The pickup staff did their best in a bad situation (limited cars). The return staff was very helpful and friendly.Cons:
The terminal counter was closed and there weren't enough clerks in the garage area, to which we were redirected. They ran out of mid-sized cars and they initially wanted to put me in a tiny, Yugo-looking, thing. I pushed hard and got a Jeep; great. Upon returning it, the clerk noted some dings on the roof. I assured her, that I'd not placed anything up there nor parked under a tree or awning. I also noted the pickup clerk had not checked the roof, so there was no way to know when the supposed damage (I couldn't see any dings) occurred. They nonetheless sent me a damage report and it was only after pushing back that they waived it "because you're such a valued customer." Yeah, right. All in all, a pretty frustrating experience.10.0 Wonderful

Signage for check-in could be better. Signs coming from the airport terminal lead you to one place and then there are signs there redirecting to garage for check-in. The temp signs in use could be place better.10.0 Wonderful

They staff got me a great vehicle for the intense winter road conditions in Oregon. We couldn’t have gotten to our destination had it not been for the 4 wheel drive in our Toyota 4 Runner.Cons:

Pros:
Absolutely nothing. Worst rental experience of my life. Car was dirty upon pickup. Had to make a few changes to my itinerary and their customer service line was busy or disconnected. It automatically more than doubled my charges. When I left a poor review at Avis, I was contacted by a customer service manager who said he would credit me back $200...and after 3 follow up emails over the course of 2 weeks, he has not responded. At th me curb, the PDX airport employee told me that Payless’ shuttle shows up “about every 30 minutes”, and this was at 2pm. I tried to call Payless, multiple times, and found it impossible to talk to any person at all. I just wanted to let them know I was waiting. So I simply walked away from the reservation. Renting from Payless was a bad idea.3.6 Poor

We decided to upgrade to a larger vehicle at check-in and were quoted one price. Then at drop off, the price had over tripled. The communication was horrible, and we ended up spending way more than originally planned. Make sure you ask for everything in writingThrifty

Easy pickup and the service desk guy was friendly and informative about the area where we were going. They were able to get the car early as our airline had changed our arrival time at the last minute.Cons:
We came an hour early from our pickup time and had to wait a 15 minutes or so to get the minivan as it was upstairs. The driver was not the friendliest.Dollar
