It is a very old hotel but very modern and luxurious at the same time. It is rated as the best hotel in Bern for good reason. Location simply cannot be beaten - 1 minute walk from the main station and central to all interesting places to see. Make sure you register for the "Leading Hotels Group" program they have once you arrive - awesome and unexpected benefits given to us simply for doing that. We travel a lot and frequent 5-star properties. This was probably one of the top 5 ever.

Pros: Great location and beautifully and elegantly designed.
Cons: Front desk help was not accommodating to families and inconsistent in their policies. They were inflexible to our group even though we realized we were incorrect in the amount of people we notified. They were inflexible to booking.com bookings. It could have been just the front desk people we encountered, but half of our party sought other accommodation for the night and we were disappointed. The next morning we encountered a bright and cheery front desk person, so we were encouraged. Our other 5 star stays were far superior if one was to consider 5 star service.

Cons: Not a critic as you get unlimited transportation passes (probably payed by the very steep city tax), but the hotel is not accessible by car, as most of Bern historic center is car-free. You can park at the railway station, 5min way from the hotel.

Cons: Because of the winter markets, the street leading to the hotel was blocked, making our arrival difficult. We were informed by the staff that we could have pushed a button on the box near the barricade and we could have had the barricade lowered into the ground so we could enter. That information would have been helpful if shared before our arrival.

Cons: I already bought a day-ticket for the tram, but I hadn't realized that a tram-ticket for the entire period of your stay is included in the hostel price. So please, just buy a one-way ticket upon arrival as it will save you a considerable amount of money.

Accessing to local transport was really good because there was a bust and tram station exactly in front of the hotel in a main street. Accessing to local transport was really good because there was a bust and tram station exactly in front of the hotel in a main street. The staff behavior was friendly and nice. they gave me a free day ticket for 2 days as a gift.

Cons: For the price which isn’t very low, you have to put up your own bedsheets, duvet covers and pillowcase and then remove them all yourself before you check out. The toilets are passable but tiny. There is no hair dryer provided. There are no curtains at each bunk for privacy. There is no hand soap at the sink in each room. Would be good to provide one. The common areas are very well renovated but the bunk areas and the showers seem lacking. The place is generally passable clean and acceptable for a one-night stay. Anything more than one night you should consider other places instead.

Cons: The breakfast was quite boring, but with acceptable price, so we can’t complain. As the location is quite far from the city centre, it could be quite hard to look for restaurants or supermarkets around. But tram and bus is pretty frequent and it’s just a 10 minutes ride to the centre.

Cons: 1) personnel: not professional, not client focused. Took us a while to change the room, reception does not know the rooms they have (or lying to us). Asked us to pay for the hotel in the morning before check-out at midday (even though i booked with a card), complete distrust and paranoia on their side like in a third world country. i was running late for my appointment because of that 2) breakfast overcrowded with asian tourists who stay in the hotel arriving by big busses. The Hotel charged us for the hot water at the breakfast venue. Poor choice on the room service menu 3) personnel again. Really screwed the stay and mood ahead of an important appointment

Cons: The hotel is under a major renovation (that's way the rooms are brand new) but this was never informed during the reservation, so I think this was really unfair from their side. The works started some days really early (before 8 am) and we were on holiday (Christmas Period) so this was very annoying. We complained at the hotel front desk and they offered to give back our money or a compensation (breakfast for the days we were waken up by the works before 10 am), as it was holidays, impossible to find another place, we stayed with the compensation. If you plan to wake up after 8, better chose another hotel, if not, the hotel is perfect for the price, go for it.

Cons: The property is quite a long walk from the main town. The shower door had a gap in it which meant that during showering water splashed onto the floor outside. We also noticed that late at night (eg. after midnight) there was sometimes no hot water available. The soundproofing of our room wasn't excellent which meant that we heard conversations from another (particularly loud) room throughout the night and during the morning. Our room was quite expensive for what we received, however this seems to typically be the case for Switzerland.
