Kyoto hotels near Yasaka Shrine

Cons: Hotel itself was just meh. Amazing location above Kyoto Station but it comes at a hefty price. Since we were using the Japan Rail Pass for the day trips, it was worth it. Would stay there again.

Pros: This hotel is part of the JR hotel group the hotel has very helpful staff who speak English well. The location can't be beat. It is central and easy to go any where from this location. Rooms are quiet and well serviced.

Pros: Very impress for staff at concierge office. Our travelling plan went smoothly by assistance from concierge staff. This was our 3 times staying at the hotel and we will definitely book the hotel again when we visit Kyoto.

Pros: Good location. Convenient to train station. Very comfortable and relaxing. Good restaurants (although a bit pricey).

Pros: The hotel is perfectly located within the train station. Hotel staff could not be more helpful in checking in and out.

Pros: Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways. The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space. They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver.

Cons: No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.

Pros: It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to.

Cons: It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.

Pros: Location was excellent, close to making shopping area. Big room for Japanese standard.

Cons: Staff not very friendly. Limited English with some staff. Concierge overwhelmed with people. Perhaps 2 at the desk would help. Very strict check out policy. Was not given a copy of my bill because I made the reservation over KAyak.

Pros: Great service that can be expected from the Okura brand. Was unexpectedly upgraded to a large room. Good location.

Cons: Okura was listed as luxury, which it was far from. We ended up not staying here after checking in as the rooms were not like they looked on the website and nothing about this hotel was luxury. It’s a very basic business hotel - oversized and questionable on cleanliness.

Pros: We loved staying here. My only complaint is that it cost additional money to use the pool, if you chose to use the pool, and more importantly, that you had to be 18 years old to use the pool at all. My wife and I were traveling with our 9-year-old daughter, so none of used the pool because our daughter was too young. This was a huge downer, because Kyoto is very hot in August and we would have welcomed being able to cool off in the pool. By contrast, the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo (The Park Hyatt) had no age restrictions on pool usage (or usage fees) and we used the pool twice a day. Other than the disappointment about the pool, the Kyoto Hotel Okura was a total delight and perfectly located and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the free shuttle too and from Kyoto Station was a welcome surprise.

Cons: The pool cost money to use. And you need to be at least 18 to use it. This was a huge disappointment since we were traveling with our daughter, who is 9.

Pros: We loved almost everything about the Okura! Staff were very attentive and helpful with navigating for non-Japanese speaking guests. Facilities were in great shape. Insure dining had both local and international options. Subway access via basement connection and hotel shuttle to/from train station. So many amazing sites to see from there and tour company picked up at hotel.

Cons: Much of dining, as seems common in Good hotels in Japan, is fixed price. We found two good options, Merry Island(Italian) and a noodle house that I do not remember the name of, in easy walking distance.

Pros: Lovely staff, very helpful. Hotel seemed oriented towards the business traveller and more for the older Japanese population. That said, it was a very good, very comfortable hotel. Good value!

Cons: The air conditioner in our room was broken. They couldn't fix it and offered no compensation for it. The rooms and main hallways were stuffy and filled with smoke.

Pros: Excellent hotel, clean, modern. Concierge was very helpful. Internet was free and reasonably fast. Location is a little away from the main sites to see but relatively close to Kyoto station. Overall, excellent place to stay. Please do not bring your kids here.

Cons: The entire hotel was generally excellent for adults, business travelers, solo travelers, romantic getaways. Exception was that there was one family with possibly the only children in the hotel running/stomping around. Not appropriate. Please don't bring your children, this is not Disneyland, or at least keep your children under better control.

Pros: I like the design of the hotel the most. Lobby area is very spacious and nice. Breakfast was wonderful. Rooms are very nicely decorated with simple zen design. The bathroom area was very well planed and nicely done.

Pros: Business hotel..mostly small rooms..I got a great one on 14th floor..two queen beds..three windows..views! All because they made a mistake... Third time I have stayed here. All non smoking.. Great staff..good English..well trained!

Pros: It was a comfortably sized room. Pretty decent location. Check in staff spoke English and check in and check out was a breeze. There are plenty of restaurants near by and the Fresh Mart at the end of the block was great.

Pros: Stayed at 2 Mystays this trip, Tokyo & Kyoto. Good wired/wifi speed, ok bfast, cramp rooms. Equate Mystays to Starbucks, reliable but better bang for the Yen is nearby w/ a bit of research. Richmond in Yokohama was great and 4 star Tokyo deals abound.

Pros: Very good location in town; excellent quality of room for the price.

Cons: Reception on 1st floor and although all lifts stop briefly there, people not registered at hotel can enter it by lift, bypassing reception. In London, say, this would be a fatal flaw (I once had my room in London entered by burglars in just such a situation). In Kyoto, however, no particular risk is incurred and the door locks were very good. Information about location was not enough to reach the hotel without asking for directions.

Pros: Best breakfast of my life, and they treated me like a princess. Amazing hotel.

Cons: I wish there could be more hanging hooks for towels/clothes in the bathroom. Having only one is not as functional for two people in the room.

Cons: The mattress is as firm as it gets. I had difficulty sleeping on my side or back. The hotel configuration is not suitable if your room is situated far from the elevator. It seems the elevator is at one end of hotel and our room at the opposite end. Hotel is U-shaped and we walked liked 200 meters to the elevators.

Pros: The location can't be beat! It is right by the JR line and makes it easy for navigating the city and having a base to get back to before going out and exploring more! The staff was extremely nice and attentive and spoke relative good English.

Pros: The location and staff were amazing. Right across from the JR line tracks. Staff was very helpful, offering suggestions of where to eat and sights to see. Rooms were very large and comfy! We’d come back for sure!

Cons: Ceanliness was poor. Toilet was leaking on the floor and it was obvious the floor wasn't cleaned daily. We were out all day and upon returning, we saw the bathroom wasn't cleaned. Also, we got a cab to take us to a nearby laundromat and then Kyoto station. We showed them the map the hotel passes out to guests. The taxi driver said he knew how to get there. He took us the opposite direction. After driving for about 8 min, I stopped him and told him he's going the wrong way. Thank goodness for GPS and smartphones. He had one too but couldn't figure how to get us to where we wanted. He ended up taking us back to the hotel and asking us to pay him the $11 on the meter. I told him it wasn't fair since he never took us where we wanted to go. He called the porter who insisted we pay the taxi. Even though I explained the situation, the porter took the taxi's story that I never gave the address. He heard my story and took the taxi's. We told him he picked us up from the hotel too and he still said we should pay. I told him I'm not paying and that I would walk to my destination. He insisted I give my name and room number. That was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Sad...

Pros: The location was excellent. The staff were immaculately groomed and dressed. All staff were very polite. We especially want to praise the door-man who greeted us in such a friendly manner each day with a bow and a smile and a few words in English. The rooms were kept very well.

Pros: It is very convenient for transport as it is just to the north of Kyoto JR Station and the bus terminal. The reception staff spoke English well and were helpful whenever we had questions.

Cons: The rooms were almost too warm, which made it difficult to get to sleep. The breakfast was far too expensive for what was included.
