We stood in line for 3.5 hours to pick up the car because of understaffing. That is unacceptable

My only two complaints are that I paid a huge premium at about 100 a day, that is crazy for a standard vehicle, and that there is some disconnect between the main number people and the local rental desk. You get a rental and confirm number but then go to the airport desk and there is no car. This kept happening, I had to go twice without getting a car, and the local person insisted there were no same day rentals and no cars. This was contradicted by the person on the phone, who insisted they did have cars and did do same day rentals. It is a huge hassle and there were a lot of bruised feelings on both sides, because people don't accept that (not how this works generally) and I witnessed heated interchanges and experienced some snappiness myself. Why aren't they on the same page? What has to happen for the local inventory to be reflected accurately at the main office? If you have a confirmation number you are entitled to a car and this system just causes the local person to endure negative feedback. Otherwise I had a good rental experience, the car was clean and easy to get and return. I was met in the parking area by Quinn who handles cleaning the return cars and it was very smooth.

The customer service agent was rude and refused to rent us a van that we were told was available the day before. She was also argumentative l. I got the face mask like she asked. When she refused to assist me with an already scheduled rental I went to get the face mask like she asked. While waiting I noticed others weee being assisted without face masks. All I said was that others didn’t have their mask on. She responded to me that they had medical conditions and that I didn’t tell her that I had a medical condition.. Then she said it was to early for this and all I said was that I agree. Then she slid my stuff back across the counter a second time and I said have a good day. I am 53 years old. She didn’t even respect me being older nor respected me as a customer at all. So my wife goes in and she assists her and come to find out they rented the van out the day before at the same day we weee promised the van. When the customer service agent found out that was my wife she then, REFUSED her service because of being connected to me. I have been in customer service since I was 18 started working for Dominoes and still am in customer service. I would have been FIRED if I treated not only one but 2 customers like that. Another customer behind my wife also complained to the customer service agent for not answering the phones. The customer had tried several times to call in before driving in. When I called to complain to Budget they did nothing. All I said was that I agree after she kept saying it was to early for this.. and that sets her off? This was at the HILTON HEAD AIRPORT. The Budget office located inside.

When I arrived to pick up the car, I was under the impression that I could pick it up anytime after my scheduled time. Apparently there is only a 1 hour window of the time selected (which I believed to be arbitrary since you pay by the day), after which your reservation is canceled. I found no verbiage on this in any of the fine print on the website. When picking up they also didn't mention anything about a $200 security deposit required, and so I thought that I had been scammed because I 'missed' this 1 hour window. Car worked well and was clean, just the pick up part was awful.

Nothing! Flight was delayed, so I was not able to pick up my car before the rental counter closed. When I went to pick up the car the next day, they would not honor the price I was giving through Kayak, the price changed from $285 to $900. I tried multiple times the day I was supposed to arrive to notify them that I would be late, but the phone was disconnected. When I asked the counter person, they said that the bill wasn't paid, and that's why I could not get through!Head Hilton rental counter is extremely unprofessional, and I would not consider it a "business setting". Personal at the counter and cleaning/service were not in uniform. Counter said that she was going to call someone about my price change, but was definitely not on the phone long enough to talk with someone. Probably because the phone was still offline, from the bill not being paid!

Staff was helpful, quick, and friendly. Probably the best of any car rental counter I've ever used!Hilton Head Island airport parking lot is free and unattended, but signage isn't great. I took the long way around to exit the lot. Of course, there "the long way around" is an extra 200 feet! :-) That is not the fault of Budget.
