8.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen is fine, with both indoor and outdoor. And the massage chairs are also nice after a bath. The dinner and breakfast are good as well.
Cons: Hope the staff serving meals could speak English. The old ladies are nice and friendly, anyway we are unable to communicate with her but smiles.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It started off by being greeted by a sea of staff. Someone guides you to your room and explains the layout of the hotel. I love the three different onsen in the hotel in the different wings of the hotel. The room itself was super spacious, having two seating areas and still space to have 3 futons on the floor. The breakfast was the best I had during my stay in Japan. During our stay there was a special winter dessert tea time set you could order which was absolutely worth it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The buffet breakfast was fantastic, the room was spacious, the staff were very attentive. Loved the cheap massage chairs! The three onsen to choose from were delightful.

Pros: The outdoor onsen was nice, . The dinner buffet was nice, we enjoyed the quality of the food but the 1,5 hour limit was too pressuring for us and we didn't enjoy a relaxing dinner as we hoped for. Pros: The hot spring hotel is quite traditional and with excellent service. The staff in the front desk speaks very good English and is helpful. The open public bath is nice. The private bath in the room is also enjoyable.
Cons: The price is a bit high. The staff who served us for dinner was very eager to explain the food to us but unfortunately, she could hardly speak any English and we could not understand Japanese. It's a big contrast to the English level of their front desk staff. If this can be improved, it will make the dinner more enjoyable.

8.7 Excellent (266 reviews)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is operated by a Japanese couple. The wife speaks very good English. Good location and near every thing. There is also free pickup service. Onsen is good with both outside and inside pools.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome and stay. Felt personal always asking about our day and plans. We went half board and the food was excellent, beautifully presented and great to taste a bit of everything. In-house onsen was a big plus and was clean and while compact, perfect for our stay.
Cons: Not a negative exactly, but may take getting used to if by shared bathroom you are still used to having a cubicle or privacy to shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness and how personal the stay was! They knew my name and spoke English as best they could which I really appreciate and made me feel welcomed.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is so kind and give us more imformations. Facilities and onsen are good. Feel likes we are live in our house.
Cons: The room is a little cold in winter
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel owner was so nice. We left one mobile phone in the room after checkout and did not realize days later until we received a mail from her. She came to the JR station to hand over to phone to us when our train passed by 下吕. She even made a white board with our names on it for easy identification as the train only stops by 30 seconds. What a wonderful and hospitable lady! We are so moved by the lady and can not thanks enough to her.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners. They spoke good english (something quite rare in Japan. Most hotels/hosts say they can speak other languages but they just use a translation app which makes things tricky). Nice ample room and private toilet. Bathroom is shared -japanese style. Nice little onsen provided as well. Owners exceeded our expectation with the onsen use as well as providing information about Gero. Izumi-So is within walking distance of pretty much everything in Gero (restaurants and other onsen included). A few car park spaces available too. I would definitely visit again.
Cons: Nothing to say really. I guess if you're shy it would make taking a bath in front of others tricky. But you'll definitely find a time when there are no other users to take advantage of the bathing facilities and the onsen.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: They're a bit far from Gero station, around 1 km away. The owners recommended us to contact them via tourist information to pick us up. Also help us carried 2 big luggages up to 2nd floor (they don't have elevator.) The Onsen separates Male and Female, opens 16:00-09:00 on the next morning. Onsen itself quite good, nice temperature, having both indoor and outdoor.

6.3 Good
Cons: The dining experience was quite a disappointment. We didn’t have the usual relax and enjoyable experience as we would normally have. The server seems to be very busy and tried to rush through the set up. The onsen was also a disappointment. The outdoor one was a small tub which can only fit 4 people max comfortably. the building and rooms are also fairly old and need touch up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unless you have a higher budget, you can't ask for more. Staff are super nice, in room dining are excellent, hot spring is comfortable too.
Cons: Apart from hot spring and dining, a small shop, there is no other facilities. However, it is more than enough in an onsen.

Pros: The foods are great, employees are nice, and the onsen Is really comfort, suitable for family’s trip or go with partner.

Pros: Private bath tub is vert nice, a little bit chilly in January though. The food is great, they even prepare one of our kaiseki set without crab and shrimp, per my allergy.
Cons: Quite far from shops and it’s located on the hill, but I don’t think you need to go anywhere unless it is nessesary.
9.2 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: So divine!! Room with private outdoor bath, beautiful fall colors and misty mountains. Incredible food. Kind and attentive staff who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They sent us off with a gift of green tea. Wonderful experience and will highly recommend to friends. We have stay in many ryokans over the years, and this is in our top 3 for sure.
Cons: Maybe a little later breakfast option (8:30am is the latest option) and later checkout would be nice, to enjoy the wonderful bath more :) However, checkout time (10am) is pretty normal for ryokans in Japan.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, delicious breakfast and dinner
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very efficient and welcoming despite the language difficulties. The room is quite spacious and the hot springs are clean and roomy. The outdoor hot spring was quite enjoyable. The dinner was unexpectedly delicious although we ended up having too much to eat!
Cons: There is only one shuttle bus every hour or so and we had to wait at the stay to get picked up an hour later. Wouldn be good if the hotel can advise better before turbulence trip.

6.7 Good
Pros: Everything except the room, the dinner and the breakfast were excellent, the onsen is open 24h, except during cleaning hours.
Cons: The room was quiet different from what was shown on booking site, it was so dark so I had to keep the light on even if it's bright outside...it smells cigarettes and the size was far from what the picture said. The booking picture for "Japanese style twin room with shared bathroom" has to be changed as it's misleading, I got a narrow single room with an awful view even though I've booked a twin room, I asked the staff to change it but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good place, breakfast and dinner execellent !
Cons: None

Cons: Breakfast was not so good (for western taste ). Staff have no English at all. Noisy. Staff came into our room while we were sleeping. No explanation. Looks run down. Cash only was not appreciated. Had to withdraw and carry heaps to pay for room. Would not stay there again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is located on the hill top and we were given a big room on the 4th (top) floor with the clear view, overlooking the green canopy, of the entire Gero town. Excellent view from the balcony. Service staff were very attentive to details and very responsible, great service. The onsen on the first floor was very clean and well maintained with a view of the garden through enclosed glass. The entire 2-day stay felt like home. Nice, quiet and relaxing. The senior lady host speaks no English but we got by via a small translating gadget; she was super friendly and hospitable.
Cons: Location is quite far from the train station and can be a long and uphill walk. We drove, so it was easy with ample free parking. The walk from the car park, with bags, can be a bit intimidating, but once you hit the lobby, it was like going home! Wi-fi is only available in the lobby.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is really good and you can have a private restroom inside your room with a big mirror and hair dryer ;) And there are a lot of free parking lots.
Cons: You cannot book a time slot/a private bathroom to enjoy the hot spring.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in an atmospheric Japanese style room with an almost unobstructed view of the town below and the surrounding mountains. The bath downstairs was perfect. The staff was very polite just as you would expect in Japan. Great value for money.
Cons: The hotel is located some ways up a hill so getting luggage up there might be tough without using a taxi.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great view. The whole town can be seen from the room. Very helpful staff as well.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff can't speak English but go out of their way to be helpful with Google translate! They refunded our taxi ride to the hotel and let us take their umbrellas out in the rain. They also let us keep our bags in a locked room after checking out, while we vised Takayama for the day. The onsen was small but very enjoyable and refreshing.
Cons: Up the hill, so if you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you.

Pros: The staff, especially the Chinese staff working there are very passionate and helpful. The dinner and breakfast included are awesome!
Cons: The bed is extremely uncomfortable.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Excellent cuisine, delicately prepared and impeccably presented by the chef
Cons: Dinner service - staff was in experienced/ lacked training and was in a rush to get on with the delivery which is unexpected for a ryokan with premium pricing. Small glass of apperitiv was spilled but she did not clean up as expected and left a stain throughout the service. Explanation of the different dishes was very limited and rushed through. All in all service did not do justice to the cuisine. Lacked personal service and touch expected from a traditional ryokan.
