I booked a “seven person passenger van” through Kayak and when I picked up my vehicle at Europcar there was a small sedan (two front seats, a middle row 3 seats, and 2 pop up seats in the back) leaving us zero room for any luggage. It was a Dancia Jogger and was not acceptable for our group. Fortunately, Europcar had a Landcruiser available but it cost me an additional $700 dollars. It was a bad way to start a vacation we were really looking forward to.

Nice and friendly staff at the counter. She show us some of the points to pay attention while driving, like paid parking in the city area, how to drive on the round-above, which tunnel needs to paid fee to use, etc. I rented a 7-seat caravan for five peoples plus 7 pieces of carry-on luggage.

The staff are excellent and nice. If there's another chance, I will rent from them again. But I pay again on the insurance. I brought it from Kayak but when I asked them they said there's no insurance included so I purchased the insurance again from them. Maybe they can work better on checking the add-on or insurance we have paid in Kayak.

All went well. Pickup didn't take too long and drop off was also fast. Had a white Duster, which seems to be the most popular car in Iceland. Wish it was a bit bigger (more room for luggage), but gas mileage was fantastic (5 L /100 km) and the engine had good pep.

I thought pick up was speedy and the plus was I was able to get a free up grade to an automatic. I had pre purchased car insurance through what I thought was Kayak like the car rental, but Alamo wouldn’t accept the coverage and had to repurchase car insurance at the airport. My car did have a low tire pressure light come on a few hours after renting. It appeared fine to the eye and since we were staying local, we didn’t return the car to Alamo.

No shuttle was available to pick us up when we landed at the airport. Called both numbers and no one answered. Had to pay for a taxi to the car rental store. Taxis did not want to drive us there. It was 11pm in a foreign country. Very unpleasant. With that said, we had a fine transport back to the airport. Car was nice and clean.

It was just too expensive. The way it works as you know is - you pay for a full day even if you don’t use it for that full day. So I had to pay for 3 full days when I only used it for 2 and change. So that was annoying.

The agent at the desk at Budget at the KEFLAVÍK airport was so rude that we decided to rent from another company. Very rude and unhelpful after our long flight. It was 8:30 in the morning and our reservation wasn’t until 10am and he was acting like we were stupid for even coming to the desk a bit early, even though we were just checking to see if we could get something earlier. I was very disappointed.

Great rental experience! Affordable, easy, and very attentive staff at the airport. Car was nice and perfect for what I needed. My tire pressure light went on during my road trip and I emailed for assistance; didn't get a response for a couple of days, but I think I emailed the wrong address? Anyway I was able to fill the tires with air at a roadside gas station, no problem. I would definitely rent from Budget again!

We have a flat tire issue. We pay for the platinum insurance.but We don’t received any road assistance even if i am a handicap man. At the end , they charge us a brand new tire ( We don’t receive a car with new tires …… ) we understand the actual conditions of the tires in that country not justify in any case to charge the clients their own tire renewal program….

The first car that was offered had a very bald tyre. We were given another car,which was fine. The staff at the office were lovely, and very helpful. The man who was to shuttle us from the airport was extremely rude. He would only take the driver, leaving us at the airport without any communication to our driver. On returning our car,the staff were very kind. Seems that your shuttle drivers leave A LOT to be desired though. This was our welcome to iceland.

When picking up the vehicle (Mercedes Vito Touring van), it turned out that the International Driver's Permit was not necessary, although it was stated that it was needed online. The pressure to buy the "premium insurance" felt impossible to avoid taking as we felt that we would be liable for just about anything if we didn't take it. The staff member's English was not the greatest so it was also tough to understand the terms clearly. Being tired and apprehensive at the time, we bit the bullet and paid the additional $400+ for peace of mind. The van we were given was in OK shape - windshield wiper on driver's side was broken, back window wiper, was missing, driver's side door would not open or close in the cold weather and would need to be opened and closed from inside only. The space inside was nice and roomy and getting the Wi-Fi was definitely the way to go! The guys that were present at the time of return were super friendly (Polish and Romanian). The return process was extremely quick. The "walk-around check" of the vehicle upon return was done very quickly as well but made me question the need for that premium insurance. No signed-off paperwork was given upon the return either so here's hoping they stick to their word that all was good!

I thought Dollar rent a car did a great job in regards to the experience picking up the car and dropping it off, the only negative that I have for them is that they are not at the airport!! They are about 5 minutes down the road but that was not given in the information from kayak. There's a shuttle that picks you up at the airport and it comes every 15 minutes. But for the day that I arrived it took about a half an hour or more for the shuttle to arrive. So with that said, the car they provided was great. The experience checking in and out was great but it needs to be stated that they are not at the airport.

Kayak incorrectly advertised this rental agency as being inside the terminal of the Keflavík Airport. In reality it’s not even walkable, you have to drive 8 minutes to get there. Added a lot of extra time to our pickup when we were expecting to grab our car at the airport.

I went there and they said my reservation was wrong. They did not receive my reservation and they do not have the car for 6 persons. They suggested to go other car rental companies. I paid there twice of it

The van was perfect for our group and customer service was excellent. We got stuck along the road in soft wet earth and they responded promptly with with a tow. (It happens in Iceland.)

Our reservation (which I have a confirmed email for with a confirmation number for) was not sent to the Thrifty. The person checking out and I both looked at the email, but there was no record of it. Super fun!

The initial car had very worn tires, so they gave us a free upgrade. The pickup of car was a little slow (waited 20 min for them to get to airport and had to deal with car change), but I've had worse with larger on-airport car rentals. Make sure that you have the number to call when getting to the airport so they know you've arrived.

AddCar left us stranded at the airport. We waited for 2 hours until we had to walk out of the airport to search for a car with my 92-year old grandmother. The unresponsive agency ruined our brief visit to Iceland.

We were being sold the all-encompassing insurance for the whole trip, and the salesperson told us that this insurance covered all car damages. However at the end of the trip, the underbody of the car had some cracks due to the bumpy Iceland roads. We were then told that the insurance didn’t cover the underbody damage and we had to pay extra payment of €500! We were being misinformed that the all-encompassing insurance would cover all damages (and we were also told that because this car insurance covers everything, we didn’t need to check the car during collection too); otherwise we would have gotten the normal car insurance instead!

The only really negative thing was the long wait at dropoff, so just make sure you give yourself plenty of time. We got there 3 hours before our flight and didn't get to the airport until 2 hours (we were at the dropoff for about 45 min and the shuttle loading and drive took another 15). Otherwise, the car was fine (clearly had been used a lot - and the clutch SUCKED), it ran well. It got good gas mileage. We only filled up twice (from 1/4 tank each time) in 8 days of travelling all over south and east Iceland)!

Please stop recommending NU car rentals. I would never, ever, ever, recommend them to anyone. The biggest worry of my trip to Iceland was NU Car Rentals. They were a complete disaster in every way possible. I am happy to expand in more detail for anyone interested. I would hate for anyone else to have to go through what I went through.

Horrible will not rent with NU again. The reservation was dumped to the local Nordic car rental. Their services were inefficient and understaffed. The “pick up” service location is not marked, the call number doesn’t answer / help, the vans are infrequent and only pick up 1 member of the party. You take a number and we waited over an hour two get served and rent the car, Then, You have to drive back to the airport to pick up the rest of the group. Drop off was only slightly better.
