Pros: The young man was courteous and tried to be as helpful as possible.
Cons: The price they wanted to charge me was not the price I made the reservation for. They have additional fees for insurance which are mandatory, not optional as the website indicated. In addition to the mandatory minimum coverage, if I chose to not put the full coverage they wanted to have a $4000 hold on my credit card. Absolutely ridiculous. In the end after all the headache when the young man called for my vehicle to be given to me it turns out the vehicle was NOT available nor did they have any others. Horrible experience. Never again.

Cons: When I got there the car we reserved was not available even after calling a day in advanced to make sure it would be. They would not accept the insurance I purchased online with the car. Even the price was not the same as it was online. Worst place.

Pros: The person I handed the car back to was great - very helpful and friendly
Cons: Basically: the price you are quoted doesn't include insurance. Insurance is around $120 extra. You will pay more to reduce the insurance excess from $2000 dollars to $800 - which you should absolutely do considering how crazy driving on the island is.

Dropoff in Punta Cana
Pros: The checkout process was easy and fast. Our credit cards were charge the right amount.
Cons: It would have been nice for them to offer dropoff service to the hotels so that we didn't have to call a taxi. However, the staff was great and drove us around the corner to the taxi stand.

Cons: I reserved and confirmed a 7 passenger vehicle for a trio with my family, and when I arrived to Hertz in Barcelo, DR, they told me they dont have the car and never offer me a solution.... I Loose mybday, paid for the taxis to the place the two ways, and never got nothing from them... A CHEATING, POOR, LOW END COMPANY.... I will go go to the end of this to be compensated and to let the Hertz CEO know what the Dominican Republican people of Hertz there do with they Gokd Members....

By far the worst experience I've had with Hertz
Pros: The car was large enough to fit 3 people and all the luggage comfortably.
Cons: I was given a price of $202 when I rented the car.I spoke to a Hertz Club Gold booking agent and they confirmed the price. Once I arrived at the Punta Cana airport:
1.) We waited over 45 minutes for someone to help us. There was nobody at the counter for 30 minutes. Then someone was who was helping another customer walked up, completely ignoring us. She was extremely slow and looked very inexperienced. Another Hertz representative showed up about 15-20 minutes later.
2.) The representative that helped us said that the price we received from the Hertz Club Gold member was just to reserve the car and the price of the car is actually more. I showed him my email receipt and he still said that's not what it shows on his screen. After that, he started adding all of these additional charges including insurance, gas option and a 28% tax. I told him I wanted to decline the insurance and gas options and he said that I could not an that I had to because it's a law in the Dominican Republic.I told him that none of this was ever communicated to me and I would have changed my travel plans to not use a rental car if I knew this was the case. I was stuck at this point and needed to pay for the car which now has cost me around $300 additional to the $202 I originally reserved.
3.) The car I was given was in terrible shape. Not only were there dents on the exterior but the inside was dirty and there were stains all over the seats. The driver side floor mat was not meant for the car. It partially covered the gas pedal and made it dangerous to drive. on top of all of this, the tires were bald and the car slide many times when I was braking. I have pictures of the dents in the exterior, floor mat and tires as proof. Additionally, I was only given the key to the car and not given the keyless entry module.
This was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had renting a car and I was expecting much better service and vehicle since I was renting through Hertz. Also, the website and Hertz Club Gold representative should have explained the insurance and tax scams before renting the car. I will not be using Hertz in the future due to this experience.
Not American Standards and Extra Charges - Punta C
Pros: Car was fairly new and clean. Upon return rep drove us to our terminal in the car and helped us manage our luggage.
Cons: There were surprise extra charges and they insisted on putting a $1500 hold on my credit card because I declined their insurance. The car was smaller than what I reserved and there were no other options so we squeezed in and didn't have a very safe situation. There were several stickers partially removed from the windshield that obstructed the view.

The car served us adiquately for the week.
Pros: The car drove nice, but was a stiff ride in the back seat for two adults. We were able to get four adult and 6+ bags. The air conditioning worked well. It had enough power to manuver when needed.
Cons: The Hyundai Accent is a small "Full size" car. Very short leg space in the back seat.
The outside of the car was clean enough, but the inside of the windshield was very bad. Refracted the sunlight to the point we had to stop and find water and towels to scrub the inside clean. I expected the required liablity insurance to be extra, but the required ups and extras almost doubled the original quoted cost. I was very nervious driving, fearing someone might hit me and we were warned of the consequences.

Cons: They overbook and dies not have a car for me , the supervisor said that my reservation was "expired" becaude i arrive 2 hours late.
They try to look for an indepent car rental that charge me 700 usd, when i book for 250 usd.

Bad Car experience
Cons: I have rented cars for a little over 10 years now and this was the worst car experience. I rented a car in Punta cana for 13 days and when I got there around 2 pm when I go to pick my car up there wasn't any available. Not even that, before I left for my trip I confirmed it and they told me my car was available. Don't know how that works?? And to end the story short they triple the price? Worst car rental in the caribbean!!!! DONT RENT THRIFTY IN PUNTA CANA.

BEWARE. Reservations do not matter
Pros: Reservation made sept 2016 for the ONLY vacation I get all year at Christmas. Confirmed six times - even before leaving LAX! Arrived and was told "sorry lady we have no cars". Without all the horrible details here's a f ew:
- 3.5 hours begging/crying at counter they did not care although my reservation was acknowledged.
- Christmas day, traveling solo and disabled, they did not care.
- Supervisor got on phone, he did not care.
- I had nowhere to go and NO transportation.
- 3.5 hours later "we found a car it will be $800"
THIEVES AND LIARS. I witnessed FIVE other renters on either side of the Thrifty rental counter told the same thing.
Cons: Learned from MANY locals, "they do it all the time".
- my reservation was for 16 days $300.
I would NEVER give that country one dime out of my own pocket although the USA has given them HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars to rebuild.
Their culture is deplorable. They need to be delivered from the rampant "deception with a smile."
Cons: Paid double of the priced booked. The lot is extremely far from the airport. The car selection was old. They charged us a cleaning fee for the SAND in the car. I guess you better not hit the beach in Punta Cana. Never again

They force you to take insurance
Cons: On the website they advertise $43.00 for 3 days and when you get there they force you to add insurance or they will not rent the car to you. Even if you want to sign the paper refusing the insurance they will not do it.
It is misrepresentation and I will never rent from them again.

Cons: There was no information given to me at booking or before the trip to inform me the Dollar location is miles away from the airport or that i should call Dollar for a ride from the airport (no organized shuttle). Finally got there after lots of hassles. Then Dollar did not have the 7 person van I reserved and put five of us in a small SUV (biggest they had). The 2 friends we were to transport got a ride with another group at their added expense. The SUV we got was mechanically sound and clean. Staff was apologetic but offered no explanation about the poor communication or lack of a reserved van.

Cons: I had to wait till 9am to pick up it instead 8 am as has to be opening hour.
I had to pay additional insurance - which I do not know about and my insurance from Allianz (bought together with car rental) was not accepted.

Cons: Was quoted $92. Then when we got to the counter it was over $350!!! They wanted to charge me $50 a day for basic insurance! More than double the rental itself!
Pros: Not much since they placed me in a smaller truck that I did not ask for
Cons: I did not like the fact that I was given a category of vehicular other then what I asked for every when I showed them the email to prove it.

Pros: There is not much I liked. Very disappointed
Cons: It was hard to communicate with the sales reps. We were told we had to carry the insurance even though a credit card covered it or we wouldn't have ended up with a vehicle. And the total price ended up being nearly twice the amount we were quoted.

Pros: I would be capable to disband Kayak from the Internet.
Cons: They promised us to bring the car in Bavaro although, in the very first day they invited us in Punta Cana Aiport. After we made more than 5 phone calls, on European roaming, calls consisting of: wait a second, wait a second, and we were discussing with many, many operators, calling us on Terminal A, afterwards on Terminal B, and again on A and B, we found out that they didn't even have the car we ordered. We had to pay 70 USD taxi, round trip and also 282 USD insurance for no car. It was a disaster that destroyed our holiday. It's a huge mistake to have them as your franchisors. They don't speak English, it's a huge waiting time, no car, and the services are a disaster!

Horrible rental company
Cons: Bait and switch on prices. My rental before arrival was around 270 dollars and at the airport it turned into 597 dollars. Apperantly they do not accept the rental insurance I have bought thru Kayak (which Kayak recommended) so I was forced to buy their insurance which turned out to be more than the rental itself. Horrible rental company and I am not happy with Kayak that offered me insurance. So pretty much I got screwed. Never again am I booking rentals thru a website.

Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: The fact that when we arrived they had no vehicles. Literally none and did not even try to help us find one. And we arrived ahead of our scheduled pick-up time to be safe. Horrible customer service and horrible company. Not what one wants to deal with when they arrive to a foreign country. Unacceptable.
