network, this is the worst !!!!!!

Pros: Our room was ready on our arrival was clean and had good facilities. Short walk to the centre and quite area. Reception staff very helpful and informative. Would recommend and I we come back to La Rochelle would stay here again.

Cons: Early morning noise outside. No water when we arrived after a long drive we were told it would be two hours to repair pipe. We believe it was planned maintenance so could have been done at a less busy time rather than check-in time.

Cons: Room was very very basic and dated. No coffee making facilities in room, bed not too comfortable and no hair dryer available at reception when requested. Breakfast was basic with little choice and not much left when we got there at 9.45 (closes at 10.30). Worst of all we paid 50 Euro’s more on this website than hotel was advertising room for. Over priced and over rated!

Cons: Noise travels a lot in this hotel both from the rooms above and below. Last night I was woken up at midnight at 4.15pm - noise on corridor by the lift and again at 5.00am. Then again at 7.00am by some people slamming doors and moving cases to the lifts. It’s a shame has the potential to be excellent but no-one checks on housekeeping- had to phone down for coffee and milk that was not replenished by housekeeping - only one bin - no liner day one -placed in bathroom not near tea and coffee. Did not have breakfast - too expensive. Just around the corner is an excellent place providing full breakfast for half the price. Car parking is good and convenient- if you get in early. It is very difficult to reverse out. 20 Euros a day for three days - total 60 Euros. That’s a lot!
